The TN panel in the previous Series 7 Chronos 17.3" was one of the better panels available.

Yes, look at this:

a bit off topic but If i buy this laptop , its 1080p, should i collect 1080p wallpapers or 2560x1440? (both have aspect ratio of 16:9)
-
LOL sorry, it was so obvious
I didn't see it in the unboxing and I worried

can you answer my question above please

If only 4GB is soldered onto the board with 8GB in total, that makes a max of 12GB RAM in this laptop, like the Asus UX51. That and the slow hard disk and non-PLS panel are making me think twice about the NP780Z5E. Also the fact that it's $1699 here in Canada. It'd be really nice to see a slim, gameable machine that could hold 16GB, for less than the price of a MacBook Pro.
-
The $1699 one has 8gb soldered+8gb
-
Yeh you`ll be fine. Just keep 1080p and anything higher resolution but same aspect ratio. With the larger images I`d resize them to 1080p as it make the image look extra crisp with minimal pixelization. I use Paint.net but there are quite a few free image software that`ll do that for you.

Just went to Canada computers
They say that they are not sure when it's coming, but that they have an order incoming -
Awesome. Looks very clean and pretty easy to replace HD. How hard was it to open the enclosure?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD -
Wasn't difficult at all but I'm used to tearing down notebooks. Just be careful with the tabs.
-
They are in the rear but the air shoots upwards. The temperature is more than decent with this laptop, its just aggressive throttling programmed in by Samsung. Once the bios is released by Samsung for download, svl7 over on my forum (T|I) will take a crack at unlocking it + getting rid of throttling. Right now I can't even find it listed on Samsung's site. I think the 8870M version will come in April, that's what Samsung Canada's rep said in one of the videos posted here. It will come with a 90W adapter as well.
-
Video that ships with the 780z5e:
Funny thing is they say up to 75% in house Samsung components but this thing shipped with ADATA ram.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Can you tell what type of screws are there, please? Besides, is there some kind of button to check battery level while the laptop is off?
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
Philips screw, no battery indicator button. -
This design remember me a lot that on Dell XPS 15 L521X, with the adding of dual fan system.
I don't see the soldered RAM slot, this means that is on the other side (just like XPS15).
I wonder if it's not soldered, but only very difficult to achieve (just like XPS15)
Internal of Dell XPS L521X:
Asus U500/UX51 doesn't push air in rear but just in front to display, just like this Samsung.
Cracking or unlocking UEFI, it's much more difficult than BIOS, it seems that svl7 is still trying with Sony Vaio S15 (with Windows 8) and for now without any success. -
Thanks you for answering my question
-
I wouldnt game on the chronos keyboard, i rather buy an xbox controller , anyone else plan to do that or are you ok with the keyboard?
-
Meh. A keyboards a keyboard. As long as it doesn't miss key strokes I don't care. That said, I would expect most people aren't buying this as their primary gaming device. There are definitely more powerful machines for less money out there. If I feel the need for mechanical keys, I'll get on my rig. Also, no PC gamer would trade mouse and keyboard for controller. Controllers are made for couch browsers

Thanks! I was really worried they'd only put one fan in there. I can't wait.
Nobody really answered this question yet: could the np770Z5E-S01fr possibly have an hd screen instead of full hd? because that's what amazon.fr states. -
Maybe is better that you ask directly to Amazon.fr or Samsung France, sometimes they answer even on social networks like Facebook.

Is there an article or something to go along with that screenshot of the internals?

Nope that picture was taken by an owner.

