I think that you have seen Video in which Samsung present the touch version for Italy.
Also you cannot find 7805ZE even in Germany and France, but this don't mean that it will not come out in rest of Europe (in UK is already available).
Also Samsung is already selling in USA but without any info in their sites and even in UK you can buy one but another time there isn't any info on Samsung UK site.

The passmark for the i7-3635qm equipped chronos is much higher. All of my passmark tests got results in the low 8400s... like 8404, 8411, etc. This is in line with other similar processors... for some reason the score on passmark.com is artificially lower for some reason.

Got my new Chronos Series 7 NP780Z5E-T01UK delivered this morning and I have to say it's absolutely awesome. The build quality is fantastic and in every way it really does look and feel like a premium product. The touchscreen is great - responsive, vibrant and sharp. I haven't noticed the graininess some other people have mentioned.
Criticisms? The keys are a little spaced out and it's taking me a while to get used to them, but apart from that I love it. -
Dan, which supplier did you use in the UK?
-
Do you mean the promotional video?
Yes, I saw it..
I remain of the opinion that if a touchscreen version will be released, it will not be released before April in Italy.. -
This is one nice laptop.
Just turned it on, I'll give impressions in a few hours!
Now I can wait even less for 8870m version -
Until now no one has found dead pixel?
-
PC World. Mine has the HD8850M and i5, so it's a slightly lower spec than the one detailed in this thread but it's still awesome

SAMSUNG Series 7 Chronos NP780Z5E 15.6" Touchscreen Laptop - Silver Deals | Pcworld
In addition the battery has 54% remaining and it's saying it'll give me another 5 hours 3 mins which is very very impressive. (just updated the post because the predicted battery life actually went up lol) -
Ok, initial impressions:
Build: Great. It's sleek, and really just feels and looks amazing. I haven't closely examined it, but so far so good.
Keyboard: At first I didn't like it, but I think that I'm already pretty used to it. Very short travel, but still very good. If anything the short travel let's you type faster.
Mouse: Again, at first I didn't like it, but it's growing on me. It works as well as mac trackpads, but isn't as smooth, however I think that it'll get smoother over time, and seems to already be!
Speakers: Wow, fantastic. I remember when I got new high-end earphones a while(etymotic hf3s) I listened to the song DLZ by Tv On The Radio, and thought "Wait, there are bongos in this song". Well, you can definitely hear the bongos! It's very loud, and very good lows mids and highs
Screen: Great. And I haven't even disabled adaptive brightness yet(need to find it first). I do see the grain, but it doesn't matter. And it's only on whites.
Speed: The harddrive definitley is a bottleneck. I had to stop copying over movies, etc. from my old hard drive as it was slowing down the computer too much!
Let me know what else you want to know. I'll do more later. Where is the adaptive brightness setting? -
Damn. Hearing too much about these laptops. Need the 8870m version to release in the USA ASAP. I want to buy it the moment it is out!

Hey guys, some quick questions about this laptop:
-Can it come with an optical drive?
-Does it come in black?
-Is the 1080p screen matte or glossy?
-Does it have an mSata slot?
Thanks! -
1. Only the 17"
2. Nope
3. Both
4. Nope -
-Only the 17" model has an optical drive
-Nope, only silver
-The touch version is glossy while the non-touch version is matte
-No mSata slot as far as I know but I'd be happy to be proven wrong
Edit: whoops, ninja'd -
I've been copying over like 500gb of music, pictures and videos, so the computer isn't that usable currently, but wow these speakers are amazing.
I've been playing music on Rdio, and it's as if I'm playing it through a speaker like a jambox, almost as good as a Sonos play 3 IMO.
Not as loud, but just as clear -
I'm considering upgrading my laptop (2008 Sony Vaio Z) and I'd rather have dedicated graphics and a full mobile processor. I've narrowed my list to this Samsung, the Envy 15T-3200 (refurbished), and the Asus UX51. I saw this notebook at Best Buy and was generally impressed by it but I think the numpad is just too awkward on this size. I also don't like the 5400 rpm drive. I can get the Envy 15 for $900 and it includes a 3rd generation i7 with 8 gb ram and 256 gig SSD. In addition, the Asus is $1800 and it includes the SSD and geforce 650m. What do you guys think? I obviously like to keep my laptops for a while, since I upgrade my desktops more frequently. Thanks!
-
I think the samsung is the best bang for the buck here. The asus is pricy and its ssd's are proprietary which may cause problems down the line with upgrades. The Envy refurb might not be a bad deal but no touch screen and the GPU is likely not in the same league as the Samsung and asus. The 5400rpm drive is a weak point on the samsung, but it still boots in about 20 seconds which isn't bad at all and its fairly easy swap if you want to upgrade to an ssd at some point.

