Another thing to try; check with a Japanese import company and see if they can handle it or if not, can they suggest a way? -
very discouraging

You can always ask laptopmag for their Korean sample
They were so desperate, they imported it from Korea!

How many people here have installed Vista on their NC10? If so, what was your experience like? Do you run aero with no problems? Or is it ridiculously slow and saps battery life?
I'm wondering because to me, Vista is a much better, stable and secure operating system than XP, and I would much prefer to run it rather than XP. (Although I have been forced to use XP on my M1330 unfortunately) -
-
Its just hilarious how opinions seem to shift in a matter of months.
Oh, and as an aside, I've been meaning to install Windows 7 on my NC10. Does the restore function work well if you install another OS on the main partition? -
I am running Vista Ultimate and believe me, I use it everyday attached to my 22" LCD. It's nice! Not slow at all even with Aero enabled. I do have 2GB RAM though and my next step is to stick a Mtron Mobi 3500 SSD in it. However, that will have to wait a bit.
Mark, I haven't tried the restore function but there's a thread over at Sammynetbook that discusses it in detail. It's an EISA partition and I never deleted it but I may just end up using it one of these days if I decide to sell the NC10. -

1024x768 display?
I was in a store the other day playing around on the netbooks, seeing which netbooks allowed a 1024x768 scrollable screen as a selectable option. I noticed the Samsung NC10 and a HP both did not while all the others did. I also noticed that under the display property settings, the display for the NC10 and HP were both titled,
"Plug and Play Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 945 express chipset family"
However, for all the netbooks which had the 1024x768 as a selectable option as the highest resolution, under display property settings it said,
"digital flat panel (1024x768) on Mobile Intel(R) 945 express chipset family" For all of these, the option was a standard option so you did NOT have to uncheck the box, "hide modes" as the display option was already there.
Possibly we could find a way to add the "digital flat panel (1024x768) on Mobile Intel(R) 945 express chipset family" option on the Samsung and it would be perfect for all apps that require the 1024x768. I don't know if it's a driver or a monitor configuration or what. Does anyone know the difference between the two? -
1024x768 works on my NC10 after unchecking the hide modes box. I've used it once when I needed to use a stupid program.

There are rumors of a VIA Nano powered Samsung NC20...

Someone mentioned on a dutch forum that a new BIOS has appeared on the dutch Samsung site:
http://www.samsung.com/nl/support/d...cd=&disp_nm=NC10-14GW&model_cd=&menu=download
It's a multi language file. It adds a fan setting to the bios. Low or normal. Apparently you need to run the file a second time to finish the installation. -
Has anyone tried to attach the NC10 to a 22" inch external LCD? and used it for general browsing and photoshop? how was the performance?
-
I only have a 20" lcd (dell 2007wfp) and it runs smooth.
-
-
-
Me too, I use both displays. My 22" is great though.
PhilFlow, the v4 BIOS also adds an AHCI drive setting in the boot menu along with the fan. There is also a new HDD password setting.

For those running Vista, what is your "Experience Index" (or 'Experience Score") for Video? Mine is 2.2, but I swear i read another post somewhere where people were getting 3.0 or higher.
If you're getting higher than 2.2, what drivers are you running? -
2.7 here, I don't think anyone has done higher than that. Use the latest drivers found in this thread:

This may be old news to some, but I was just on another thread and saw this picture of the S10's keyboard and all of a sudden like my NC10 a lot more.
The S10's keyboard has the same dumb shift key placement, the quality doesn't look so hot and the touchpad is even tinier than the NC10's.
Plus when I bought it there was no six-cell option at any price. Not that I'd pay $129 for an extended battery. -
Speaking of keyboards, I just bought the Samsung NC10 Netbook and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to use the @ key, which means that I can't send email on the darn thing. I have to use my PC to send emails. Bummer!
I live in London and bought my Netbook thru Amazon.co.uk, but the instruction manual that comes pre-loaded on it, doesn't give a clue on how to change from the USA to UK keyboard option, nor does it tell you which function keys to use to get to that crucial little @ key! Arrrgh!
Any suggestions? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I suspect you overlooked to set UK as your location during the initial Windows configuration.
Go to Control Panel, Regional and Language options, click on the Language tab and press the details button. Then add a UK keyboard and set it is the default.
While you are there, make sure the time, date and currency are also appropriate. I always set the short date format to dd/MMM/yy so the month is the abbreviated name (eg Jan).
John -
Thanks, but what is the currency feature all about and is there some magic amount I should set it to? I have already gone into the control panel and reset the keyboard to UK, but it still doesn't help me get to that pesky @...OMG, I just hit the quotation mark key to spell out the word at with quote marks around it, and it turns out to be the elusive key I needed. How bizarre is that? Now what is the real @ key for?
-
Like John said, you need to set the keyboard to UK. You currently have it set up for US, I think.
I have a UK model but mine is still set to the US because I know where the keys are and I don't to look at the keyboard. It's still funny typing on it like that. -

