    there were no screw holes on the caddy to attach the bracketing from the DVD drive. the sata connection holds it pretty firm, and the bottom cover is such a tight fit that, it can't hardly move. I taped it down with some electrical tape. will let yall know if anything happens to it. as of now everything is working great.

    No kidding! That VGA port can be really dicey. To add my two cents to the guides: pop the tabs all the way around but don't try to put the plastic over the VGA until the end! you can end up damaging the bottom plastic or even the motherboard.
    I found that fingernails leave lots of marks on the plastic edge. What do people suggest as a tool for this?

    Anyone else play HoN (Heroes of Newerth)? Whether I have the graphics at medium or high, 1080p or 900p, the game always stutters/lags. Diablo 3 runs at high on 1080p at ~50-70 fps, but this game is giving me issues. I want to say it's the 650m graphics card just because I had this issue with the HP DV6t Quad with 650m.

    I used a real small flat head screw driver.

    for ppl who haven't taken it apart yet, it is not easy. takes time and patience. I would recommend planning everything you want to do and take it off once and do everything then, just because its a PITA to take the cover off.

    Do you think it's possible to remap the delete key or the opening of the dvd disk drive?

    I would love to keep the function lock on, but it's REALLY annoying when my delete key turns into opening of the disk drive. Literally, that is the only key that prevents me from keeping function lock on or off.

    You could use a program like Auto hot key to map a key that you don't use to eject or whatever you want to change.

    No, no update.
    S01US = $1499. There is a promotional 1399 price.

    S03US = $1349. Look like it will not have 8GB SSD & 750GB HDD. But it's still a lot better than 1TB 5400RPM+8GB SSD.

    If screen/GPU etc will be same. I will go with S03US

    Am I the only one with poor wifi strength on the 700Z7C? Visited my parents in the weekend and I kept loosing connection. Yes power is connected and it's set to "max performance". I have also updated the drivers.

    Same problem in my apartments bedroom, I'm used to have problems with atheros/broadcom cards in the same places, but this time it's an intel card which I thought would be better (putting intel cards in my previous laptops has fixed the problems).

    Had two 700Z7Cs, both with the same wifi issues.

    Make sure your laptop is on a flat surface like a table, because when I placed my laptop on a slope surface (my laptop cooler), the wifi signal suddenly becomes bad and I get a slow connection/no connection. Don't know why this happens though.

    Yeah I kinda noticed that if I angled the screen slightly different or moved it a bit on the table connection quality changed, sometimes it was ok for a while.
    Still have problems most of the time.

    i've been doing alot of game testing lately myself...for the most part...im statisfied...however...for a card that claims to be direct x 11 capable...anytime i enable direct x 11 features on a game that has them....games become unplayable...so...what the point of claiming its a feature?

    like with batman....turning on direct 11 will drop your frame rates to 17fps at resolutions exceptable for this screen. the same for battle field 3. i just feel like im being teased. lol

    Yes, I remember the same for DX9 to DX10 jump. At that time Age of Conan was new and fresh and supported DX10 in an update shortly after.
    Even my powerful gaming rig at that time struggled with DX10, and my laptop (Asus M50SA with DX10 capable ATI HD3650m card) gave like 5fps with DX10 features enabled.

    Has anyone else noticed that the 650m in this thing runs at 660m speeds? I've been running HWinfo64 while playing some games, and the shaders seem to constantly run at 835Mhz and memory at 1000Mhz (x2 for ddr= 2000Mhz). Those are the rated speeds for the 660m, not the 650m (735 Mhz core/900Mhz memory). Is this a fluke, or are others seeing this? I haven't done any overclocking.

    Yes I am noticing the same issue.
    When trying to play SWTOR I keep losing the connection even though I am only a few feet from the router. Not having the same issue with any other laptop only the Samsung. I have also tried three different routers with no noticeable difference.

    I'm not playing SWTOR, but I'm having similar issues. I play HoN (Heroes of Newerth) and my old HP laptop can play it fine, but this laptop lags every few seconds and I even see disconnect icon every now and then (although I don't quite get disconnected). First I thought it was the gpu, but my fps stays at 90 and ping/traceroute shows intermittent time outs and high pings.

    All of you guys installing the Samsung 830 SSD with a clean install; did you install the intel rapid storage technology drivers? It's an optional install on the Samsung Easy software manager. Just curious if it would speed anything up, or slow it down.

