Samsung used the same panel for both 770 and 780. The only difference is the glass for touchscreen but the panel under the glass is matte and that's why is grainy. I had same issue with my Dell XPS 20, it had glass on the front and matte panel underneath. Matte panel is always grainy.

Any video or any willing to make a video on how to change the drive for an SSD?

Review Samsung Series 7 Chronos 770Z7E-S01DE 17"
Review Samsung Series 7 Chronos 770Z7E Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews -
Yep, it's a crappy screen. Worse I have seen on any laptop.
-
That picture isn't really that helpful, as we can't tell what's noise from the camera and what's the screen itself.
-
Most people say the opposite

Tomorrow I try to hear Samsung Italy on Facebook to see if they have anticipated the release date.. -
Good news but still no Touch screen (except for UK)
-
Unfortunately 80% of the grain comes from the screen and 20% from the camera.
-
I posted a download mirror for the Crysis multiplayer but I see you've managed now anyhow!
Looking forward to some YouTube videos perhaps of how it holds up? Hint hint
I'm hoping to play Far Cry 3 on this baby on at least 1080p medium settings with 25fps minimum. I will be disappointed otherwise. I think the Crysis 2 performance will give me a good indication of the likelihood of this. -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8870M.86798.0.html
According to this it can play far cry 3 on high at around 26fps -
I don't think it's that bad, that picture definitely makes it look a lot worse than it is - as I've said, it's on every device (especially touch screen), if you look - typing this on my iPad right now, and there's the same effect on this screen too - never hear anyone moaning about it to Apple though! Just imagine if we were still using CRT screens!
On a side note, been having major wifi issues on 5g - really bad connection or nothing at all - removed the Pro-set wifi software and bingo, its working perfectly again. Seems to be some of the drivers/software on this machine cause a few issues at this early stage - but easy to fix! -
did you finish all the windows updates? more than one person here has had wifi problems, but when updates were done it was okay.
guild wars 2 (the one game i want to play on my laptop) really works this laptop hard... -
First you have to open the game, making sure it is set in high performance, in order to make it use the 8870. Then you have to run HWInfo in log mode and start to play (if you don't open the game before starting hwinfo it will monitor HD4000 instead of 8770). The log will be a cvs file in which we can see if there is any throttling. You might also notice throttling as a noticeable drop in fps during gaming.

