Sorry to be such a newb, but is there a step by step guide on how to install a SSD. I mean after doing the hardware part, is there any guide that specifically outlines all the software such as drivers n such that are needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    It's all in the thread.
Just put in the SSD, install Windows, beforehand download the wifi driver from the Samsung website, install the driver, download Easy Software Manager, let it do the work.

Here again the hardware installation video.

Can anyone explain the difference between the Series 7 S01US and the S03US? From Samsung's website it looks like the S01US has an LED screen and 2 GB memory for the NVDIAGT 650M card, as opposed to a 1 GB card in the S03US. However, the S03 comes with a 7200 rpm hard drive vs the 5400 rpm in the S01. Is it worth it to spend more on the S01, knowing I'll need to replace the HHD? Is the extra memory on the video card worth it? I will be running AutoCAD, which is pretty-resource intensive.

If you're going to run CAD on a laptop you certainly should go for one with the professional Nvidia card, like the Lenovo W530. It has the Nvidia Quadro K2000 which is certified for CAD. The W530 also has a better work performance.
But if you need to be ultra-mobile go for the Samsung.

As far as I know the S03 comes with less graphics memory (1GB), no 8GBSSD cache and a 750GB 7200rpm HDD. I recommend the S01 with a SSD.

Will the easy software program download all the other drivers? Where do you get that program? Can you put it on an external hardrive instead of a thumb drive? What about the nVidia drivers? Sorry but i just got the laptop and I don't want to mess it up.

S03 does come with 8g ssd. I prefer the faster disk drive to 2g nvidia card so I recommed the less expensive S03 to the S01. (If it didn't have the 8g ssd I'd agree with you. )

Usually you would have to read it in the thread, but I don't want to be a . Next time just look it up.

YES, it will download the other drivers. ALL the drivers. You can get it on the Samsung site. Samsung US | TVs – Tablets – Smartphones – Cameras – Laptops – Refrigerators. Search for your product and then click the support header. This is for the German version. YES, even the nVidia drivers. YES, you can put it on a thumbdrive but you still need the wi-fi driver, otherwise the ESM can't download anything.

Thanks. I've been reading a million posts on the AutoCAD website about GeForce vs. Quadro video cards, and there doesn't seem to be a consensus that Quadro really are any better/worth the extra $$. I do need the mobility, and the extra large screen is a huge bonus. I think I'll get the S01 and swap in a new hard drive.

Just replaced the Samsung 830 in my Samsung Series 7 with a Plextor M5 Pro and I can't believe the speeds I'm getting with a laptop. I wish I still had my SFF system for testing.

    hi guys,

I've been having a few issues recently:

    1) I was using the touchpad elan driver and checked the box to disable the touchpad (in config panel>mouse) whenever there is a external mouse connected but now it will stay on even when its connected, i have to fn+f5 every time, any idea to correct this problem?
    2) My usb mouse keeps getting disconnected, its like there is a baterry problem. It's the second one ive tried so i guess its not related to my external mouse...
    3) I use silent mode every time, is there any script to be able to turn silent mode and high performance battery at once ? because each time i hit quiet mode it goes to eco energy battery mode :(

First off let me say i have had this laptop for a few months and absolutely love it. I have one problem with it, it has happened twice so far. I will close the laptop, putting it to sleep, come back in a few hours and for some reason something is running and has all the processor cores maxed out, so it kills my battery and gets dangerously hot, im talking like burn your hand to the touch hot. one time i was going on a two hour trip so i put it in a case then when i got there i took it out, and it was so hot i was smelling melting plastic. i have tried a system restore and its still really hot, it wasnt always like this. the fans are running and its idling at about 60*C. any ideas of what i can do?

I've never put a sleeping computer in a bag because of these issues (but hibernation is usually robust). Scrutinising the System log in Event Viewer may reveal what is happening but a good starting place is to go through the device properties in Device Manager and make sure that any options to "Allow this device to wake the computer" are deselected.

