I plug my satellite radio into my line-in (mic) jack and listen to it through the 2 (awesome) computer speakers.
After a minute or less of play I need to open volume control and move the volume lever up and down to get the sound to stay "on", and a minute later the sound cuts out.
Is there a mute button I'm missing? Or is it something else entirely?
    Thanks.

I wonder if this is a power management issue. Are you running the NC10 on battery or mains?

See if there are any power management options for the sound chip.
