Im sure there is some software to disable whatever icon in the taskbar you want but i'd rather find something in the regedit to disable manually this one

Hi All,
I was just wondering if anyone was experiencing the following, The SW Updater message popped up and stated a newer version was available to upgrade to (no option to pass on it). It did install this next version just fine. Launched it. It wants to know my computer model. I entered the NP700Z7C-S01US. Then it asked me which Windows 8 operating system I had. I don't have 8. I'm using Windows 7 and am happy with it. But no option to choose 7 as the currently installed operation system. Am I missing something here or do things appear to be off a bit with this new SW Updater? Please assist.
Thanks -
I picked up the new Windows 8 version of this laptop, and I'm a little disappointed in the performance, and can't figure out why it's doing this. early in this thread, devsk reported "wprime finishes 32M in 8.72seconds with all 8 threads"- my np700z7c-s01ub socres 32M = 35.587 sec (*).
I would love to keep this laptop, but will return it if I can't figure out why it's behaving this way. This one has the 3635QM processor. This laptop feels slower than my old Dell XPS 1647 i5.
Anyone have any ideas?
OCZ Vertex 4 SSD is on the way.
Edit, it must have been something I'd installed. A factory recovery and the benchmarks are good. Will be benchmarking after every software install to see what it was. -
I'm moving my post to this thread, seeing as it's more relevant here! (I couldn't find an option to delete it in the other thread, but if a moderator could do so that would be great

hey anyone keyboard randomly stop working ?
it does that since like 1 day i dont understand, especially on firefox, i have to add another tab to unlock it
Oh and btw if you wanna get ride of the fking SW agent icon in the system tray, use autoruns or something like that from the microsoft website. It tells you everything that runs at startups and you just have to find it and untick it -

I just recieved my open box series 7 and I really want to love it, but one of fan is making a low level drone noise while the other one is silent. I have opened it up and try to lube it, it has improved a little, but it still annoys me. I tried to look for part replacement but it looks like there are no laptop parts website out there that are covering the parts for series 7 yet. There is one from Europe but I would like to get it from the state. Anyone know where I can buy it from? Directly from Samsung? I know I can return it but its was a good deal.

Hello does anyone have any creaking issues on their laptop ? I thought it was just made like that, but the laptop squeaks and creaks near the hinge when I open and close. It is quite annoying, and I thought it was just how the laptop was made. I went to a local best buy, and looked at the same model there, but it doesn't make those squeaks and creaks mine does.
I did open the laptop up to install a crucial m4 SSD, but I put it back all together and screws correctly. I thought I did a pretty good job because it looks like how it did when I bought it. Has anyone had these issues after opening up their laptop ? This is quite annoying on top of the wifi issues I am really having buyer's regret from this laptop. It has great specs and all, but terrible wifi signal and all these sounds it makes really makes this laptop seem cheap. Especially when it retails for $1400.... -

Anyone migrate to Windows 8 yet? I did it but now the mute LED is stuck on. Probably have to do with easy display manager software not exactly windows 8 compatible?
-
I wouldn't recommend upgrading to Windows 8 to anyone, don't get me wrong, the OS is nice, but not everything is working; the brightness adjustment of the keyboard backlit isn't, the adjustment of the screen brightness from the keyboard sometimes work and others doesn't, the mute indicator light also isn't working. I've just been told by a Samsung support representative, that the easy display drivers aren't available yet, so that is normal, there are some workarounds here in the forums, but if you don't want to struggle or lose time, just wait a little longer to upgrade, I wish I did.

All those things are working fine for me on Windows 8, just tested the mute button and keyboard backlight settings. Easy Settings was replaced by Settings, which SW Update installs fine. I don't think anything's not working for me, I did have display driver problems when using an external monitor and extended desktop - on cold boot, instead of a login screen it was just blank - had to unplug and replug in the monitor to get it back, or press standby and then resume.

UPDATE: Reinstalling Settings didn't work for me, I'm still unable to adjust the keyboard brightness and the mute indicator light is always off. -
If you press Fn + F1 does Settings launch? Or are you not getting that far and it's not installed properly? If Settings is incomplete I think drivers are probably not installed fully, any missing drivers in Device Manager?
-
Yes, it launches, but it's missing the section where the keyboard brightness can be adjusted, the power management stuff, like the setting for the lid opening and the setting to limit the battery charge to 80% (which I know it can be adjusted in the BIOS, so it doesn't bother me), and maybe some other stuff that I don't remember that it had, but I don't know if it's suppose to be like that or if is something wrong. Everything looks good in the Device Manager.

