I agree. And the comments in the HP 1000 review already prove it.

I'll make a poll so people can vote.

A Heads Up for US Buyers -- Buy.com is advertising the blue Samsung NC10 with a $75 rebate if you buy with PayPal.

    http://enews.buy.com/cgi-bin5/DM/y/npRt0LC2Hz0F3M0CUkO0G5

The only caveat is that they have also incidentally raised the price to $525, so ultimately it comes down to $450 after rebate. Still decent compared to other brand-name retailers, but not the full effect of the $75 rebate.

Hello, Samsungs sold in the US only have a US warranty.

"This limited warranty begins on the original date of purchase and continues through the Limited Warranty Period and is valid only on Samsung products purchased from Samsung or a Samsung authorized reseller and used in the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia (unless you enter into a separate written agreement with Samsung).

Here is a link to their policy: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/r...2500&disp_nm=NC10-14GB&mType=&dType=D&vType=R

US spec NC10 may have US warranty only but the sticker on my UK spec NC10 clearly tells me it's an international warranty.

I hadn't previously read all that colourful sticker, but yes, it says (near the right) "International warranty". See the photo in my review:

I don't have my Eee 702 on me, but I can tell you that it's most assuredly smaller for obvious reasons. I could pocket the Eee in a large winter coat. That's definitely not doable on the NC10 but you get a lot more for the money.

I'm still running the stock Atheros card. So can't help you.

The Atheros card works bad with my Sitecom router though. I'm trying to install the old driver from here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/115677

But I can't get it installed. Windows refuses to install it because it's older. And when I manually de install the current driver it automatically installs it before I get a chance to install the older driver.

    Any ideas?

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I was trying to picture it in my head by using a tape measure to compare the NC10's spec size to my Eee 701. I wish I could see one in person, but no stores stock these.

That's what has been keeping me from buying so far. I knew it was a bit bigger and it doesn't seem like much, but I like the size of the 701, it's just perfect for me. I was torn between the NC10 or getting an 8.9" netbook that would be similar in size to the Eee 701. I don't mind the keyboard on the Eee 701, it's usable for what I need, but you're right about what you get for the money, and that brings me back to the beginning again.

Just got my nc10 and have a hopefully simple to answer question. I have copied some of my dvds to vob file format. What is the best way to actually play these on the netbook. This is pretty major as this is primarily why I bought this because i am always commuting on planes. Do I need extra software or can they be played through the included media player? I want to keep them in vob format to keep the best possible quality. Thanks

    VLC Will play the VOB's.
A free program, AutoGK, will transcode them into AVI. You could make movies quite small in size, under 1 GB. And not really be able to tell the difference on this screen resolution.

    Hi guys,
I had my NC10 for about 2 weeks, not problem what so ever.
I need some advice on some accessory for the NC10.
First of all since I am literally a certified ignorant in the IT world, I need to understand what 1GB of RAM means, of course I have googled to find out the actual meaning and I did find many explanations, but my brain does not register.
Say that I want to download a movie of about 700 mb, would that allow me to download it? how many of those movies can I download at once with 1GB of RAM? I know to most of you those questions sounds really stupid.
Back to the accessory, I checked on the link of summynetbook which gives some suggestions of compatible accessory for the NC10, what I want to know is, would the Bluetooth Stereo Headset with A2DP & AVRCP + Bluetooth USB Adapter with EDR compatible with NC10? I will use it to listen movies and music wirelessly. also would this Logitech V450 Nano Cordless Laser Mouse
    good for the NC10?
And I am thinking to remotetly access the NC10 while I am out, any advice of a free software?
One last question for the time being, Since I am thinking to use the NC10 once in a while for all day, how would that work? I mean by plugging the cable in it would'nt damage the battery?
Sorry for the many questions, I hope anyone of you can understand what I am talking about, otherwise don't hesitate to ask.
    Thanks in advance.

Assuming that you are not violating copyrights, you can download an incredible amount of movies at the same time. 1GB will not be a limitation.

Many thanks. Installing that driver made my wireless problems disappear!

    Link: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/115677

The guy sitting next to me in the coffeeshop was a network specialist. He said installing an old driver would never solve my problems. He was wrong! :)

the click button below my touch pad rocks back and forth- from the left and right. It gives quite a bit without actually clicking until you apply enough pressure. Ive never seen this before and just wondering if its normal or not for the netbook?

Just got mine and absolutely cannot connect to any wireless networks - when I open up the wireless properties I can see the SSID blinking on and off. I also tried the older driver and that did not do anything for me.

Hopefully it's a card issue and nothing else. Just ordered a replacement off Amazon. I do like the rest of what I see but if the replacement is bad as well, I'll probably go with the Wind.

Mine was slow too. Try it.

From my couch I was getting 0-20KB/sec. With the older driver I get 300KB/sec.

Well, touch typing has its pitfalls, eh? Say, aren't you the one who said you do something with a keyboard combination using the FN+lol keys? Where's that lol key again :D ? I refuse to suffer the humility of a retraction.

Back on topic, I connect to a Viewsonic WAPBR-100 in bridge mode. This thing is ancient but I have given it new life via DD-WRT. It also connects my USR ADSL/WiF(e)i router just fine. Also connected to numerous public hotspots in Bahrain and Dubai. No problems.

Should be State-side early next year, or so we are told by Samsung.

Forgive me for asking, or being obtuse, but when was the last time you looked at a laptop sideways in perpetuity to admire its finer features? It's a $500 netbook and aside from the Asus S101 (or now the new 1002HA), you will not find a more handsome model.

I just mentioned relatively ...The depth of the netbooks is nearly similar to laptops and due to this only small decrease in depth, netbooks kinda look weird sideways with NC10 topping this weird list :D

The techniques that can be used to make them thinner are:

    (i) Use expensive materials that enable thinner construction

    (ii) Reduce the keyboard travel

    (iii) Provide a smaller fan

(iv) Use a 1.8" HDD or solid-state storage.

    (i) and (iv) cost more money; (ii) reduces usability; (iii) can be noisy and (iv) adds to cost or reduces performance.

The Toshiba R500 uses (i) and (iii). The fan noise is horrible.

Man, I so DO NOT agree with that award for the HP. It makes way too many compromises for the sake of looks.

    *Not enough ports. Check
*Sucky 4200 RPM 1.8" drive. Check
*Plastic (even if it's higher quality) body (as compared to its predecessor). Check
*Lower screen resolution (as compared to its predecessor). Check
*NO VGA out for free. Check

WTH? What kind of a strange award decision was that? It makes no sense at all.

I think it means that some laptops may not be able to power it from one slot, which is why there are two USB ports.
