Hello folks, I would like to apologize if someone posted this question before. I read a post on Samsung website that somebody mentioned the graphic card (AMD 8770) never seems to be utilized, another person in the forum also answered that the laptop doesn't "activate" or use the discrete graphic card at all.

Can someone has experience with this? Does anyone mind to give a clarification here?

    Thanks in advance!

Here are the Q and A posted in the forum:
Question- " The AMD 8770 graphics card never seems to be utilized, only the Intel 4000
W8 is fairly new to me, I'm unsure of all the different places to check settings. In the Catalyst center I have changed all the settings to high performance, regardless of power settings. What else do I need to do? I purchased this laptop because it had better than integrated graphics."

Answer- You can't use the dedicated AMD Graphics Card. Samsung built these laptops with the card in the machine but the Drivers and Software packaged with the machine will not "activate" the card and there are no available driver updates from either AMD or Samsung. If you check under Device Manager and click on the AMD graphics card you will see there is a "Null" under its configuration which means its not configured properly.

After many hours on the phone with Samsung and Best Buy Customer Support both simply said to return the laptop for another one.

Note to Samsung: Read the Best Buy Reviews....everyone who purchased this laptop has the same issues.

Another issue you may notice is the HDD isnt configured properly either. You are likely only going to get a MAX speed of ~10 MB/sec using the stock 1TB HDD. That is extremely SLOW and not configured properly.

Return the laptop and buy another brand if you ask me.

There is another review from Bestbuy customer that mentioned on this issue, he mentioned that it's hard to tell whether the graphic card is functioning.
Anyway to check whether the AMD graphic card is utilized?

Yeah, the Best Buy review is mine. I hadn't seen the one you posted above though, it kind of goes with the information samsung has given me. However, some people on this forum are saying the AMD driver is working for them, while others can't tell, or don't feel it's working all the time. So, I have to admit, I am getting frustrated and confused. Why would Samsung say it's not completely functional, if it is? I may just pack it up and bring it back, which'll make me sad, I was so looking forward to this model.

You can go to this sites forum discussion for more talk on that AMD driver here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/709816-new-samsung-series-7-chronos-thread-2-a.html

I just got my NP780Z5E yesterday. To test the graphics card I installed the new tomb raider game. It has a built in bench mark. I ran it first without any changes to the initial setup. It was benching 17 to 20 fps. I then used the menu on the display driver to tell it to run tomb raider at maximum performance. Then I re-ran the benchmark. This time it showed 27 to 30 fps and the visual quality was much better. The flames look much more natural. I cut the resolution down a bit and had 40 fps or more. I think the graphics will only get better when official support for this GPU is started.

I love mine so far! I think Best Buy just jumped the gun a bit.

That's AMDs crappy optimus technology. You have to right click on desktop, go into amd settings, add the .exe file to the list and set it on high to use GPU instead of iGPU. It works for me in Skyrim, even if the launcher shows HD4000 only.

Nvidia is so much better and well designed. There you can richt click on game icons and launch the mode you like to. Quick, fast and you know what you do.
