Found out, it should be Monclick:

1270 euro for the non touch version sounds good. They declare 9 pieces on March 11th (tomorrow)

Push it down, so that you're levering the joint open.

Forgot to say, when you go into bios and set Secure Boot to Disabled, you also have to set Fast boot to Disabled and reboot, then go into BIOS again and pick the recovery media to boot from in the boot menu tab. If the device doesn't appear and you have inserted it you might have to reboot and go into bios a again and re-do it.

Once done and installed, go and set these settings back to enabled.

    3D Mark 2011 score on 8870M 780Z5E model:

Score P3296 with Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile(1x) and Intel Core i7-3635QM
    Graphics Score 2996
    Physics Score 6782
    Combined Score 3240

Bizarrely it still says Intel HD Graphics. I will redo this tomorrow with the drivers update to the AMD Beta ones.

    Thanks.

It will always show HD 4000 video, because the HD4000 just uses the ATI card when its set to high performance or when its needs extra processing power.

Any chance you could run the new 3dmark before you update your drivers?

It's perfectly normal that 3Dmark says HD4000, because 8870m uses HD4000 buffer as output, so nothing of strange.

It seems that price it's dropping rapidly, but if Amazon.it price will be 1299€ I prefer to buy from it. Before to buy one I would like to know price of 780Z5E and if exist a 16GB version and its price, but especially something more about throttling.

Why are people afraid that there won't be an ssd option? You'll end up with a better ssd when you do the upgrade yourself and you will have spent less money. It is not impossible to do and I'll try to put up a video or at least pictures of exchanging the hdd if I have the money for an ssd and my np770Z5E arrives in time. If I don't have the money for the ssd I'll just make an hdd removal video/picture gallery.
It should be helpful enough for replacing the hdd with an ssd.

What's the best program to check gpu throttling? I have more than enough demanding pc games I can use to test gpu throttling (far cry 3, crysis 2, bf3, skyrim, need for speed the run & most wanted, metro 2033 perhaps,...) but I have no idea how to check for gpu throttling (either thermal or because of psu). Now I just need some advice from you guys and the laptop itself :(.

The waiting is killing me!!!

And why is no-one using multi-quote? No wonder this thread has almost 300 pages.

Damouk, the PCWorld/Currys version for £49 is the Windows 8 Upgrade version (i.e. from a previous version of Windows - XP, 7 etc). The £99 version at MS is the Windows 8 Pro pack - "To install Windows 8 Pro Pack, customers must be running Windows 8."

Are you saying the £49 Upgrade version will work from Windows 8?

This thread has become so long mainly because people do not read the previous pages.

As I have already written many times:

I suggest to perform the same test that usually performed by Notebookcheck.

Prime95+FurMark for at least 5 minutes but would be better for 10 minutes, if you see that temps are too high after 5 minutes you can stop stress test.
You must be sure that FurMark runs on GPU so you have to set it in Control Panel of Catalyst.
Before to start the test you should set HWinfo64 in log mode, in this way it creates a CSV file that you can post in this thread, so we can see the result of your test, if you are not able to upload here you can use http://www.multiupload.nl/ and post the link here.
To be sure that HWinfo64 logs the 8870m you have to run some software that use 8870m before to launch HWinfo64.

    Links for software:
    Prime95: http://mersenneforum.org/gimps/p95v279.win64.zip

FurMark: FurMark 1.10.4 Released - 3D Tech News and Pixel Hacking - Geeks3D.com

    HWinfo64: HWiNFO64 Download

As alternative to Prime95+FurMark you can run some most demanding games at least for 20 minutes, Crysis2 should be enough, but test with others games will be appreciated.
Obviously what I have written for HWinfo is still valid for games.

Thank you, this will help a lot. I know you posted about furmark and prime95 a lot but although those programs can be very helpful, they can cause some unrealistic temperatures. Furmark is notourious for having burnt some stock clocked gpu's in desktops, not sure if it's true though. I would like to test some real life scenarios, like playing crysis 2 or far cry 3 for at least one hour on the highest settings possible without going under 30 fps. I didn't know that hwinfo is useful for that too because previously it didn't seem to detect the 8770m of a user.

nope, no updates that's really not the issue. I have word, acrobat and a couple of other minor programs running, could not even type at that point and task manager showed 100% disk usage. Does not seem right at all. Tech support not available sunday night but really annoyed by this.

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know whether an SSD like the Crucial m4 would be able to fit in the Chronos with its 9mm height?
I recall a while ago someone said that you might be able to fit a 9mm height SSD into the Chronos since there was still space left in the tray after installing an 840 Pro, but was just wondering if there was confirmation?
Can't wait for the 1TB SSDs from Crucial to come out!!!

Seriously mine did that for a while the first day or so... just chalked it up to windows updates... Looking at task manager processes sorted by disk usage and it was a window system task that seemed be thrashing the drive. When I swapped the drive for an SSD the same thing happened, except the ssd never got past about 5% utilized.

Notebookcheck performs stress test (prime95+Furmark) on every notebook that they review.
They run this test for very long time more than an hour, instead I'm speaking of 5 or 10 minutes.
Until now I have never seen any notice of notebook death in their reviews and I'm observing their reviews at least from 2 years.
Maybe in past years some GPU with bad design has had some problem, but we even know that in the past years Nvidia has made many faulty Notebook GPUs, also some year ago throttling did not exist and throttling is a protection system.
Also Notebook can go in thermal shutdown to protect itself, some user of XPS15 L521x can understand what I mean, but before thermal shutdown there is throttling that avoid any damage to GPU.

Obviously you are free to do what you want, I don't suggest to anyone to do anything that is not able to handle.

