Thanks! ill give that driver a go, so from what im reading then, installing win 8.1 will make switchable graphics just worse then
-
I realy dont know how to answer you this, for now i dont see any difference. Try and see. I personaly think 8.1 is faster than 8, but i have same graphich problems

well i got it working, i have 120 fps now, and steady 60 with vs, idk if it was fix from thiat forum or the fact that i installed settings and picked there to turn off silent mode
-
If you had Silent Mode on, that would definitely explain all forms of slowness you may have experienced: It keeps your CPU locked at its slowest speed, in order to keep the system cool and fans quiet. Lots of Samsung owners fall into that trap, it is very common.
Following are a few (of many more) threads on the subject:

i mean the silent mode was "off" with fn and f11 button, but maybe it can be turned off only in settings
-
OK, I see.
The user interface can be a bit confusing: Fn-F11 will toggle Silent Mode on/off. But Silent Mode (when it is on) has two different settings: AUTO (which turns fans on/off as needed) and LOW (which keeps fans running at a constant low speed). In Settings (and Easy Settings for Win7 users) you can choose directly between AUTO, LOW and OFF. For normal use, definitely keep it OFF.
This post summarizes Samsung Power Management philosophy.
If Silent Mode was already off, then something else must have caused the performance issue you were seeing. Several users of this model have reported how they sometimes have to unplug/re-plug the power cable to snap it out of slow mode (I have assumed related to switchable graphics, but it could be something else). However a recent BIOS update may have addressed that, as described here by member jessevl in the AB8 Owners' Lounge. Please read other posts there from the last few days before making the update. -
Thank you, its all so strange, so meny options and modes on this laptop i used few days to reinstall windows, get rid of crap from intel that takes 6gb ram and to get good fps. Anyway thanks for help. I do need one more informaton thou: is it worth it to buy ssd ? maybe replace with hdd or as i have seen on internet change it with dvd unit
-
Replacing the original HDD with an SSD will speed up a lot in general use. Lots and lots of owners have done that, and it is discussed extensively in the AB8 Owners Lounge. Check pranktank's opening post to get started and for installation advice.
Previous generations of this model series (Series 7 models from 2011 and 2012) came with a feature called ExpressCache which speeds up disk access on the HDD, using a small SSD on the motherboard as cache. But Samsung stopped providing ExpressCache starting with the 2013 models (I am guessing because it caused too many support issues) so that many users find the HDD too slow and quickly replace it with an SSD.
An SSD will not do anything to improve framerates in games, only in general use, boot speed, and loading apps (including games). -
Yea i know ssd wont effect fps, but hdd realy slows any pc down. I will look at article, ssd disks are still kinda expencive for my budget, so i will maybe but it later

What do you guys think about hyprethreading, is it worth having it on?

A quick Google suggests that whether HT helps or hinders depends on individual circumstances and the decision should be based on testing.
So if, for example, you are worried about effect of HT on FPS then do your own tests with HT enabled and then disabled and note the values. It would be useful if you report back with your findings of this research so we know what you found.

Well disable HT did no real difference in fps or anything else. But i did manage to speed up system with disabling the paging file, since i had normal HDD in my laptop

Don't disable the paging file unless you know that you have enough RAM that you'll never run out.
However, I always set my paging file to have a fixed size to avoid fragmentation resulting from size changes.
John -
Ah great, how did you manage that? in the end i haf to go back to the sw update driver the 9.3 mth driver
i got many drivers to work, but in the end they all go stuck on 20 fps even when no in intense scenarios.
Which one did u end up using? Cheers -

Hi everyone
I'll request this thread to be closed so that questions get asked where the most answers are. A lot more members read and post a lot more in the owner's thread of this laptop. It also has a lot of tips and FAQ that might answer your questions in the first post, be sure to read that one.
