    http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/637354-wheres-my-expresscache-menu.html

Just earlier: http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/638783-some-new-progress-expresscache-issue.html which reminded me to post about my new findings.

I decided that the HFS partition seemed to be correct. The ExpressCache option will be missing unless the Diskeeper programme locates the partition. It throws an error if you manually install.

    Steps:

    1. Delete any partition volume on the Sandisk iSSD P4 using diskmgmt.msc or Disk Management.

    2. Download and install MacDisk from MacDisk for Windows

    3. Format a HFS partition (or HFS+ if your model has iSSD capacity of greater than 8GB) by following the onscreen instructions.

    4. If you have left the ExpressCache software and driver as it has been, reboot and you will find the context menu for ExpressCache appearing again in Easy Settings. If not, follow step 5.

    5. Download Easy Software Manager and install.

    6. Install Easy Settings and the ExpressCache driver from inside Easy Software Manager.

Reboot and you will now find the context menu for ExpressCache appearing in Easy Settings. Note that if upon rebooting you cannot find the context menu in Easy Settings, please reinstall Easy Settings and ExpressCache drivers again.

If you cannot find the EC driver, here it is:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?43qjveceh49zn9p

    Hope this helps you!

    Regards

Some users report that EC does not show up in Easy Settings. In such cases you may check the EC status

Hi, yknyong, thank you very much. After I format the SSD to HSF, the expresscache menu finally appears. There is one thing to remaind. If you have already installed the expresscache driver and easy setting, you should first uninstall (maybe need reboot) and install these two program, then the expresscache menu can appear in the easy setting.

About to try this now, i was running HBC to try to recover the old partitions lmao this seems much more promising. I'll report back.

I think its working, my computer seems to start up faster. I followed you step to a T. I cannot get it to show up in easy settings. I'm not sure what drive is the express cache driver? Samsung
None of them clearly say they are the express cache driver. So i have uninstalled easy settings, the HCEI driver, and the Intel Rapid Storage Driver. Then re-installed them all after a reboot. Then rebooted again, and still nothing. In easy settings for the express cache. Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

You must download Easy Software Manager, the ExpressCache software is listed under Miscellaneous tab.

Open the Start Menu. In the search line, type services.msc and press Enter. Look for the service ExpressCache. If it's there and started then it's installed.

I don't have it visible in easy settings either, but since it works just fine and I don't want to change anything with it, I don't care. :)

When I just got the S7 and played around with it, I think that I somewhere saw what was currently cached by ExpressCache, but I can't find that feature now. All Easy Settings offers is to toggle it on and off, and also clear it, but not show what's on it.

Not very important, just curious. :)

It is supposed to be just below the reset button. Shows space used and free with percentage.

I don't mean how much space that is used on it, I mean what's actually on it. I was pretty sure that I saw it somewhere when I played around with the S7 the first days, and I could see what programs that was cached etc, but I can't remember where.

You might be recalling Speed Boot. In Easy Settings, on the General page is a section for Speed Boot. If you click Advanced, you see a list of exes.

Speed Boot just adds a delay to the startup of some auto-start exes so that they don't all try to start at the same time.

I don't think that was it, I just check it to be sure, and I have another image in my head, but perhaps I am mixing it up with something else. I'll see if I have some time to dig a little deeper this weekend.

You can use the Sandisk P4 as a fast storage by putting your pagefile, cache there. However, since you already have a fast SSD, it is of no use as it is slower.

I just bought the NP700Z5A-S06US model and I can't seem to find any information about Express Cache on the PC. I tried following the guide but when I go to disk management, there is no SSD listed. The hard drive has 3 partitions: SYSTEM - 100 MB, WINDOWS 680 GB, and a recovery partition which is 18.45 GB. Express Cache isn't showing up in Easy Settings or Easy Software Manager. Any help?

It may not have ExpressCache at all in this case. Go into devmgmt.msc or Device Manager and see if a SSD 8GB is listed?

    Hello,

I registered because I have problems with the express cache. My Laptop is a S03 and it has this cache but it was not new and all drives were empty.
The problem is that nothing seems to work with the express cache. I have tried like it is discribed here, but no change. In the window the cache options are missing.
What worked is to delete the cache with gparted live cd. The for the next start I have the options fot the cache and it is formatted, but the programm shows that there is nothing on the cache. When I try the eccpm.exe -info it can´t find the cache.
When I try to run the start optimization the cache options disapear.