    Hello all.
I'm thinking in getting this notebook for Photoshop/illustration/3d modeling.
    And my question is:
¿What model is better for me, the NP700Z7C-S01US or the NP700Z7C-S03US?
They are about the same price...$1400 in Best Buy and $1350 in amazon....
    Thanks in advance :)

I just bought the NP700Z7C- S03US from Amazon today. The differences between both laptops are:

    • The S01US has a 1 terabyte 5400 rpm hard drive and the S03US has a 720 GB 7200 rpm
    • The SO1US has 2 GB of video card memory, where as the S03US has 1 GB of memory

I think the biggest deciding factor for me was the warranty. Amazon offers the 3 year spill, drop warranty through SquareTrade for about $180. In addition, they have one day shipping for $8.99 if you are a Prime customer, so I'll be receiving mines tomorrow.

I am not a big gamer, but do play some games such as L4D2 and Portal, but my main use for this laptop is programming. In addition, with it's hardware specs, I can use it for another 3-5 years without worrying about an upgrade or any hard ware issues as its covered under warranty through SquareTrade .

So depending on whats better, there is a trade off. The S03 has the smaller, but faster hard drive and the same videocard as the S01 but 1 GB instead of two. I am not sure how this would effect gaming performance.

Also, from what I have been reading, both laptops have wifi signal degradation due to antenna placement. There are some settings you can change on the wifi card through its control panel for better performance. Will update this thread tomorrow once I get my laptop.

I think you would need the 2GB of memory for graphics intensive applications. Get the S01US.

    These are on sale again at CowBoom for $799 (Pre-Owned) Samsung NP700Z7C-S01US Laptop i7 2.3GHz 8GB 1TB DVDRW - CowBoom.com

A couple of us got ours from here that were labeled as 8 quality and they arrived in really good condition. They have 30-day return policy in which they pay for return shipping. My initial laptop had a hardware issue and I was able to exchange it for another 8 quality and I haven't had any issues with the replacement.

I got mine last friday at CompUSA. I gotta say it's an awesome machine. Best speakers i've ever heard. The only serious problem is the Wi-Fi... but i'll solve it some how.

I'm studying Industrial Design and let me tell you this one is awesome (i have the S01US).
It's runs all kinds of programs from illustrator to any 3D modelling program or rendering program you might use.

I ended up going with the S01 over the S03, and am very pleased. I swapped out the 5400 rpm hard drive with a 7200 (couldn't afford a big SSD) which was very easy to do. I'm running Civil 3D 2011, which loads easily and runs great.

I have some questions about my new 700z7c

I monitor my gt 650m activity, and while I'm browsing the web (without any computer games open) the GPU sometimes clocks up, and then drops back down to idle. And I set the global settings and most applications to use the integrated HD 4000. Is this normal Nvidia Optimus operation?

Also I'm using BatteryBar Pro and it estimates I have only 3 hours and 30 minutes at full capacity while web browsing. My monitor is set to relatively low screen brightness and I use ThrottleStop to keep my CPU idle at 800 MHz most of the time. Is this accurate battery life reading?

This Anandtech review has some battery info which gives longer times than you are seeing. Possible investigation includes:

    1. Is the Battery Life Extender option enabled in Easy Settings? (this limits the battery charge to 80% which reduces wear if you are not needing to use the full battery capacity)
    2. Run HWiNFO which will show the full battery info (what is the fully charged capacity and is any wear as new and what is the actual power drain?)
    3. HWiNFO will also show CPU and GPU speed. Are they at the minimum?
    4. Use Task Manager to see the process activity. On light web browsing the CPU usage should be less than 5%.
    5. Any USB devices will use power, as will WiFi and Bluetooth
    6. Historically, Flash on web pages was a power guzzler, particularly if animated. I got into the habit of using Firefox with FlashBlock and AdBlock to stop unwanted content from guzzling my battery.

I understand the battery life thing now. Now my main problem is Nvidia Optimus.

