Tell me about it! I'd feel a little better if I knew approximately when to expect mine. Amazon shows no status at all.

Saveonsamsung have updated their site showing 8 black in stock ready to ship
-
-
Just to let you know that they have arrived at PCWorld... available in store (if you can get to it before they run out). I think they have daily shipments. Cost in store: £300.
-
Do they have the black at PCW?
-

-

Ok just thought id tinker and see if vista would run. I created a vlite version of home premium sp1 install at about 750mb booted from usb and install process took about 15 minutes to get to the desktop. used the xp drivers for chipset and vga. bluetooth drivers worked. in fact all drivers worked bar:
touchpad
sound
atheros wireless
touchpad was easy as drivers on the website. Sound was also easy just used the latest realtec hd drivers but atheros was a little tricker but eventually found the inf files on a website after half hour of searching.
Norton 2009 antivirus installed as i know its very light on resources. Just doing windows update at mo but its actually quite speedy, alot faster than i thought it would be. boot is a few seconds more than the xp but everything else runs fine (and thats on only 1gb ram due to be 2gb shortly) Aero doesent enable but no loss anyway. Have to say it handles it admirably and will run for a few weeks to see if any bugs show up with my vlite version.
As for why, why not. -
Can anyone try to install OS X on it and report the results?

Definetly agree, and after updating the intel graphics drivers with latest ones on intels site aero is now enabled, slight hit but again nothing drastic and with an extra ram upgrade would be perfectly acceptable. And the volume is also louder under vista something i noticed on my dell when vista first came albeit still restricted by the speakers obviously

just ordered a black version nc10 on cclonline and i'm gonna collect it from their store after work. waited so long...i'll post some pics asap, lol
-

The uk unit comes with a notebook style charger as opposed to a phone style charger like the early eees. but its a standard three pin plug to the figure of eight style connector into the transformer unit

I'm brand new here and interested in the NC10. Did I read in one of the reviews that samsung also made the AVERATEC N1030EA1E-1 which seems to have the same specs? And it is black.
Steve Rams -
One 10.2" netbook is much like another so don't let the specs fool you into thinking anything else. The Averatec you mention above is actually the MSI Wind.
Back on topic. The NC10 has arrived (in stock) at newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131014
White only at this point. -
Can anyone who has already received the NC10 measure the actual dimensions? I am curious to see if that bulge in the battery is counted for in the official spec of 1.2 inches of thickness.
-
I'm considering getting the NC10:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=319632
Your input is appreciated. -
From my quick measurements the unit at the rear is just under 1.4 inches from lid to bottom of battery foot
-
How about the front?

I found this site a while ago while looking for Samsung NC10 info - now that I've finally got mine, I decided to sign up!
Mine's a beautiful black one, picked up from Micro Anvika on TCR this afternoon. I'm loving it so far! Only complaint so far is that my internet is fairly slow (well, slower than the 20 megs I usually get from Virgin).
I assume this is due to the wireless card included with the machine - is this right? If so, what should I replace it with? And will it be relatively easy?
To anyone wondering whether to just give up on black and go for the white model - don't give up! I've been checking with Micro Anvika every day since Halloween (the day they got the white ones in), and when I saw the black model today, I knew it was worth it. So beautiful. -
Does it feel sturdy? How does it compare to the Lenovo S10 (if you have ever seen one)?
Thanks! -
I read on some review that the NC10 out performed other netbooks in the wireless department even though the wlan card is only b/g... I've bought an 5300 N card to add to it anyway. Shouldn't be hard to replace, you do have to open the netbook up though, no access panel to it.
Still waiting on my black nc10... thought it would be delivered today but no -
I've never seen the Lenovo S10, but the NC10 feels very sturdy. You get the impression it could take a few knocks (though it comes with a nice protective sleeve, so hopefully it won't need to). The hinge seems to be nice and firm, and it snaps tightly shut.
The only thing I'm not in love with is the trackpad. It's too small to be of any use, really, and it's giving me occasional jip whilst clicking and dragging. I'm not too bothered, as I like having a full-size keyboard, and you can get portable USB mice very cheaply. But it's worth pointing out.
I've just discovered an ethernet port, which is a nice surprise. -
definetly agree with electict regarding the trackpad although in xp setting the trackpad to fast (its set medium) its a lot easier to use, also not sure if its present in xp but the synaptic drivers under vista give the option to disable precision enhancement. this makes the cursor move a lot faster and after a few mins practise its a breeze and the trackpad no longer poses a problem.
regarding the 20 meg broadband not sure what the typical throughput of the atheros 5007eg 54 g card can handle (there site states anywhere from 1 to 54) as its varies from router to router and wireless card. sometimes it can be in the mid teens. So a draft n type card would allow you a little more leeway (bandwidth) in theroy thats dependant on if your router is draft n capable of course -
I left a note on the US Samsung web site asking about US availability. Got the response below this morning (Tuesday, Nov. 11). Sounds like preorders (ordered mine 10/19 from Amazon) should get machines soon.

