I haven't see this scenario discussed, sorry if I've missed it. My plan is to put the 1TB HDD into a caddy in the ODD position then M4 SSD can go into the SATA 3 port. There's plenty of room on the original HDD so I was going to leave all partions as they are, well certainly for the time being, and then install clean W7 onto the new SSD, later adding the original OS as a dual boot option with Easy BCD which I'm familiar with.
Unless I've missed something its a safe option as the original partitions can stay intact and I can use the SSD as I please. Data can on the original HDD as needed.
Thanks to guides here I can see the way to get a good clean installation, but with the usefull Samsung stuff added.

Thanks for the link. I've had a good read, I was more wondering about the dual booting scenario, do those of you doing this, ie keeping the original Windows installation then adding your own say, W7 Ultimate or Windows 8 on the SSD, prefer to use a 'Windows OS Boot Menu' or select the relevent disc at boot time via keyboard?
Incidentally, I read on one thread, though can't find it now, that some are having problems installing W7 from USB. When I came accross this issue recently it was because I was using a USB3 port, W7 SP1 doesn't have native USB3 support. Switching over to a USB2 port was successful and the installation went ahead.
I think you all know this anyway, just saying. -
I never intended to dual-boot, so can't speak to that point. I cloned the HDD to my SSD, as described in this thread. I haven't tried a fresh Win 7 installation either because the cloning process worked perfectly, without any performance drawbacks. If I did ever want to boot back into the standard HDD, I'd probably just switch the boot-order in the bios.
