I just picked one of these up myself. It's my first netbook, replacing my old 12" Powerbook, the battery on that lasts 15 mins now. Anyway Its going to be interesting to see how I get on with it, have been looking at netbooks for a while and this seems like a good deal right now.

This Samsung is such a great little netbook, lets just hope that it lasts longer than the MSI Wind that i had (Died after a month).

I was looking at the Wind (well the Advent 4211) but with so many horror stories as well as good stories I was a little put off. I don't know why I took the gamble to pick one of these so early, I can be dangerous being early adapter to products as I have found out in the past!
I was waiting to pick up a black one but saw the White one and though it looked very slick and just went for it. I am charging it right now so have to was some hours before really putting it through its paces

No, they don't ship the laptop overseas, though they do ship books and videos. However, I can still import it.

This netbook looks absolutely stunning. I can't wait to read some more reviews about this and hearing feedback. If it really is as good as anticipated, I might go buy one as well.

The keyboard can be swapped (they put the keyboard in during production to suit the destination). However, the challenge is to find the keyboard you want as a spare part at a reasonable price.

John, yeah, I know the keyboard can be swapped, I guess I didn't frame my question properly, but you stated this as a challenge so that is really what I meant. I wanted to know if it's easy to purchase such spare parts from the location where the equipment is sold. In our case, the US is a new market for Samsung laptops so I am not sure how prolific spare parts will be. For example, Dell isn't an issue anywhere on the planet, and neither is Lenovo. You just have to figure out the P/N of the component you want to order.

silencer22: The NC10 comes standard with a 6-cell battery which can get you about 7 hours on low-brightness settings.

This thing looks awesome. I had been looking at all of the netbooks and they all have a drawback or two, but not the Samsung. I ordered one from Amazon yesterday and can hardly wait for their stock to come in. This will be my first ever Windows PC, having been a Mac user since 1989. I guess that makes me a "switcher," at least for my portable needs. :)

Thanks but I am quite familiar with that Wikipedia page. And I also know the UK layout. Specifically, the placement of the @, # and | keys bother me. No, I'd just like to see how Samsung has adapted the UK keyboard to the netbook platform since there are always compromises to be made in this arena (take Asus's sucky right shift key layout as an example).

You can see the difference between the UK and US keyboard layouts by reading the User Guide.

I would like to buy a netbooks and one of the models I am thinking about is the Samsung NC 10, due to the remote location where I live , one of my main concerns is the overall reliability and customer after care / service . I have in the past only had Samsung mobile phones, and can honestly say that they were very good , my only complaint came when trying to find / use
samsung software / firmware which all in all was not a good experience, fortunately I did not have to use the samsung customer care option in any way. Just looking at several Samsung mobile phone user forums, it does seem from the endless comments that the Samsung brand all thought a good product , is lacking in its customer care service . I am now wondering that should I buy a NC10, what can I expect both in the areas of product reliability and the customer after service , can any one here offer comments on my above concerns , or may be I am over reacting just a bit , Thanks

I think overall Samsung notebook reliability is above average, but it is too early to know if there are any specific issues with the NC10.

One good side-effect of Samsung moving into the USA market is that the larger user base of demanding customers is likely to create more pressure for any software issues to be fixed quickly.

The quality of customer service seems to vary significantly between countries.

Hi john, Ive just checked out the Thai Samsung web site and as of yet the NC 10 is not shown, it seem's here that the top selling netbooks are the Eee PC 1000 H & the MSI Wind U100 , and some interest in the YeeLoong Notebook , and the UMPC , with Acer being the very top .

Got mine in white from SaveonSamsung.co.uk, had also the r700 in black (main reason i went for white as you could spend all day polishing it if in black).

Its actually quite fast as far as netbooks go, powerdvd v8 works fine for divx and other avifiles and dazzle tv stick reports too slow a processor for dvbt but actually not one dropped frame and the screen is upto typical samsung quality, vibrant and bright. On a full charge with max batery setting got just over 6.5 hrs on normal setting got just under 4 hrs give or take.

Im awaiting a 5300 wireless N card to replace the atheros so going to test that out and also looking at a 3g modem as there is a slot next to the wireless card inside. There is a 3g usim card slot behing the battery but this is blanked out but there is a manufacturer in hungary who sells a 3g modem pciexpress mini with sim slot built in so may look at that but will know more once i open the unit up to see if behind the blanking plate the hardware is there as if thats the case a cheaper 3g internal modem and a little mod to link the two may be in order.

But have to say this is the first "grown up looking" netbook i have seen, well built great keyboard and screen and just a superb all round unit. Forget the EEe's and one this baby puts the nail in their coffins (IMO)

It sounds very nice, I looked at the SaveonSamsung.co.uk, web site and noticed the Samsung 3 Year Collect & Return Extended Warranty - (2 Additional Years) option, I am wondering if this is provided by Samsung or a independent company ? and has any one taken it up .

It is Samsung's own warranty extension, but check the small print regarding the coverage.

I do prefer a larger right shift key but at least it's in the right place (unlike the frakking Eees).

Thering, could you let us know how you get on with your mods? I'm interested in doing them also.

Anyone who ordered from play.com (black) getting sent theirs today? My status is 'out of stock', guess I didn't preorder in time. Anyone else know of a site / UK shop that's selling them now? or has preorders that aren't taken up already?

    1. Yes, it is an extension to the standard 1 year warranty.

    2. It's not free but costs about £100 for an envelope with a number that you then register (it seems to be the same price irrespective of the cost of the computer).

You can buy and register the warranty at any time within the first year of ownership.
