i'm confused why it says the stuff it says in the bottom left?

    FHD recommended for windows 8?

Are they shipping this with 1080 as default resolution in windows? What happened to scaling? I guess it will be a pre-8.1 release. Also, there could be a press release today or tomorrow at Samsung U.S. News based on this graphic. Seems like they're pushing it out

Info such as this does not suggest upgradeable RAM. I doubt that Samsung would provide a socket and leave it empty on the launch model. Furthermore, RAM sockets take up more board space and add to the thickness compared to soldered RAM.

So they're still testing their laptops with MobileMark 07? That's a shame.. I wonder what the battery life _really_ is...

i forgot the part where I will have to buy before the end of august. but yes, asus seems to have done a good job with that. I'm just worried that it will be too expensive (256 ssd in base model, I only need 128 really)

Ahaha ultra mobility ahahah, they got to be kidding... ok, 1,4 kg is ok, it's light, but it's a lot more heavier compared with 2012 model!!! it's almost the wheight of the S9 15" and has the same wheight that most asus zenbooks from 2012!!!
Sony Pro has the same wheight that S9 13" 2012 had... #facepalm

Hmm pretty sure that the 13" has ram soldered like the 2012 had... only the 15" was not soldered (one stick at least I guess...) but I doubt that a 15" is going to be release this year... #bigerror

I agree, gaining weight is not a good thing. Most likely they needed the larger battery to power that overspeced screen, it is a much larger cell than Sony, so should provide longer operation. But if they had forgotten about touch and added haswell to the current model, you'd have a lightweight, sleek machine, with very good battery life.

Since this laptop is taking too long to release I have decided it will be the del xps 12 with 8 GB of ram or the Acer aspire S7 392. Stupid Samsung and Asus for being so slow.

The Acer aspire s7 392 can be bought from new egg and amazon.com so it is ready for me to buy. The dell xps 12 with haswell can also bought from dell.com. I need has well because better battery life is needed for me, I can't live with my ivy bridge ux31a touch because of the fan noise and battery life.

Went to BB last night looking again at the ativ book 9 13" Then I realized that I had to have that matte screen. The new plus will be gloss, and it will add a half pound of weight. Which IMO, kills it. At 2.5 lbs the current version is truly something special. I realize they may eventually put a haswell in this and hopefully they do. But I can't wait anymore. This one is supposed to get around 6 hours of battery life. I can live with that and the i7 is clocked at 2.0 and turbo up to 3.1 I believe. I'm not a gamer so the ivy bridge 4000 graphics should be enough. I ended up buying the one on amazon for 1500 which gives it 256 GB ram. The display did it for me. Its drop dead gorgeous. Even compared to the mac book retina, I'd take the matte panel of the book 9 any day of the week.

I have had my eye on that one too. I am still on the fence. I don't care about battery because it is usually plugged in and I really don't care about touch in a conventional laptop.

Samsung did some amazing things with the elan track pad on ativ book 9 13". W8 gestures and everything work almost to perfection when I used it. Its mac like goodness here. Its really important to have a very good track pad if you lose touch. I think over the years they keep working on the drivers and its really good now. Won't miss touch with a track pad like that. Even the texture of the track-pad feels really nice. I was really debating if I should get the series 7 ultra with touch and better port selection. But everytime I looked at the 9's matte screen I knew that was something special. And different. I have enough glossy devices laying around. Anyone who says Samsung copied the MB air is full of it. The series 9 is so much more then an air IMO. Much nicer. Probably the only device outside Apple that can claim that. Anyway, can't wait to get it tomorrow. My search is over.

I might as well copy paste your whole post because I did the exact same thing: Waited for the Plus, impatiently checked out the 9 at best buy, fell in love with the matte screen, bought it on amazon the same night. I've had the laptop for about a week now and am 100% happy with my purchase.

You can't enjoy the Book 9 Plus's resolution when so few programs outside of the OS support it, and the touch screen creates a finger print heaven mucking up your view of the screen.

My thoughts exactly. My question is whether Samsung will continue with this model once the new ativ b 9's are released. Either way can we expect a significant discount coming on the NP900X3E's when they do?

Probably not. That $1499 for the i7/256 is about as cheap as you ever see Samsungs. There will be some refurbished units you will find much cheaper but I can't see new ones dropping much. It is still very desirable for people who don't care about touch and want a matte display.

Anyone's guess. I did notice that on the 15" model, with 256 GB of ram the windows seven model cost even more then the W8 model now ( I think that is a discontinued model). My guess these are not overly produced like the MS surface RT lol. Mostly sold by third party vendors on Amazon or Amazon themselves. I think the NP900X3E originally retailed for almost 1900 when it first came out. 1500 sounds like allot. But with the build quality and the crazy good screen it has and 256GB its not overly priced like a MB Pro IMO. Now if they discontinue the 2.5 pounder and matte model I would think this will actually rise in price. If they come out with a similar replacement, but with a haswell upgrade, then I would expect it may drop in price. But possible not if they charge more for the haswell model. But the current pricing that I have read is the super hi resolution, 3 lb plus at 1500 dollars with only 128 gigs of ram. So the 256 GB model would be at least 1700 at that point. Its anybodies guess at this moment in time. Personally, I feel if there will be any discounting it will be on the 128 GB models because there is probably 10 to 20X more of those around.. Its also the one Best Buy sells. Once they get the newer haswell they may discount?

