You can look online and see if there is any in the stores. I doubt there will any though, also you can call the store to check.

I don't think it will, it is pretty normal temperatures under load to me. My 54 year old hp laptop used to go over 100 degrees C when under load, until I changed the thermal paste and it is still works fine.

CompUSA, if there's any in Houston. But they may not be sitting on the shelf. Ask for it to be sure.

The branded stock "Samsung" HDD is made by Seagate. Mine felt pretty fast too. But I still stuck a Seagate 7200 rpm on there with 750 GB. Still very quiet and absolutely no heat for my usage (music production).

My local store showed they were out of stock online.
When I went into the store they had two.

I would suggest physically physically going the store - the rep I spoke to couldn't tell the difference between the old 15.6 version and the 17 incher !!!

I too have this issue. Running Full Screen, then tabbing out to Desktop the brightness increases noticeably. When I tab back in to D3 it remains bright for about 3 seconds then drops down about 20%. I have Gamma set to full brightness. Don't see any settings in D3 that would cause it, can't seem to find a "game mode" (which typically reduces brightness) either..

    It's rather frustrating...

Also I installed the 750GB Momentus XT and did a clean install of 7 64bit Ultimate. I'm running latest drivers from Samsung's site and I can only manage 40fps (typically 28-34) on high settings in D3.

I didn't open mine, but my first had an disk with model number HN-M101MBB (samsung) in device manager, while this one has model number ST1000LM024 (seagate).

And the difference is quite noticeable in favor of the seagate.

Seagate has bought the HDD division of samsung so samsung HDD's will soon vanish, I guess seagate will still use the samsung factory to manufacture seagate HDD's though.

    "igfxext module stopped working"

Anyone getting this on startup? I've been using this laptop for 3 or so weeks, and all of sudden, I'm getting this on startup. Grrrr.... I googled it, but to no avail.

I tired uninstalling the Intel HD Driver and re installing the latest version, but no luck...

UPDATE 1* It appears to have triggered from a "critical" windows update I installed late last night.

UPDATE 2** System restore did not fix it. Grrrr.

Just installed the 301.42 from link on page 79 - fps is a solid 60 now. Still having issues with the gamma/screen dimming when tabbing back into D3.

Just noticed that a newer model is up for pre-order on amazon:
    Samsung Series 7 NP700Z7C-S03US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)
    Amazon.com: Samsung Series 7 NP700Z7C-S03US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Silver): Computers & Accessories

It seems the only difference is that the HDD is 750gb 7200 rpm. But there is no mention of the graphics card, ODD, or Expresscache. If any of these were better I'd be tempted to send mine back as I've still not opened the box. Then I'd also get the $15 Win8 upgrade...
If anyone finds out mores specs on this newer model, please post!

From looking at the price, it might going to be a more lower end model. But that is just a hunch.

Exactly, I am quite sure that it will have some low specs like maybe 640M instead of 650M etc. I googled it & find any articles, but they all have just same info.

Thank you JIMBO321 for the heads-up on the new Samsung with the 750GB 7200RPM hard drive! I was able to reach Amazon and cancel my NP700Z7C-S 01US (which was to be delivered tomorrow) and pre-ordered instead the NP700Z7C-S 03US.

Without the helpful people on this forum that wouldn't have happened so easily. I'm a happy camper.

I'm pissed off with this notebook still being near impossible to acquire in the EU for now. Amazon in my country has had it on pre-order for 2&1/2 months  and if I'm correct it's already >=6weeks since it's been released in the US... duh !

Arghhh! This is killing me. I have the laptop in the amazon box in my closet unopened. And now there's this mysterious new model! But if I open it, I can't return it without 15% restocking fee. The new model doesn't say if it has the same GPU! I could care less about the HDD, as I"ve got an SSD burning a hole through my hand waiting. And $50 is hardly worth the wait. But if it went down further... or if it had a reasonable cache like 32gb.... or the 660m... BOY WOULD I BE KICKING MYSELF!