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics. We appreciate your interest in our newly released line of Notebook PC's.
I do apologize for the delay on the release of the NC10. We are expecting them to be in stock online by next week. Those who have pre-ordered the NC10 will be the first to recieve them, so you should have it by Thanksgiving (but that depends on how it is being shipped to your location). Thank you for purchasing the NC10. Have a great day.
Samsung Electronics of America -
is it a glossy lid or the matt one??
thx -
-
id like to see some photos of black NC10, Thanks!
in every angle possible if you can -
hello everyone. i'm a new member to this forum. i just wanted to say thank you to everyone here for all the news, info, and pics that you've posted of the nc10. i've been keeping up with this thread because i preordered a black nc10 awhile back and am still waiting for it to ship out. anyways, i was googling around and i noticed the ebuyer site has the black ones in stock. i live in the US so i've never ordered from this place. i wanted to post the link but it says i'm not allowed to post links yet. sorry
-
ebuyer is in the UK.
-
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has downloaded and is running iTunes and/or windows live photo viewer on their nc10 yet, and how well do they run? Especially iTunes, does it load and respond quickly?
Thanks heaps!! -
Okay, so I've looked here, on Amazon, Engadget, LaptopMag, and numerous other comments/forums, and us sad folk here in the US really want a black model (myself included). Why would Samsung choose not to release the black in the US! I would even go so far as to import the black from the UK, but without knowing the availability of spare parts (the blue does have a black keyboard, hrm), I'm not willing to take that risk yet. Sigh.
Samsung, release a black model in the US! : ( -
It looks like those of us who have been waiting in USA for the NC-10 are about to get some deliveries.
When I finally get my pre-ordered blue machine,
I want to update my 1 GB to 2 GB. I'm not great at this: I know i need a 2 GB DDR2 PC5300 SODIMM.
Does it have to be a "samsung" product? Any will do?
What's the diff between PC2-5300 and PC5300 ?
[I sure don't want to mess up the machine right off by putting in something wrong.]
Thanks!

looks like buy.com is now shipping and amazon has it listed for $488
i'm here in canada and i'm really tempted at buying
From what I've seen from images and reviews, there are currently three keyboards
UK version - smaller right shift and odd shaped enter key
Korean version - normal keyboard with large enter and right shift key but has korean alternative characters
US version - normal (to us i guess) keyboard
is there a normal keyboard for the UK version? or is the one i specified above the only version they have? I'm asking because I want a black one also... -
-
I contacted Samsung USA about a Black NC10 in the states:
---------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics. We appreciate your interest in our newly released line of Notebook PC's.
I do apologize as we are currently releasing the Blue and White versions only at this time. There may be a possibility that we release the Black version sometime next year. Thank you for your inquiry. Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Matt
Samsung Electronics of America -
Well...I pulled the trigger a couple of weeks ago on the UK black variant. I think I can get used to the ghey Enter key and the smallish right shift key.
-
It will arrive here tomorrow. I'll test it to see if i like it. -
-
By the way Notebookjournal.de has done a full and detailed review:
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/inspection/679
They got 374 minutes with 30% CPU load. -
Just a point of note. Be very careful when upgrading the memory, the cover is very tricky to get out it has two little plastic latches both on the left and right, they grip the case securely from underneath, you have to pull up the screw end gently and hold in the middle as it does flex and requires a little yank one side of the time to get the cover off
-
electrict can you help with this one. -
What's the quality of the loud speakers like?
I'm not looking for a audio experience, just something good enough to watch a movie with, rather than using headphones.
Thanks. -
The lid of mine is glossy.
Sorry I can't take photos, but other than the colour and glossy lid it appears to be exactly the same as the white model.
EDIT: Oh, and the quality of the speakers isn't great. Very tinny. -
Any more information about the gestures or multitouch. Hopefully it will have the same abilites as the eee pc series.
-
im glad to hear that some places in the UK have the black ones in stock now. i pre-ordered mine at expansys cause i live in california and i thought it would be better to get from a US website. hopefully they have it in stock soon but more importantly i hope i like it when i get it. at first i was really worried about the UK style keyboard but after looking at the layout, i dont think it will be a problem especially for what i will be using it for. its just funny how im choosing color over functionality.....stupid american, i am, indeed. are there any other US websites that are selling the black nc10? just curious
-
just visited ebuyers site and noticed the black nc10 is now on preorder again. they had some in stock last night?? im curious if they actually did have the black nc10s in stock or if it was a website error.
