I'm kinda sick of waiting for the 7970m version to come out, speak to retailers almost everyday and none of them seem to have any idea when it'll be coming. Two of them said Samsung isn't even sure it wants to release a version right no that is different to the G7A/C.

I spoke with Samsung and they said they have no idea when or even if it will ever be released with a 7970m

I need a laptop soon, it's either I keep waiting for the 7970m which may take too long to come or go with something like a Clevo instead which is having all kinds of other problems.

Alternatively I could go for a lower spec samsung with maye a 650/660m instead and just be content with having gone for an entirely different and lower category, but maybe higher build quality, sleeker etc.

    What do you guy recommend?

I was in the same situation as you are right now. It was either the Sager 9150 or this Samsung Gamer 7. As much as i wished that the Gamer 7 was released with the 7970m, the GTX675m is a solid performer. My windows start up is literally about 10 seconds thanks to the 8gb SSD onboard (forgot what its ACTUALLY called) The keyboard..very comfortable, and the "typing feel" is soft yet crisp (if that makes any sense). The screen...120hz, have you seen it in action? if not..then yes you will fall in love. i dont think ill ever go back to a 60hz..

My biggest hurdle i had to overcome was the size/weight of each laptop. I wanted something portable, and being a 17.3 inch laptop..its not the MOST portable. My friend has the Sager 8150, so i knew what i was looking at as far as how big and heavy the 9150 would be. Never seen a gamer 7 in life till i bought mine. Surprisingly, the laptop didnt exceed my expectations..it was actually thinner and less bulky than i imagined which was another plus. Dont get me wrong, the Sagers are nice laptops too. They are beasts in their category. The Sagers all about performance, while the Samsung has much more eye-candy while delivering high performance. 100% sure the 7970m will outperform the GTX675m. So if its pure performance you want to run with while having a more portable laptop, go with the sager 9150. xoticpc is now having a back-to-school special (16gb FREE upgrade). But note, if you were to put the same specs on a sager compared to the gamer 7, the sager would cost alotttt more.
Sager = GPU KILLER. BUTTTTT 120hz is where its at right now. loll no joke. you just have to see it. d3 in 60hz vs 120hz.huge difference. HUGE DIFFERENCE IN EVERYTHING. hope this helped.

oh and also, DO NOT GET ANYTHING LOWER SPEC'D. Just go with either the samsung gamer 7 or the sager 9150. you wont be disappointed.

Thanks, that's helpful. I am however a bit skeptical about your comment regarding Diablo 3 in 120hz...

I'm almost 100% sure that the 675m cant run diablo 3 at that resolution at anything above 30-40fps...so I can't imagine how you would notice a difference between 120hz and 60hz?

haha yeah i was skeptical at first too. i didnt want to face the fact that i might have just spent more money on a laptop than i should have and while the samsung is good enough (spec wise NOTHING to do with screen) i could have went with a sager with top of the line components. so i went over to my friends house the next week. we were playing 2k on the ps3 and couple of friends banging out on d3 (one on my laptop and one on the sagers) after 30-45 minutes of playing, i told them to switch laptops. BOTH of my friends noticed my laptop was much smoother. NOTE my friends sager has the 6990m which is marginally slower than the 675m. so in the end i firmly believe 120hz makes a difference. it could not have been the 675m doing all the work to make my gaming experience THAT much smoother/better quality. just fyi.

I like the screen but so far 120hz has been nothing but problems and I fail to see a difference other than for the worse. What I do see when I play a game or watch a tv or a movie is a grid type effect and intermittent around the pixel boxes thin black lines. 60hz it is smooth and have not found a setting to get the 120hz to act as smoothly.