this is weird.. on the amazon site for Spain the NP700Z5C has 8GB of ram while the american version has 6GB.. the link is below.. it looks like future versions of the series 7 will be different in europe and the americas:
Samsung Notebook +ZB Notebook Notebook Series 7 CHRONOS NP700Z5C S01 39,62cm: Amazon.es: Informática -
That's the 700Z5C, not at all related to the 2013 chronos that we all want!
The new models all start with either NP780z5e or NP770z5e -
yes i know.. but the point is that if this samsung model has different components across countries, most likely, the NP780z5e or NP770z5e will have different components also depending on where its sold.
-
Where's the link that says the American version has 6?
-
so I have been readying what you experienced users have been stating about changing the HD to an SSD for faster and smoother performance. I am likely to buy this laptop and want to get the max out of it. Unfortunately I dont have as much experience as most of you when it comes to cloning windows or install an SSD into a new laptop. I was wondering if there is any tutorial someone like me can follow to install the SSD on such a computer.
-
I'm pretty sure that's the older model which isn't really being sold at retail anymore, and that Amazon link only has 1 available, and it's used from a random seller. I bet the newer models come with 8. Just look at Samsung's official US site and you can see that there is a 6GB model, but it's the older model.
-
u missed my point entirely. the point isnt how old this model is.. its that future versions of the series 7 will liikely be different in europe and the americas. thats the point.
-
It really is extremely simple. There's like a 30 minute video on youtube somewhere of a guy replacing his HDD with an SSD in an older Chronos model from 2012 and it's really easy to follow. Just youtube search "samsung chronos ssd install".
It's as simple as opening the bottom by removing 4 or so screws, locating the HDD, unscrewing and unplugging it, putting the SSD in the bracket, screwing it in, plugging it back in, then putting the bottom plate back on. Then boot up and install Windows.
I definitely am getting the Chronos and will be installing this SSD: Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics 840 Pro Series 2.5-Inch 256 GB SATA 6GB/s Solid State Drive MZ-7PD256BW: Computers & Accessories on day 1, before even booting up for the first time. This is the fastest SSD on the market to my knowledge that is still under $500 for a 256GB version. It has over 500mb/s read AND write. I'll buy this on the same day I put the Chronos in my Amazon cart
-
I want to do the same but I don't know how I'm going to manage with only 256 GB...
-
you have the 550Go version availaible
-
I think I shall satisfy myself with the Crucial M500 960GB when it comes out. $599 for 1TB with 500 read, 400 write? Considering I'm currently on a 5400 RPM HDD, I think I shall be more than satisfied with the speed of that, and the space is really nice.
-
lol
........
-
still no chart with differences between versions?
apple should teach samsung, seriously. samsung can make devices but fail hard when it comes to presentation.
what's so hard to put proper information on a website? schools teach you the hard way and this is what it get's after? :x -
All I hope is that nothing cool is released at MWC, otherwise I may get stuck in another waiting pattern. I don't critically need a new system until the Fall. I guess we'll see.
-
Trust me you'll be fine. I have a MacBook Pro Retina (which I loathe, by the way, and its' why I'm switching back to Windows 8) with the 256GB SSD and I thought it would be unbearable. Then I realized that even when I had a 500GB HDD, I NEVER used more than 150GB of it at one time, and I do have a good amount of music, games, pictures, and programs. I even do some heavy video editing.
Trust me, you will be more than fine with 256GB. I have well over 150GB free on this SSD and I even have a Windows 8 partition installed.
If you really think 256 isn't enough, simply get the 512GB version of that Samsung SSD. -
There will be the proper marketing and presentation when it actually gets released here in the US, obviously. Don't worry.
-
Hi, maybe I'm wrong, but near the battery (just above the word "inferno") I see an minipci connector. If this is correct, maybe we can put an msata SSD (like crucial msata 256gb) on it and keep the HDD as well. Please let me know your opinion, if this is correct this will be my next laptop! -
Could be. But I'm still just gonna swap the HDD out. I want to reduce the weight, noise, and heat
-
If you want to reduce the weight the best thing is to put an msata ssd and remove the HDD in my opinion!
-
They're still soo expensive. I have about 100 GB of drop box storage that gets synced to all of my computers and then about 60 GB worth of games. Then all of my software will have to fit on the remaining space. Maybe I'll manage with 256 and wait till prices drop a little more. I bought a 64 GB for the price we can get a 256 GB now.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 -
Are these available in the US yet at stores or a way to order them? I see here people are getting them but confused where to get them from?
-
Can you confirm that your Intel 330 is operating at SATA3 speed?
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 con Tapatalk 2 -
Would it not be more efficient to add the SSD along with the HDD on this laptop, rather than replacing the stock HDD?
-
I don't think the connector just above "INFERNO" is a miniPCI-E connector. See the wireless card just to the right of the hard disk? That's clearly in a miniPCI-E connector, as that is how wireless cards are usually connected and the pins are split into two groups, matching a miniPCI-E card. The connector near the battery looks different its pins are not split. I think I see a ribbon cable coming out of it; I would guess it connects to the touchpad/keyboard/etc.