Ok. Found out one thing: Amazon says that that price ($1349) is the retail price (before discount). The retail price of the S01US is $1499. So reasoning tells me that the above posts are correct, it will probably have a lesser (640m?) or even no discreate graphics. Samsung don't seem to be the type to drive down their own prices now do they!?

I just ordered this from Tiger Direct. Can anyone confirm is the model from TigerDirect as a Mic and a Headphone port, or has a combined port? If it's a combined port, I'll need to buy a adapter.

But I'm not sure if this is possible but im trying to connect this laptop to a monitor through an old HDMi to dvi cable that i had. I connect hdmi to laptop then dvi to monitor but it wont recognize the monitor. is it possible to go hdmi to dvi or is there a problem somewhere?

About the new NP700Z7C-S03US model: I cancelled my S01US immediately before delivery because I'd rather have the S03US with the faster 7200 RPM hard drive (assuming the other specs are comparable). Including ExpressCache I won't be tempted to replace the HD with an SSD until after the warranty is up so therefore I won't void it. I'm sure the newer model will be fast enough for me right out of the box and a year down the road I'll be happy to do the upgrade. Just my opinion.

It's weird, on TigerD's website the picture shows a seperate headphone/mic port, but on Samsung's it shows just 1. Anyway... I wonder if I should cancel and wait for the S03?

I just looked at the pictures at TigerDirect, it doesn't even have a picture of the mic/port, it is a single port but there is a on board mic. If you don't need a laptop right now, you should wait out and see what the S03 has to offer, otherwise buy it.

For those that have tried it, were you able to remove the slot-load DVD drive and replace with a hard drive? I had a Dell xps with slot-load DVD drive and it was a bit tricky.

I am selling my Clevo P150hm but am keeping the SSD from it. I would like to put the SSD in the main slot and use the stock HDD in the DVD drive bay.

    Thanks for your comments.

From searching I only found this post with no reply. Also, the video in the OP briefly mentions swapping with a HDD caddy, but Paul does not mention the size. I just wanted an opinion from others who may have done it.

EDIT. After one more search on my computer I found a thread confirming 9.5mm works perfect.

Would an owner kindly do me a favour? Battery life test:

    Screen at ~half brightness.
Optimus on integrated GPU (should default to this)
    WiFi on.
Background programs open (whatever, doesn't really matter)
Browser with a few tabs open.

    Remaining time?

    Many thanks in advance!

Anyone tried Envy 17"? I wonder how the screen compares to Samsung.

HP just released updated Envy 17" with 7850 GPU and it's about $200 cheaper (after tax and coupons) then Samsung in similar configuration, so I figure I might just save a few $$$.

i bought the very last one best buy had. Only the richmond location got them and they only got about 5....they sold out day one and haven't restocked them...this leads me to believe this "new" version people are seeing on amazon is actually an upgrade to this laptop and they are waiting for the newer version to restock stores with. which will me off a lil to tell the truth...smh.

the one other place that i think woud have this laptop is the microsoft store in the galleria...its series 7 mania in there...thats your best bet...but i'd wait at this point to see if this new model is an improved version...or a gimped down version.

Strange afterburner 2.2.1 works fine here. core can be clocked up to +135MHz more (wish that it could do more as I think the chip is capable of more), and memory can do +800 or something, not checked since memory maxes out around +600.

Also clocks are reported correctly when the card is being used (games/3dmark etc) but is buggy when it just idles. the realtime clock info panel on the right side that is.

The Envy is glossy, the Samsung is matte. The Envy is a brick the Samsung is Sleek and trim and light. We don't know how the 7850 will compare yet.

Former Envy 17" user here. Trust me when I say this: This Samsung will make you very happy if you are turned on by Envy 17. I fell for Envy 17 for the same reasons. But this Samsung is a much better laptop than Envy 17. I think I have made posts comparing the two in the beginning somewhere.

In nutshell, matte screen on Samsung is much better, it is lighter by a pound, its thinner and smaller (the screen is same size but the laptop is not as long), sound is better. Obviously, the issues with HP Envy having bent USB port, missing keystrokes, keyboard flex & rattling etc. are not there. The cons are slow HDD, only one slot for HDD, no blu ray.
