They haven't write anything about touch screen, but the images are clearly of the same model of Chronos seen at CES 2013 that was the touchscreen version and there is an image with a finger on screen.

I'm curios to see the backlit keyboard in action, because the keys seem made in aluminum so the light can't go through the keys but it can only leak out from the edges of the keys:

just for comparison the keyboard of 570Z5E:

Oh wow I actually really like the look of the black outside. I hope that it also features a full hd panel but I'm doubtful. Nice to see that the lower end version also features the 8870m though. What is this ativ book 6/8? This has to be the most confusing series of laptops I have ever come across.

they don't write anywhere about the touchscreen specifically but you can clearly see wich is wich.
for the touch variant you have the picture with the hand on the screen the edge to edge glass covering the screen with black bezel and one hour less battery life 10.5 vs 11.5
the non touch has the grey metal bezel and more battery life with no hand on the screen in the pic showing the display

    @Mac

the light will definetly not be leaking only on the sides...that would defeat the purpouse. probably the aluminum will be only small plates on top of actual plastic keys and the letter markings will be laser etched into the aluminum so the light will pas through the plastic and out the holes in the aluminum

@ pranktank the M version is definetly not getting fullHD as you can see on the description of the 2 15 inch and the 17 inch is written full HD while in the M version it doesn,t write anything

Later edit: You can see from this picture that i am right...small aluminum plates on top of transparent plastic keys with holes in the aluminum instead of printed characters

Yeah me too. Black looks awesome. Only thing I am missing in that version is full hd. I am coming from a 5 year old 1280x800 laptop and I want an upgrade, 1366x768 just seems stupid to me.

How do you think this newer Series 7 Chronos model compares to the latest Series 7 gamer?

The gpu in the series 7 gamer (you mean the one with a 7970m right?) is a whole lot faster but this laptop is half as thin, has 3x the battery life and looks way more professional. If you are a hardcore gamer, this will do well for now but it won't be powerful enough the next few years to max al games out.

Edit: I mean the one with gtx 675m?

I'm really curious about what the 300E5E and 300E4E are.

My guess is that it's somewhere between the series 7 and 9. Somewhat less portable than the 9, but more powerful than the 9 as well.
    But maybe it's haswell?
Samsung has been great with updating that site, maybe it'll be up tomorrow!

Yes, I was referring to the 675M. I suppose there'll be another iteration of the Series 7 Gamer soon-ish as the last one came out around March 2012.

Ah okay, sorry if my post was a little confusing. The 675m still is a whole lot faster than the 8870m and I'm sure another iteration will come out that will make the difference in gaming performance even bigger.

"fishingtree" is really not the best choice in a name for an online store. Hesitant to click the link as I can't help but suspect it might be a phishing site :(

It is not an online store. It's some sort of site where different company's post their lineups, or at least I think.

It has all of samsung 2012 laptops on it, with all the information, etc.

It seems to be quite legit, and no one has had any problems with it(or at least mentioned them).

This is just a speculation, but maybe with the touch screen version they need of the small strip at the top of display lid, because with glass that could be some kind of Gorilla Glass there would be a shield for antennas just like Dell XPS15 L521X, instead the non touch version doesn't need of that strip because there is any kind of glass/shield.

    Yes, it was.

i was thinking about the same thing...the plastic being for the antennae. Only i'm pretty sure it's not the glass ... I think it,s the digitizer that,s acting like a faraday cage together with the aluminium lid ..... doesn't really matter though. I hope i can get a hands on with this laptop before buying it to see if i can live with that plastic piece on the touch. The only reason i would buy the touch version would be for futureproofing as i have a feeling it will become pretty mandatory in 1-2 years. Right now I don't have any inclination in using touch on a laptop

This may be stupid, but is it not possible that the plastic is there so that the keyboard doesn't touch the screen?
Like, there is no raised bezel, no rubber on the keyboard to protect the screen, etc.
maybe the plastic is there to keep the keyboard from having direct contact with the screen.
Lol i just repeated myself 3 times, but I'm trying to make my point clear!

Funny thing the series 5 is renamed ATIV BOOK 6 and series 7 ATIV BOOK 8 on the fishingtree website banners. Imo all the touchscreen versions may be marketed as ATIV BOOK rather than series X.

If that was the purpose, they could use aluminum instead if plastic... I think it's exactly for antennas: capacitive touch screens have an electric field under the glass which gets distortions when you touch it, and monitoring these distortions it's possible to calculate where you touched. It's probable that this electric field interferes with wireless connections, hence the need of some plastic.

Fishing tree was updated btw, 780z5e now says touch screen, and it weighs 2.45kg opposed to 2.35kg.

They've also removed all references to the series 8

Fishing tree is just the holding site for all product pages before being put live to Samsung's site. You are getting the info from the horse mouth, but sometimes the horse itself is also confused because the webdesigner does use the content directly from Samsung.

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but does anyone have a guess as to what this will sell for at launch? When I first saw it I saw it as the direct successor to the Series 7 15.6" with the 1600 x 900 resolution screen that has been selling at Best Buy for 1000 bucks for a while. I'm currently using a Sony F Series I got in July of 2010. I like it because of its 16.4" 1080p display - that was the primary selling point for me. Everything about the 15.4" Series 7 looks fantastic to me but I just cannot bring myself to move to a lower resolution display. I would prefer a 17" laptop, but the ones I want are simply not in the price range I can afford. I believe I can deal with a 15.4" display provided it's full HD like this one. But now I'm reading this is more of a high-end ultrabook? Any input as to what this thing will probably cost would be appreciated. How much were the Series 7 notebooks when they first launched? I initially guessed this laptop would be about 1000 bucks when I first saw it - but I think I'm way off base on that now.

Most likely it has the same CMO panel as in the current 17" Chronos 700Z7C. Gamer moed often comes with a 3D capable display which is different.

It says next week. But I'm not too sure that's true. This is again a 770Z5C and I really can't find a difference between that and the 770Z5E. Does anyone know the difference? They both seem to ofeer full-hd, 8870m, i7-3635qm, 1tb hdd,... only less ram perhaps but I'm not too sure about that either.

Edit: it has both model numbers in the description so I assume it's just the same as the 770Z5E.

I really hope the 8870m is as fast as the number suggests. It seems that samsung is going to put that same gpu in their series 5 which makes me think it's more of a mid-range gpu than a high end one.

This Dutch website states the 8gb Ram is soldered and non-upgradable: Samsung NP770Z5E-S01NL - Laptopshop.nl

Most well known Dutch computer shops have the np770z5e online for days now, but none of them is telling us anything about when they start shipping. Cheapest known price here is €1399.

By the way, anyone knows whether it would be possible to replace the HDD in this notebook with an SSD?

I know the laptop is gonna be given a HDD hard drive or maybe a SSD option.

But is it possible to fit both? So the 1TB HDD + an SSD or even an mSATA SSD? That would be sweet.
