If you want to disable the 80% limit of power charging, you can do it by BIOS

You Can also do it in the settings menu, like the function-f1 one

Somebody posted a few thousand pages back that he had 2560x1440 working at 30hz on a Dell U2713 on HDMI, no hacks required. He said he was going to try connecting via a dual-link DVI adapter to see if that would bump the refresh but I don't think he has posted since then.

I just notice that the 17" has a mini DisplayPort. Might have to get one of those instead of the 15".

When I first read about this laptop, when it first came about on CES I was really excited but thought, naa it's too good and its going to be really expensive, Now that it's out, I think this is the one.
Everyone here has amazing things to say apart from a few with bad and weird experiences. That is considering the drivers for the graphics card isnt even out yet and therefore the machine is not even at its full potential.

I work online so I need a half decent laptop. Plus I travel a a lot so I need something that is a desktop replacement in order to play games and do work 9-5. It is more than what I need. currently I have an amazing Dell, which goes crazy when I have 3 tabs open on Chrome.

I am currently in China, next month back in the UK, I want this laptop. I have a PC back home that is a beast but within the past year since i've built it I've only used it for 2-3 months. Plus I will be going travelling again soon after. This laptop offers a lot personally.

Gonna wonder around the Samsung shops here to see if they have it and for how much.

I believe it is out of stock in Currys/PCW. and the other European versions have different keyboard layouts.
Can anyone tell me, if i see the Chronos tomorrow, get girly excited and buy it, would i be able to change the windows and all the crap in it to English? I know that laptops purchased in China have a lot of bloatware, social networking apps, etc which are difficult to uninstall as it is all in Chinese.
I have no experience with win8. Will that make things more difficult?
I know the series 7 Ultra is out here, anyone interested in that?

    Thanks people!

So I need to buy a laptop within the next 2 weeks or so. What is the best guesstimate as to when the new Series 7 will come out? (I'm in the US)

    Thanks.

I've do a fresh win8 install on my ssd, reinstalled all drivers and last bios (1.0.0.3 v. P03ABU) with Samsung sw upgrade (with forcing hd4000 unistallation driver to fix the suspend-bug), set all graphics to high and set the 8870m to run with Farcry 3, it run smooth at 1920x1080, all settings to high (personalized profile) and no AA. At 1680x1050 I set AA to 2x and it run also smooth.
I'm really impressed, and I see a gap that Samsung will improve this machine !!!

I have just seen the picture of 770Z5E with broken bottom (broken during the travel), so it's sure that bottom is not made in aluminum, because the damage consists in cracks on the bottom.

They should have bought a hard case/sleeve. I have no idea why there is such a bombardment of flimsy sleeves for laptops, they're just gonna protect it from scratches. I'll be buying a hard case like one my gf has from Targus so hopefully won't have such issues. Something similar to this

Vyper XS3 Laptop Sleeve Is A Laptop Armor | Hardware Sphere

Really happy about the Far Cry 3 results on 1080p! Getting paid next week, just hope it's in stock. I've booked a half day especially to go buy it somewhere lol.

I'm moving to Australia in 4 weeks and hope its back in stock in the UK before I leave. They don't seem to even have the old series 7 chronos out there right now so will be gutted if I miss it before I leave an can't get it. This machine is exactly what I want/need. Should be fine tho fingers crossed!

Great news! Could you please let us know roughly what sort of framerates you're getting at 1080p highsettings? I'm hoping record gameplay at 1080p so would be good to know if there are frames to spare or not.

    Thanks in advance

Ps. Also, how hot does it get?? I had a laptop 10 years back that would get so hot while gaming that it turned one corner of the silver laptop permanently black and obviously you couldn't touch it either. I know it would never get this hot but is it comfortably warm after 30 minutes + or quite hot??

Nope, the notebook is broken during shipment to the buyer, the package has not protected from damage, but no problem obviously it will replaced for free.

Yeah I know. They also have a softer version, not exactly AS hard but tougher than the neoprene ones. The 15" ones should fit this computer.

And the lowest score is for the Intel GPU, so in reality, with switchable graphics, it's much higher - around 7.8-8.0 somewhere

My 780Z5E-S01UK arrived today and i'm impressed by the build quality. The screen looks fantastic. I'm in Ireland and I think I got one of the few Curries had in stock over here.
This thread is a total monster and I'm finding no good way to search for the SSD swap guide. I plan to just cleanly install Win 8 pro on a samsung 840, but wanted to image the existing disk as a backup. What did you guys use to get an image of the disk? Included software, or something like Achronis?

