    Hi,
Can anyone offer any suggestions, other than the usual like clearing of unwanted files, etc., of how I can speed up an NC10 please?

It already has 2GB of RAM but is noticeably slower than it was when purchased. It only has basic software on it like MS Word, FF, IE8 and T-Bird. There are no resource heavy applications like Photoshop.

    I was considering any of the following;
    • A processor upgrade if that's possible (current - CPU N270 @ 1.6 GHz), but since it has an Atom in it, I'm assuming not?
    • More RAM but I'm under the impression that its' current 2GB (DDR PC2 6400) is as much as it will accept?
    • A larger, faster hard drive if necessary (current - 120GB WD1600BEVT [only 15GB in use]).
    • A Solid State Drive?

    Any advice appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    your ram is maxed out
    Atom is soldered into board.

only upgrade to speed up would be SSD..
you can get 32G for around $100 these days

If MS Office is in the start up group/launches with Windows, that will strangle resources, especially an Atom.

Use Task Manager to see what is using the resources. Add the column for CPU time on the processes page and you can see the cumulative CPU usage for each process.

If there are processes that you don't need that are using resources then you can run msconfig and disable them from starting.

I'm looking into them, thank you. I read somewhere that read speed is good but write speed is very slow. Do you know if this is correct?

    It isn't, but thank you.

The main resource hog is that which is used almost constantly, Firefox.
    Thank you
