Basically it`s the same as the 17" NP550P7C , but in an 15.6" case and has only 1 x hdd/sdd drive bay , so you can read though the NP550P7C thread.

Oh okay.. P7C isn't launched/available in my country, so didn't knew about that.

Hi all, (long time reader first time poster)
I got this laptop last night, and after using for an hour started to blindly unistall the bloatware which came with it.(im reasonably tech savy but new to alot of areas)
Later i realised my wifi wasnt working, i kept doing a basic restore which would fix it for about 10 mins.
So stupidly i jumped the gun this morning before work and installed the OEM windows 7 disk and selected to do this on the C drive. Just before i left for work this finished, obviously i now have no drivers, or any of the useful samsung software like power manager etc etc.
Now i just want my laptop to be back to how it was, i dont mind suffering the bloatware if i have to i just want things like Nvidia optimus, the power and battery management software etc.
My issue is, the only network adapter which the system recognises is the bluetooth one so i cannot get internet to try and download Samsung software manager (i think thats it) which would allow me install of of the drivers and software i need?
Or is there a backup partition on the D drive? which wouldnt have been wiped by the clean install i chose to do on the C drive? i just want to be able to use this online again and really regret my stupid and rushed mistake this morning.
Im finished work at 5pm so some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you -
Hi, welcome to NBR
Yes there is a hidden 22GB recovery partition.
Try doing this - restart the system and on the very first screen when the Samsung logo appears, press F4 for recovery menu(You have to do this quick). From there you can re-install the drivers as well as the various Samsung supplied management softwares.
OR
Click Start -> All Programs -> Samsung -> Samsung Recovery Solution 5
From there you can advance to re-install the Stock system softwares.
Give this a try and revert back.

Even though my actions were pretty moronic this morning, i remeber it giving me the option between C and D drive to write the new OS onto, so even though i wiped the C drive into a useless state i should be able to get the drivers off the D drive following your instructions
Thankyou will post back tonight hopefully on my samsung
I dont think i can access it when the computer is not in boot sequence, i couldnt seem to find in on my booted laptop as it wiped all programs except windows. Unless that program is included in the OEM CD? -
That's great, if you haven't touched the other partition you should be able to re-install all the System Software again.
I would also suggest to backup the System Software on a DVD(Using the Backup option of Samsung Recovery Solution). This will come in handy in case you ever end up without the Recovery Partition.
Rey
If you can't find it, download and install it from here - Download Samsung Recovery Solution 5.0.1.5
After that I would suggest you to perform a Complete System Restore, detailed instructions are here - How To Use Samsung Recovery Solution
If you recovery partition is intact, it should work.

They stuffed the applications and drivers on the recovery partition. -
Thank you im back on the factory settings now and all is good
Is there a way to remove bloateware safely? like norton etc? as my wifi stop functioning last night after i did this via uninstall.
This laptop is a beast for the price it is with the cashback! -
Glad things are good now.
Yes, you can uninstall programs like Norton from Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
I too have removed Norton and a Game pack or something, I can't remember its name now, Kazuma games or something like that, and some other things via uninstall option in Control Panel. It should not cause any problems.
You can remove them without any worries, just don't remove the Samsung applications(the ones starting with 'Easy'), they come in pretty handy actually.
And yeah, I agree, it is truly a beast, keeping in mind the price and the features it packs.

Still running the factory settings, will do a clean up on it soon. Anyone had any problems with the wireless on this machine?
The reason i did a clean install was because i thought removing firmware stopped my wireless connecting.
However after doing the factory reset everything was fine, last night was using wifi till late.
On booting the computer this morning the wireless connected but no internet access. ive updated drivers etc to no solution. It works plugged in with ethernet as im using it now but this is the second time that this has happened on this machine, seems to be on second bootup (perhaps windows updates?)
Thought maybe someone here had found a work around for this? -
That's strange. I have no problems accessing internet via WiFi.
-
-
^ +1 to that. I too found 3 updates at Intel site - WiFi driver, Intel HD4000 graphics driver and WiDi display software update. And none of them is available for download at the official Samsung site.

had a manic weekend with this laptop trying to get the laptop to work on wifi, but it was in the end one of the o so simple in your face problems lol.
Basically it was to do with the samsung power management when on battery. It was turned on so when ever i was on battery, even tho the wifi was connected it wouldnt load as it took to long. Turned off the setting and viola.
Glad i worked this out before my replacement one comes today. Found a dead pixel and rang amazon and they to my supprised authorised a return.
Thought id try my luck, normally id live with the odd pixel but it was in an annoying place and if it was getting to me in the first weekend might aswell try to replace!
On the other hand was playing WoW on this on high at 100+FPS last night lol such a mint graphics card, downloading the crysis pack from the steam weekend deal to try that. Will probs need a cooling mat for long term gaming but generally the vent is the only part which heats up which is a good thing TBH!funking likes this. -
And yes it doesn't heats much, just the area which surrounds the output vent tends to heat quite a lot, I hope there is nothing to worry about?
Did you recorded the temperatures while playing WoW? I ordered Cooler Master Notepal U3, received today, have set it up, let's see how it goes.
Rey -
It was quite hot, but i lowered the settings to high which made things quieter. Also enabled V sync so it capped FPS at 60, as i found that the computer would go upto something silly and overwork itself needlessly lol. Had 180 FPS on fair inside which is so overkill lol.
Will play for an hour questing on Ultra tonight and see what temps i get. I dont think any damage can be done as the Intel Ivybridges shut off at 105 degrees i think, and as long as only the vent area is hot it means its not spreading to places it shouldnt!
Let me know how your cooling system goes, my friend swears by his as his Dell use to shut down alot when gaming. -
NVIDIA DRIVERS 306.23WHQL
Latest driver for GT650M has been released. WHQL certified, no more beta. -
Stopped over at the NP550P7C 17" thread and it seems those machines are really hot! Literally. Glad I got this with the lower wattage chip. Still plenty fast cause I'm not a big gamer.
-
Yes, I agree. For casual gaming, this is perfect.

