For that adapter, does it have a right angle plug on the laptop end? A minor annoyance I have is the straightline plug that comes stock with it hitting on things, and I might buy that adapter if it had a lower profile right angle plug at the end.

Found some pics from ebay, if its right model...looks like straight in plug. Wonder if the RocketFish adapter would work...they use right angle plugs.

I was really thinking of going third party on my second power adapter. But being the stock adapter that came with the machine is only 90 watts and it gets really hot when I'm on a full blast gaming marathon. I'm scared that a third party adapter won't cut it and go boom. and from what I see its reasonably priced anyway.

Yeah, the 90Watt PSU is a stressed, the computer could easily draw more but samsung has implemented throttling to avoid it pulling more. I'd rather see samsung deliver it with an 120Watt PSU.

In prime + furmark it maxed out at 87Watt, but both CPU and GPU throttled, without throttling it would easily pull in the 110-120Watt area.

So, can one use a 120 watt adapter? Would that work, or could damage the system/battery?

If you find one with right plug and 19V output, no problem. Doubt it would help since the samsung bios is probably programmed to throttle to below 90W max usage anyway.

There is no mention of the 8GB flash drive. So that may account for the price difference.

How did you guys end up installing the OS/drivers on the SSD? The Samsung Recovery Media seems to hold the OS, but does it also install the drivers, too? I downloaded the drivers from the Samsung website just in case...

The only driver need is the wireless driver, because with that you can access the internet and download the easy software manager, then from there, download and install all the drivers/programs you want.

    Edit:
The Samsung Recovery Media (that is the disc that came with the laptop, right?) doesn't have the drivers on it, just the OS.

No, no drivers. Definitely get them off of Samsungs site.
QUestion: What samsung software is useful? I notice some of my Fn buttons dont' work, like eject and wireless. I don't have any of the samsung software.
Anyone notice that there is a bios firmware update?

samsung software manager and easy settings are 2 i'd definitely recommend.

I think its easy settings that handles the fn button controls. not positive on that though

Well, I finally took the plunge and opened up my box (was trying out a new hp dv7 with similar specs) - this Samsung is perhaps the most beautiful piece of technology I've ever seen.
The screen: fantastic - perfect for document viewing - 17.3 gives you just enough space and no squinting/cramping, like a 15.6. Matte is a necessity for me as glare really bugs my eyes.
Build/design: excellent form factor/weight. Feels more like a 15.6 build (not an ultrabook), fits in a 16" neoprene laptop sleeve. Still compact enough to slip in a backpack without feeling like you're carrying around a tabletop/giant cutting board. Slick looking and not a macbook copycat. It really just exudes professionalism. Not too heavy or unwieldy.
The performance: with a Sandisk Extreme 256gb ($209 on amazon a couple weeks back) it's blazing! I can hardly use the max of the CPU - too fast!
GPU: with the right settings, Crysis 2 and Skyrim are smooth and detailed. Maybe not the maximum detail/effects, but still awesome for not looking like a spaceship and being twice/three times the size.
    Keyboard: great for typing.
Trackpad: still getting used to it but like the features.

One caveat: Mine has a big dip (1/8 of an inch) in the middle of the keyboard. I'll probably have to return it because at $1400 I demand a little more perfection, but I will definitely want the same model because, otherwise, I couldn't be happier!

The big question though is what type of GPU will it have? I called amazon and they said that $1350 is the retail price, just as the S01US has a retail price of $1499. Samsung seems to like to keep their pricing up so I really cant imaging them dropping 150 for an HDD... there must be something else lacking and one can only speculate because no-ones talking specs yet.

what does the samsung software manager do, other than collect your usage data and feed it to Samsung? Does it actually help with anything?

Yes, I believe that it will have 640M or maybe 630M. Just HDD cannot make a difference of $150

I talked with Amazon & searched online too, but get any info on GPU :(

the software manager has all the drivers in it, you download and install them strait from it. and it's a one stop place for all driver updates

Just got this a couple nights ago and I'm still unsure if the trackpad is going to drive me crazy.

It appears the "button" area is only about 1cm high when it's deciding between standard pointer movement and a 2 finger gesture. So if my thumb drifts up from the left "button," the pointer stops dead in its tracks as if I'm suddenly wanting to do a scrolling gesture.

For work I use a Mac with BootCamp/Windows 7, and I measured its "button" area as about 1.5cm, and I verified the Mac's trackpad behaves this same way. But I never get pointer freeze on it, while I'm getting it all the time on this laptop. Oh, and did I mention that on the Samsung the gesture is inconsistently interpreted so the freezes seem completely random?

I can also confirm that it's rather easy to freeze the pointer with what I'd call normal use: One finger moving pointer normally, then thumb touches the button area only => pointer freezes. (This made it out of QA testing?)

Does anyone know of any utility/driver software, other than the tab in the mouse settings, to adjust the landing areas for the buttons? :err:

    (Driver 10.7.16.1)

(And other than this frustrating trackpad experience, this laptop blows Macs out of the water, even with an inexcusable 5400rpm drive and how awkward it is trying to use a keyboard/trackpad offset to the left side.)

It has one HDD slot only. You could replace the ODD with an 9.5mm HDD caddy if you don't need the optical drive.

I plan to leave the original (stock) adapter at home, and the slim adapter always stays in the backpack for travel. It seems to be the same proportion wise, but trust me on this. The slim is much more pocket friendly and does not add bulk like the stock adapter. An excellent purchase for people on the go.

Up next on the list is an razer orochi and im done burning a hole through my pocket. :D

I got a generic 9.5 mm caddy from amazon, because it was $10 vs $45 for the newmodeus. the only problem with it is that there are no screw holes in it at all to attach it to the laptop, so the only thing holding the caddy to the computer is sata connection. but being that this laptop is so thin and compact, do you think it will be fine and the bottom cover will hold it in place and it wont put too much stress on the sata connection?

You should tape it at the very least. HDD are more prone to failure during to vibrations. So, since the ODD is also on SATA III connection, you better SSD in there and leave the original HDD in its original place.

    I just installed a Samsung 830 SSD..
Im wanting to use the internal integrated express cache for storage of files, since I don't think it's needed with a SSD.
I see the 8gb expresscache in device manager, However when I go into computer management, I can't assign a drive letter to the drive. Any suggestions? it's all grayed out.
any downfall to not using this as express cache?

click start. in the search bar type "diskmgmt.msc", open diskmgmt.msc. you will see the exress cache there, its the 8 gb drive (its actually 7.46gb). right click on it then delete volume. right click again and then click "new simple volume" and just follow the wizard to give it a drive letter and format it.

From what I can understand, your colors seems kinda "weird"? Well, you can change your color settings in the graphics setting (in the intel HD graphic properties at bottom right of screen). Maybe take a screenshot so we can see what the problem is.

I've seen people say this several times in this thread, and I have to wonder. . . did you people take the bracketing OFF the DVD drive and attach it to the caddy? Because the bracketing on the DVD drive are where all the attachment points are, and my caddy accepted these brackets easily.
