    Disabling Series 9 Adaptive Brightness?

I'm really liking my new Series 9 so far, but there's one odd quirk that bothers me. When the screen is showing a dark image, the brightness lowers in a few slight steps. When I make the screen image brighter (by say, opening an explorer window maximized such that most of the image is white), the screen brightens a few slight steps. This is counter-intuitive and rather annoying.

A quick look at the enormous Series 9 Announced thread did not provide any working solutions. I've gone to the advanced power settings and disabled "Adaptive Brightness" and restarted to no avail. I disabled the Adaptive Brightness service, but that didn't work. And finally, I opened the Intel Graphics control panel and unchecked the "Display Power Saving Technology" box in Power -> "On battery," which helped a little (but did not fix it).

Does anyone know if I'm missing something?

I'm downloading "Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" from the Intel site right now to see if that will solve my problem, but I doubt it will (if it even installs).

Right click on the desktop and select Graphics Properties. This should open up the Intel Graphics Control Panel. Select Advanced Mode, go down to the Power menu and then make sure that "Automatic Display Brightness" is deselected for both the Plugged In and On Battery profiles.

My adaptive brightness is off, but I don't know which of these options did it... try both.

"Function F1" to go into Samsung's Control Center, then disable Adaptive Brightness.

In Windows, Power Options, Display, disable Adaptive Brightness.

Yeah, none of those fixed it.

For now I'll just keep my display at min brightness 3 (where the slight changes are unnoticeable for me).

Ok, so this is continuing to bother me a little bit. It's most noticeable when a change in image brightness on part of the screen triggers the backlight change (which noticeable affects the rest of the screen whose image didn't change).

I wonder if uninstalling the Intel HD Graphics drivers would fix the problem, since it seems like this stupid function is controlled by that as an extra feature that just won't turn off.

My question is this: would it be dangerous to uninstall that? Would doing so render my computer unusable, or just maybe unpleasant to use (low res) at worst?

Have you tried updating the drivers to latest version? It is not dangerous to uninstall... you will just go to basic video drivers with low rest.

Having the same problem, but it bothers me enough to where I will be unable to keep the laptop if I can't disable it. There has to be a fix!

I've done everything on this page and it persists!! ?!?

this isnt samsung specific, since i just bought a HP laptop and the EXACT SAME THING is happening to me!

It is so annoying, i hate it!! And it seems to be something intel related since it only happens when im using the intel graphics card, and it is most noticeable when the brightness is set to its lowest....

WHen using the dedicated videocard, this doesnt happen.. so it is an intel issue for sure... but in the intel graphics options there is NOTHING in there to disable this annoying adaptive brightness.....

Nothing like raising a thread from the dead.

Turning off adaptive brightness in the second generation Samsung Series 9 notebook is easily done. Not sure about your HP.

Maybe the HP forum can help you. Hint. :D

Agh sorry Thor :) came here from a google search.

But it's absolutely fine raising old treads if it has yet to be solved. It seems the above methods have not solved the issue for the thread starter and others thus far. I did look at the hp section and found the same question asked and with no solution too.

The second gen Series 9 has no such issue. Disabling adaptive brightness in the Easy Settings Display section works correctly.

I am not 100% sure about the first generation Series 9 machines. I believe that has been corrected as well. If it hasn't I would see internal complaints at my company.

When I press Fn + F1, there is not setting for Adaptive Brightness. Could anybody help me any further with this problem.

    Thank you

Which model? Do you have (Easy) Settings installed? Which version of Windows?

I had the same problem with my 900x3c a03 with windows 7. It was frustrating.

Using graphic driver version 8.15.10.2618 I only have diabled the associated icon in the windows task bar - now the problem is gone.

Please note this workaround doesn't work with newer graphic driver versions.

I have installed the latest Easy Settings version, but when I click on setup after downloading, I get a "Compatibility problem" message.

    Any help with this?

I would try downloading it again. The files being provided by SW Update change very frequently (I think Samsung are still debugging the system).

    Nope it doesn't help :(
There's something screwed up with the Intel drivers I think , because the settings keep changing on their own. I can't explain it. I set it up, it works for a while, then adaptive brightness comes back out of the blue. Damn windows I hate you so much...

This is not how this problem is fixed at all. And the thread John Ratsey is suggesting people go to to find help is 51 pages long.

    1) right click on power icon in taskbar
    2) select power options
    3) click change plan settings of whatever power plan you are using
    4) click change advanced power plan settings
    5) click display
    6) click enable adaptive brightness
    7) change both settings to off
    8) click apply
    9) thank me

Thank you for those steps and the tude. There are a few ways to disable adaptive brightness and depending on the situation it can be more involved than that. To make this old thread useful, here's is the most complete post I could find:
