Have I missed something on unofficial overclocking? Install AB, change values of "unofficial O.CEULA/unofficial O.CMode" to "1" with notepad, move it to directory, go in registry and change {4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}, in folder 001, change "EnableUlps" value to "0". Without opening AB, reboot.
After redoing this process I didn't use a application to clear data, just "uninstall program".
I have unlock voltage control/monitoring checked off in settings.
I can't change memclock/core clock values in AB, stuck at zero.

    I only have folders 0000 & 0001.
I only have one "EnableUlps", and "EnableUlps_NA"

Oh okay. Have you changed "EnableUlps_NA"? Because that should not be changed. It appears you followed the exact steps that I wrote so I'm not sure what went wrong. Your laptop is not going easy on you :(.

What version of afterburner are you on? You might want to uninstall and reinstall it and edit the .cfg file again. Also, if you update your graphics drivers the values in the registry will be back to normal so you'll have to change them again.

Is there a way to overclock the CPU !? or control the turbo boost?

I´ve tried the MSI Afterburner with a 770Z7E and it works great! A real performance improvement :D

    Thanks

Do you have the 17" version? My GPU is still throttling with the 120W PSU, drivers, good temps, etc. I really don't know what else to try.

Hello i have the NP880Z5E - touchscreen, black but i have mager fps issues i turned silent mode off, pluggid my pc in and set the game on high preority. i got max 60fps on minecraft all max, fullscreen but i should be getting 112fps :S same with simcity with everything tuned down i get 40fps but u should be getting 80. i did update my AMD driver to 13.6 beta2 and then turned it back to 13.1(also my intel driver is now at the begging version when you buy this laptop) that helped with some games like skyrim before i cant go above 21fps(diddnet matter what settings i picked) but now in 13.1 i get 45fps on high. i also tryd reinstalling java, windows updates etc.
and my dxdiag says that there is a error with direct3D but when i tried to reinstall directx11 it says that i already have the most updated version. only BF3 runs pretty good (dx9) but better at the 13.6 driver. and i get only 10fps on "3DMark11Workload1" with is weard i think
i got insurande for this laptop so i dont want to overclock it but still at the stuck settings is should be doing better than this dont you think?

Could you please tell me from your personal experience which driver is currently the best for radeon hd 8870m. According to notebookcheck less powerful radeon hd 8790m outperforms hd 8870m significantly in several new titles like crysis 3, hitman absolution and assassin´s creed 3 (judging from notebookcheck benchmarks). I assume that it´s only due to newer driver version of 8790m (catalyst 13.4 I assume). Would you mind telling me whether games like hitman absolution, crysis3 and newer titles like metro last light are playable at least on medium to high settings and FHD resolution and you could also post some benchmark results. Thanks in advance.

I haven't tested beyond 13.6 beta 3 yet but to me 13.5 beta 3 has been the best to me by far. I played through metro last light at high at a smooth 35 fps with this driver.

It´s good to hear that on this machine runs metro pretty well. Did you overclock your gpu or you run game on stock klocks 775/1125? Anyway, great thanks for letting me know about great performance of hd 8870m. I´m getting it soon.

I did not overclock for metro because the difference was negligible (sorry if that isn't correct english), something like 1-2 fps, no idea why the difference is so little. Normally I would overclock it nonetheless, but because I was playing Metro LL for hours at a time because it's so damn good I didn't want the extra heat without noticeable benefit. On games like bf3 however I OC all the time. Mostly at 900/1300.

Edit: ...and you're welcome :). Fantastic choice!

Hi! I received my ativ book 8 yesterday, so I installed some windows updates, bios and other updates and today I installed catalyst driver and reinstalled intel hd graphics driver. No brightness issues, sleep mode is working but I have mild screen tearing. That´s not the worst. What worries me is irregular hdd noise which is very audible in silent mode. Also when booting from sleep or entering bios fans get pretty loud. When in bios hdd is silent so I set bios settings to default but it didn´t help. Any ideas? It´s very annoying to have such troubles on new computer. I assume that problems are due to new bios because windows updates or graphic drivers sholdn´t cause such troubles. Pls I desperately need help. Any help is veery appreciated.