    GT650M DDR3 version runs at 835MHz core, with turbo boost up to 950MHz. 900MHz DDR3 memory
    GT650M GDDR5 version runs at 735MHz core, with turbo boost up to 835MHz. 1000MHz GDDR5 memory
    GTX660M runs at 835MHz core with turbo boost up to 950MHz. 1000MHz GDDR5 memory.

    That should be the difference between the cards.

    Well, Hello to All;

    especially Paul, almost a neighbor..

    You guys got me 86% ready to pull the trigger on this Samsung, My Vaio starting to go down the tubes.. I wanted to wait for the intro of the Vizio laptop as Vizio has some surprises for us in store I'm sure, But the simple clean elegance of this one amazes me, ( Saw it at BB ) I liked it more than I thought I would. Better than anything thats out there now in this price point. Good engineering/design, great screen, fast components, good keyboard. Don't care about the pad, I use a mouse. I want a reliable computer that will last and not give me any grief. So, I came here to do my due diligence. Nice Post, good peeps, great discussions. No negatives here! I would like thoughts on the longevity of Samsung products. If it works well I like to keep something around longer than most. Good friends, good wine, etc. Spend a good dollar, keep it around longer.
    ( I own a '71 442 conv. in red! ) Samsung has a great rep in other areas but not much time & rep in laptops ( That I know of ) so how are they in the longer run?

    Well the only other samsung laptop I've owned (an R580) is now in for repairs. Errors: 1: turns off when temp reaches 90C, probably have to replace mainboard. 2: left touchpad button failed after 6 moths of use. 3: The screen has developed an large area that is miscoloured, probably have to be replaced. 4: Battery lasted 9 months and then suddenly died.

    So my previous experience is not so good, but I'm probably just unlucky. The store said they had a very low service/failure % on samsung compared to Asus, Apple and Toshiba.

    Personally I don't think samsung is much different than other manufacturers. And I'm a guy that has owned like 7-8 acers and never had a problem with any of them, despite the "low quality" reputation of acer.

    Hello all,

    on last friday, my notebook was delivered, and it's a brilliant piece of technology.
    Only one thing drives me crazy for the moment:
    In office mode (surfing, word, etc.), the device is very quiet and the fan is barely hearable, the fan works constantly.
    But when watching videos or the cpu is busy, the fan gets very noisy. It's difficult to describe, theres a kind of vibration or chattering.
    How is the behaviour of your devices? Do you know this problem?
    Thanks!

    Well; A set of jewelers screwdrivers from any hardware store should do the trick.

    Thanks OC, But ( and no offence intended ) you impress me as a guy who pushes his equipment to the max, maybe not the way to go for long-term integrity & reliability. Samsung rep in their other products is VERY good. I consider that a major plus. Same w/Sony ( until recently ) I am intrigued by the Seagate Momentus hybrid drive, don't know squat about hybrids tho. Good size, specs, & speed versus cost. Thoughts? P.S. and Yez, my wife's Acer has impressed me with its simplicity, cost, performance, & build quality.

    I know for certain that this USB 2.0 HDD Enclosure comes with the right screwdriver. But I imagine this USB 3.0 HDD Enclosure will come with one, too. I'm only suggesting these if you're going to need a HDD enclosure as well as the screwdriver.

    No, it's definitively not the hard disk, it must be the cpu or gpu fan. Perhaps a coming bios update will solve this? It sounds like a cable is touching the fan or something like this...

    And ironically the R580 has been my sisters school laptop and has never been pushed, yet it's the only laptop that has failed out of 15 or so laptops I've had/used. Go figure ;)

    My acer 3820TG which has been overclocked for both CPU and GPU for longer periods still works as good as brand new.

    Quick question for the owners of this machine: Does the 650M downclock on battery, or do you still get full power? (i.e. Does your framerate end up in the toilet if you pull the power cord out.)

    I've tried out two of these now (the first one was sent back due to a stuck pixel and a large bend in the chassis). My second one seems to wistle quite a bit when the fan kicks on high. I hope this goes away and isn't a bad bearing on the fan itself... no vibe or chattering. The fan does seem very efficient though. I am actually very impressed with the cooling on this laptop, considering the thin frame. After an hp dv6 with horrible cooling design, this makes sense: the intake cools the ram and sends the air over (under) the entire motherboard, dual heat sinks for the CPU and GPu and two fans. looking at the innards, she's a South Korean beauty!.