I looked at machines again today at best buy. Im tending to agree with folks that think its the touchscreen and not the panel itself... looking at alot of notebooks and all in ones... the Microsoft surface seems to have the cleanest colors, probably because there is less space between the glass and the screen. The asus models are better than the chronos on this and the HP envy all in ones are worse than the Chronos.
Also, the colors are deeper on the Chronos across the board. Putting it next to the $900 asus with 1080p screen with the same theme and it doesn't even look like the same colors are being used. I wonder which is closer to correct. -
Kind of weird he goes for a MacBook after saying he dislikes Apple and "So... Apple you can suck a "...
-
The screen looked good in all the review i saw....hp and sony fanboy propaganda
-
Not sure how it's Hp and Sony fanboy propaganda as be said that the hp's screen is worse than the chronos' and didn't even mention sony's.
-
Haha that's it? Yeah idgaf about that.
-
I'm finally home for spring break and can finally go to a Best Buy to check this out for myself. I want to put this "graniness" nonsense to bed.
-
That looks like what happens when there's dirt on my iPhone screen. Like oil from sweat or whatever.
-
These people are also looking at it from super up close. Like Alchemist said, it really isn't a big deal and I believe him.
-
No I mean isn't it possible that these people are just looking at dirty screens?
-
Most are blind. I owned it and do photography myself. Owned many laptops and it had the worse I have seen.
-
Wow, that's bad! -
I've not officially spent far too much time with my face 2-3 inches from screens at computer stores, lol. Almost every screen I looked at had some type of grain to it... sometimes its just the dot pattern on a matte display, other times it might be related to the touch screen (likely magnifying an existing pattern), etc. of everything I looked at the microsoft surface was the best, almost no texture... then came the lenovo yoga. and then high end asus models... besides those its hit and miss. As an interesting side note, most of the win8 tablets didn't have texture or had much less of it... perhaps because more attention / design is paid to form factor on tablets.
In the case of the Chronos, I really don't think it hurts the display. It has crisp display of text and graphics, great viewing angles, deep blacks and colors and excellent contrast. Its among the best displays ive used on a notebook. -
You are really, truly out of your mind if you actually think this beautiful Samsung 1080p screen is the worst laptop screen you've ever seen. I mean, really? Think about what you're saying. My friend's 2012 Asus has this HORRID, washed out, low contrast, low res screen that makes my eyes physically hurt to look at.
You can't possibly say that this beautiful laptop has the worst laptop screen you've ever seen without feeling like you've overexaggerated a ton. -
Am I the only one who isn't seeing anything wrong with that picture?
-
You have to look at it closely. And even a few feet away it's still bad. Nobody sits far away from a computer so it's definitely noticeable.
-
Well you're that guy who had ridiculously high expectations for this laptop before it came out so you couldn't possibly be completely impressed.
-
Has nothing to do with it. When you spend $1200 you want it to be perfect. Too bad that can never happen. Just look for yourself if you don't believe anybody.
And coming from a Retina screen you'll definitely notice it. -
Haha $1200 isn't that much for a laptop. Just so you know, I am currently typing this on a Macbook Pro Retina. This computer was $2200 and it's still far from perfect, but far from bad.
And yes, I will look for myself tomorrow.\ -
you have the old version with the 1600x900 display, talk when you have the one we saw at ces till then......................................
-
If I'm not mistaken, he did get the CES model.
-
Only because it has HD 4000 graphics. If anyone has the money to pay when Haswell comes out. That won't be a problem.
-
Wait what are you talking about with the HD 4000?
Oh, and your high expectations definitely have a lot to do with it. Notice how all of the early adopters of the 8770m model from Best Buy didn't even notice the "graininess" at all until you said something? So, yeah, it does have something to do with it. With your ridiculously high expectations from this machine, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment because you'll be nitpicking every little thing instead of stopping and asking yourself, "Am I really having an abysmal experience everytime I use this laptop?" -
This is turning into a personal argument, let's get the discussion back to the laptop
Screen quality wise, from what I can tell(through people's responses) the screen is great for a 1080p touch screen, but obviously 1080p is pretty bad compared to a retina screen.
Every review that I have read of this computer has stated that the screen is fantastic, and last time I checked the raging on bestbuy for screen was something like 4.8/5
So, maybe the screen isn't perfect, but it seems to be quite liked, and I for one am excited for it. -
Not a personal argument, just trying to set the record straight about this screen doubt and all the people overreacting and saying the screen is "the worst they've ever seen on a laptop"
-
Hell yeah man, same!!
-
The reason why the MacBook Retina isn't that great is because the GPU sucks in it.
When it gets a refresh with Haswell it will be much better. If anybody even wants to pay that price for it.
Maybe it's just my 20/20 vision. Could be why everyone can't notice it very well. -
I'm very picky about my machines and especially my screens, and I have a very high set of requirements to meet... quad core i7, discrete graphics 630m equiv or above, 1080p touch screen, as light as possible and the longer battery life the better but minimum of 5 hrs real world use. Here's the thing, outside of the Chronos there isn't another laptop made that meets my criteria. lol. Although it exceeds in almost every specification. I also got the bonus of running 2 external monitors plus the laptop screen which gives me alot of room to work.
-
The retina has a GT650M
It's a fantastic laptop, but it is overpriced and runs Mac, something many people do not want.
If only we could have laptops that are as good quality as macs, or even the chrome book pixel, but for windows -
That's one of the main reasons Google built that Pixel. They weren't aiming to sell any. They were trying to prove a point and encourage people to build quality screens at a cheap price.
-
Yea, the whole point of the pixel is that screen. They really need to get past this 1080p cap on notebooks in the windows world.
-
The GPU is far from AWFUL, but definitely could be better...but that isn't my main gripe with it.
My main gripe with it is the truly DREADFUL Mac OS. I made a long post about this a while ago so I won't give my rant about it here, but I truly hate it. It's my first Mac ever and I regret switching from Windows. I can't wait to sell this and get back to Windows with the 8870m Chronos.
Also, the battery life is not THAT great. On low brightness, it's hard to see the estimated time remaining climb past 7 hours.
I also think the design is really boring. Thought I would like it...don't.
It also has a ton of annoyances. Like the fact that this thing gets HOT when running dedicated. The aluminum is so bad at dissipating heat, and it's unbearable to have on your lap. And you may be thinking I'm talking about when gaming, but I'm not (I would never game on my lap). For some god unknown reason, the dedicated GPU kicks in EVERY time I launch the internet. Meaning, it will be burning my legs even if I'm just browsing Facebook. Very annoying. -
I used to have a unibody macbook pro, the thing that turned out being a show stopper for me was the keyboard. I just couldn't get used to the whole delete operates like backspace and there isn't a separate backspace key thing and a few other keyboard oddities compared to windows.
-
Wrong. The UX51VZ at $1500 looks gorgeous. Actually, much better than what I expected.
-
following the thread and to my knowledge only damouk has it(could be wrong) , hey nizmoz post some pic (properties my computer) and the box.....i mean $1000+ laptop and they cant put in a good screen? not sure samsung is that foolish
