Samsung used the same panel for both 770 and 780. The only difference is the glass for touchscreen but the panel under the glass is matte and that's why is grainy. I had same issue with my Dell XPS 20, it had glass on the front and matte panel underneath. Matte panel is always grainy.

I posted a download mirror for the Crysis multiplayer but I see you've managed now anyhow!
Looking forward to some YouTube videos perhaps of how it holds up? Hint hint
I'm hoping to play Far Cry 3 on this baby on at least 1080p medium settings with 25fps minimum. I will be disappointed otherwise. I think the Crysis 2 performance will give me a good indication of the likelihood of this. -
According to this it can play far cry 3 on high at around 26fps -
On a side note, been having major wifi issues on 5g - really bad connection or nothing at all - removed the Pro-set wifi software and bingo, its working perfectly again. Seems to be some of the drivers/software on this machine cause a few issues at this early stage - but easy to fix! -
guild wars 2 (the one game i want to play on my laptop) really works this laptop hard... -

Also, the colors are deeper on the Chronos across the board. Putting it next to the $900 asus with 1080p screen with the same theme and it doesn't even look like the same colors are being used. I wonder which is closer to correct. -

The screen looked good in all the review i saw....hp and sony fanboy propaganda

I'm finally home for spring break and can finally go to a Best Buy to check this out for myself. I want to put this "graniness" nonsense to bed.

Wow, that's bad! -
In the case of the Chronos, I really don't think it hurts the display. It has crisp display of text and graphics, great viewing angles, deep blacks and colors and excellent contrast. Its among the best displays ive used on a notebook. -
You can't possibly say that this beautiful laptop has the worst laptop screen you've ever seen without feeling like you've overexaggerated a ton. -

And coming from a Retina screen you'll definitely notice it. -
And yes, I will look for myself tomorrow.\ -

Oh, and your high expectations definitely have a lot to do with it. Notice how all of the early adopters of the 8770m model from Best Buy didn't even notice the "graininess" at all until you said something? So, yeah, it does have something to do with it. With your ridiculously high expectations from this machine, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment because you'll be nitpicking every little thing instead of stopping and asking yourself, "Am I really having an abysmal experience everytime I use this laptop?" -
This is turning into a personal argument, let's get the discussion back to the laptop
Screen quality wise, from what I can tell(through people's responses) the screen is great for a 1080p touch screen, but obviously 1080p is pretty bad compared to a retina screen.
Every review that I have read of this computer has stated that the screen is fantastic, and last time I checked the raging on bestbuy for screen was something like 4.8/5
So, maybe the screen isn't perfect, but it seems to be quite liked, and I for one am excited for it. -

When it gets a refresh with Haswell it will be much better. If anybody even wants to pay that price for it.
Maybe it's just my 20/20 vision. Could be why everyone can't notice it very well. -
I'm very picky about my machines and especially my screens, and I have a very high set of requirements to meet... quad core i7, discrete graphics 630m equiv or above, 1080p touch screen, as light as possible and the longer battery life the better but minimum of 5 hrs real world use. Here's the thing, outside of the Chronos there isn't another laptop made that meets my criteria. lol. Although it exceeds in almost every specification. I also got the bonus of running 2 external monitors plus the laptop screen which gives me alot of room to work.
-
It's a fantastic laptop, but it is overpriced and runs Mac, something many people do not want.
If only we could have laptops that are as good quality as macs, or even the chrome book pixel, but for windows -

My main gripe with it is the truly DREADFUL Mac OS. I made a long post about this a while ago so I won't give my rant about it here, but I truly hate it. It's my first Mac ever and I regret switching from Windows. I can't wait to sell this and get back to Windows with the 8870m Chronos.
Also, the battery life is not THAT great. On low brightness, it's hard to see the estimated time remaining climb past 7 hours.
I also think the design is really boring. Thought I would like it...don't.
It also has a ton of annoyances. Like the fact that this thing gets HOT when running dedicated. The aluminum is so bad at dissipating heat, and it's unbearable to have on your lap. And you may be thinking I'm talking about when gaming, but I'm not (I would never game on my lap). For some god unknown reason, the dedicated GPU kicks in EVERY time I launch the internet. Meaning, it will be burning my legs even if I'm just browsing Facebook. Very annoying. -
