For the Silent Mode it should be F11 if I remember correctly (the key with the fan symbol)

I have already right clicked and set my switchable graphics to always on maximum and added steam, skyrim launcher, and tesv, to the maximum performance status, and I have turned my fans on, I know when they are off cuz WoW runs at 15 fps but I turn them on to run 60fps....no matter what I do when I pull down the graphics adapter drop down menu it gives me no option to select the 8870m graphics card

No, there are versions with an 8770m or 8850m. Or do you mean that all the 8870m's have gddr5? Because that do all 8870m's have indeed.

So I THINK I have updated to the 13.3 beta...but the options menu still doesn't show that I am using the 8870m, but I am running a good 25-30 fps on all ultra settings with mods...what do all think??

there is a version with 8750m also which weighs least amongst all-about 2.06kg....
stumbled upon a product info page about this version of chronos once but cant seem to find that link again....
    so in all, there are 4 versions: 8870, 8850, 8770 and 8750

Ubisoft just answered, they can't help, because drivers are from Notebook manufacturer.

So my question: did anyone get AC3 to better performance with other drivers?

    Hi delpiero223,

    Hallo,

Thought they screwed up your brightness - then you had to use the brightness fix which then stops the laptop coming out of sleep...or has a new updated driver been released?

No. You must simply keep your intel drivers and only uninstall the AMD ones. Then you install 13.5 beta 3 and everything works :).

Hey guys i ended up buying the laptop but it seems to under perform on some of the games compared to you guys. i was running tomb raider 2013 and i was getting FPS of 25-31 on medium settings and that's what you where getting on ultra. I installed the new 13.5 drivers, i turned off silent mode, and i configured the game to run on high performance in the switchable settings. i have tried other games and they all don't do that well either. Did i miss a step and forget to change the settings somewhere? did you change anything under CCC?

Can anybody verify or gainsay the following statement i found in another forum?

"Again, as I mentioned, the PSU is only given an overhead of about 3-4W and I never saw power draw exceed 93.7W under load whether it was in 3dmark 11 or TF2. I'm pretty sure that the hard programmed limit is somewhere between 94-96W with this 90W PSU. This is fine for the 8770M system since the GPU isn't exactly super powerful but it could spell disaster for the 8870M system unless its equipped with at least a 120W PSU!"

Not a gaming performance problem, so much as a bug, this. Does anybody see random dark boxes, often around buildings in Far Cry 3?

According to online sources ( Shader/ shadow bug | Forums ) it's an AMD Enduro problem. I hadn't noticed anyone complaining about it here whilst doing profiling, though.

OK, having done a bit more research, it is mentioned in Pranktank's review thread, rather than this one.

The best recommendation seems to be to use DX9. I have seen the problem in DX9 mode (or while FC3 says its in DX9 mode), but it seems like I need to make sure the DX9 executable is the one running, so I'll try that again.

Some people seem to think it's due to the Intel drivers. Was there an older version of the Samsung-supplied Intel drivers available?

There appears to be another big thread about the issue here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/698319-far-cry-3-7970m-13.html

i have the 13.5 beta 3 drivers in my 8870m and the intel graphic drivers updated with SW updater. (this is the best possible choice in this moment i guess... what more can i do??)

and the black squares, or black boxes bug is still happening in Far Cry 3 with DIRECTX 11

With DirectX 9 everything is okay.

I guess the best choice is just playing Far Cry 3 with directx 9, not so much diference in high-medium quality between directx 9 and directx 11 in my opinion.

PD: Can you use the directx 11 savegames in the directx 9 session ???

because i try EVERYTHING, and its IMPOSSIBLE to use the progress made under directx 11 when you play in directx 9. This is soooooo stupid that i cant ing believe it.

I have to star everyrhing from the beginning.

Why would AMD need to answer? Their drivers work perfectly on this laptop. Just download. Remove previous ones. Reboot, install and you're done :).

I don't know if AC3's problems are fixed though if that's the problem you wanted to report to AMD rather than the compatibility of their drivers with the chronos.

So... does anyone have a general sense of how much slower the US version with 8770m is than the versions with 8870m? In terms of gaming performance -- I don't have any concerns with performance of the Chronos 7 overall (well, that HDD will have to go). So far the US version Chronos 7 is on the top of my list (and I need a new laptop soon, the old 2009-era one with ULV is quickly becoming obsolete and a real burden to use). My only hesitation is whether I should wait and see if something comes out with a better GPU. I don't do a lot of gaming, but don't want to be hobbled by a slow GPU when I do want to play the occassional game.

I agree with cefx, its meh... That's fine for people who just want to game, but dont expect amazing performance. It's somewhere between GT 640M and 650M in my experience. On the newest driver, getting ~25-40 FPS on GTA IV, medium settings 1080p. Generally most games run at a good rate at medium settings 1080p. Light games like CoD4 and CS: GO can be maxed with full antialiasing at 1080p. If you drop to 1600x900 there is huge performance improvement so if you're OK with that then you'll have a great experience.

An advantage to the 8770M versions is there is no throttling ever from my experience. And the 8770M stays cool, max 75C under load. So the overall computer doesnt get hot even after gaming a few hours. Not sure how this compares to the 8870M version tho, but I imagine it gets a bit more toasty.

Thank you for the analysis Metroid_III! It sounds like I would be quite happy with it. Perhaps, if it runs so cool and never throttles, it would over clock well?

@delpiero223 how do you get the comp to only use the 8870? what program are you using?

Also when trying to launch tomb raider i only see the 4000 chipset as GPU to load with and on ultra im getting 21,7 FPS. Shouldnt the 8870 be an option?

    Thanks!

I don't have this laptop but on another one I think it did the same for me, it shows the integrated but when the game launches I'm pretty sure it goes to your dedicated. I doubt intel hd 4000 could get 21 fps on ultra on a game like that.

Hey guys, sorry for the revival.

But I'm interested in either getting this samsung laptop or possibly a celvo with a gt 765m/770m. Now I know that the celvo wins through it's hardware alone, but I would like a laptop with decent build quality. I would also like a laptop that can play games decently, but I don't want to spend too much money, otherwise I would be better off investing in a desktop pc; hence my little conundrum :p

So this question is a little broad and perhaps belongs on a different section of the forum but, does the Samsung's build quality justify not going for the celvo? Or would it be like I'm paying a premium for only a little gain?

Having both a samsung series 9 and a plastic asus "entertainment" model I have experience in both spectrums, and while I would say I don't mind plastic, the series 9 has made me enjoy what its like having a sexy laptop :)

    Many thanks.

    P.S,
Also don't plan to game at 1080p that much, will probably stick to 720p.

Hey guys, haven't commented on here in a while. I went to download the 13.9 driver, when i went to install i get a message from amd catalyst that says my systems are incompatible. does anyone have any insight on this? also i haven't seemed to be able to un-install earlier drivers successfully. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am at such a loss on these things!
