I am really wondering about this "NP770Z7E" model that has popped up. I really want the 17" if it's fixed the issues the current generation has!

Sorry guys. I guess it's going on now and it was 5:00 EST. I assumed PST since CES is in Vegas.

Lol why would i want that when I can game on a 15,6" fhd lps screen via the 8870m?
-
Looks like the new Series 9 was announced along with the Series 7. I don't think the S9 will have touch (probably added thickness) but it did get a 1080P display. So maybe the S7 is still the one to look at with it's 10-point touch.

Hands-on with the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos at CES by Engadget

Hands-on with the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos at CES -
Have to say screen looks quite bright and impressive. No way a TN panel here. Must be sammys own PLS display. Just hope now the fan noise is low and cooling is effective like in asus n56vz. If not then asus gets my money.
-
The report has been updated with a video. It's a sexy machine for sure. The viewing angles seem to be as advertised and the screen has edge-to-edge glass. However, the rep now claims 8 hr battery life.
-
Not a great video, but better than nothing I suppose.
In that video he says battery life is 8 hours, perhaps that is with the touchscreen, and without battery life is 11? -
So in that Engadget hands-on article, I don't see any mention about having the HD 8870 card in the Chronos. I thought the Chronos comes with the 8870 and the Ultra comes with the 8570? Did Engadget just get their models mixed up?
Edit: Nevermind, they either just fixed it, or I read the wrong article this whole time.
. It says 8870 now.

It's also possible that he's just getting mixed up with the Series 7 ultra.
This laptops looks great. Screen looks quite good, and the video seems to show that viewing angles are quite good.
However I really wish that it was Nvidia. Drivers, everything are better.
Have any laptops been announced yet that have 700 series nvidia graphics? -
11 hour battery life and a backlit keyboard, for those gloomy redeye flights. (CES)
8 hours with touchscreen?
No more optical disk drive, that's for sure -
Am I the only one who can't see a video on the Engadget post? Maybe because I'm on an iPad?
I won't miss the optical drive, but I will miss the bay which I use for a second hard drive. I don't suppose there is any chance a second hard drive bay is hiding in there. Other than that this looks like the laptop I've been waiting for. -

So if no more optical drive, than how can we replace HDD to SSD and swap the HDD to the optical drive area?

On samsung.com/se (Samsung's site in swedish) it is stated that the recommended price for the Chronos will be 14 500 SEK, which is 2218 USD. I think it will ship without an SSD, which is a great deal imho. Let just hope that there wont be any proprietary connections on the traditional hdd.
The Asus's zenbook U500VZ cost 15999 SEK. -
2218 USD with no SSDs?
there MUST be something wrong

There will probably be more info about that, today or tomorrow. Just hold on
-
Very high prices in Sweden, maybe have you a very high VAT?
For sure it's cheaper than ASUS, also official recommended prices usually are higher than real prices.

I didn't see in last few pages any mention about this so I'll post this little announcement from Samsung Netherlands which states the availability and the price for 14" and 15" models:
"The Samsung Series 7 Chronos and Ultra are from mid-February in the Netherlands for the suggested retail price of 1299, - for the NP740U3E-S01NL and 1399, - for the NP770Z5E-S01NL."
Google Translate in english link: http://www.samsung.com/nl/news/itd/2013/samsung-breidt-series-7-uit-met-nieuwe-notebook-series-7-chronos-en-ultrabook
In Finland (where I live, Yay!) Samsung just announced that Series 7 Chronos will be available in march at the price of 1699 euros and Series 7 Ultra will be available after mid february at the price of 1249 euros.
Copypaste from Samsung Denmark: "Both the Ultra and Chronos model is available with or without touch screen. The models launched in February 2013 and has suggested retail prices from 13,000 Danish Kronor (1742 euros) for Chronos and from 9500 Danish Kronor (1273 euros) for Ultra."
Copypaste from Samsung Norway: "The models will be launched in February. Chronos has recommended retail price of 12 500 Norwegian Kronor (1703 euro)." -
Can I ask you how is your VAT?
it's very strange the German price is around 1400 €...
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 con Tapatalk 2 -
Yes you can
In Finland VAT is 24%, so without it prices would be 1370 euros and 1128 euros. Paying taxes is great! Isn't it
-
In germany it's 19% so with german taxes it is €1630
-
Calculating the prices of consumer electronics hasn't never been that straight foward. Markets are different, competition is different, delivery routes are different, storage facilities are different and so on... These all affect the price of the final product in different countries.
-
Ah I see, thanks.
-
Paying taxes is great only if you receive good services, if you pay a lot of taxes to maintain the corrupt politicians is not good at all
In Italy VAT is 21% not good like Germany that is 19%, but maybe the prices seen in Nordic Countries are only recommended prices even if charged by big VAT, or maybe those prices are for touchscreen version.
In the follow video at 9:24min there is presentation of new Series 7 Chronos @CES2013

