People are not aware of how important is to read the thread.
Only 13" and 15" models of series 7 have PLS displays.

Interesting, thought the matte, non-touchscreen would be first to roll out.

    Buy Samsung NP770Z5E-S02UK Laptop, Intel Core i5, 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB, 15.6", Silver online at JohnLewis.com

Interesting news from a very reliable retailer.. looks like a promising sign of something.

Personally I will be first in the queue for the NP780Z5E as I feel touch screen will be a standard in the next year IMO.

    Wait.

    Wut?

If it has an 8870M, a 3635QM, and a touchscreen, I'll say "screw that, I can upgrade to 12 gigs on my own".

    For $1200, that be mine.

Awesome, so it lookslike the 770 models come with FullHD and not with crappy 1366x768 resolution as someone claimed earlier in this thread. I personally would prefer a matte FullHD PLS/IPS to a glossy touchscreen.

$1199 for NP780z5e is cheaper than the price in Europe, then I will take NP780z5e instead of NP770z5e.

I was wondering that too... I'd be glad to see also 12gb version. The important thing is only the 8gb soldered instead 4, so we can easily upgrade the ram.
I don't understand why Samsung is making 2 different version 1 with 4gb soldered for the 8gb version, and another one with 8gb soldered for 12 and 16 Gb version. Wasn't it easier to make just one mobo with 8gb soldered for all the versions, 8, 12 and 16? It would have made more sense, unless the mobos with only 4gb soldered are older and Samsung wants to get rid of them.

To clarify everyone, the price of $1199.00 is for NP780Z5E-S01UB model with AMD 8770M and 1G dedicated mem. For some it may be the low end laptop.

It would be nice to find out that the touch screen is easily upgradable, so we can buy the cheaper non touch version an then upgrade it :)

I'm actually counting on the 780 to be priced more expensive as its the "premium" feature justifying its increased cost. Essentially the flagship model should be more expensive than the 770 matte screen model (or at least I hope it is).

Meh, I did want those graphics. We'll wait and see - if the 8870 is throttled by poor heat management, I'll go for the 8770M, which should be similar to the 650M in performance.

No, it uses a 3635QM, a quad core, full wattage (there are no ULV quad cores anyways) i7 processor.

The graphics modules apparently can vary up to 8870M, from reports, 8770M models are there.

RAM configs vary from 4-16 gigs, apparently.

They are not ULV, they both are full voltage (not "wattage", whatever it means). ULV processors has a "U" in the name, while full voltage quad core have a QM. ULV CPUs have a max TDP of 17 W, whereas full voltage quad core have 45 W (or 35 W for the 3612QM).

    Hi people!

I've been following this thread and the one regarding the Asus U500vz trying to decide which way to go. Definitely, a big point in my decision is gaming capacity of the machine and have been holding off waiting to see if the performance of the 8870m is better than the GTX650m. According to this chart, the 88xx have instead lower performance than the 7700m, so it should perform worse than the GTX650m, right?

8870M is a rebranded 7870M and should perform similarly or better with tweaks.

Um....yeah, voltage. Not sure what I was thinking.

Also, I expected the 8870M to be equal to the 660M, maybe approaching the 670M on a good day, and that chart doesn't change my opinion, seeing as it was based on the benchmarks handpicked by AMD, whereas the chart merely indicates how AMD is going to try and market these cards, not their power as much.

So the Best Buy model (at least the S01UB) will have the 8770M then? Bummer. I'd like to see the price of the NP770Z5E with the 8870M. No doubt the touch screen 780Z5E with the 8870M will be at least $100 more. Still, $1299 isn't too bad.

Somehow I am confused by the terminology used by Samsung, can someone clarify whether SuperBright Plus = PLS?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGnWpoYcdPI
The video showed the specifications of the Series 7 Chronos and Ultra (2:04 and 4:54), Chronos has SuperBright 300 nits and Ultra has SuperBright Plus 350 nits, does it mean the Chronos doesn't come with the PLS panel?

Superbright can be with or without PLS - it's just a matter of the backlight brightness. I don't know Samsung's threshold for using "Superbright". It's probably 300 nits or above and is used to differentiate the products from those notebooks where the display maximum brightness is 250 nits or even less in some cases (which is getting unreasonably dim and can cause eyestrain).

    Read this:
I prefer MVA panels to IPS panels because have a good black depth and because have fast response time, with color reproduction, however, fairly accurate..

i have been reading conflicting reports, wondering if anything can clear this up for me. So the main difference between the NP780Z5E-S01 and S02 is the memory (from 8 to 16), the slight upgrade in AMD graphics to 8870m and the display? The S01 is not FHD LED display while the S02 is? Are those the main the only main differences between the two models for the 15 in?
