Yes, I'm using the official 14.4 WHQL drivers.
AutoHotKey script is to simulate the unplugging of the power adapter, because when you unplug the power adapter, the Windows profile switches the power profile as accordingly. Also note as in my first post of the script, it only toggles between Balanced and Power saver. If you are using other power plan, you have to modify the power UUID parameters as accordingly.
FN+F11 does not work for me.

Samsung replied to me already, but I'm not satisfied with their answer.
I explained them that the unrecognized extra memory started with bios update P04ADH, but remained after the latest update (P05ADH). I asked them if they could say anything about a fix in the near future in the form of another bios update, but their reply was basically:
I've discussed your question with the IT support, but we don't have an immediate solution. The IT support recommend the following steps:
- Start SW update and install the latest bios update, it could be that the latest bios update is somewhat modified by Samsung
- If the bios update through SW update is not working, I ask you to deploy a full system recovery with Samsung Recovery Solution to see if there are not additional problems.
- If above steps won't work, I advise you to send your laptop in for repair.
Those morons really think that a full system recovery could actually help to fix a bug in the BIOS? And no way I'll send my notebook in for a repair which definitely give no solution to the problem.
I hope this will be fixed before September, because I definitely need those 16GB by then
. It was one of the reasons why I bought this notebook!

i need some help with script, what program do i use to run it? and how? sorry i am noob in this things

Check our Win8.1 update thread (stickied at the top of the Samsung forum). Read the update in its opening post and scan backwards for relevant posts over the last few weeks.
Also study this thread, including a few posts before your own. -
Yes, we could try with a Samsung recovery. If image retention persists then could also be a bios update to have messed up the display. And we could try a bios downgrade as well...
-
Is the image retention problem really a software issue? I think it's something in the screen itself.
-
I highly doubt it's software related. I think the 8.1 update is just some coincidence. There are reports of image persistance in other laptops with IPS (and their clones) screens. I think it's a flaw of the technology from what I've read. Maybe some people haven't been bothered by it because they use their laptops less often?
-
I just got myself an NP880Z5E, and moved my SSD over to it. Is it just me, or is the scrolling backwards by default? I have to swipe up to scroll down. I suppose I can get used to it, but I'm already used to the other way.
-

Did you clone your previous installation onto the SSD or was that a fresh installation? If the latter, have to used SW Update to get the latest drivers?
John -
I think it's unlikely image retention is caused by a software issue but, since most of us got it after update to W8.1, is normal to doubt about it. Maybe it's something related to hw, that at factory defaults was somehow fixed by software (refresh or something), and later broken by the update. Or something related to bios (voltage governor of display i.e.). Or it can just be a problem related to the manufacturing of display, that shows up randomly sooner or later, depending on the usage over time.
But I think that a Samsung recovery restore and, if not successful, a bios downgrade is worth a try. -
You can just go to control panel and change this setting for the touch pad. When I reinstall it resets to reversed scrolling.
-
Cloned (Acronis), then used SW_Update to do all the latest updates.
I can't seem to find anywhere to change the scrolling setting for the touchpad, just on and off. -
Go inside elan folder and open the exe with the icon touchpad shaped. There are all the settings you need.
-
You should have Touchpad in Windows Control Panel which will allow basic settings, as member billain described.
Or use the "secret" control panel described in this post -- which I think is the one member zooster referred to.
If you don't have those, your Touchpad driver probably never installed. Look in SW Update to verify that it is listed as Installed. The thread of the post I linked contains what else you need to know about Samsung touchpads. -
If anyone has the same problem - please help:
I am not able to update AMD driver because no version from recommended on the first page installs correctly. Someone already advised that this may be because my Intel drivers are not updated, however I also have a problem updating Intel drivers - SW update is completely useless because it has the stock driver hanging there since I have bought this PC, while I get an error message when trying to download the latest driver from Intel site ("this drier was not tested with this computer..."). Has anyone tried a driver update tool on this PC, like Driver Max? Seriously, its a stupid situation as I never had such childish problems of not being able to update drivers on any of my previous PCs, but here I am even afraid to experiment with the Driver Max...
sorry for too much text and emotions, but seriously, how do you update your Intel graphics drivers on this computer? -
I have the 880z5e-X01 and I have the image retention problem from the first day and I have stock windows 8. I bought the laptop in January and I noticed that the image retention problem got worst over the last month !!! I use the laptop all day and I spend considerable time having one window opened like: photoshop, visual studio and eclipse and when I change to another window with dark background I can see things from the last window. In first months I was able to see persisted image but it was not so clear and so annoying as it is now. I do not know if the problem should get better or worst over the time or if the problem is present in all panels or just some of them, but I can say without a doubt that the software does not have a thing to do with it and it is a pure hardware issue. Can some confirm if the issue is supposed to get better or worse over time ??
-
Nope, that wasn't it.
Nope, that's showing the same panel as the exe zooster described.
It wasn't what zooster was referring to (that control panel doesn't have an option to reverse the scrolling) but the secret control utility is the one that did the trick. It defaults to "reversed" apparently? Or maybe the guy who owned it before me reversed it, I don't know.
The EXE we need for this is red square icon with a stylized E in white. -
Worse, at least in my experience.
-
It seems that after removing the intel and AMD driver with Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) the error "this driver was not tested with this computer..." is removed but some of the Intel driver leave you with no brightness control so be sure to create a restore point before uninstalling "working" drivers .
-
when i install 8.1 brightness patch and restart pc, my brightness works perfect, but in time the back just stops working and i have to reinstall it again, what the actual hell is this sociery
-
Go to control panel > Hardware and sound > Mouse (under Devices and Printers) > Touchpad tab > Elansmartpad options > Look for scrolling and uncheck the reverse button
Hope this helps. -
Well, I got tired of Windows 8.1 and all the problems that it brought and installed Windows 7. Does anyone know how to disable this damn popup when I press the capslock key? http://i.imgur.com/D1O3VjQ.png
I tried installing easy settings from windows 8 but the installation fails. -
Easy Settings (for Win7) does that, and many people complained about it. That's why they changed it in Settings (for Win8). Of course now some people (only a few) want it back
The two are not mutually compatible: You don't want to install Easy Settings in Win8 or Settings in Win7.
There ARE some ways you can trim down the installation of Easy Settings, though, as described in the thread linked below. It's mostly for the older versions 1.x of Easy Settings:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/688064-how-reduce-latencies-samsung-laptops.html
The thread linked below contains general information applying to both Settings and Easy Settings, including more recent versions:

Samsung disabled the pop-ups in Settings (windows 8) but have left them in Easy Settings (Windows 7). We haven't discovered where the switch is. You can go digging in c:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Easy Settings\.
I personally prefer the pop-ups.
John -
You may need to disable Adaptive Brightness in order to manually control brightness and/or to increase brightness beyond a certain point, as described here.
Member Shinji_U also posted a registry hack earlier in the thread which some users find is necessary to control brightness on this model. I didn't bookmark it, but Search Thread should find it easily.
They really should make a switch for it instead of trying to fit everybody into the same mold. Personally I would prefer the pop-up for Silent Mode (Fn-F11) but not the other keys -- particularly not the ones that have LEDs in them.
Maybe Settings was updated in the meantime. Every time Settings is re-installed or updated, it re-enables Adaptive Brightness, thus preventing manual brightness control (on most models and with most Settings versions). This post attempts to clarify the subject. But also take note of membe Shinji_U's registry hack, which may be necessary on this model. -
Yeah, I've been trying to poke around Easy Settings but haven't found a way :s
Thanks for the help, though. -
I have a NP780Z5E and was thinking about installing a SSD. I saw the tutorial on the first post but had some more questions. For those of you who have done it, was installation difficult? Was there a noticeable improvement in performance after? Also, what SSD will fit in this computer and which ones do you guys recommend? I do not know too much about SSDs. Thanks!
Edit: For example, would this SSD work? http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Elect...pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1400816457&sr=1-1&keywords=ssd -

The EVO is a good choice with competitive performance and pricing. I have the mSATA version running in my NP900X4C.
John -
I just put an SSD into an 880 and have previously put one in a 770. The key is patience, it's relatively easy but getting the bottom open is tedious and you HAVE to take your time or you might break some of the clips or screw brackets.
Agree on the EVO line, great price/performance ratio. I'd recommend a 250 or 500 GB model depending on your storage requirements. The 250s have been going on sale a lot lately.

anybody help/ cant install intel 7260 wifi card. BT work well, but wifi no.

