Where can you buy the 8GB RAM/256GB SSD version and what's the code (NP940X3G-???)
Thanks.
-
AFAIK you can't...yet. No one knows when this spec will ship, if at all.
-
But all of you guys can write and call samsung directly.
The only way to change their "politic" (?) is activism (!). -
That's pretty impressive considering the VM's.
-
switchMODE was totally right. Amazon emailed:
I'll believe it when I have a tracking number, but Monday is better than a month from now.
Also, I guess Amazon's definition of "good news" is relative to the last 24 hours. -
VMs - with 4GB ram ?
I'm curious how many VMs, what OS the guests were and how much ram / drive space you allocated to each ?
Also, how's the heat level and fan noise ? -
Has anyone tried to buy the AB9+ through the MS store? Your results?
Thanks. -
Samsung Store Stratford now has 3 in stock ...
-
Been lurking a week prior to ordering my bn9 plus. Received this from Amazon this AM.
"We're sorry for the delay in shipping the order you placed on August 14, 2013 (Order# 105-...........). We have good news -- the order is now being shipped! You will receive a shipping confirmation with an updated delivery estimate within the next business day, for the following item(s):"Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus NP940X3G-K01US 13.3-Inch Laptop"
Order status on Amazon has switched to "Shipping Now"
So there is hope. I wouldn't suggest anyone else cancel for a few days.
I will try to update if there are changes.
Dave -
Looking forward to your first impressions and some thoughts on the laptop once you get hold of it.
-
i7/8GB hopefully should be coming out soon... the 256GB version is still elusive.

It's useful to have the version number.
However, at the moment, the -K04US isn't listed in SW Update so I suspect that it's not yet in production.