I dumped Windows 8 off my 7C only 12 hours after installing it and am now happily back to Win7.
There were bugs in the keyboard controls and USB 3.0 did not work and there was no driver provided for it.
The Win8 Desktop experience remminds me of Win3.1 and the sharp corners on the windows bother me.
The Win7 Desktop experience is a step way above Win8.
And whats with those tile thingies? -
It seems that the easiest way to get everything working is a clean install, sadly I don't have the time or the free space to do that right now, but at least I like Windows 8 very much.
-
I did a clean install of Windows 8 and USB 3.0 didn't work, ports just stayed at USB 2.0 speeds. That was a deal killer for me.
What do you like about Windows 8? -
In my opinion is very fast for switching apps, it has notifications, the live tiles keep me informed without having to go into the app, the graphic design is better, is very flexible and customizable (you can move arround tiles, change the size and make one of every program and folder in the computer), it syncs settings across my PC and laptop, and the fact that it has an app store (which could be improved, but it's a start).

The Intel WiUSB section contains USB-IF USB 3.0 Hub and USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller, perhaps that's missing from the other poster's installation (missing USB 3). One of the items under Universal Serial Bus controllers is Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft) too.
In Add/Remove programs the relevant system/device programs I have installed are:
EDTWare (touchpad)
ExpressCache
Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless for Bluetooth(R) + High Speed
Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth(R) Technology
Intel(R) WiDi
Intel HD Graphics Driver
Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software
Intel Rapid Storage Technology
Intel SDK for OpenCL - CPU Only Runtime Package
Quick Starter
Settings
Support Center
SW Update
Do you have all those? -
Don't worry for the Other Devices in the Device Manager, it's a Sony Ericsson bluetooth headset that never got official drivers, but it works fine. On the other hand, I don't have the following in the Add/Remove programs list:
Intel(R) WiDi
Intel SDK for OpenCL - CPU Only Runtime Package (but I do have a "OpenCL 1.1 support for Intel Core processor family")
Quick Starter
But in the SW Update I don't have anything to install, so I don't know where I could install those or even if installing them would solve my problems.
Thanks for the help. -
In SW Update try Find Model (bottom left) and enter model number, try the Intel ME Interface Driver for the OpenCL, worth trying Chipset driver too, does that make a difference?
Though in the main SW Update when I go to All Software I can see Chipset Driver, Intel Wireless Display and Intel ME Interface Driver are there and showing as installed. -
I've reinstalled the Intel ME Interface Driver for the OpenCL and the Chipset driver and everything is the same. In the SW Update I don't have the option to install the Intel Wireless Display. I've attached what I have in SW Update; I've tried Support Center but it crashes upon start, I don't need Recovery Solution nor Allshare Play, however, I have installed them once just to try and nothing got better, so I uninstall them.
-
Might be worth having a look through the logs - right click the bottom left corner of the screen and load Event Viewer, see what there is under the Windows Logs if anything looks relevant (especially at reboot and stuff that happened during those installs).
-
There's a lot of information, at a glance I did't see anything relevant. I think I'm close to just give up and wait for some new drivers or to be able to do a clean install.
Thank you for your help. -
hi..spent hours reading this thread via phone today as i just ordered the NP700Z7C despite seeing lots of bits and pieces of info, it was hard to find the whole answer for a few questions.....
1. what has been the most satisfactory fix for the wifi issues?
2. which 500, 750 or 1 TB SSDs work best/ most easily to replace 5400 rpm drive?
3. thought i saw someone also replace the 8 gig ssd with the old 5400 rpm drive as a second drive ??? how did that work out?
4. have been reading about some sort of graphics issue? is that w this model?
5. waited kind of long to make this choice....wondering if by now i missed a better cheaper option out there. seemed to me that the others i considered were either missing some of the specs or more expensive..
thanks for any advice... -

2. Whichever 9mm or 7mm you prefer.
3. The 8GB SSD is soldered onto the motherboard. You are probably thinking of the Optical Drive, some of us have replaced that with a 2nd HDD.
4. I haven't had any graphics issues (Photoshop, Gw2, Diablo 3, WoW) -