Anyone heard anything about the US release date?
-
You are definitely right in that one. Wow, pretty high taxes in Italy, wouldn't guessed that when I visited there vouple of months ago
I'm glad to live in Finland in that case.
Yeah those are suggested prices and normaly we can get somewhat lower real prices. I would guess that real price for the 15" model is 1699 - 200 = 1499 if I compare to previous Samsung's models. -
Just a little OT...
There is a new technology that seems much better than touchscreen, it seems that ASUS will use it in the next generation of high-end notebook and all-in-one PC:

That gadget costs 69.99$ in pre-order, the best thing is that you can transform any old device in a gesture-control system and seems much better than a touch screen system
-
Wow, definitely worth it! Is it possible to transform also a matte non touch laptop screen?

Anyone from here going to CES to check out the Chronos in person? I was supposed to go, but I got deadlines to meet.
For those going and getting your hands on the laptop, let us know what you think!

I just have buy the actual one 700Z7C-S03 and I just have returned 2 of this notebooks because they come with problems, wifi+speakers, and i'm wondering if it is good ideia return and wait for this new model.
Right now I'm waiting for the third unit to prove!
Thanks -
And photograph it, or just take one with you for me
-
Looks really promising, the screen looks gorgeous (I am viewing that video on a full HD IPS screen so I can tell you it looks good lol !)
Second hands on in english this time :
I really love the metal finish on it, its pretty similar to the asus zenbooks, even if it is faux metal and plastic made to look like aluminium I am sold, samsung is quite good at making faux metal finishes you can't even tell by looking at it ahah.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Noooooooooo!
It has a reflective display! Thaught this could be an alternative to the Asus U500, but reflective display - no way. -
Touch screen = reflective display even for Asus U500.

Just learned about the specs for this model and I'm sold, where (or when) do I buy one?
Looks like the perfect lappy IMO. Anyone know if there will be some custom config options like 840 Pro SSD or optional higher end CPU? From what I understand, you can't buy directly on the Samsung website? -
-
I don't know how I feel about the glossy display. Everything else is very impressive. I guess you can't get a touchscreen that isn't glossy. That's why my X1 Carbon Touch has a film over it. It's a bit of a cheap way to do it.
Maybe I'll reconsider the Series 9 if I can get it with 256GB/8GB. You can hear the Samsung rep at 0:28 (second video) confirm that it is NOT a touchscreen. -

Personally, I can't stand matte displays, but I feel your pain. I was going to buy a dv6-7200 Quad with i7-3820QM and Nvidia 650m, but now hp is only shipping the 1920x1080 panel option with matte coating.
Planning to buy a Chronos instead. -
This is what I am talking about- forward looking innovation -now if it could only be integrated into the chronos and the chronos flips like a yoga.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

Looks like there will be different versions for some countries
NP770Z5E-S01DE, ES, SE, FR, HR, NL, UK, IT, PL, EE, RU, TR
NP770Z5E-S02DE, ES, SE, CH
NP780Z5E-S01UK
S01 is cheaper but has lower spec:
Core i5-3230M
HM76 Chipset
8GB RAM
Max RAM 12GB
one memory slot
1TB HDD SATA 5400 rpm
anti glare non touch screen
AMD Radeon HD 8850M 2048 MB GDDR3
1.3 Mpix camera
8 cell 5200 mAh, Li-Ion battery
2y warranty and price of 1100 Euro
-
I wonder when the Series 7 Ultra would be release. If no later than Feb, that is my top list right now!!
-
€1100 is a lot for those specs. It is a little overpriced imo.