Should be getting my refund soon. Seems like I missed out on the price drop... Man I'm unsure if I should wait for yoga pro 2 and mbpr or get the mba or the ativb9+. I feel like I'll regret it if I don't wait, but I have nothing for school.
-
I'm sort of in the same boat. Was waiting for this but ended up getting the S7. Slick machine but it died on me. Y2P was announced the same day.
Figured I could wait a few weeks... Hopefully they have their stuff together better than Samsung does with this AB9+.
Ridiculous.
Sent from a different Galaxy using Tapatalk 2. -
Were pretty much the same person. I sent back my s7 because of key sticking and a persistent wifi problem and I'm posting this from my galaxy s4. Haha. I'll probably just get the air though.
-
After all that, I just received notification of shipment and it will be at my door tomorrow.
-
I think many of us are desperate for more hands on reviews from forum members before we take the plunge. I'm ready to buy...but I wanted to wait until a few others weigh in other then the initial comments from kitejumping.
-
Wow, hahah.. cancelled too soon from Amazon. I ended up cancelling from Samsung as well after they backordered mine yesterday. A Retina Pro 13 is on the way instead. Oh well! Soldered 4gb is a deal breaker.
-
All hopes are now on Yoga 2 Pro, I played with the first device in-store and it looked very neat, with a decent screen this time round I am pretty certain this will be the winner. Unfortunately for AB9+ and Samsung, its too little too late, the 4GB is a deal breaker for me after using 8gb+ machines for most of my time with PCs (I work as a SysEngineer).
-
Some of you guys are funny. How can the B9+ be too little too late when you are comparing it to other machines that aren't even available yet? The base model has only been out for one day, and higher specs will come out at some point. Samsung always has a higher end Series 9. Waiting for an Asus ultrabook I can understand, but settling for an Acer or Lenovo? Seriously?
-
You can't go wrong with the new MBA. I bought one for my wife and it is an excellent, highly customizable machine. Yes the screen pales in comparison but it is by no means bad. I just personally don't like iOS and desire touchscreen functionality
-
I was running Ubuntu and winxp, although I think I might switch xp to 7 or 8, 1gb ram each, usually would only run one at a time although I can run both at once. I also installed and could play grid 2 1920x1080 on ultra low settings, I was pretty impressed that it ran considering the last laptop I had with integrated graphics couldn't do much. The only time I have heard the fans spin up is when running the windows performance benchmark and playing grid 2.
If I could change something about it, it would be the charging port, I kind of wish it was one of those magnetic ones as I am not sure how long it is going to last.
The screen is awesome, I have been running it 3200x1800 all the time and usually just zoom in webpages and other stuff (although text is readable at 100% zoom you have to move your head closer to the screen sometimes to read it. If you use it from a reclined position on your lap its really hard to read text at the native resolution / dpi. There is actually a windows 8 message that comes up every so often warning you that the screen resolution is too high, hahaha. I think it might have been set to 1080p when I first turned it on. The glossy screen is definitely noticeable in sunlight, but I find myself using the touch features of windows 8 way more than I thought I would and I don't think I would go back to a matte screen now. Also, there is a magnet that holds the lid closed.
Also, three finger / four finger touch was disabled initially, had to enable that to allow for forward / back browsing (three finger left and right) and the alt-tab popup menu (three finger down). A four finger swipe up shows the desktop. Apple needs to update their retina pro sales page, as they are no longer selling the highest resolution laptop available.
Also, when browsing the web and stuff, both fans are off and it is silent. -
Why would anybody cancel an Amazon pre-order? They do not charge or even pre-authorize your card before the item is shipped. Anyway, mine will also arrive tomorrow. Will finally know if PC Pro's view on the display is true for all units or not.
-
Anybody seen this video, she clearly states 8gb ram and 256ssd. Is she just wrong? Or does this acutally exist? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlpQz-i2woI
-
She seems to be reading this right off of the spec card to the right of the machine
-
The 8gb and 256ssd does exist - they're just taking their sweet time releasing it.
For more clarification, see the attached picture from IFA 2013.switchMODE and Ryano89 like this. -
I paused the video at the 1:33 mark and you can clearly read the specs...8gb ddr and 256ssd This is definitely got to be a model that will be coming shortly...I hope.
-
Funny how it states Windows 8.1 even way back then. I am still blaming MS for the delays.
-
Dual Fans confirmed? Can you take a picture?
Are you getting curious about popping that back lid off? -
Great. My Amazon order is arriving tomorrow and the order from ABT is arriving on Monday.
-
+1
Take it off, baby! Take it off! Having said that, I'd be scared to take mine off - so no pressure.
Still I want the RAM soldering confirmed by visual inspection. I want to believe they didn't.
Also, why is no one talking about the Sony Flip as an alternative? Are we concerned about the Wifi and fan issues carrying over? I think it's a lot sexier looking than the Yoga. The 13" weighs the same as this one. Still, I can't find an estimated release date anywhere... so maybe that's why. -
Has anyone here opened a previous series 9 before? Is anything glued together when you take out the 10 screws underneath? Have they historically had any kind of sticker or detection system that invalidates your warranty if you open it? Considering opening it just to find out about upgrading to an 802.11ac card. Dual fans are confirmed on the 4gb i5 one, they can also spin up independently of each other as needed. Currently right now while browsing the internet both are stopped.
I wonder if something like this would work: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Network...etooth/dp/B00DMCVKMU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top I wasn't expecting ac cards to be so cheap. -
My Ativ Book 9 Plus is slated to come in on Sep. 17th. I will open it up day 1 and post pictures. I am not entirely sold on a non 256GB, 8GB model but really want to try the thing out. I really need something portable for coding and CAD work. It's between the Zenbook Infintiy and the Ativ Book 9 Plus at the moment. The only problem I have with the Flip is the lack of QHD or QHD+ res. on the 13", or 14" model. 15" feels a tad too large for me yet I will still consider it. The wifi issues are mostly a chipset issue and not really Sony's, Acer's, or Apple's fault. It is almost entirely Intel's fault. I won't be surprised at all if the Ativ Book 9 Plus or Yoga 2 have a similar issue for a short time. The wifi issues do seem fixed by now though. I had the Vaio Pro for a month and only experienced the wifi issues for 2 days(because I did didn't care to try to fix it until then. It took all of 5 minutes for me to fix). They are mostly an easy fix anyways and blown way out of proportion. The fan noise is real on the Vaio Pro but not any louder than the likes of the Zenbook Prime UX31A-DH51. The only heat that could readily be felt was on the bottom left corner near the fan but that was, at most, warm to the touch, not hot by any means. My one real gripe with the Vaio Pro for my usage scenario was the lack of a QHD(+) screen. Mine was the 4GB, I5, 128GB 13" model and I regularly used 3.2 to 3.7GB of RAM with what I consider to be minimal use. I require no less than 8GB of RAM for on the go computing and 16 on my desktops. As far as the PC Pro review, Dave Stevenson is a notorious Apple fanboy with no credibility on his reviews or blog posts. I am somewhat insulted they would have someone like him write a review on the ATVB9+ in the first place. Expert reviews and the other one just look like glorified hands on articles paid for by Samsung than an actual review of thorough and intense use of the product.matthias2468 likes this.

