Of course they could, but producing a panel solely for only one model would make it very expensive, I guess.
-
Yes that can be truth and that is something that scares me most. The very big possibility they will putt screen from 700Z5E in it.
We all know some users complained how IR is very noticeable on that 15,6" 1920x1080p screen.
So if i see even one case i would go with x4 and his TN panel, because i cant pass over that especially if the price is 1300(2 average salary here in Croatia). -
Well we can hope that there will be multiple versions of this model, but even so, I would have expected them to showcase their top of the line model.
-
-
Definitely going to check it on Thursday.
-
O man touch ,touch option on 15.6 inch notebook is like saddle on a cow ,there is no point.I can see my self using touch on Yoga 13 but this ,i dont know?I believe they will also sell non touch version. After this 14 hours battery life dont sound convincing to me.

I also like the old form factor but a potential benefit of the slightly larger size is to have two fans along with the two RAM slots and two SSD slots (probably the M.2 format).
They could, but might not have enough confidence in the sales of this model (I fear premium pricing) to justify a big enough order.
John -
It seems like we are not going to see this model for long time.
Guy on cnet talking about first half of year ,so its not good.

Are those computer-generated photos? How is the notebook cooled? I can't see a single vent.dariusf said: ↑Click to expand...

I only connect to two 24" older screens so for me the 1920 x 1080 limitation was ok. Although its nice to have option to go higher. I do hope there will be flat screen option and no touch screen crap. There is no mention in their press release about touch screen.
The Wolfson DAC sounds interesting, got to do some reading.

There is a new Intruder DAC/amp out as well

Hey J.R. Nelson, can you ask one of the representatives if there are any plans to release a suped up version with QHD+, discreet GPU, and 16GB?

How reflective is the screen? I strongly prefer matte, but I think I could live with a low-reflective glare panel.J.R. Nelson said: ↑Let me know if you have any other questionsClick to expand...

I Just found this video http://youtu.be/kbNmEpNJ4GM
It does not look too bad, but it's hard to judge from a video.
And hey, it has a completely closed bottom ( http://youtu.be/kbNmEpNJ4GM?t=1m48s) - I hope that's not only for the preproduction model. Would be perfect for couch and bed surfing

Is this the same story like with Ativ Q or this notebook will see market one day.Thats the most important question. -

- Touchscreen or not?
- One fan or two?
- RAM in slots or soldered?
- One or two SSD slots?
- Cooling system (the photos issued by Samsung show no air vents)?
- Why not just update the previous X4 which occupied a unique size in the market between the 14" and 15.6" models?
- The actual model number (NP9****) so we can keep a look-out for it?
John -

Here is one hit for the NT version of that number, which isn't yet in the SW Update database.
John -
Confused about the screen:
- They say "20% brighter, now 300 nits" in articles. But the ivy bridge version was 400 nits. How bright is the screen?
- Confirm if high viewing angles (IPS)
- Matt or glossy
- Touchscreen? (That may account for increased thickness and extra 0.5 pounds) -

Mehhh, 1,85 kg... this is way off for me... and prob it will cost more than €1500, I guess around €1900/2000

god I hope there is a non-touch matte option. I was over at Microsoft store the other day looking at other options and almost every screen was glossy. It was to a point of not usable with all the store lights etc. I use it on the go like on the train, coffee shop etc. so I think it would be a huge issue. And don't get me started on touch. It drives me nuts when someone touches my monitor
-
This notebook will cost ,and i mean cost at least 1600$ in America. So if i live in America i would grab 900X4c for 900$ without second thought.
9.30 hours of battery life surfing. And 12 hours without wifi and that is something they will have problem to reach with this new one what ever they talk now.
About IPS screen that 900x4c dont have.I have ips screen on my 900X3c and other day when i was on bus i was not happy that hole bus can see what i am doing,so i would be very happy on a day i buy 900x4c
-
NP900X4C is only 1600x900, I have that on my 13" NP900X3C so in my case its no upgrade. I want more desktop space on the go, but 13" at 1920x1080 is way too small. I had that screen on my Sony Z2 (just sold it), and it was painful at times and had to lower the res for longer use or zoom in when surfing. I want 15"+ screen in 1920x1080 res in matte in series 9 form factor
and more ram 8gb minimum
On a side note, I'm buying series 7 with 15.6" screen at 1600x900 to replace kids MacBook
900X4c for $900 where? used? -
Man i cant believe there was on Amazon.com at least 15 stores plus Amazon store with starting price from 950$.
Now there is only one store left .guess how much?1900$
what just happened? It wasnt so long ago, maybe 15 days ago. -
Samsung is possibly the only company having the resources to rival Apple, and yet they fail, by quite a margin. This laptop has just been announced and probably won't be available until april 2014, yet it already looks outdated compared to the first retina macbook pro from... 2012.
15,6 inch, 4 pounds, but no iris graphics, an ULV processor, glossy screen, and probably 4 gigs of ram and 128 gb ssd for the base model. I don't really see the point of the 14 hours battery life for something that big. The wolfson DAC (really?) is the icing on the cake. This is basically the last thing you need in a laptop. -
I see point in every extra minute because i use notebook in non power outlet environment.