Nope... the gpu scores on the chronos are 6.7 desktop graphics, 6.7 gaming graphics. Hd4000 chips don't get close to that, usually 5.8/6.2 or therebouts as it will vary based on the CPU the hd4000 is part of.

The 6.7 is definitely figuring the ATI card.

So i just recently purchased the best buy 8770 model as my current laptop is a 6 year old dell and i couldnt wait any longer. Build quality seems great, and as others have said the HDD is definitely the only thing slowing this laptop down (i have an 840 on the way) What i am curious about is i am seeing what reminds me of burn in from old plasma TVs. My background and windows that stay open for moderate to long lengths of time will continue to show through on the screen when it switches to a dark background such at the touchscreen app interface. Im assuming i have a defective model as i have never seen a screen aside from old plasmas do this before. Does anyone have any ideas?

Edit: i should mention that the "burn-in" does go away after a little while. but its enough that i am worried and do not think this should be happening

    This happened to me.
I was playing tomb raider, paused it and left for like an hour. When I came back "Tomb Raider" was burned it, yet it went away after 5 minutes

I read about someone having this problem on an asus tablet the other day... I don't think its 'burn in' or anything like that... I think its software. The Metro interface likely displays its interface into the same frame buffer used by the desktop... and for some reason its becoming partially transparent, showing the desktop underneath.

    It was definitely burn in.
It was the tomb raider logo. It was over everything, but was quite opaque.

Id be willing to believe that if not for the fact that the windows had been closed and it persisted after a reboot of the system. For instance i downloaded start8 to make the home screen a little more user friendly and the page from which it was downloaded shown through after a reboot on the metro interface.

I also seem to remember it becoming more noticeable after disabling adaptive brightness

Anything persisting after a reboot isn't what I had read about, thats more likely hardware related.

Okay I seem to have a problem with my wireless connection. Seems to take a long time to connect at startup and sometimes does not connect (shows limited connection). Same happens when computer goes to sleep. I have to disconnect and reconnect. Sometimes I have to restart. This seems to be a recent problem and was not there before. Other computers in the house are fine. I have the best buy 8770 version. Any suggestions?

I have the stock HD for a month now and still have 20 second startup

Tech noob here but I have to assume its something that's running at startup that could be disabled

Not anything from startup. I've done a full reinstall, and then many restarts but to no avail.
I then removed all of the bloatware, still did nothing.
Pretty sure it's a defective hard drive, but I'm giving it back in a few days and waiting for the 8870m version so I just haven't dealt with it. It's constantly at 100% HDD when I'm doing nothing, and the HDD is very loud at times.

That happened to me when the graphics driver update was installed. Its mentioned somewhere in this gigantic thread. I used system restore to go back to before graphics driver update was installed made sure that windows update was performed first and then installed driver update and problem went away. Someone in the thread mentioned that you had to make sure the windows updates installed before the driver update. Im sure there was an easier way to do it than using system restore though.

My first boot was 40 seconds, after that they were all right around 20 seconds until I swapped in the SSD then they went down to 8 seconds. If you are taking over a minute to boot windows 8 there is a problem.

It happens even when I do a full reinstall, like using Samsung's tool.
Pretty sure it's a faulty HDD, which is ok, as I'm returning it for the 8870m version

You did a complete reinstall? Did you go back into bios and re-enabled fast boot and secure boot? With them disabled your boots will be noticably slower.

    And after recovery
And after I removed all the bloatwear

The old chronos series got pulled off one of the stores in my country. Unfortunately I don't think we will even get the i7. The old series was priced at ~1200 Euro for the i5 model...

Thanks, I found the samsung software in the end, didn't spot it since i'm finding win 8 to be an unintuitive nightmare. Christ, it could be so awesome with the amazing touchscreen on the chronos. The trackpad feels so slow compared to the instant tactility of it. yet, learning win 8 is the bottleneck here. I can't believe we need to 'learn' how to properly use an OS in this day and age... i didn't need to 'learn' how to use my android phone, all the visual feedback is there. Visual feedback on what your gestures are doing is majorly missing from win8!!

Awesome laptop though. The graininess issue is pretty minor, and invisible on anything other than a pure white screen.
The laptop is surprisingly heavy though (in isolation, i'm not comparing it to any other machines), hopefully SSD swap will shave off a few grams.
can someone please link me or provide me the user name/post number of the person that posted comprehensive SSD swapout instructions?

I'm sure the answers must already exist in this monstrous thread, but I can't find them. Could anyone shed any light on:

    1. Fan noise - is it quiet?
    2. Screen. Is the matte version PLS or IPS or neither?
    3. Availability. I'm in Canada.