The 8870 has immature driver and are posting so great score , cant wait for the optimal drivers

Anybody experienced an intermittent screeching sound from the audio output (headphones or speakers) when audio is started? Its pretty annoying when it happens, but seems to be a software problem...
-
Two questions...
have all of the variants of this released so far had silver keys?
Has anyone had any problems with their wifi not working after airplane mode... I took my machine to work today, hooked to an access point through my phone ok then set the wifi off... it was saying 11+ hrs of battery remaining with wifi off and screen at 50% brightness btw. But when I got it home it just wouldn't see any wireless networks... had to go through troubleshooting a couple times and reset the card before it worked again. -
I think all of the Chronos have silver keys while the Ultra has a black keyboard.
-
The 17" chronic has black keys
I love this laptop so much. I haven't tested out the gpu at all yet, but it's just so great!
This is more of a general question than one specific to this laptop, but anyone know if there are any browsers other than ie10 that support multi touch?
I love chrome so much, but multitouch zoom via trackpad is much nicer on ie, and ie supports the touch screen very well -
I heard that Windows 8 is going to get a Service Pack soon, changing his name in Windows Blue and solving several bugs... Do you guys think it's possible that some of the issues experienced so far might be Windows' fault? For example problems with sleep, or with wifi after airplane mode...

Anythings possible. I've been using a lil vizio 14" ultrabook upgraded to windows 8 pro for a couple months and its been flawless though. The samsung has been pretty great as well, except for wifi glitches before windows patches and the loss of wifi I encountered today. Samsung has been plagued with wifi issues in their thin-n-lights. I had a series 9 11.6" that had great wifi as long as you were within 3 ft. of the router... beyond that it was useless, so had to return it. The chronos is nothing like that, its wifi has been great except for that one gotcha today. I was just curious if anyone else had encountered that hickup.
-
I'll test it tmrw and let you know
My wifi was working really poorly, but then I updated the drivers and now it's great. Went from getting 10Mbps to 30 -
Thank you! Can you try the following test please?
Run a speed test on speedtest.net right next to the router as a basis for comparison? Then, hold the laptop on your hands and walk away from the router, running other speedtests every few meters, and keep going until you reach the farthest point of your house (even on different floors).
Then, if possible post here the results please, so we can see if there are strange drops in download/upload speed.
Thank you in advance

Hey guys!
Just got my 770Z5E!
After unpacking I have to say! Damn awesome!
For those who are afraid of Bottom Plastic, I cant even tell if its plastic, if i wouldnt know it!
It looks like aluminium, feels like it and u can see no difference between the top, except that top is brushed!
Overall the whole machine is manufactured without any defects, bugs except in my opinion, the trackpad could be inserted more properly!
But its far from bad! Like the Trackpads in the Asus UX32/UX51! But thats the only point i have to mention!
Besides this building quality is beyong perfect! No Dead Pixels! -
Please do

I tried this - not technically as asked, I used InSSIDer to track the performance as I moved round my house. Now obviously houses in the UK tend to be smaller than in the US/Europe (we're only a little island!), but 5g Wifi degraded to about 50% of it's original strength around the house, at no point did I get any drop outs. Similarly, 2.4g wifi didn't have any drop-outs, and also stayed slightly better than 50%. I would say I was about 15-18 metres from the Router at furthest point, with a couple of (brick) walls between, but all doors open. Running a speedtest.net at both ends, there was only minimal difference.
However, I still seem to experience occasional issues with the drivers causing a total connection loss using 5g wireless (I use a dual band router!) and only a reboot or change to 2.4g and then back again seems to fix the problem (believe it or not, a reboot is quicker!!), it's a bit intermittent and I haven't figured out what the trigger is that makes the connection fail yet - 2.4g works fine, so far (it's just slower!). -
On mine, the trackpad has a kind of shiny aluminium bevel round it (it's not a separate bevel, it's where the aluminium has been machined at an angle for the cutout hole), this acts as a kind of divide between the brushed aluminium and the actual trackpad component. Personally, I really like the effect, the trackpad doesn't feel like it's not inserted properly, it's just not flush with the aluminium.
-
I have had similar issues with an Macbook Air paired with a Timecapsule 5Ghz wifi router. I found out that the issue was related to the firmware in the time capsule had some kind of a glitch. With a downgrade of firmware it fixed all my problems. Except sometimes I have to the following to avoid it: Start with logging on to 5ghz, then wait half a min, log on to the 2.4ghz, half a min, and back to 5ghz, then no issues at all for days. But as soon as I used the computer on another network and then back again. Had to do the same routine.
-
The only thing to mention about the touchpad is, that its just botten right part of the pad (the right click button) is a bit more deep in the laptop, while the left side is even with the aluminium top. But I am really fussy^^
Im more kinda annoyed of Windows 8 ^^
But i will get into it(Windows 8) and im sure i will love it!
Btw i also tested the Silent Mode. As others already said, the Laptop is very very silent. But if u are just surfing etc., u notice no difference between the silent mode and the normal mode. In both modes, the Laptop is very silent, but the fans never completely turn off! Im really annoyed by loud fans, but this is definitely acceptable and quiet! If u dont put ur head on the keyboard u won´t notice any sound! -
The price drop continues today, I have found 770Z5E for 1167...
-
Thank you for the test!