Bigger screen = bigger chassis because of the size, and need to put more weight at the front to stop it flipping over backwards. Carbon fibre might be lighter but would need to be thicker to have sufficient rigidity.onesolo said: ↑Mehhh, 1,85 kg... this is way off for me... and prob it will cost more than €1500, I guess around €1900/2000Click to expand...
The cost may not be so horrific. This report suggests only 128GB and 256GB configurations in the near future.
Samsung have to do a careful balancing act between competing with Apple and being a major supplier. Plus they don't want to be accused of copying. So, since Apple is good at getting the basics right then Samsung feel obliged to do some things differently.Daymon909 said: ↑Samsung is possibly the only company having the resources to rival Apple, and yet they fail, by quite a margin. @droyder, I think you are wrong. The new ATIV 8 870Z5G will have a matte panel and it is haswell. It's not a n ultrabook, though, where intel defined a touchscreen as a requirement to get the ultrabook label.
I really hate Intel for that decision. -
That guy on video was only talking about Ativ Books when he said we will see only touch versions(i thank him for that
)
Also about Apple and Samsung.
Samsung notebooks are definitely in Apple class.700z5e is Macbook pro competitor it has 10 hours in battery life while Mac book pro have in Windows half of what it has in OS X.For some of us and i am talking about 50% of market battery life is more important then QHD screens.
I will maybe buy this new model but only if i really see on notebookcheek.com that can really go for 14 hours in battery life surfing because it is most important thing for me beside backlit keyboard and touchpad.
Backlit keyboard is so important for me that it was only reason why Lenovo didnt see my money for first yoga 13.
You see how these laptop manufacturers work, there was no reason not to put backlit keyboard in first yoga, but they left that for second released so we have a good reason to sell ours first under price and then buy again.
Isn't NP900X3G notebook something that was released in 2013?
We can say here what we want about touchscreens and QHD and discrete graphic cards ,but i really doubt Samsung start to sell new notebooks without checking what market really wants. And market is definitely not few of us here on forum
I will tonight just to see how market works go to my neighbor that dont know anything about laptops and ask him what would be his new laptop, what he wants and what he needs.
U s..t i dont have to go,he will say to me that he needs 400$ laptop
See you -
I partly agree with you, and thats due to the fact that every manufacturer has several lines of notebooks. Samsung can and should cater to every market sector when you consider the wide lineup of their notebooks. Series 9 is not your everyday joe notebook. It is supposed to be TOP of the line offer from Samsung and SHOULD be that. For some reason Samsung made a decision to shoot very low with the new models in that line. I'm sure they spend lots of time and analysis to come up to that decision, (or knowing and working in large corporation it has not, I see mind blowing decisions coming down from top management every day, the type of decisions that make you want to bang your head against the wall). Most of us are very disappointed with their decisions regarding the configuration. What I think they should have done is design top of the line series considering real professionals and their real needs. These are the people that will spend that sum of money on a new notebook. Not your everyday joy which as you say wants a sub $500 notebook. A professional regardless of the crap being fad to us, is not going to use a touch screen, that belongs n phones and tablets not notebooks. Most of us will never use the tile screen from win8 as well... most of us will not want a shiny glossy screen smudged with fingerprints and oils impairing us from seeing whats on the screen. Most of us use notebooks for their intended use, as in on the road outside of the house where we have varies lightning conditions and reflections.Unit Igor said: ↑We can say here what we want about touchscreens and QHD and discrete graphic cards ,but i really doubt Samsung start to sell new notebooks without checking what market really wants. And market is definitely not few of us here on forum

What can I say, I'm confused and very disappointed with Samsung decision.droyder likes this. -
I don't know if I agree with that. I've been watching the XPS 15 for a while now and the top of the line model seems to be steadily sold out, further, I'm sure that Apple is selling quite a few top end MBPs without issue. There is DEFINITELY a market for the "uber" ultrabook. And at that level (high RAM, discreet GPU, high res, decent battery, quad core, SSD, and lightweight), seems to be that Dell and Apple are the only choices, which makes the decision easy for anybody looking in that class because of the OS. Was just hoping that Samsung would step into the arena cause I really do like their products. I have a Samsung phone, tablet, and television, the computer was all that was needed to complete the environment.Unit Igor said: ↑We can say here what we want about touchscreens and QHD and discrete graphic cards ,but i really doubt Samsung start to sell new notebooks without checking what market really wants. And market is definitely not few of us here on forum

It's tough for me to see the advantage in this AB9 now that it's 4lbs and undoubtedly over-priced. What's nice about the dell is it comes with both sata and msata bays, so you could have 512GB SSD + 1TB HD. It also has a quad core cpu that is probably twice as powerful as a ulv. Seems like a relatively small tradeoff to me for 0.4lbs. Unfortunately, there is no one-connector docking interface for an obvious desktop-replacement machine and it also stupidly lacks ethernet as you point out. So you would have to plug/unplug power, dp, and a usb3 dock every time. Desk clutter. Lame. Should have had thunderbolt. Hopefully the AB8 is better equipped (and more reasonably priced than the Dell) if it ever shows up.dariusf said: ↑Unfortunately XPS15 is just too heavy for me at 4.4lb, no solid state drive, thats another $ to upgrade unless you go with the top of the line model, no RJ45 port and having hard time with that keyboard, not to mention availability is 3 months from now