Hi there, I would like to know what discrete GPUs really are used in the 550P5C, because here in Germany we have many different trims with about three different GPUs on the Samsung homepage.
550P5C-T02DE and -T04DE have GT 630M with 2GB GDDR - which could mean either GF108 or GF117, a range of clockspeed from 625 to 675 MHz and even 64Bit mem-Interface (the only GPU-Z screenshot of a GT 630M GDDR5 I swa had this)
550P5C-S03DE and -S04DE have GT 650M 2GB GDDR3 - which probably means full GK107, 850MHZ and 900MHz DDR3 (not real GDDR3, which isn't used anymore).
550P5C-S02DE has GT 650M 1GB GDDR5 - thats the one I'm interested in, if it realy exist, resellers show it with 2GB of unspecified VRAM, too. Should mean 735MHZ and 2GHz GDDR5, which would make it the best of the bunch.
So I'd like you to tell me which GPU you have got, if possible with a GPU-Z screenshot. -
Here is mine - GT650M, 2GB GDDR3
Here in India, there are only 2 variants. -
Upgrading to Windows 8 has broken my FN key functions
The Samsung Settings program won't launch - what can I do? -
I tried Win 8 and had all sort of problems, I just used the disc that came with and re-installed Win 7.
In addition, even if things went well, I would have got back to Win 7 anyway, I don't think Win 8 is up to speed yet. -
Yes, it is too early to move to 8 yet.
@Cakefish I suggest you revert back to 7 for now. -

I note that some users have successfully uninstalled Norton Antivirus. My attempt has been disastrous. I used the accepted Control Panel/Uninstall routine but a Norton splash screen came up saying it was gathering information. After 10mins + I tried to close the splash screen while I researched Norton problems online. It would not close so I pressed the power button to go into sleep mode while I searched for a solution.
Since then I cannot gain access to the screen. Repressing the power button/Opening and closing the lid do not recover the screen as normal. Even inserting the Windows7 DVD gives no response.
The front edge lights are all illuminated (using external power now) and the HD light indicates activity.
Is there a reset/reboot method without screen access? At the moment I cannot even turn it off! -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
You might want to try using the Norton Cleanup utility.
John -
Thanks. It did work!
Now chasing the Norton cleanup. -
-
Can't go back as Windows 8 replaced 7 when I upgraded! Lucky now I don't need to!
Really liking Windows 8. Sometimes it boots in just 10 seconds - extremely impressive considering the slow HDD speed of this laptop. -
How did you get the settings program to work? It never starts on my Win8.

hi guys!... I have a problem that is already surpassing my sanity
I have a NP550P5C (i7 3610, GT630 ddr3) and as we know, the screen has a blue tint very annoying, I use to work in photography and design.
and the problem is this, calibrate the screen, generate the corresponding profile. icc, I place it in the Color Management section of windows, so far so good, but when the notebook starts after a few seconds to load all... calibration lose and returns to uncalibrate state!!!. I read that the problem is a program (igfxpers.exe) that was intel drivers, remove it from the registry and disk, but nothing I still have the same problem.
someone did this happen? ... know of a solution?
thanks in advance! -

Hey guys :hi2: I've just bought the i5 A08UK version of the NP550P5C and it came with Windows 8 which I hate.
I have a Win7 disc which I want to do a fresh install with but the laptop won't boot automatically when its in the DVD drive and in the Bios (f2 on startup) there's only one option under Boot Device Priority which is Boot Option #1 - [Windows Boot Manager PO: ST1000lm024]. The DVD drive works with no problems when the PC is running so...
Any Ideas how I can do this fresh install? Would really appriciate your help, thanks  -
-
-
Why wouldn't it be a fresh install? I tried the free version of Win 8 and didn't like it, so I used the Win 7 disc that came with my laptop and installed it over Win 8 without a problem.
-
To be honest, I don't know if you can perform a fresh/clean install that way. I believe the system will always save your current OS as a .old file.
I found out the hard way Windows8 machines come with a new OS based bios called UEFI with which you can select a boot order, - How To Access The BIOS On A Windows 8 Computer I, however, decided to do everything the wrong waylol and went about deleting all the Win8 partitions (I put it down to tiredness) I was persistent though and even after I had thought I'd bricked the laptop, many times, it's now running very smooth with a clean install of Win7. It turns out there are options in the actual bios (f2 at startup) that can allow your pc to access non win8 startups.

No need for the attitude imo.
Funny though, how you haven't realised the difference between our situations. Either way, it's over now and i'm not arguing with a jumped up forum "notebook consultant" who hasn't got a clue.
thanks for nothing. -
And I don't consider myself a consultant, you asked a question on this forum and I answered you truthfully. I don't want to argue with you either, but I won't let you tell me you don't know if that's possible.
Good luck to your family! -
I got Samsung series 5 laptop NP550P5C Core i7 version, it came with windows 8 installed on it.
Now i want to install opensuse on it in dual boot, i have both bootable CD and a bootable pendrive... but when i restart my laptop it doesn't boot from either of the booting media, instead it directly boots to windows 8, i have tried to setup boot device priority in bios by pressing F2 but there is only one option in boot device priority "windows boot manager (PO: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB), there's no option to boot from removable or CD/DVD drive.
If anyone knows how could i resolve this, then please help me.
Thanks in advance. -

, some other program must be interfering with the windows color managemen...
there is a way to record a log of the programs going to analyze loading at startup and try to discover which program is interfering?