And don't forget, if you have US keyboard layout, it will not change
location of your @ to another place, you have to use blind method to type anyway when you change to UK layout. -
Hmmmm ... ... according to Newegg's specification, the NC10 sports DDR2 800 which would be 6400, so why is everyone upgrading to 667(5300)? What am I missing?

Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions. I really think I'm going to be using my Samsung a lot, especially on long train rides.

Just thought I would let everyone know that the NC10 runs just fine with Windows 7.
The only things I don't have working are the Ethernet and the Samsung graphics software that allows you to rotate the screen and switch monitors with the function keys. Wish I could get both of those working (still working on it), but otherwise, Win 7 runs smooth and clean on the NC10 with only 1GB of memory.
2GB would be better of course, but it's perfectly usable and very rarely, if ever, lags at any point. -
Hey Lawn,
Great you got win7 working on the nc10. What sort of battery life are you getting? -
About 5 hours on the "Balanced" setting. No complaints about that, considering it's about the same amount of time I was getting before with XP, but the screen had to be dimmer.
Also, since my last post, I got the Ethernet card working, downloaded Sumsung's standalone screen rotation software, and discovered that Intel's new graphics driver package includes the ability to show your screen on a projector.
This gives me the same multi-screen options that I had before using Alt+F4, just with different hot keys (Windows key + 'p'). It's actually a bit better as it automatically adjusts my external screen to the proper resolution - something Samsung's built-in solution didn't do.
I'm really, really happy with this setup. As of now, everything works, and it only bogs down when I'm trying to do more then 4-5 things at once. An extra gig of memory will take care of that.
You can either grab the leaked torrent, or wait for the official Beta release (supposed to be between January 7th and 13th) but either way, if you don't like XP, I'd highly recommend giving this a try! -
Hi guys sawfully sorry to intrude but i was simply wondering if the Intel 4965 wifi card actually works in the NC10? as i have put two different ones in to the thing with no success yet
If anyone knew it would help lots...

Nope it doesnt appear in device manager, neither does it appear anywhere else... it did occur to me that maybe it only worked in Vista (as thats all i have ever tried them on) but that can't be right due to them having XP Drivers on the Intel Site...
Anyways ill have a tinker about and see what i can do..

The 5100 works fine with XP.
If you can't see an unconfigured device in Device Manager i wonder if there is a hardware issue. did you look in the BIOS for any hardware configuration options?
John -
Yep, i've looked into the BIOS but TBH theres not really much information in there... meh i'll find another type of wifi card to slot in andsee what happens eh...
Tom -
Hmm, just figured something if anyone actually cares... The card included with the NC10 (Atheros) will not work in other Laptops, However I have managed to try the newer Intel 5300 which seems to be working just fine in the NC10.
Very strange issue, little things like this annoy me so

Is the NC10 capable of streaming off of Hulu.com without stuttering?

Can someone give feedback on how the track pad feels? I've had an Acer Aspire One and the touch pad on that thing felt absolutely awful. It's made of exactly the same material as the other parts so it's much more difficult to drag my fingers across.
I only realized this after going to Best Buys and trying out other track pads on other notebook PC's, which were in comparison easy to navigate. How about the material on the NC10, honestly speaking?
Speaking of Best Buys, is there a store where I can test out the NC10? I've checked Best Buys and Central Computers since I live in the Silicon Valley. There is still Fry's, Circuit City, CompUSA, Microcenter, Office Depot, Staples etc. but I wanted to check if it is available at any of these stores to others in their local regions before driving over to each.
Mark -
The trackpad feels fine but there is little to no lip on it which can make feeling the edge of the trackpad hard.
In fact, after disabling horizontal scrolling and turning up the sensitivity, that's probably my biggest gripe with the notebook so far.