In what games do you have screen tearing? Which exact driver? HDD noise is always louder when it's active, it's normal, unless it's really loud like grinding or ticking

I don´t have screen tearing in games, only in windows. It seems that intel gpu is not working correctly. I reinstalled both drivers but power consumption is always above 25W when idle so Intel gpu probably isn´t involved. Any idea how to fix it?

I´ve installed both gpu drivers via sw update but intel´s gpu driver isn´t working properly. I have no option to configure switchable graphic. Maybe some setting in Bios is responsible for that. Laptop all the time runs on amd gpu and produces heat and noise. Even silent mode doesn´t help. When silent mode on laptop fans are noisy. When I set silent mode off fans are silent for few seconds and then are noisy again.

I did it and switchable mode works again. However, fun issues are still persisting. For example when I boot windows fans are very noisy but after minute ot two laptop is silent. Unfortunately, not for a long time. Neverthless silent mode is always on laptop changes fan speed all the time. When I boot from sleep hdd is very noisy for few seconds. When I received laptop everything was working correctly. I updated some drivers, bios and I set all settings in bios to defaults. Can be bios responsible for that fan problems? Or maybe some setting in bios but I´ve been looking in bios and didn´t find anything that can be responsible for fan issue. Anyway, thanks for help. At least switchable graphic is working.

    Hey man

Sorry to hear your having trouble. Computers can be very fickle things. I have the 15".

I do find occasionally the clocks drop and rise for no reason in game so I just hit reset in afterburner and close it and open it again. Might have to do it once or twice but eventually I get steady clocks again. I think this is a bug in afterburner. Nothing to serious for me as it doesn't happen to often.

I take it your running hwinfo and checking thermals? I raise my laptop off the desk with 4 small doorstoppers underneath to let air circulate. Keeps temps icey :)

Hi guys. I bought a NP780z5e 15" 8770m from bestbuy today. I first installed every update SW needed. I adjusted all power settings to maximum performance. I uninstalled factory catalyst control center, and installed version 13.10. I then downloaded steam and metro 2033. Laptop is running great so far however whenever I launch metro 2033 I get a d3d error stating metro does not recognize my graphics card and that the game may be unstable because of this. I proceed anyway and at 1920x1080 with preset on med, surprisingly I avg 30fps. Unfortunately, there is "tearing" occurring frequently which gives the game a choppy impression. I'm currently downloading BF3 to see how that goes. So close yet so far.

Yeah strange right, It's mainly when I move my mouse really quickly that I will notice the tearing. I've noticed a few more oddities. Metro 2033 & Crysis 2 launches in windowed mode at 800x600 resolution despite the game settings having full screen activated. Once I change the resolution to 1920x1080 in game I then get full screen. If I change down to 1600x900 I go back to windowed mode, seems I can not scale? Also I noticed my trackpad sometimes works well sometimes doesn't. I get no tearing in crysis 2 or BF3.

Great to hear that you only have the tearing in metro 2033. I have no idea what could cause or solve that, sorry. Regarding the fullscreen issue, have you tried pressing alt+enter?

Initially I was curious about the differences between the 8770m and 8870m. Based on your findings surprisingly there not too far off (You avg about 30fps in BF3 at 1920x1080 on High, I'm avg 27) Yes I agree, hopefully over in that thread they have some suggestions because I'm now noticing tearing in BF3 also.

That was before proper drivers, I now avg around 40fps or even 50 depending on the location in the game.

In what application? Chances are you are running the 8870m but many programs detect the hd4000, which is not running, only when you started the program.

