I've read the reviews here and at some places, the comment of the R70 speakers from the review here is alright " The speakers on the laptop are surprisingly clear. It was much louder than a MacBook's speakers; it also preserved the clarity at max volume. The highs and mids are very good, but the bass is disappointing."

However, my unit got very rubbish sound like those 1pound FM radio, it's not very loud and bad mid and 0% bass. MUCH worse than the Vostro 1400 I've got, and even worse than my 4 yr old samsung P20.

I tried with headphone the sound was alright, so is my R70 got inferior speakers???? :(

I don't know if your machine has inferior speakers, but I've never owned a laptop from any manufacturer that had good speakers.

Check if the audio has some pre-defined equalisation options which need to be enabled. Without these the audio on any notebook usually sounds very tinny.

Notebook speakers have a very non-linear response to the audio signal because they are small. So treble is strong and bass is lacking. Most earphones have been engineered to have a more linear response although the bass is usually a bit weak. The audio software (Realtek?) should have a sound manager component where you can change the relative strength of the bass and treble. I forget the exact details on the Samsungs but on my Zepto I have the environment set to "room" and the equaliser set to "rock" and what was originally a horrible audio became acceptable.

thanks John, just played with different settings didn't help. I use winamp and set the equaliser with more bass but didn't help also, as the the speakers just can't produce the sound at that range at all.

I just worry if my computer got defects, so both reviews from here and notebookcheck said the sound was good... hm... aai seem gotta throw some money to buy a speakers, ah yes and the ram.

You need to see what controls are available in the audio hardware's management software. Perhaps another R70 owner can advise on what they are using?