If you do decide to buy the NP900X3E I would just get the 256GB model at amazon being the 128 GB model with i7 and slightly slower cpu runs 1300. I mean at that point, you can't even update the SSD yourself for 200 and you loose out on the faster 2.0 cpu. Samsung does sell the 128GB i5 for 1100 dollars. I think the main difference it has painted sides instead of the two tone with the polished aluminum on the sides. I came close to buying that one. But anyway to put it, 128 is just not enough. With SSD prices dropping I don't understand why PC Oems make it so hard to find and order 256 models. In some cases, they don't offer SSD at all which makes no sense at this point in time. SSD should be available option on everything at market. In that regard, Apple is ahead of the curve.

I think what that might be saying is that they are all QHD+ but you won't be able to invoke the higher resolutions unless you are running windows 8.1 and that gives them the ability to release it before 8.1 becomes available.

I am been a big fan of the series since using my NP900X3A-A03US for the past couple years and could not wait to grab the new AB9+... Though I have to say the latest post have been cooling down my motivation. The delay in availability, 4GB/126GB restriction, as well at the .5lbs additional aren't helping to make its case, I would not want to buy a new laptop on the previous gen like the NP900X3E but what other serious alternative are out there?
I like the Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 and the review seems positive, the light weight of the Sony VAIO Pro SVP13215PXS is interesting but Sony high price isn't really warranted in my opinion.

Suspiciously, SSD prices have hardly budged in the past year.

$1400 for the lightest 13" with haswell and 8GB seems pretty reasonable. Unfortunately, it does not come with a matte option in many regions. I encourage everyone to boycott the AB9, maybe low sales will convince samsung to put out a practical S9 successor.

hmmm. I was actually thinking of going for the 128. My thinking is that its always going to be a game of cat and mouse with storage needs so why not just use an NAS to store everything (assuming you keep your laptop at home most of the time)? regarding the processor speed - i see that the 256GB X3E has a 2.0GHz i73537u processor and the 128 has a 1.9 i73537u - is this really going to make any noticeable difference. Other than these things are there any differences? Agreed that 1300 vs 1500 wld make sense to go for the 256 but im hoping the 128 model will come down closer to 1k when the 9 plus is released...

If you go in and read tthe Sony forum on the Pro you will see almost everybody has problems with WiFi and loud fan noise..both of those have ruled it out for me. Maybe they can fix it with drivers but my experience with that has been if you have the problems to begin with you probably always will. My only issue with the Acer is the 5 row keyboard. If you do anything that requires dedicated FN keys that keyboard will make it difficult.

Problem is out of the box it only has 68GB. You can uninstall the adobe elements trial and some other bloatware and maybe put the backup partition on a USB stick. All that might free up another 12 gigs or so giving you a whopping 80 gigs. If it was like OSX, maybe since that gives you almost 100 gigs out of the box. W8 is a bloated pig. IMO, 128 just does not cut it. And remember, the SD card sticks out on this device. Otherwise, you might be able to buy a 128 sd card class 10 and stick it in there and forget about it. But the sd card slot has a little door that flops out and dangles to side making it more a temporary feature IMO. Plus a class 10 128GB sd card will run about 100 dollars and that still going to be much slower then the internal SSD. It all depends what you want to use it for. If you want to install office, and some other apps and maybe keep some movies in local storage that 128 will run out really quickly.

As far as any difference between 1.9 and 2.0? I would not think so in everyday use. But if you are doing anything cpu intensive it might shave a bit of time off (transcoding video etc..) But it adds a little bonuse to let Samsung do the SSD upgrade instead of going out and buying it and installing which is a bit of a pain. People on you tube who have bought that model feel its good money spend. Lisa on mobile tech review feels its worth the money. Its not over priced for what it is. Just go to the best buy and see how that device sticks out from all the others. Even the MB air looks cheap next to the Book 9. But I understand, its still allot of money. As you can probably tell, I'm a bit excited since UPS will be delivery it in the next 3 hours :)

I agree that 128GB isn't enough unless the user has minimal storage needs. Perhaps they expect us to keep everything in a "cloud" on the assumption there's a permanent fast internet connection.

Unless Samsung have upgraded the chip controlling the SD card slot it is slow USB storage and not a recommendable way of expanding storage.

I recall only one report of a 256GB U100, and that was last year. the 256GB is most likely Liteon or Samsung.

They didn't say that was when they would carry it, they said that was when it will be released..much worse if accurate.

Its got the touch display so that would be just over 3 lbs. Have never heard anything about replacing current 2.5 lb device with a non touch haswell or with FHD matte etc.. Anyway, got my ativ book 9 FHD 256 SSD a few hours ago. Setting it up. I really like it. Got the MS BT mouse as well and using that which has gesture support and on/off start menu button. Touch pad is very good but still getting used to W8. Its going to take some customization to get it to my liking. As it ships, its crap.