Hello pranktank or anybody else with NP770Z5E-S01
This is at the moment only notebook that has first class battery with Croatian keyboard(NP770Z5E-S01HR) and i am close to buy it.Can you believe it came to Slovenian store before two days and you bought yours before six months. They still dont have it in Croatia but now i believe it will be here very soon.I read also yours and notebookcheck review. You say nothing specific about battery and they say 10 hours web surfing and only 1 hour 53 minutes when running it max.
I dont play games but i need notebook with good battery when i am on sea.
So,please can you help me and tell how many hours do you have (reading in tray) when watching movies(at least with 90% battery).
Also i am streaming movies from web so if you can get close to that scenario it would be great.
Does discrete graphic turn on when watching movies, and if it is,can that be disable so it run only on HD4000

UPDATE:Sorry man i didnt see your notebook is dead because water.Sorry again.

No worries, it's getting fixed :). On power saving mode, while watching movies, I can easily get 8 hours of battery. The discrete gpu does not turn on when watching movies. The battery life is spectacular. More people read and post in the owner's thread. You need to install the Latest DirectX. Here is a link to do that.

Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

Also, I am using AMD Catalyst Beta 1, here is a link to that also

    AMD Catalyst 13.11 BETA1 (13.200.16.0 September 26) Download

Uninstall AMD using the control panel, and press express, wait for it to finish, then reboot, when logged in , right click and make sure the 2 amd options are gone, switchable graphics options and catalyst control center. Next Download the drivers I linked , and install them using the CUSTOM. When it gets to the check box screen, make sure the display driver is being installed.

Also, add the game exe to the switchable graphics list and set it to high performance so you know it is using the AMD card.

Is there a performance boost if you use a more powerful adapter? Did someone test and benchmark it?

    edit:
As I can see there is performance boost if you overclock your hardware and use a more powerful adapter.

13.251.0.0 Driver. I think silent mode is off since fans work quite loudly when playing game. Also i tried to install this one AMD_Catalyst_Mobility_REV_13_351_Modded and this one 13-12_Mobility_Win7_Win8_64_DD_CCC_WHQL_intel_SG_Fix, but whenever i clean drivers, the windows keeps installing same crap over and over, the 13.251 one with date 6.12.2013. Yes power mode is also set to high preformance. After i got the laptop i reinstalled windows and i have windows 8.1 now, because the win 8 that was on had tons of useless crap. I realy want to play this simple games on high preformance

ps: in legaue of legends i only get stuck on 30fps when something is happening and it doesnt matter if everything on very high or very low, same crap every time

update: ok i managed to stop auto install, but no matter what drivers, even beta ones i get, every time i am stuck on same fps. I am getting realy disapointed here that i payed 1200€ for crap like this

Hey guys! i know this has been discussed many times, and ive check through the thread but i cant find the answer im looking for.

It about the graphics driver, im playing Diablo 3 expansion atm and even not on high ive got like 20 fps. And im thinking this high end graphics card should run this game at max in his sleep from what ive read.

My driver atm is the one from SW update: AMD Graphics Driver_9.003.5.0000

Its the only one i could get to run. Ive tried:
    1) the 13.10 beta which wouldnt even install
2), the new 14.3 from the amd website, which would not switch graphics card
    3) LeekMs 14.1 beta fix which would leave feint shadows of other windows and burn the into the screen, also i wasnt sure if it switched correctly.

I really need help on which driver to install and how exactly.
I really doubt its the cpu that slows the comp down, its also getting very hot when playing.

I Hope someone can help, thankyou

EDIT: im still using windows 8

No i didnt say that sorry. I downgraded back to windows 8 because i thought 8.1 had problems with drivers, but its all the same, i am still trying to find best driver, i dont know why i would get 30 fps on game as low as league of legends with any drivers

try this german guys drivers: http://leshcatlabs.net/2013/12/09/leshcats-catalyst-13-9-whql-update-3/
i didnt have any luck with them, but i am starting to think my graphich needs to be repaired

ps: this one is working for me http://leshcatlabs.net/2013/12/09/leshcats-catalyst-13-9-whql-update-3/
