Hi all. First post here! :)
I'm looking to buy a new laptop for study and gaming and I stumbled upon the Samsung Ativ Book 6. The version offered here in the Netherlands that I like is with:
    - Intel i5 3230m dual core CPU
    - AMD 8850m GPU
    - 8 GB RAM
Does anyone has this machine or one similar in terms of specifications? If so, can you recommend this or would you advice me something different?
One of the main reasons I like this one is the reasonable thin design with the powerful graphics card.
    Looking forward to your input!

I think you will find that the ATIV Book 6 has much in common with the Book 8 (formerly the 2013 Series 7 Chronos) except for lower display resolution and lower battery capacity. That is the case with this UK Book 6. Carefully check the specs for your version. 1366 x 768 resolution @ 15.6" is, in my opinion, a serious deficiency for general usage.

I strongly agree with this. Those pixels are going to be large and not much real estate for that size screen.

That's the only reason I'm doubting to buy this. However, all the other specs are quite good. On top of that, I'm using a 15.6" 1366*786 laptop right at this moment and I never used anything 'better'.

I've also looked at the all the other ativ's, but the faster ones are above my budget...

Okay, I get your point, but there is not much out there if you want a good GPU and a fast CPU in a nice package. In any case, I can't seem to find one... :S

There's probably a bit of marketing behind this: Good specs except for the display but if you want more pixels then you have to get the somewhat more expensive Book 8. However, search around for the NP770Z5E (non-touch) and NP780Z5E (touch). These are the predecessor to the Book 8 and are being phased out (eg this in UK).

Okay. Looked at the NP770Z5E (non-touch) and NP780Z5E (touch) model, but those too are too expensive. I've now found a MSI GE60-2OC. It has a 1080p screen and all the things I liked about the Samsung. However, the battery life on this thing is not that great. 2-3 hrs. In any case, I think I'm going with that one. It's not a Samsung, but it does checks the marks. Battery could have been better, but with the huge performance you're getting, I'm willing to take this only concession.
