Hey so far this system seems great for gaming. But I will be dealing with a lot of cad programs. If possible any can throw some performance numbers for like solidworks, inventor or 3ds max??? Thanks in advance

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I also have this laptop and I could benchmark games that you don't own.

Does anyone know why Chronos played SimCity so poorly (according to the first post). I would like to buy this laptop for light gaming. However SimCity is my favourite game and if Chronos can play all games well except Simcity... then I might buy something else. Like the Asus Zenbook u500/UX51.

Let me test this again today, will report then

Handschriftlich von meinem Note 2 gesendet

Don't know why, but got some better performance (not very much:

SimCity playable at medium settings with 26 fps, low about 34

but it's playable on medium however. Still hoping for new drivers...

Ok thanks. Simcity is a demanding game so your latest performance test is quite good after all. If 8870m can play Simcity on high settings for 1600x900 or 1366x768... Then it's good enough for me (and better than Geforce 650m). What settings did you use for the medium and low?

Actualized it in the opening post. However still not much better than 620m at Simcity, but it's playable and that's enough for me :)

Is it seriously throttling or somethig like that? Because a 620m should really perform A LOT worse than this card. Are you sure you're running the 8870m. Maybe try a HWinfo64 log?

Delpiero223: Are you using AC Adapter and "High Performance" during your gaming tests? Here's an interesting quote from another thread which made me want to ask you about this:

" I Played BF3 yesterday and at first I was like "lets see what this beast can handle", only to get dissapointed because I had to run it with settings turned on low to handle it without lag.

I was an idiot as it turned out. I was playing on the HD 4000, and after plugging in the AC Adapter, changing windows power settings to "high peformance" and catalyst control center to maxumum performance this thing maxed out everything on ultra with no lag at all @ 720p. Haven't tried 1080 yet, but im not gonna play in that anyway.

Nope, no throttling. BF 3 works just fine afterwards.

Of course I used AC-mode and activated High Performance mode manually like in every test.

    OK thanks :).

I made some research on Internet. There seems to be some kind of issue with the lighting in SimCity. If Lighting is turned of the frame rates dramaticcally increases... At least for Geforce Cards.

Hi, I've been following the laptop for a while now and my biggest concern is the fact that it runs on 90 W. I've read that the 8770m on the watered-down Chronos model already uses all available power. This new model was designed with the Haswell Intel processor in mind and as far as I've seen, the large power consumption of the 8870m results in CPU throttling and much lower performance than its capable of. The concern is: if the laptop is already power-hungry, can drivers really fix that? Can software solutions fix a hardware flaw?

This seems to be a big obstacle for performance. Any insights?

I have found the same issues with the 8870m version. CPU throttles a lot at 70 °C which it really shouldn't. Next week I'll probably go get a 120W PSU to check if that fixes the issues.

If it's the temperature that's resulting in throttling and reduced gaming performance, do you think Diamond cooling thermal compound or something similar could be a solution?

I don't think it's thermal throttling. A cpu should be able to go well above 72 °C which mine does not when gaming. If I am rendering some animations on the CPU only (so the GPU isn't being used) it stays at its turbo clock of 3,2 ghz at all times and gets to about 82 °C so its not thermal limitations I think. When gaming the GPU uses power too, limiting the CPU.

I'm not sure if the one I'm planning to buy ill fit though. And the chance that the chronos uses it like it should is slim.

    From Prank's testing (8870):
    Bioshock Infinite (outdoors)
    Settings:
    Ultra - 1920x1080px -- min: 20 fps max: 28 fps avg: 25 fps
    High - 1920x1080px -- min: 30 fps max: 43 fps avg: 36fps
    Medium - 1600x900px -- min: 41fps max: 57 fps avg: 50fps
    --> playable on high

From one user review on the Bestbuy model (8770):
"Bioshock: Infinite runs at 25 FPS on high settings"

Of course, haven't looked closely at other in game settings, etc but nevertheless, the 8770 seems to be holding its ground pretty damn good considering the $1k cost of the laptop itself.

