You guys please take the time to actually read through the thread that you're posting in. Multiples of the same questions have been posted time and time again. Yes the HDD will always be replaceable with an SSD provided you can access the internals, this is not a Macbook Pro Retina. There is a 99.99999999% chance that you will not be able to have both an HDD and SSD as this was done on the previous model by replacing the optical drive with a caddy. If anyone has paid any attention whatsoever this laptop will not have an optical drive, and therefore no space for two hard drives.
Yes, it will come out this year as stated many times on many pages.
Please take the time to read the thread; it is being cluttered with questions that have been previously answered, and it is more difficult for readers to get the information they need as a result.
Any and all information you want is more than likely found on the following website:

So the max ram is 12 still? They talked about 16... Damn, they are stuck with 4gb soldered. No 16gb chance no party.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
That will depend on the configuration the marketing people in the destination country decide to order from the factory. 8GB on board will add to the cost since there should be at least 4GB in the slot to get dual channel performance. The majority of users don't need 8GB RAM but I hope the marketing people also appreciate that some people do want more RAM (and a willing to pay a little extra).

what does widi capable mean? Does it have widi out of the box or not
-
Wireless display. Yes it should support that out of the box.

I'm actually reading this thread from day one and haven't encountered anything about replacing the HDD with SSD. Maybe it was written here, but my eyes could have skimmed over it? All in all I don't know much about the technical side of replacing an HDD so I think my question was pretty legit since this is a forum for these kind of questions.
So I want to apologize for me being part of this engaging forum community. Sorry for doing exactly what this forum is meant for!?
In other words, your rant isn't contributing anything here. Please stick to the topic instead of triggering me and other people in a discussion on what we CAN and CAN'T ask, I'd like to decide that for myself. This will prevent this thread from really getting cluttered by posts like I'm writing right now. It will also prevent the potential 'useless' discussion (which has nothing to do with this laptop), that is likely going to start when your reply on this post.
So please keep this topic clean. After this message I will not reply on anything out of topic anymore, if you want to discuss anything with me personally you can PM me.
Samsung Notebook Web Contents <- and this is undoubtly a good website, but it doesn't even say which i7 processors will be in all different models. That is why it is perhaps wise to browse trough all retailers information to uncover a more detailed overview on things. -
I've emailed some trustworthy Dutch retailers and they're stating to start shipping both the Ultra and Chronos series from mid-february.
NP740U3E Ultra €1299
NP770Z5E CHronos €1399 -
His post was not only adressed to you but also to those who asked for prices, dates and other questions that had been answered quite a few times or no-one knows the answer to yet. Also the ssd question has been answered more than once I believe.
About the cpu's: almost every link posted here to a reseller selling a series 7 chronos with an i7 had an i7-3635qm in the description of the product. One had a 3610qm in it but I doubt that it's correct. -
It will always be a soldered CPU. Not sure if Samsung will even do i5 for Series 7 anymore.
-
They say "capable" because it has an Intel Wifi card that supports widi, but you will always need to buy a receiver to be plugged to your external display or TV
EDIT: Did they update fishingtree pages?
Serie 7 H - Touch
Serie 7 H
Serie 7 M -
If you read the manual posted earlier, it explains how you exchange your harddrive in the computer to another one by using the usb port to copy stuff from the old to the new etc. It doesn't mention it, but it seems to be only one harddrive slot(by the lack of mention of having several).
I couldn't find anything about mSATA either -
Yeah all of use use 4 virtual machine ever... -_-' cmooon 12gb it's enought for 99% of us....

Well I apologize if my question in this thread offend anyone.
But in my defense, I have actually researched it myself on a lot of websites which just obviously only gives out standard specifications. And yes I did read some pages back but there's I see no discussion on this matter so you can't say it's been discussed "over and over" again.. I admit don't read ALL of the pages, it would be a waste of my time and this is a discussion thread after all. Thus, the question being asked.
Regarding HDD -> SSD straight swap I got that. Same with replacing ODD with another hard disk. Most notebook enthusiast, (e.g users here) knows about it. What I was wondering if there was an extra slot - most probably an mSATA SSD which some laptop do offer. Like my old Envy 14 (500 HDD + 80 mSATA SSD) and some others which I can't remember.
But yeah I get your answer. You seem to know your stuff. Okay so no chance it is.
-
This isn't as good as msata, but it's not just a 1tb HDD, it's a hybrid with 24gb cache(at least according to some video I watched)
-
Bah, who wants to read 59 pages of speculation?!
-
I have to admit I have speculated a lot but there have also been very good updates and links posted regularly by users, as wel as questions and answers.
-
I'm just waiting for some performance test of this new AMD. :\ I keep checking the forum to see if anyones posted anything.
-
Posting new information and updates as well as pricing, website listings, etc. is exactly what this thread is supposed to be for. Speculation (if not redundant) is also fine, this is a discussion thread so you're doing fine. Questions are fine as well and I think some users misinterpreted my comment, it's the repeat questions that cause this thread to have 59 pages that people are unable to sift through to get what they want answered.
Historically speaking, the Series 7 has only been offered with limited CPU choices, in this case it appears that only the i7-3635qm will be available. Also, from previously gathered information the available RAM configurations will be either 8GB (4GB soldered + 4GB DIMM slot) or 16GB (8GB soldered and 8GB DIMM slot) as having two accessible slots in a notebook of this size is unreasonable. Hard drive configuration questions have been beaten to death already. An SSD replacement will require getting a 7mm SSD, not a 9.5mm.
There are 2 models, each with their own sub-categories. The H model is the high end with a 1080p screen, and the M model is medium with a 720p screen.
The H is offered with both a 1080p glossy touch screen as well as a 1080p matte non-touch screen.
Most information can be found here: http://pci34.fishingtree.com/
I'm going to update this post with information answering any new questions regarding specifications that I see in an attempt to keep this thread short and concise. -