Is anyone else still contacting Samsung about the missing 8GB memory after the bios upgrade in April? I don't have the impression that Samsung is working on something, since the latest bios upgrade didn't fix anything.
-
My Book 8 is only reporting 8 Gigs out of the 16 installed as well.. I believe a couple members are in contact with Samsung on this issue but I have not heard anything for a while...
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk -
I'm not having this issue, I installed an extra 8 GB and it's showing up fine. I didn't use the default Samsung OS build.
-
As member Goldmund posted, this was the issue which began occurring after the April BIOS update -- for some members with some types of RAM, but not others. It is likely not affected by the OS installation. A few members reported how they had talked to Samsung, who acknowledged the problem. I would say anybody who has the issue should definitely contact Samsung about it -- and keep calling them to follow up and keep the pressure on them.
One thing I would suggest, and which I completely forgot when this first occurred: After the BIOS update, try and reset BIOS settings to default values, then save and reboot. It's only a slim chance that it will fix this issue, but worth a try -- and generally always good practice after a BIOS update.
After the reset, boot back into BIOS and make sure UEFI settings (under SecureBoot) are correct for your installation: OS Mode Selection=UEFI OS if you are using the factory installation (or cloned it or re-installed without changing UEFI mode). OS Mode Selection=CSM OS if you re-installed Windows in Legacy BIOS mode (any version, on the original HDD or a new SSD). -
I've been stressing my laptop a bit with AutoCAD (2D drawings, no 3D so far) and the occasionally freezes forcing me to do a hard reset. This is driving me crazy. If you remember, I clean installed win 8.1 on my SSD and everything went fine, but I'm afraid something is still not going well. I wonder how I can investigate on this and find out the real cause of the freezes.
(BSOD only came up once and I couldn't take note of the error code on time.. can't be bothered retrieving and reading the dump file that was created)
Any suggestion would be appreciated
Win 8.1 x64 clean install, activated with OEM key, drivers installed through SW Update, Autodesk AutoCAD 2014 x64 SP1.
-
So is anybody trying to play Watch Dogs yet? Mine crashes on fullscreen :/
-
Do I understand you correctly that the freezes only happen in AutoCAD?
If so, I would look at how AutoCAD interacts with the AMD driver. I have not used AutoCAD myself since early/mid 80s (yes, I am that old, and so is AutoCAD) but I presume it draws heavily on CUDA, OpenCL and either OpenGL or Direct3D. If you can configure which of those it uses (OpenGL vs Direct3D, and enable/disable CUDA and OpenCL) and if this affects the freezes -- then you have the culprit.
I forget if you also game, but I would think it is very possible that the latest AMD beta drivers (which may provide best framerates) turn out not be the most compatible with an app like AutoCAD.
That's all I can think of. I Googled a bit and saw some issues with AutoCAD and Win8.1 last fall -- but everybody had issues with 8.1 at that time
-
I have tried with 3.10 and it start, but I've to play at 1600x900 with all Low settings and some medium..
Bad Bad driver
Tried the newest from ati (it install 100%) but crash at start.
I have to try the 13.12 too see if goes well, but I doubt. -
I have the np770z5e-s02 and Watch dogs isnt even opening up. Are there any additional drivers that are required to run the game apart from the ones I assue uplay and steam installs automatically?
-
Yesterday the 14.6 beta driver was out, and I went ahead and installed and finally could play it. To get decente framerate I play it at 1080p but with graphic options at low/medium, no vsync, etc.
If I alt-tab the driver stops working and the game crashes though.... -
did you install the official from atis website or leshcats/Leekm?
*I use the stock drivers that SW update forces me to use, I hade to restore the system last week so I havent been able to update it yet. The drivers are from 2012-11-23, shouldnt they at least be able to get the game to launch?
what's your computer model?
Now I actually got a message saying error (0xc000007b) when I try to start the game. -
I'm going to install 8.1 and the new 14.6 drivers to check if the switchable graphics start finally working!
Has anyone had any other problems while using windows 8.1? -
Study our Win8.1 update thread first. You want to at least read the opening post and scan the last few pages.
And make sure you create a backup or restore point so you can roll back if something goes wrong with (or after) the update. Also backup your data first. This is a major update in terms of the code changes made by Microsoft -- even though it is only minor in terms of the benefits to the user. -
I follow that thread closely, and nothing has yet solved my problems: both graphic and wifi... That's why I'm just going back to 8.1, since I already had it before. I thought rolling it back would solve the problems, but it didn't... that's why I'm returning to 8.1 afterall
-
OK, cool. I can hear you know what you're doing then
-
Just installed the 14.6 beta drivers. Everything is working and you really DO SEE an improvement in Watch Dogs.
-
Where did you find the driver? what computer model do you use?
-
I'm on NP670Z5E-X01PT and mostly the tips i've read here about other models work the same for me. As for the drivers I upgraded from 14.4 (no clean install, just installed these over the old ones): http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd-catalyst-14.6-beta-v1.0-windows-may23.exe
As I said, everything is working from my side (switchable graphics, no FPS lag, etc), can't say if it's different for you guys.
P.S: I searched for the driver after reading an article about the 14.6 drivers saying tha it would improve the fps count on Watchdogs. And I just googled "amd beta driver 14.6"
)
-
I updated to 14.4 yesterday since I havent upgraded to
Windows 8.1, still getting 0xc000007b when trying to start watch_dogs.
Do you mind telling what intel hd 4000 driver you're on?