That actually is Delpiero's testing :). My test results are very similar:
    In-Game performance:
    - Preset ultra, 1920x1080: Avg: 28.267 - Min: 24 - Max: 34
    - Preset very high, 1920x1080: Avg: 36.980 - Min: 23 - Max: 52
    - Preset high, 1920x1080: Avg: 38.775 - Min: 14 - Max: 49
    - Everything maxed (including AA), only dynamic shadow on normal, 1920x1080: Avg: 30.490 - Min: 19 - Max: 40

But what do you mean with the 25 fps at high? That's not really playable.

I for some reason or another cant even play WoW on ultra with more than 15fps and this is bothering me...did I do something wrong?? someone help pleassse

    @ delpiero223
could you try to install the official amd driver from here AMD Catalyst or here AMD Catalyst 13.1 WHQL Download.
When they dont work you could try the beta driver AMD Catalyst or the drivers from leshcatlabs.net ← Keeping it Simple. Ads free..
The leshcatlabs drivers are mostly the best, because they have the intel and amd driver and are optimized for dual graphic notebooks.

One more question, what a panel type the samsung has? here Test Samsung Serie 7 Chronos 770Z5E-S01DE Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests they say it is a TN panel. But this is impossible, because of the excellent viewing angles. Is it an IPS or a MVA Panel?

Sadly WoW runs horribly in this laptop, I'm waiting for AMD or Samsung to release updated drivers for the gpu. I have to run the game with every settings on low to achieve 60 fps at 1080p :c

yes I have put it on high performance mode...when do you think/ how long does it usually take for the proper drivers to be released, and do any of you think that there will be many less issues with updated drivers??

and chaospress I went to the AMD website to download the driver updater but it says that I have unsupported hardware??

Hi. I plan to purchase a Samsung Series 7 Chronos HD 8870 w/ a non touch screen. It appears that you have not tested Arma III on your laptop. If you are interested, i own 3 Arma III alpha lite keys on Steam, that can give you access to solo "showcases" (sort of mini tutorials to demonstrate the beast). Since I am new on this forum I do not know how to send private messages. Send me a private message if you want a Steam key.
    Thanks

EDIT : all keys were given.

    Hi!

I'm using a NP770z5e laptop but when I run GTA IV, i only get an average frame rate of 14! I wonder how you got it to 39 though! Hope you reply :)

PS: I've switched the graphic properties to maximum performance for GTA but when i run benchmark test, it shows Intel(HD) under the "Video Adapter" column.

About wow performance: just place shadows to low and turn off vsync. Ive had low performance issues on my desktop 7850 only by tunning down those two options gave me stable 60 fps. Also try turning off aa and af. Dont expect turbo performance as wow is not that optimized and has a lot of eye candy.

I just testet Arma 3 Alpha but think, it didn't use the AMD GPU, but the Intel HD:

29 fps avg. with standard settings and full hd. I think this was intel-performance, could this be?

After the benchmark I just removed Arma 3 and now need to redownload it first ... *headbang*

    edit:

okay, it really used AMD graphics. So 29 fps on standard settings and ~40 in low are final

Hey so I need some help. Ima noob when it comes to gaming on PCs but first Idk exactly how many fps im running on skyrim at ultra but I know its not 30, and second when I go to the options pageon the skyrim menu to switch my graphics card it only gives me the option to use the Intel HD 4000 but there is no option to use my 8870m? I have already gone to the gpu control settings and run both Skyrim Launcher.exe on high performance and TESV.exe on high performance but there is still no option or the game isn't recognizing the 8870m? how do I get it to use my AMD card and not the integrated????

Gra[hics Issue.PNG this is the menu and on the graphics adaptor drop down it only gives that option, no option for secondary gpu....how do I get it to recognize the other graphics card? I already set all steam/skyrim to max settings and enabled my fans...I play WoW on ultra with anti and multi all the way up at an avg of 40fps why cant skyrim recognize my gpu?