Btw there are a few new laptops on the fishingwhatever website.
A 14 inch series 7 ultra, and a series 5 ultra -
- i'm thinking about buying the lenovo Y580 now. but i'm willing to wait for the new samsung chronos to come out. can any of you tell me which has the better screen quality? should i wait for the chronos?
- will you be able to install an SSD in the new chronos? -
The series 7 chronos will definitely have a better screen. It has a matte pls display while the y580 has a glossy tn display. The series 7 will give better viewing angles, better color reproduction, better brightness and the ability to use the screen outdoors.
Yes. This has been answered numerous times. You will be able to install an ssd but you won't be able to use both your ssd and hard drive at the same time because there is no msata slot like there is on the y580. -
It only has a matte screen if you get the non-touch version. Touch is glossy.
-
Oh yes of course, forgot to mention that sorry
-
I'm still unsure about how easy this will be. I agree it probably uses a standard form factor drive, but based on the manual posted earlier, there isn't an easy way to add the drive for replacement. Hopefully it's easy enough.

I wonder if that's also true with the 17"
-
The fishingtree website looks about finished. I no longer see any glaring errors, like before when the Samsung 5 model still had Samsung 7 Chronos info throughout its description.

The available pictures of the Z7E show a slot for an optical drive on the right side. The User Guide linked to a few pages back shows that the ODD is optional. However, the bay is there and should be usable for housing an HDD using a suitable adapter.

That should be no problem at all, just make sure to hang on to the original HDD in case you need to send the laptop in for repairs under warranty.
No one is going to read 60 pages. There are bound to be some questions asked again. If you don't feel like responding, it's certainly understandable, but you can't expect everyone posting here to go back and read the entire thing.
Does this suggest we might be stuck with matte displays? I thought the Chronos Model "H" reviewed at CES had a glossy panel. -
Touch models have a glossy screen and non-touch models will have a matte screen.
-
I know I understand, but one glaring example of what frustrates me is how I posted that on page 57, describing HDD options and such, then on page 59 (that early!) the question was again asked and pranktank was kind enough to answer at the top of this page, 60.
Koolx and fullblast, it is almost certain that you can replace the HDD with an SSD. Please take the time to at least read a few pages back. The form factor will almost definitely call for a 7mm SSD just as the NP700Z5C did. The 1TB on the NP700Z5C was I think 9.3mm in relation to the standard 9.5mm of most SSDs. Getting a 9.5mm replacement caused an issue with the trackpad as it was just barely too thick. I'm betting that getting a 7mm drive for this model, as it is 1/10th" thinner than the last, will be required.
Also, on the last model we have to completely remove the bottom plastic plate (should be metal on the new one) using screwdrivers and a credit card and it seems that this model will follow a similar procedure.
I may be incorrect but I think you're stuck with the glossy screen if you want the higher resolution, as the matte-screened M model will only have a resolution of 1366x768. -
Good post!
I think that you are incorrect about your past point though.
The 770z5e is 1080p matte non-touch, while the 780z5e is 1080p glossy touch -
Yes! There ya go, thanks for the heads up. I didn't know they were offering a non-touch version that was still 1080. Sweeeet.
-
thanks for the info about the SSD.. i just had to be sure about it.
seems like the glossy screen will look better than the matte one.
but is there any word when the new chronos will come out? -

...but it will depend on where you live. -
Didn't the Samsung rep at CES mention something about a February or March release? I swear there was a post about it.
-
One samsung rep said feb-march, but two said April
I would say march + or - a month -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes, great point, hopefully people will at least review the last few pages.
I see you prefer the matte screen while I prefer glossy. Hopefully the Model H will be available with 1080p both glossy and matte. When manufacturers restrict their 1080p display to one or the other, they lose a number of customers, as there are glossy fans and matte fans, but in a high end laptop, nobody wants 1366x768 resolution. -
For the release date: most german retailers say on their sites that it will be in stock and available within the two first weeks of february.
-
is it true that the new chronos will cost $1600?? what the fu'ck??
-
Yes, there were a video from CES in which a Samsung rep mentioned mid April, but he was speaking about touch version. Also Asus U500VZ touch version hasn't come out yet, while the non touch has been out for months. Samsung Italy told me "mid February" too
About the screen, it's lovely that they offer both choices, matte and glossy. Unfortunately there isn't a matte touch, but I can dream for the future, even though I can't stand fingerprints on the screen
Well... i7 quad core full voltage, AMD 8870 2GB GDDR5, 1080p matte or touch display, 11h battery life, all in a full aluminum 2cm-thick case... What do you want from them? Blood? I think it's a very reasonable price. You can even buy a third party SSD and pay the whole pack less than a crappy XPS 15
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
lets hope the touch version doesnt come out too late after the non touch version. I have been reading over the last few pages and everyone wants to add an SSD in this laptop, why is that? Is the 1TG not enough?
-
$1600 for the best equipped one. lowest starts @$1200 preorder. maybe prices drop on release
-
Is there anywhere to preorder it in the US right now?
-
An SSD will be A LOT faster than the 1TB regular HDD, making the PC feel a lot faster when booting, starting applications and working with many apps open.
-
by lowest you mean the M model?
-
You can call Chronos M with its real name that is "Series 5 Chronos"
http://pci34.fishingtree.com/nike2/strategy/570Z5E/
There is even Serie 5 Ultra (13 inch model)
http://pci34.fishingtree.com/miranda/strategy/530U4E/ -
so in the case of the SSD, it would be more efficient to replace it with the standard 1TG harddrive. Or just adding the SDD along with the original hard drive? As you can tell i dont have much experience with SSDs.
