Just loaded up my NC10.. so far I love the keyboard and the size

6 Cell battery showing around 5 hours fully charged.
I should be getting my 9 cell battery in the next day or two

Upgraded the ram stick, very simple

Before I booted it up I reinstalled Windows XP, Then I ran the samsung cd to reinstall the drivers.. I made sure not to install Mcafee Antivirus..
System is pretty fast.. doing windows updates now.. love this little laptop

Only thing I think might bug me is having to scroll down browser pages since you can't see as much real estate.. but I think I will get used to it.. worth the scrolling for this little thing

When I get the 9 Cell I will post up the real battery life.

I could probably get more than 5 hours but I like to see my screen bright and clear and I didn't set the CPU to minimum

This is one of the reasons why I like the idea of the larger 11.6 - 12" netbooks. 600 pixels is not a lot of vertical real estate... 768 or 800 sounds a lot better.

But no doubt, the ultra-small overall size of the NC10 is NICE. :)

Right, with disabled Bluetooth, Max Battery profile, medium brightness it should be around 6 hours or more.

Is it normal for the power supply to get hot when its is charging? I know that it is small but my Sony Vaio doesn't heat up at all.

I love that pearl white color. The blue and black models easily show smudges and fingerprints... not so much on the white.

When I had the white one I wished I bought the black one. Then I sold the white on and got a black one. Then I wished I had a white one. Then I sold the black one and got a white one.

My mind was playing tricks on me.

Yes true story. You can check the For sale forums if you want, I offered two of them here.

Must say though that by using good deals on the NC10 I can buy them cheaper than I sell them, so it wasn't costing me money.

    Another vote for white.

Bought a black NC10 first and couldn't live with the fingerprints, as it detracted from its beauty.

Sold it a month later (made a profit of £30) and got the white.
    I love the colour. :)

Got a question about performance of the nc10, would I really notice the step down from a full fledged laptop? I mean can it run photoshop, firefox with several tabs open smoothly? Still deciding if I should get one of these or a samsung q320.

It can run Photoshop and Firefox fine, but it will depend on how heavy your usage is.

One limitation of the NC10 is the display resolution. You might want to also consider the NC20 which has netbook performance with a more usable 1280 x 800 resolution display. See my NC20 review which includes comparisons with the NC10.

Both of these would benefit from upgrading the RAM to 2GB if you plan to have Firefox and Photoshop running at the same time.

I often have loads of tabs open so it may stutter slightly. Think I'm gonna go with a full fledged laptop right now and get a netbook later down the line. The nc10 should be cheap in jan next year so I might pick one up then.

40+ tabs without flash is no problem at all.

Lots of tabs with flash is a big problem.

I think one needs to realize that this is an entry level computer with very minimal power. It will run Photoshop and Firefox just fine, but it will be slow and the more windows you open the more slowly it runs.

If you feel you'll be better served with a bigger processor (maybe a dual core) then that is the route you should take. I think many get these netbooks and find themselves terribly disappointed because they have unreal expectations.

I just purchased a black Samsung NC10 netbook from BestBuy, after discounts, for c$350, I'm very impressed with it and plan to keep it. I compared it with the HP mini 1030NR (c$230 refurbished with 90-day warranty) with a 16GB SSD and a white Samsung N120 (c$330). The NC10 will be used for note taking, web browsing, checking email, instant messenging, communicating via Skype, playing music and videos, and web site updating; it will supplement my main laptop and desktop computers.

I really liked the size and visual design of the HP but found it ran very hot and 16GB simply wasn't big enough for what I needed; I didn't like the position of the touchpad buttons; I found the screen viewing angles were not very good; the camera was simply unuseable; I also started getting software error messages after updating the system software to the latest versions; in addition, it would have cost another $80 to upgrade the warranty and at least $60 to get a 6-cell battery, which would have brought the price to around $370. I liked the N120 but didn't like white and its overall size, so I decided to try the NC10.

I think the NC10 has a better screen than the N120 and the HP mini 1030NR, the keyboards are about the same (excellent), it runs very cool, and it is very responsive. I've had no issues with the touchpad and find it very easy to use. My NC10 came with a Western Digital 160GB hard drive and 1GB RAM (Samsung PC6400 6-6-6); since I already had a 2GB PC6400 6-6-6 SODIMM, I replaced the 1GB with 2GB and set the virtual memory to 0.

I installed all the XP and Samsung updates, Internet Explorer 8, Avast Anti-Virus, Skype, CCleaner, Advanced SystemCare, SmartDefrag, OpenOffice 3.1, K-Lite Codec pack with Media Player Classic, FoxitReader, Quicktime Alternative, Realtime Alternative, and Dreamweaver MX. All my programs, MP3 and AVI files are running smoothly, battery life is between 5-6 hours (mixture of browsing and playing videos), and overall the system is very responsive.

The black NC10 is currently £239.99 in Argos and I've got £122.50 of Nectar Points I can redeem there. I think the time has finally come to purchase the NC10, particularly as my local store only had two left several minutes ago (I reserved one and now they haven't got any and they had over five a few days ago).

According to 'complaints' on other forums - the low price at Argos and Currys is because they are fitted with 3 cell (3 hour) batteries NOT 6 cell (6 hour) batteried... - just a word of warning,

I've just been reading about this, so have decided to give it a miss from Argos.

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA is a good alternative, but Argos doesn't have it in stock at my local stores or for delivery and they seem to be selling a slightly inferior model to the highest spec one that would be preferable.

Is NC10 able to play heavy flash videos in web sites?

I mean youtube with "HD" param or redtube (warning, adult material) and other that kind of tubes? Does video and/or audio lag?

I haven't found enywhere information about that kind of performance. Eg. "normal flash videos what are compressed better than normal youtube videos".

Nope, it'll skip. Even with the HQ setting in youtube, let alone HD.

I've taken to downloading the mp4 files directly when possible and watching them.

Thank you very much for your answer!

Pity that it will lag on internet videos, but well, propably there is no any mini laptop that will play heavy flash videos without a lag. Or is there, do any of you know?

Well, have to think if I will buy NC10 or not. Maybe that flash video lag is not that bad thing, or maybe it is, can't be sure yet, have to think about it. At least in NC10 have a great keyboard, at least that is what I have read.

Propably Adobe will create one day flash with support for 3D hardware acceleration, so those videos might be work well then. But anyway, thank you, that answer helped me a lot :)

You might want to check out the Samsung N140 then. It is virtually identical to the NC10, plus extended battery life, wireless-N, 250GB HDD and a bigger trackpad.

not sure if this is covered in the previous 99 pages but it is a bit much to sift through.

I have a Samsung NC10 and the screen resolution isn't great. There are only two options - 800x600 and 1024x600.

Is there another driver that might allow a better resolution/display?

    Cheers!

1024 x 600 is the upper limit for the internal display. This is fixed by the number of pixels and was one of the requirements decreed by Intel and Microsoft so that netbooks wouldn't eat into more profitable products. If you want more resolution then you can either connect an external display or by a different netbook such as the NC20 (12.1" 1280 x 800 display).

Hi guys I'm undecided between this, the N130, and N140.. what are the main differences? It's for my gf and she will use it mainly for surfing and MSN chats / webcam so the wireless performance, keyboard and webcam are my main priorities..

    cheers :)

The main differences are that N140 has a higher-capacity battery (5200/5900 mAh vs 4000 mAh on the N130), built-in bluetooth and an USB port that can be used to charge electronic devices even while the system is turned off. If having the longest battery life possible is not among your top priorities, the N130 is the best choice since it is somewhat cheaper. Be sure to check the specifications of the machine you're buying, since they've been known to vary between different regions.

By the way, for further discussion of the N130 and N140 models, there's a dedicated forum thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=415115

    Hello folks,

I recently bought a Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000 to use with my Dell Latitude E6400 and my Samsung NC10, both of which have Bluetooth.

I have confirmed that both the BT modules are working properly, since I can connect my phone to both laptops and use it to browse contacts, photos, etc. I have also confirmed that the mouse works properly, because it works fine with my E6400 (running Vista 64-bit).

However, no matter what I try, I can't make it work with the NC10 (running XP 32-bit). Anyone else had this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

Just a clarification: the NC10 actually detects the mouse and says that pairing was successful. However, when I get the message saying "pairing was successful, to test, use the paired mouse to click on this button", the mouse doesn't work. In fact, the mouse still blinks the lights as if it is still waiting to be paired.

I'd appreciate your help on this!

I can't help you with this. I tried using a Bluetooth mouse a few years ago and put it away because it used to periodically lose its connection. I also found that Bluetooth significantly shortened the battery life (I think that's discussed in my Samsung Q35 review). That was probably with XP. Maybe newer versions of windows manage Bluetooth better.