Update: Received tracking # from Amazon this afternoon and delivery is set for 11/16. Shows it's being shipped from Breinigsville PA. if that means anything.
As far as me opening the back and checking the Ram, I will admit it now, i'm to big a wimp to risk it. I will load Office Pro 13 and Windows 8 Pro on it the first night and maybe I can provide info on that.

The really sad thing is I had my preorder on Amazon 2 days before it was ever posted on this site(the original preorder attempt, not the one that began on the 18th) yet I still have to wait until at least the 15th for it to ship yet several other people are already having theirs shipped.
-
ing samsung amazon don't even ship to new zealand. nz won't have this until mid 2014 they are that ing useless. then a freight forwarder is gonna be like, how much is your package? next minute 200usd to ship to me...

Here's so info about opening up previous versions of the Series 9 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...third-party-msata-upgrades-2.html#post8661518

Same here, however the amount was deducted from the credit card so I assume that this should be delivered any day from now. I have also complained to Amazon and they have upgraded the shipping method to 1 day for free. Now it's only a question if the SSD can be upgraded - that would be the first thing I would do.

If it's a metal base then the only challenging part is unclipping the joints in the plastic over the antennae between the hinges (although Samsung might have put the antennae back into the display). That needs rotating of the unscrewed base as far as it will easily go then a bit of wiggling and prising (starting at one side). Finally there's a ripping noise and the base is off. If the base is plastic then it's probably clipped on each edge and will have to be prised apart, starting at one of the front corners.
Once inside, in addition to checking the number of fans and whether the RAM is soldered, there's the SSD size and whether the WiFi is on a card or on-board and the location of the antennae.
Plenty of photos would be welcome.

For UK people who are waiting to pull the trigger Lambdatek has some stock today (10SKUs in total)
NP940X3G-K01UK Samsung BK9PLUS CI5-4200 13.3T 4GB 128SSD W8
I would not settle for anything (Acer, Samsung or Lenovo etc) unless the product is up there for the money. I will go to the store and see what the device is like in person (Acer was a no-no, you cant auto dismiss Lenovo either (they are after all the most profitable tin-maker)) It is still disappointing that AB9+ the base model is 1300+GBP in UK, I would most likely pull the trigger on the 8gb version but the fact that Yoga2Pro can be flipped into tablet is something that is very appealing for me. -
I been watching this thread for a while in the hopes of someone mentioning the 8gb ram 256gb ssd, I can't justify spending £1300 on the base model.
The NP900X3E-A01UK from Amazon was about £1260 and it has better specs than the latest model.

Agreed. I'm blaming them for all the haswell delays. That "update" broke a lot of software for some reason. But maybe we're ready to move on from ivy now, if enough of the stock has sold.
-
woo woo! When i ordered through Samsung.com I left my amazon pre-order in place "just in case" and now, like others:
Thank you for shopping with us. We thought you'd like to know that we shipped your item, and that this completes your order. Your order is on its way, and can no longer be changed. If you need to return an item from this shipment or manage other orders, please visit Your Orders on Amazon.com.
I've now called samsung and cancelled my pending order with them. -
i'm betting the tear down procedure is similar to this:
How to Open Up Samsung Series 7 Ultra for Upgrades - YouTube
(though the insides are probably quite a bit different) -
I'm sure you don't mean 11/16.
-
I couldn't find a size 0 Phillips screwdriver to open it, but I ordered one off amazon along with one of those 7260 802.11ac 2x2 intel cards and a minidrive microsd adapter. If it is upgradable to ac i'll be doing it when it arrives.
-
Any UK users know any retailers with the laptop in stock for immediate dispatch? Missed the 10 that were available on Lambdatek and need to order one before I go back to uni ... stress.
-
Crossing my fingers for upgradeable ram! I wish you luck kitejumping

Have they fixed the drivers on that card yet? Seems anybody who has one in a new Haswell laptop (Sony at least) has tons of problems with them not staying connected.
