Whites are white? They have the exact same color space, just calibrate the screen properly...

    Hey,

thank you for this description.. it worked. But only on the hardware site.

My problem is, that I can not install the Samsung driver into the fresh installed Windows 8. Samsung Update Plus sais to me, that no driver updates are available and I have the newest stuff installed... but it is a fresh install of Windows 8.

I disabled Secure Boot and my guess is, that Samsung tries to verificate the Notebook and without Secure Boot it does not recognize the notebook correctly...

What did you do? It just ran out-of-the-box?

Can it also be, that Windows is not installed as an UEFI-Version, since the BIOS does not support any option to boot the harddrive or USB stick in UEFI mode?

    Thank you.

UPDATE: I got it!. You should use SW Update and not an other software. I have written down my experience in an guide:

A complete SSD installation guide can now be found under http://maddin.blog.com/2013/04/29/chronos-ssd/.

I can attest. I have a MBPr and the screen is amazing, of course, but OS X is a disaster to use and I loathe it more and more every day.

Some people really like Apple products - and have good reason to. Others don't - and have good reason to. That's a fair discussion to have. But let's make sure it doesn't get personal. It's just computers, after all ;)

NEED HELP - THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO TONIGHT

    1. Recover to the factory settings using f4 and follow prompts.
    2. make an image onto a 32GB USB stick runing from the Samsung recovery program.
    3. Swap out the drive
    4. Upon reboot go into f2 bios and set it to but from the USB stick.
5 Boot from the USB stick.
    6. Use the Samsung Recovery Program to make and image on teh new SSD
    7. Reboot and f2 to bios to reset the boot priority back to the SSD
    8 reload Civ V and Lightroom4

    NEED HELP

I have completed items 1 - 4, when I went to boot from my USB, rather than loading windows (which is what I expected) it went into the samsun recovery program. It sees my 512GB SSD I just installed (at 476.9GB) and says after recovery I will have C: with 34 GB and a D with 425.2 GB and a sligtly grayed area that i assume is the rest of the drive and will be ht enew recovery area. Do I just hit recover or should I realocate between C and D?

If this thread is going to start going down the "my mac is better than your PC" route (or vice-versa), rather than actually discussing the new Chronos, I suggest it might be time this thread was shut down!

    Please keep conversations on topic!

Thanks "moderator"... But I would like to hear how the new drivers are working/not working. Otherwise, I think the mac/pc argument will continue until Samsung actually gives us something to talk about. It seems we've all grown tired of speculating.

I agree there is a limit to how far off topic and for how long a discussion should go. Still, this was a pre-release thread from the beginning, and it has contained both a lot of speculation (as we waited for Samsung) and some detours along the way. I don't see a huge problem with that, as long it doesn't get completely out of control and the discussion remains civil. That is particularly true if it means the detours and speculation can be contained to this thread.

If it gets to a point where either the thread goes silent -- or the OP and thread regulars requests it, we can of course close it.

Update: Seeing nmdehaan's response: My point was NOT to suggest this thread be closed, as long as there is activity. On the contrary, I meant to emphasize that small detours and speculation are more acceptable in this thread -- as long the tone remains civilized.

That said, there are several other threads in this forum which also cover the 2013 Series 7 Chronos models. I think most participants here are aware of that.

New 8800 drivers? I'm not seeing these on SW Update and I thought it had been decided that the AMD Beta drivers didn't give Switchable Graphics-ability!? Where are these from?

The newest drivers are 13.2 beta but they don't support the 8870m, resulting in a very bugy experience when installing them.

Actually the latest drivers are 13.5 beta, but I guess that installing them would result in the same buggy experience

    Hey,

I just fine tuned your guide to install an SSD into 7705ZE and add hints to install Windows 8 in UEFI mode as well as the installation of all drivers, which is a bit tricky.

    See my post on http://maddin.blog.com/2013/04/29/chronos-ssd/

You'd need the mobility drivers - but even the 13.5's don't support the 8870m

Got back from home London today. I looked at this notebook a couple of times while there and ultimately decided to forgo purchasing. It looked great & was light & nearly ticked all the boxes I was looking for in my next notebook but issues such as Drivers not being updated in many months on a new machine is pretty pathetic and not confidence inducing from samsung who you have to rely on for driver support.
ATIV (what a stupid designation to be confused with something from apple) replacing the chronos in a few months will probably be around the time other manufacturers announce their own similar notebooks that may offer more.

If this had come out a few months ago in the US I would have jumped on it at release but Samsungs dithering has most likely moved me on to something else come haswell unless ATIV remains the best offering at that time.

I found a way to import the 770z5e chronos 8870 to the united states directly from a major store in the UK, plus u get a a VAT tax refund so the price works out to be reasonable. They also sort out the shipping.

If interested PM me, not gonna ask u for money :p just gonna give u the instructions. It has an email n stuff so can't post public.

Hm, I bet the stupid backlight works a lot better with black keys than with silver ones. I guess the Chronos was just a beta run for the ATIV Book..still, rocking that 16GB RAM here.

Haswell is a processor micro architecture Intel introduced to replace Ivy Bridge, so it is considered an upgrade. It's newer technology with more efficient power-saving features and requires a new socket and motherboard, but it's still one of Intel's processor micro architectures intending to replace older ones.

Being optimistic I'm guessing Samsung has a big surprise for us Americans. Considering the ATIV Book 6 replaces the Series 5 but has the same specs as the Series 7 (Ivy Bridge i7), The ATIV Book 8 cannot have the same specs as 6 other than color. So what is better processor is going in the ATIV Book 8? Certainly not the higher-end i7's.

With Haswell only a month or so away and no annoucement of the ATIV Book 8 there's no doubt the American ATIV Book 8 will be powered by Haswell.

As for the GPU will Samsung stick to the HD 8870 or is there a chance they may put in a Geforce 700m GPU?

Although I hope you end up guessing right, this is just pure speculation...
PS: If the link to that Swedish website is right, they announce i7 3635QM which is definitely not Haswell.

I wouldn't be too worried about this; Samsung is usually good (at least judging by their phones) at consistently improving or at least keeping the same each piece of the hardware. I doubt they would go for a worse quality screen in an updated notebook.

Strong statements...for speculation. Remember when we were all giddy with positivity that the 8870 would be in the US by early April? *roll eyes*

I haven't even looked at this thread in a while because I'm just on standby; when it's out, it's out! Until then, I have really enjoyed reading books the old fashioned way :D

Interesting that the video shows an Intel I5 sticker and something called SideSync. I am guessing the latter is something to do with NFC.

The i5 sticker was weird, I do not think we will see a configuration of Ativ Book 8 and i5.

Following is the official Samsung reference to SideSync:

    Flexibility and Convenience Across Devices

Samsung customers will now enjoy a completely integrated experience across their smartphones, tablets and PCs, thanks to SideSync technology, the first of several new ATIV features that will be introduced this year. This new technology enables users to seamlessly switch from working on their PC to their Android-based Samsung smartphone by simply connecting the two devices via a USB cable. When connected, users can respond to a text on a mobile phone from their PC keyboard; view maps, photos and multimedia from their phone on their PC screen; make edits to files on their phone via their ATIV PC; and even drag and drop files from one unit to another. The result is a more seamless experience, fewer interruptions to work and everyday life, and the ability to utilize the best features of both devices.

SideSync is compatible with all ATIV notebooks, laptops, tablet devices and All in One PCs with Windows 8 (32/64 bit), and currently supports Samsung Android-based devices. It will be pre-loaded as a desktop app on all Windows 8 ATIV models.