Perhaps somebody had the same problem and was able to solve this?

Btw: Excuse my english, I´m german :)

    Regards
    Stefan

Bought a Series 7 yesterday, and an SSD upgrade is imminent for me.

My thought, to retain SOME value of having that storage onboard, is to move the pagefile onto it, and free up a few gigs of very precious valuable capacity on the primary SSD.

Question is: once we migrate to an SSD, in order to retain access to the ExpressCache disk, do we simply uninstall the ExpressCache software from Add/Remove Programs, then format through Comp Mgmt? Or will uninstalling the utility remove access completely to that drive?

You just need to format the P4 iSSD through diskmgmt.msc as a NTFS drive. You don't need to install ExpressCache software at all.

    Hello,

I was not able to solve this problem.
Could anyone send me the express cache driver from the recovery partition?
I think there must be files that are not included in the package on the samsung web site. The one listed here is the same.
Unfortunately I don´t have this recovery partition on my laptop.

    Thanks
    Stefan

The file given should be sufficient. It contains a complete version of the installer.

You must install the x64 driver from the ExpressCache_Samsung folder and the Setup from the SDK.

Have you looked in the BIOS setup to see if there is a switch to enable the ExpressCache? BIOS upgrades sometimes mess up the existing settings.

Just have a quick question. Why sometime Easy Setting does not remember the setting for EC? Mine happended often. Not sure what EC cached but right now I only see a small amount of the disk, especially I run 5-6 programs constantly.

I am not sure about that. Seem like the SSD only take a little bit amount despite that I open a lot of software. Easy Setting indicates only 1% has been cached at all. Maybe I will try to reset cache and see if it still not working.

    Hi.

I have the 700Z3A-S02SE and have just replaced the stock HDD with an 160GB Intel 320 SSD.

I have, as many others, encountered issues when trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 on the SSD. As I understand the reason is that the Windows 7 installer is not able to create both the 100MB installation partition and the normal windows partition to the SSD disk as the presence of the express cache disk is confusing the installer. (The Intel SSD is Disk 0 and the EC is disk 1, but I don't think that is relevant)

Before I continue I'd like to check whether I've understood what to do:

    1) There is no way to disable the EC disk in bios, correct? (I have BIOS version 10D)

    2) In order to install W7 I have to delete the EC partition on the EC disk. Will the Windows installer put the 100MB installation partition on the EC disk or the Intel SSD?

    3) I assume that I really don't need the EC feature when I have a fast SSD as main disk?

    4) If I later want to replace the Intel SSD with a conventional disk I can clean install Windows 7 to that disk and then re-enable the EC using the procedures in this thread?

    Thanks

    Raathass

before looking the web for that da...n express cashe issues I tried to get it working by full repartiotioning and reinstalling windows. My problem with express cashe was that when the laptop started and logged in the sandisk issd p4 appeared in device manager and easy settings but after a few minutes it dissapeared from both. If I restart laptop it still doesnt appear but if I shutdown and turn on it appears again. Before it was working well.
I tried reformat the issd but neither windows diskmgr nor other soft could do that.

Someone did have the same issue as you have mentioned, but this is likely a hardware issue (iSSD becomes flaky) and you need to get Samsung to fix it for you.

    To answer your questions.

    1. No way that I know of.

    2. Use manual install though Advanced Disk Options and select the Intel SSD. The 100MB partition will be on the same disk as your windows installation.

    3. You do not need it. You can create a NTFS partition on the iSSD P4 and use as pagefile disk or for storage purposes.

    4. Yes you can. Please follow the instructions in OP strictly.

    Thanks.

One question, though. Today I'm trying to use the advanced disk options to install w7. I have three partitions

    Code:
    Disk 0 Unallocated space 149GB 149GB
    Disk 1 Unallocated space 0.0MB 0.0MB
    Disk 1 Partition 1 7.5GB 0.0MB Primary

Selecting disk 0 and clicking next results in the "setup was unable to create a new system partition..." error message

You confirm that W7 installs normally to disk 0 if i remove Partition 1 from Disk 1 and leave the whole disk unallocated?

I've tried that, but with no luck. Setup is not able to continue regardless of whether Disk 0 is unallocated or formatted.