Wow! Huge thread. I'm about to read through all of it now. I'm considering the z7c or the ASUS N76VZ-DH71. I like the style of the Samsung a little better, same speed CPU/GPU, but the Asus comes with more ram, 2 500GB hard drives and blueray for less. They are making it difficult to go with the z7c. The things that will make the biggest difference though will be the quality of the 1080P screens and how quiet they are in idle/light workloads.
Thoughts anyone? Anyone try both?
Also, I can't see it in the specs from my supplier. Do either of these models use DDR5 with the GPU? -

Review Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z7C Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
The samsung is more mobile than the asus, which is heavier and has lower battery life.
For the GPU the samsung has GDDR5 while the asus has DDR3 -
Wow i thought i was the only one with that same exact problem. I called Samsung tech support and it was the first they ever heard of it.{ ya right}. Ever since i purchased this laptop i had nothing but problems with the Samsung updater, Easy software, etc... I totally eliminated all the Samsung updaters etc.... I now go to device management and check each driver myself for upgrades and works just fine. Let me know if you find a solution to be able to update Windows 7 .

Concerning the SW Update tool, I emailed Samsung twice with the Windows 7 problem. Here's the response I finally received:
We appreciate you contacting Samsung Electronics and being a valued customer. We understand that you are experiencing problems getting Windows 7 Updates from the Samsung Software Updater App.
We apologize for the issues you are experiencing with the Software Updater. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our Software Updater servers, they were trying to pull updates from our servers in Korea, and it is causing the updates to fail, and Software Updater to crash. . As a result, we had to temporarly pull Windows 7 from the package, which is why you are only able to select Windows 8 as your OS. We are working on resolving this issue, but do not have an ETA at this time. We recommend uninstalling Software Updater, as well as Easy Software Manager if it is installed on your model, and manually downloading the appropriate Drivers/Updates from Download Center: Download Software, Firmware, Drivers & Manuals | Samsung.

Hello
Can anybody give me a link who changed DVD caddy to HDD? -
If anyone hasn't been a fan of the trackpad, I recently uninstalled the most current trackpad drivers that are for the 700Z7C (according to Samsung SW update), and instead, installed the series 5 trackpad drivers Support - Series 5 Notebooks NP540U3C | Samsung Laptops
Basically, my trackpad has never been better. Increased smoothness, accuracy, and overall the experience is much better.
This has been talked about in the trackpad discussion thread as well. -

Has anyone had any problems with the 4-in-1 Multi Card Reader? I have both Windows 7 and 8 installed and it doesn't seem to be detect on either OS. I double checked to see if the reader was plugged in properly when I opened my laptop up. Seems the Reader shares the same connection as the USB 2.0 ports.
I think it might have something to do with some bent pins. When I was replacing the DVD drive with a HDD caddy I took out the cable to the USB 2.0 and Card reader ports, and unknowingly bent the pins from plugging in the connector at an angle. When I noticed the bent pins I went in and straightened them all out with a screw.
My USB 2.0 ports work fine, but seems my Card Reader is gone...
Does anyone have a solution for my issue? Is it a defective or damaged circuit board for those ports? -
Hello all.
I recently bought the 700z7c-s01UB, installed an SSD in it and send the original HD to the optical bay.... Then I created a booteable pen drive and copied my Win 7 cd to it.... After that I installed Win 7 in the SSD... So far so good, BUT, here start the problems, after the first reboot, when it should boot from the SSD it boots from the pen drive again. I take the pen drive out but its like it never installed anything.
What I have tested so far without results:
-Every possible configuration in the bios (boot order, disable fast boot, enable AHCI manually...etc)
-Delete, assign and format each HD in the Win 7 installation
-Install Win 7 in the original HD, same result that with the SSD
-Install intel AHCI controller in the Win 7 installation.
Running out of ideas....
Help me please !
Thanks in advance. -

I'm really interested in this laptop but I need a blu ray drive. Does anyone know if it's possible to swap out the DVD drive and replace it with a blu ray drive? If so, any recommendations for which blu ray drive would be suitable? I presume it would need to be slot-loading? I would also replace the hard drive for a solid state one. Thanks for any help. -
Does the DVD sats has 6gb/s ?
