Those instructions relate to a keyboard that is inset into the keyboard surround and is usually held in by some screws underneath and tabs around the edges.

I haven't tried to dismantle one of these notebooks but my understanding is that the whole notebook is assembled on top of an upside-down keyboard / palmrest unit. So it's a matter of removing the bottom, then taking out everything inside and disconnecting the display until all you have is the part you want to change.

The key requirement is a good set of tools and perhaps take photographs at each stage of disassembly and label the parts so it's easier to recognise where the parts go when you want to reassemble. If you haven't worked with ribbon cable connectors before then note that they usually contain a hinged part which you can rotate using a small screwdriver or fingernail.

Thank you for this guide. I have swapped my HDD to Samsung 840 Pro 256GB and it is blazing fast. Boot up time is about 8 seconds after all the necessary configurations. Used 2.0mm screwdriver all the time and it worked perfectly.

    Hello!

I have a NP700Z4A-SD1BR but its left side USB hubby had a short circuit and now is damaged.
Does anyone knows the part number for them?

    Thanks!

Hi najakkroks, welcome to NBR and the Samsung forum.

So, you got one of the rare Z4A (15 inch Series 7). We don't see many of those.

I wasn't able to find NP700Z4A at all on samsungparts.com -- where I would normally suggest you find part numbers, before scouring the internet for availability and price.

But regardless, I believe the USB circuitry is directly on the motherboard, so if it got shorted, I am not sure replacing it separately is an option at all. I realize that's not the news you want to hear. Hopefully I am wrong and others can post happier news :(

I wonder if the Z4A shares a lot of parts with either the Z3A or Z5A in which case the ports may be on separate boards connected to the mainboard by ribbon cables. [That's the way I would do it to reduce the production and inventory cost and I would hope that Samsung's designers also seek out economies.]

Have you looked inside the Z4A to see how the components are arranged? The boards themselves probably contain some identifying text.

This list of Z3A parts lists some sub-boards.

Hello, I had problem with my keyboard. So I bought a new one. Did anybody replace the keyboard so far? Or do you have any disassembly manual to understand if it is possible (and easy) or not?

I have already changed many part of this laptop, but I have never removed the motherboard to check back to the keyboard.

    Thanks, bye
