Here's the NP940X3G-K05CA. i5 +256GB. Not yet available but I suspect it will appear within very few weeks.

SW Update's database lists NP940X3G-K01CA, -K04CA, -K05CA and -K06CA but I can find no other info about -K04CA and -K06CA.

Do you think any retail stores will carry it or that they'll only be available online?

Check with the retailer if they will ship north of the border. Also check if you will get hit by a tax bill on the import.

A significant number of Canadians prefer the US models because Samsung put a bilingual keyboard on the Canadian versions.

i wouldn't say it's a steal at all. it's the entry level i7, only comes with HD4400, and no AC card.

all the hype is due to the QHD+ screen, but there's a lot of headaches that come along with it.

$1500 would be a better price for this machine.

    Hi there!

I was looking for a "touch" version of the previous Ativ Book 9 and, of course, landed here.
As many commented before, the resolution is scary. I understand Windows 8.1 manages to do a good upscaling on non-DPI aware apps, but it is not clear how Samsung's own tool helps on that.
Also, I was wondering how the machine (visually) performs if you lower the resolution, since seems a good compromise while the software catches up with the technology.

    Anyone mind to clarify? Thanks!

Well, I'm on page 130 now, and as I understand, Samsung's tools allow you to put the display on FHD resolution, but I'm still confused about this: has Samsung's tools a propietary implementation of the screen scaling, or is just a nice configurator that works using Windows 8.1 own capabilities?

On Windows 8.1, you use Windows to scale, not Samsung's tools.

Oh, thanks! I was confused because I saw Lisa Gade using the tools to switch sizes: Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus Review - YouTube but didn't check of that was Win 8.1 or 8.0.
Anyway, that means that to archive FHD you only need to change the resolution on display settings?

Yes, just change to 1080P for FHD or 1800P for QHD. Adjust DPI too to your liking.

It appears the K05US may be the Microsoft Store's specific model. It does appear to include a TPM chip which I don't think the K04US has. Good news for those of us that require it!

Has anyone successfully run Windows 7 on these? Sorry if this has been asked/answered.....I am late to the part so just read the last 20 pages.

Before you clean wipe to install Windows 7, run the Samsung SW updater program and then use the export function to save the stuff to a USB drive. The reason being is that not all the Win7 drivers can be easily found. In fact, I think there were 1 or 2 I just absolutely could not find on my own; however, the the drivers that were downloaded and exported through the Samsung SW program work just fine in Windows 7.

Please tell what SSD to buy to upgrade my 128 gb, please provide link to website with such SSD.

I know that is m.2 format but can't find where to get it.

    I am buying a 256gb in 2014.

The NP940X3G-K02UK is listed in a few places such as this. It seems to still be a few weeks away.

More importantly, while the listing shows the 256GB SSD, it also shows only 4GB RAM. However, the price isn't much more than the 128GB version.

    It's also a I5/4200U opposed to i7/4500U.

I've been looking at this from Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus NP940X3G-K04US NP940X3G-K04US B&H Photo
It's less than £1400 with delivery and VAT already included (2-3 day delivery), I suspect this price is cheaper than the UK one when it get's released.

I would get this however not in stock, only places like Amazon.com, Samsung.com and Microsoft.com has them, would have to use a service such as Bundlebox but too much of a hassle.

I've been looking at the Ativ Book 9+ i5/128ssd. Best buy has these two versions:

    NP940X3G-K01US - $1,399.99 - Windows 8, 1yr parts and labor warranty.

    NP940X3g-K02US - $1,584.99 - Windows 8 Pro, 3yr parts and labor warranty.

Are these the only differences between the two?
With Windows8, is Pro important to have?

    Thanks,
    Rich

    hi all
i decided to order np940x3g-k01 today.
is there any one of you the owners that would stop me buying it.
i was waiting till today to be released of sony vaio flip 13A or asus ux301la. but in turkey all the models came very late and rarely also.
there is not K04 model of AB9+ released.

so that i need an ultrabook. and decided ab9+

    there is a last question on my mind that one of owners in turkey wrote in a forum site that;
when use device with battery power only, display was flickering
it seems normal but yellow colors on screen was faded.

is that normal, error or is it about display brightness?
i could not noticed that on test devices in stores under very bright store lights.

I would note that a NP940X3G-K02TR version features in Samsung's software database although I can't find it on Google (which probably means it is a few weeks away). It could have a better specification such as a 256GB SSD and possibly 8GB RAM.

There is some discussion about the display colour. Most likely in the NP940X3G owners' lounge.

    k02 means win8 pro

i7 and 256ssd features come with k04 model and again k05 will include win8 pro

Have you found out that all those versions are proposed for Turkey?

K02-UK has an i5 with 256GB SSD. History shows that the specification for any version number is country-specific although, if there are limited options offered by the factory then some countries will have the same version number and specification.

What is the brand of wifi that's included default on this lappy? Is it smooth and stable? Is the fan quieter than the Vaio Pro? Does it have any flexing? Is the display grainy or very vivid and clear?