About HWinfo it seems that you don't read so well this thread, because I have already HWinfo result of 8770m in my hand, and if some user is not capable to use properly HWinfo, it's not a fault of the program.

As someone has posted some page ago, Notebookcheck is already waiting the 770Z5E in their lab, so we will have anyway the result of stress test.

Somebody mentioned that both 7mm and 9mm drives should work. Although both the ssd I put in and the 1tb drive that were there were both 7mm I believe.

I'm just waiting for the 8870M version to launch in the USA. I think I'm going to ask Best Buy next weekend when I give them a visit.

Also, will the new Series 7 Chronos ever be available on the Samsung website? Or only at Best Buy?

Samsung doesn't sell any thing directly, do they?
But I'm assuming that it'll show up on their site any day now. Maybe tomorrow? Every Monday seems to bring a pleasant update

I'm getting my 8870m version on Wednesday. I am waiting for the 8870m version, but I figured I'd try it out. Kinda like as a beta to the 8870m 16gb version

    Wherever I can
I live in Canada but am in Fl for 2 weeks , and my laptop's broken so I decided to try out the 8770m version for 2 weeks.
My hope is that by the time I get back the 8870m version is available, or, even better, that the 8870m version comes out while I'm here so that I can just order it here
And they don't sell them directly. All that site does is give links to where you can buy them. And, currently, the new chronoss are not there!

the 15 inch model that came out at BB has a dim backlit kb on its grey keys... maybe with black keys the backlit kb could stand out more.

I can tell you right now that you will find it hard on any computer to see the backlight when there's any sort of light in the environment. I can't see my MBPr's backlit keyboard unless it's dark.

The keys are easier to see in low light than normal light, I actually find it hard to see the letters on the keys in daylight, the silver of the keys and the "cut-out"/printing for the letters are not so different until the backlight shines through. It's ok once you get used to it, but the layout is a bit different to my previous laptops, so had to get used to it.

OMG just said something negative about this laptop.

Please man, try not to be so aggressive... He's just trying to help us, and if we can give him more informations about how to help us better we should be happy to give them (yes, even many times. Otherwise, you can fly to UK and buy one to test it yourself) . If I were him, and if I received such an answer, I 'd keep playing with my laptop and let you wait 2-3 weeks for notebookcheck' s review instead of giving you results in a couple of days.

This is a very useful post (obviously I'm ironic) and this answer will have the same value, so thank to you to adding others 2 useless posts at this thread.
If I were rude, I'm fairly sure that everyone will notice it, but instead I'm very boring to see questions already answered many times in this thread, it seems the people are not capable to read even the previous page.
I'm not a child that could be die if he has not his game, so I can wait all the time that I need, also I never buy one of these notebooks until a serious review is out.

Most people posting here seem to be gamers. I'm not, so I don't particularly care about the graphics card. What I am concerned about is the hard drive. I'd rather not dish out more money after spending $1.2k, to upgrade the HDD. How bad is the stock one? Is it significantly slowing down the machine of is it just getting in the way of I/O intensive games? I plan on using it for software development. Thanks.

It's the single best upgrade you can do to make your laptop faster. forget cpu or ram etc... HDD to SDD makes the pc run uber fast. Quicker startup, instant opening of browser and applications, and your compile times will probably be 3 times quicker. do it!

Care to explain?? It's supposed to sell for $600 - about $100 more than the 512GB Samsung 840 Pro, and while I'm still contemplating about spending that much money on a hard drive, I work with music software so I need it to keep all my sound samples and libraries. While I'll probably be content with the stock HD, an SSD means I'll spend less time waiting for sounds and sets to load and install and just general performance of the programs. So it may be useless to you, but not to me.

I guess you kinda misunderstood me. I just wanted to know how to do a stress test that is closer to reality the best way possible. Furmark generates more heat than any game. I thougt that playing a very demanding game for a few hours would be the hardest the cooling system can be pushed in real-life usage. If a pc overheats running furmark it won't necessarily do so while playing games.

I've read every single post since day 1 of this thread. If you don't want to tell me how to do these tests the best possible way or find me incompetent then just ignore my posts, no need to write like that.

Fnac France seems to ignore my e-mails, can't sort the problem out or just didn't recieve my validation documents. The problem with my payment is still there. I am getting no answer from them. Has anyone had the same problem with that site? I know there is one other guy who ordered from there and had this problem but he hasn't posted anyting anymore. The np770Z5E should already be on its way to me. :(

Not ordered, just called FNAC support because the form (availability & product details) was very "vague" and innacurate.
I am going to buy a TOUCH model (if they sell it in France one day ...).

I don't think they actually hold any stock. I think they order the stock when they receive an order from a customer.

Asked Netonnet again concerning availability, I tried my best to translate what they said:

Concerning delivery. Unfortunately we have some bad news to report on this model (NP7705ZE-SE02). It will be further delayed due to lack of panels (not sure what they mean, but I think its the displaypanel). As of now, it will not arrive to our main storage until week 16.

I need this laptop so bad that im thinking about going to london to pick one up and replacing the keyboard with a swedish one...

    Hey guys!
Guess im gonna jump in this conversation right now, finally!
Been reading this Thread since the beginning!
Im gonna go for the 770Z5E! So that means the Non Touch, 8870 Version!
I pre-ordered it via Amazon .de and they just emailed me that the delivery will be between the 15-19th of March!
Before that email, the estimated delivery was between the 30th of march and the 3th of April!
Guess this are some great news for us Europeans!
Of course i can provide you some tests/Benchmarks etc, when i get my machine, if still needed!

It's nice to see some French guy writing here ^^ (je suis un Strasbourgeois expatrié au Canada)

I've tried emailing an old friend of mine that owns a little computer shop (in France). They don't do online transactions, but if he has some details I'll tell you.