Why does my GT 650m load when I'm doing something as simple as loading a webpage? How do I force it to idle while I'm doing general tasks like web browsing and Microsoft Office until I launch a graphics-intensive application like a game? Does anyone else have this problem?

You have something that's turning on the 650, but not actually utilizing it. Gpuz, MSI Afterburner, or some other monitor application.

Edit: It could even be battery bar pro. Terminate local processes one by one until you see optimus turn off.

Yes, I can't help but notice GPU utilization is 0% while the GPU is loaded at default clocks (no overclocking).

I've already set the global settings to integrated graphics, which means any application running that's not on the list of programs in the Nvidia Control Panel should default to the HD 4000 right?

I didn't just close some applications, just restarted them while I was trying to see if using "high performance" on applications like Rainmeter would have any effect. So far after messing around with the configuration, I have the GPU being utilized by my web browser, and the GPU is now running mostly idle clocks.

I'm jut trying to set everything to use integrated graphics except my games of course so it's not producing exessive heat and consume excessive battery life.

Does anyone know of a rainmeter GPU monitoring theme that doesn't rely on Afterburner?

Ok guys, finaly put my hands on this notebook.
    I have a couple of observations... :)
1- The screen (the most important thing to me), its good but I espected more... Viewing angles aren't very good.... And there are some light bleed....
2- The battery doesnt last long.... May be its a configuration problem, I think that I solve it (the 0% vs None thing)

So.... what do you guys think?, I am expecting too much?
There is a better option? I am an illustrator
Any one knows what are the return polices of best buy?

    Thanks a lot, really.

So the problem is the USB mouse disconnecting? That will be nothing to do with the touchpad settings.

Does this happen on both mains and battery power? if only on battery then go into the Windows Power settings and make sure that the USB Selective suspend is disabled. You can also try disabling any USB power saving options in Device Manager.

Does anyone know how to get the audio/mic combo jack to work? I only need it for headphones. At first I tried plugging my headphones in but a little bit of the plug is still out (not ure if this is how it's supposed to be.

Read online that I needed an adapter so I got this:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SP0WAQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Tried plugging it in, main plug still sticking out a bit, and plugged my headphones into the adapter, still nothing.

How do you get this combo jack to work? What special adapter do I need for this laptop or am I not pushing it in hard enough?

Does not need any adapters to work.

One of my headphones went in with ease, but another one I had to push in so hard that I cut my finger on the edge of the laptop. :(

You have to push extremely hard with some to the point where you think you're going to break it, I even had a difficult time getting it out but it got easier after time but still stiff.

OOOOH okay! I hear a fine "snap" that locks in headphones in place. And I only needed to push pretty hard but not to the point of breaking. Thanks. Feels easier when I'm taking it back out and replugging it back in.

Yes, I did the upgrade last night. First installed the BIOS update which appeared after upgrading to SW Update.
Then during Win 8 install I had to uninstall Easy Settings, and 3 or 4 drivers e.g. bluetooth. Then when upgrade was complete, used SW Update to install all the Win 8 versions, e.g. Settings, Express Cache, etc.
The Samsung launcher has been updated with a Windows 7-style Start Menu, though it won't install for me. Not really bothered though I'm loving Windows 8. Everything else installed fine and seems to be working ok.
Only thing is I really wanted Bitlocker with auto-unlocking, but it appears that there's no TPM chip :-(

Has anyone tried any cooling mods on this? I feel that giving the exhaust vents (a lot) more breathing room and adding more intake vents at the bottom will definitely make the laptop a lot cooler (and hopefully will not compromise the aesthetics of the laptop too much).

Is there a way to remove the keyboard keys from the top/front? So I can remove dirt and crumbs from below? Or do I have to disassemble the whole thing? I never had a chiclet style keyboard and idk if it hurt the keyboard if I just pulled out the key.

I don't know about removing that keyboard, but the way I keep my chiclet-style keyboard on my Sony clean is to use a can of air to blow out any debris or crumbs every day or so. Available at Radioshack or WalMart for a couple of bucks.