Like liquidfushionv (and presumably many others here in the UK) I have been waiting many months for the 4th generation i7 8GB/256GB to be released in the UK. Does anyone know the cause of the delay and more importantly when its likely to be released (if at all). Posting the question directly on Samsungs website has proved to be a pointless exercise!

Amazon UK thinks the NP940X3G-K02UK will show up on 10th January. However, it is only i5 + 4GB + 256GB.

If you want 8GB then the NP900X3G is expected soon (my guess is around the end of January - it's not yet in the SW Update database).

Is there any word on the i7 8/256gb model, not the i5 model?

Does anybody know if Samsung has an international warranty if I were to order it from the US since they already have it there? Samsung's responses are vague and clear as mud.

At present, Samsung UK has got only the low spec models on order. Perhaps they will incrementally bring in better options while Samsung Germany gives customers more options at the same time.

All Samsung notebooks have a 1 year international warranty.

Annoyingly I was in the US in Oct/Nov when this was released there but stock was very limited and wasn't sure I could cope with the subtle differences of the US keyboard layout (I tried this with a MacBook Air a few years back and sold it on after a couple of weeks due this!). Does the German keyboard layout differ from the UK?

Thanks John that's useful to know. It's just a shame Samsung doesn't appear to value the UK market for its high end machines as much as some other countries. Not sure I can't wait around a couple more months on the off chance they release the i7 version in the UK.

I'm currently using an Indian NP900X4C because it has a far better spec than any X4C released in UK. However, it also has the US keyboard and I'm thinking of reverting to my UK X4C once I can get hold of a high capacity Samsung EVO mSATA SSD.

I can see 8GB RAM as being a reason for wanting a better spec but you will need to run benchmarks to see the difference between the i5 and i7 CPUs. Another reason why I'm thinking of reverting to my slower X4C is that it is cooler and quieter. The i5-3317U and the i7-3537U may both have the same thermal design power but the i7 is at the limit. However, Haswell may be better than Ivy Bridge in this respect.

I think I'm going to take advantage of the strong £/$ rate and buy the US i7 version in the absence of any confirmed UK release. I wonder if it's possible to buy a replacement keyboard part direct from Samsung (i.e. from the UK i5 model) then open up and switch the two?

Just out of curiosity where and how will you buy it from the US and have it shipped to the UK?
I am in the same position as you however I am used to the US keyboard as I've used a US Keyboard laptop in the past without any annoyances. (The only symbol missing was £ on the keyboard but shortkeys lite did the trick).

I'm also considering getting it from the US but would like the cheapest option, preferably no middleman like bundlebox or myus

I have a friend who's going out there (US) on holiday in January so potentially I'll get it delivered to his hotel. Before sales tax(s) the sterling equivalent works out at around £1,100.00 which is pretty good. (Order from Washington and there is no sales tax!) Obviously I'll need to factor in the cost of a UK mains adapter.

Of course all you need is a $5 adapter like this, since the power supply that comes with the laptop is universal.

Excaliber shipped a Samsung mSATA SSD to someone on this forum so they may be willing to ship notebooks.

To swap the keyboard you need a complete new keyboard / keyboard surround / palmrest unit.

Carrying (strictly speaking smuggling) it into UK avoids the shipping cost and the 20% VAT that would be levied upon entry.

The mains adaptor itself is designed for international use with just about any mains power used on this planet (it's been that way since notebooks started travelling). If you haven't got a suitable spare power cable lying around then chop off the US plug and fit a UK one.

Having done a little more research on the CPUs I may have been a bit blinded by the i7 label. On paper at least, the only difference between the i5/i7 is 0.2GHz in Clock speed (0.4GHz Turbo) and 1MB in Cache. Both have 2 Cores and 4 Threads (I had naively assumed the i7 had 4 Cores). How that transforms in reality I'm unsure. So on reflection I may lose the i7 snobbery and take the plunge on an i5 once the upgraded RAM and SSD is released in the UK in Jan.

Unfortunately, it appears that the -K02UK has the 256GB SSD but only 4GB RAM so you might need to wait for another version of the NP940X3G to show up, by which time the NP900X3G-K01UK with 8GB + 256GB + non-glossy (non-touch) HD display + less weight may be a cheaper alternative if you are willing to make do with reduced battery time. It's listed here but I would add a month to the ETA.

Restock date: 03/01/2014, that's very ambitious of them

    That's why I said add a month.

That version is not yet in the SW Update database (which is an indication of it going into production).

BHP has finally got it in stock and I've put my order in to have it shipped to the UK including VAT, customs ect (all prepaid) so all I have to do is sign for it.
Hopefully it will go smoothly, considering it costs £1356 all in, not a bad price as I suspect it will cost more in the UK once released.
Definitely a cheaper and better choice than the UX301LA costing at £1500 for the same spec!!

Fingers crossed I'll get it before next Friday.