Guess whose payment finally got validated!
I'm wondering whether I should cancel my order considering the price drops though. Amazon.fr now has it listed for 70 less than where I ordered. But amazon does not have it in stock. How long do you think it will take for amazon.fr to get it in stock??
Nice, where? -
Italy, but it seems already not more available.
In Italy seems there is a big request for this notebook, but fortunately it's available in many store from Yesterday. -
Do you have a date for the delivery ?
-
Did any of you try if 8770 or 8870 work on Linux?
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
Mine arrived 30 minutes ago, 770Z5E.
Guess what, dead Pixel so it's going back. A crappy little red dot around the center of the screen -.-
Amazon sent me an used one, screen was dirty !! Amplified by grain it really looks disturbing, like a 3D pixel :/
There was some minor screen bleed but I fixed it with some pressure.
Viewing angles are perfect, same as my Eizo IPS monitor - but the coating is VERY grainy.
You can hear the fan but it's very silent and not disturbing. In public places it should appear like it's passive. -
nope

My 17.3" with 8870 should be here in about an hour. The 840 pro was also ordered..cant wait!
Will run it a few days with the normal drive to see how that is and also to make a recovery backup.
Im curious about the bluray drive. Some places say mine comes with one and some say it doesnt. A bluray drive wouldnt be bad....

So it seems that there is any pro for non touch screen version about the screen except that is not glossy.

Ok, some more impressions:
The keyboard is fantastic. It took a few hours to get used to, but really, it's great. Just enough travel, I would say that it is easily on par with a MacBook keyboard.
Screen is great, really. Yea, there's some grain on whites and light colours, but unless you let it bother you, you just forget about it.
As well, I'm finding the touchscreen really useful. Not so much in desktop mode, but in metro. Yesterday I wanted to check the weather, but instead of going to weather.com or the likes, I pushed the windows button and just tapped on the weather app. I could then look at the weather, manipulating it via touch, just as well as I would on an iPhone. I think that once more companies release touch-friendly versions of their programs, it'll be even better. I just really want that chrome mutlitouch support! I'm forced to use ie right now.
Battery seems to be great. I was using it last night for about an hour, and it went down to 67%(from 80%). I was browsing sites, installing some things, playing music, etc. It estimated 6 hrs 45 minutes. Pretty fantastic. It also charges quickly, although all laptops may do that today.
I turned off power saver, and am going to charge the laptop to 100%, and then see how long it can last in real-world use. -
Any experience of the battery saver (80% charge setting)? I notice it can be turned on in BIOS or in the Chronos Settings Windows software. Are these essentially the same thing, or is one better than the other?
EDIT: Forgot to add, I agree with you on the keyboard. I come from a Sony VAIO with similar Island/Chiclet style keys, also with low travel, but the Chronos is much nicer. On my VAIO I also kept catching the trackpad with the palm of my hand, due to its location in relation to the keyboard (immediately below & centred to the letter layout). The Chronos has it just offset to the right of the letter layout and I totally avoid it with my hands when typing, it may seem trivial, but this is a MASSIVE bonus for me. I've lost count of the times I'd caught my old one with my palm and started typing in a random location! -

They are the same. The Settings program changes the setting in the CMOS data and is usually more convenient to use than the BIOS setup.
Given the large battery capacity then enabling the Battery Life Extender should keep the battery healthy for longer by avoiding the top-up charging to 100% unless you really need the full charge for maximum run time away from a power socket.