What is suggested earlier in this thread is that the w7 installer gets confused when there is more than one disk attached to the system at the time of the install. The issue is that disk 1, the EC, is not possible to dismount/remove. One positive thing, though is that it is only 7.5 GB large and that w7 needs 8.5 and thus would (should) select disk 0.

However, I'm not convinced that removing the partition on disk 1 will do anything to the installers ability to install to disk 0. It could, however, be that the installer halts because it finds an unknown file system and that removing that partition would solve the problem.

[EDIT] I got impatient and deleted the express cache partition. Now installation to disk 0 works as a charm :).

This machine is really starting to annoy me.

Windows installed just fine, but at the first restart nothing will load and the screen just flashes. Apparently the machine does not see the SSD because if set the boot order to be SSD -> USB the machine boots to USB when it is inserted.

I tried to install again and noticed that the installer had put the 100MB system partition on the EC disk, and windows on the SSD. Deleted all partitions and created and formatted the EC disk. At the next install Windows was put on the SSD but there were no 100MB system partition!

I have never before run into this much trouble. Why can't Samsung just create a BIOS where it is possible to dismount the EC disk?

There is so thing that makes me notice. First of all, Windot won't install on partition that less than 20 GB or whatever the amount Microsoft recommended. So there is no way Windows installer would allow to be installed in iSSD, thus, the iSSD won't have anything because the install might be failed after that. Second, Windows will create System Partition (100MB) out of the disk that it is installed, so if the installer chose the iSSD, it would create the parition from that disk. Third, what kind of error when you choose the big partition? There are a lot of error messages and you need to specific which one. As once time, I tried to install Windows 8 into another partion. However, the install could not be completed because the HDD disk was not GPT. There are some Win 7 versions won't allow this type of install as far as I knew. Anyway, in order to install, you need to convert a whole disk into GPT from MBR by using some software in DOS.

I'm not sure if i follow you completely

    1) The installer was not able to continue as long as there were a partition on the iSSD with HFS filesystem. I don't remember the exact error message, and now I've refitted the original HDD.

    2) Once I deleted the partition on the iSSD leaving both disks unpartitioned, the windows installer started normally.

    3) However, when both disks had no partition the installer chose to create the 100MB partition on the iSSD and the windows partition on the SSD. When I created a partition on the iSSD the installer chose not to create any 100MB partition at all (both with of without a partition on the iSSD).

    5) After the first iteration of the installation (the first reboot) the laptop started turning itself of and on continuously (the screen blinked between black and grey).

I specifically sat HDD before USB in the boot priority setting, and I noticed that the laptop booted directly from the USB stick when that was inserted. However, the SSD was visible in BIOS.

    Thanks for the effort.

First of all, you need to delete the partition of the iSSD completely before any installation. Second, using some partition programs to create a partition in the HDD, so that you would like to install Windows onto that. Then install Windows on that partition. After that, follow the guide to get back EC. The most important thing you need to remember that when you install Windows, the partition of iSSD needs to be delete so that Windows cannot do anything to that. Also, make sure you have one partition available inside the HDD.

    Ok.

The aim here is not to get the EC back, it is to make a clean installation of windows 7.

The installer starts fine if there is no partition on the iSSD, but after the initial phase (the first restart) the machine will not boot, it goes into a cycle where it turns itself of and on constantly making the screen blink.

I don't know if it is relevant, but I'm not able to get the 100MB system partition on the same disk as the windows installation, it either installs to the iSSD (if there is no partition on it) or it is not created (if there is a partition on the iSSD prior to the installation).

Hehe, your laptop is unique :D. By the way, if there is no unallocated partition, there is no way that Windows gonna create a system reserved partition unless it askes you to allow it. Moreover, because the way of the installer works which does not allow to install to disk that has less than minimum space requirement, so that not possible the System Reserved would be on the iSSD.

Also, as you described, that might not a problem with the Windows installation. You might have experienced some kinds of issues with other components. So I recommend you to check other things after reinstall Windows again on a fresh disk with the iSSD disk is completely deleted. One thing that I notice you said that the laptop would turn on and off repeatedly, that indicates a problem with hardward. I have an model of Compaq laptop and that model had an issue with onboard Nvidia graphic, so that whenever you boot on, it just turn off and restart and cycle again.
