We don't know almost anything about CPU/GPU throttling, there were 2 owners of 8770m version in this thread, but they are just disappeared after few posts.
One of them has reported a sligh throttling of GPU while he was performing 3dmark11, but unfortunately he hasn't supplied a log to check the load on GPU or the clock of CPU.

I agree. Everyone is getting cautious about a laptop they have never even seen before or used. Samsung really needs to give release dates though, ASAP.

However, a few pages back someone posted a photo of the internal, and you can clearly read on the battery 91Wh

The battery is the same in the version with 8770 and 8870. The owner said he is getting 6h of normal use, which is probably an hour or so better than UX51, however he did not explain what he considers as normal.

I don't think you can judge a battery that quick and there are models which have 11 hours of battery to significantly less.

11 hours..never with normal use (200 nit) + wlan on.
maybe 5-6 maximum but not more.

on linux there are optimisation tools like jupiter and powertop which can squeeze an hour extra.
but it won't ever reach 11h

i think 11 hours is when the machine is in idle, but not sleep mode. so mim brightness with whatever background process it has running. but not actually applications that utilizes a significant amount of processing power.

btw, for the top line model, do we know if it's full aluminum with unibody construction like rMBP or pieced together like UX51? personally i prefer unibody but pieced together also works for me, as long as the gaps are within reasonable ranges.

Of course it can't last 11 hours, but between 6 and 11 there's a HUGE gap. Usually nominal battery life is overestimated for a couple of hours, not for twice its real value! Hope the kid didn't know how to save power :D

Joker says that he do 6 hours with normal usage.. But what do he means with "normal usage"?
I think it's impossible to have about 5 hours of difference from what Samsung says..

Depends on where you are. I'm in SoCal too - I grabbed one of them from the Yorba Linda store. 8770 model. There should still be one left; they didn't even know they had them! (Good people though, helped me out a lot haha)

If it hasn't been done yet, I will try and get 3dmark11 and post the results on here (along with a few pictures) over the weekend. I plan to be playing with the laptop for a few hours at least.

Can you use Hwinfo64 in log mode to create a CVS file while you running 3dmark11 and post the CVS file in this thread?

As long as it doesn't have long term ramifications to the laptop, I suppose so.

Are there instructions somewhere for what would be most useful for the community, because I haven't the foggiest what to do. Just run HWInfo, then get the 3dmark test going, I assume?

Yes, but you have to set log mode in Hwinfo64, in this way a CVS file will be created then you can run 3dmark11.
If you have some game you can do the same thing.

I think you have to start hwinfo after 3dmark,otherwise it will monitor HD4000 instead of 8770. Am I right?

I'm curious to see if this thing will be able to handle MechWarrior: Online. I'd never play this on my laptop normally, but maybe it'll be a good workout for it.

Samsung claims 11.5 hours with MobileMark2007:
    BAPCo

MobileMark 2007 incorporates the following applications:
    Adobe ® AcrobatReader 7.0
    Adobe® Illustrator® CS2
    Adobe® Photoshop® CS2
    Apple® Quicktime 7.1
    Intervideo® WinDVD® 8
    Macromedia® Flash 8
    Microsoft® Office® 2003 Pro
    Microsoft® Project 2003
    Winzip® 10.0

So I suppose it uses a mix of these applications to simulate some kind of standard use.

The most important infos for me are:

    -full aluminium body?
    -fan noise ?
-display viewing angles good or does it change color when looking from above?
-does it feel cheap when typing?
    -does it flex when typing?
-solid stand or does it wiggle easily?

If you want run 3Dmark11 on HD4000, you have to do a selection in ATI driver control panel.

keyboard deck appears to be aluminum. Lid is aluminum. Underside is plastic
fan is very quiet. Which I find odd as the GPU never seems to be going all out. As Joker mentioned it seems to have a low throttling temp
    Very good viewing angles
Feels very solid and well put together
No it does not flex when typing. But if you push down on the keyboard deck It does flex some.
The screen is solid. Does not wiggle during typing.

I am almost positive that the 8870 version (or the "High" version) is fully aluminum, including the underside. That is to be believed by a lot of people on here as well, I think.

He has the only one that's released...the lower end 8770 version. It's the midline. The high end version is said to have full aluminum.

Series 5 is the mid-line version. He has a 780Z5E Series 7, so it's the High-end model but with a 8770m instead of 8870m, chassis is the same of high-end version.

Can you run 3Dmark2011 with Hwinfo64 in log mode to see what happen to CPU?
It's still interesting that despite this slight throttling 8770m (2200) hit a higher score than GT650m (2100).
Why fans have to go at max speed if temps are not so high?
Maybe the throttling is due to its power supply or is just a BIOS/UEFI setting.

Sure give me a few minutes and I will run it. I will say that my sons Vaio S13 with an overclocked 640LE (bios Mod) runs games better than this machine does.

If your sons have a BIOS mod 1000/1000 it's fairly sure that's so, because it has a clock higher than a GTX660m (835MHz).
I hope that someone has a power supply with more than only 90W to try some test with this machine...

GT640LE, GT640m, GT650m, GTX660m are the same chip with different clocks, so if your cooling system can handle the temps, and the chip that you have is enough good, you are able to outperform the GTX660m.
8770m is at the same level of GT650m.
Unfortunately you can unlock BIOS of Sony Vaio S15/S13 only for models born with Windows 7, with UEFI at this moment is not possible the BIOS MOD.

yes with the identical settings and resolution the 640LE overclocked gets higher FPS in StarCraft 2 and Xcom. Of course the res is maxed at 1600x900 on the Vaio S13 but even when I lower the res on my Samsung to that level the 640 is still faster.

He actually just ordered a new IPS screen to do the mod that was put up a few days ago. It will be a nice little gaming machine.
