I haven't tested the new driver, but I use 10.7.5.0 aswell, and everything works fine for me, so I won't upgrade atm I think.
-
Epic screwup from the driver team. -
10.7.11.5 has a file named ETDDeviceInformation.exe. You can see realtime information from the touchpad. Watching the output I was able to see and quantify a problem that I have noticed. The problem is that even though I dial down the sensitivity I still get stray taps. Viewing the output it becomes apparent that the sensitivity setting is only applied to drags. The setting is simply ignored for taps.
Also, you can enable the display of touchpad rejection UI in ETDAniConf.exe if you change the value of TouchPadRejection_Display from 255 to 1 at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay. It controls whether or not the touchpad is active while typing. -
I upgraded mine to 10.7.12.6 and everything seems to be running smoothly. I also have no problems with either left or right click.
-
Not just the left and right corners, but the entire pad. -
-
10.7.11.5 was buggy the click pad didnt work properly, and moving the mouse slowly it would pause and jump around. i am going to try and find 10.7.5.0 and give that a try
-
-
I too just updated to 10.7.12.6 through the Easy Software Manager. What a failure by the Elan/Samsung driver team. Why would you disable the use of the clickpad? What would be the point of having a whole click pad if you can only use the bottom corners? I bought this computer in part because of the clickpad and would not have bought it without.
I too will be rolling back my drivers, but I just do not understand the thought process behind this decision. -
Someone with the Series 7 should raise this new driver issue with Samsung.
-
Apparently I don't really have any trouble with this because I don't like to press so hard just to click, so tapping works well for me. But without this, I could not drag and drop easily, so it definitely need to be fixed soon.
Also, Elan driver need to be complete redesigned for more suitable. Implement some palm check and fixing the jumping cursor at low sensitive would be those things that they need to do first. -
Hi all,
Just picked up my Chronos a few days ago and been fiddling around with the mouse. The auto-update sucked so I went only and found a driver version 10.7.6.2 WHQL. I've found that I cant move the cursor while typing. It seems to be a problem some other people have and I can't find a way to get it to work.
I've tried regedit. I've set all of the following values to 0 but no luck yet:
Elantech/Smartpad/
DisableWhenType_AllArea
DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Gesture
DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move
DisableWhenType_DelaTime_Tap
DisableWhenType_Enable
I also tried setting Elantech/UIFunctionOption/UI_Theme to 0 but that didn't do anything so I set that back to 4.
Anyone know any way to set things so that I can use the trackpad while typing? Or is there a version of the driver that might be better? -
Change the TouchPadRejection_Display value from 255 to 1 at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay. Then start ETDAniConf.exe. On the Additional tab, disable rejection. (I have 10.7.11.5 installed.)
-
-
yes, ETDAniConf.exe gives much better control over touchpad than the default touchpad control panel app.
-
-
Strange - was etdaniconf running when you made the change? If so,exit it and restart. The change should be made before it starts.
I've updated to 10.7.13.1 and TP Rejection still works, however, the registry value is reset when you exit ETDAniConf so you have to enable rejection display each time you start it. -
Just to put in my 2 cents here, I think that the driver updates have on the whole improved the touchpad performance. Maybe I am just getting more and more used to using it, but I really think that it just behaves better with the updates (sorry, too lazy to go back and install older drivers to check!).
Silly that they took away some of the config options, but they are easily restored with the ETDAniConf file. Also silly how often updates are issued and what huge files they are!
I wish the config file would give more options for 3 and 4 finger swiping. I would really like to be able to maximize and minimize windows with 3-finger swipe up and down. I don't suppose anyone has come up with a hack for something like this? -
Hey guys!
I've just received my series 7 from the microsoft store (came with a 200 dollar credit towards future purchases) and am really trying to get used to this trackpad right now.
One big problem:
Alot of my left clicks down on the lower left hand side don't register!
I know that when I was reading reviews, someone had mentioned this issue and there was a fix where someone had put a paper shim under the trackpad for the left clicks to register better.
I can't find any discussion of this issue on this forum, can someone point me towards the right direction for this fix?
Thanks! -
I think the paper shim you remember was a workaround for presses of the space bar not registering.

Thanks!!! -

Like to try ETDAniConf.exe.
Where can I find it?
Thanks -

@superwario
I have also noticed that my left clicks don't always register as expected. In my case this is because the left-click is registered as a drag, since I unintentionally move my finger a tiny bit while the clickpad is pressed down. This only happens when the pointer is where dragging is possible. Perhaps your problem is the same?
I would consider this as a SW bug. When the clickpad is clicked (held down for a very short time and then released) the action should be registered as a click no matter if the finger moves a tiny bit or not.
This problem, and the too sensitive tap click are the two issues I have with the ELAN trackpad. Since I turned off tap clicks, the trackpad works very well with the exception of the above problem, which is not so often noticable anyway (spider solitaire is a good example where it does occur often). I use the ETDAniConf.exe. -
Actually the Elan Trackpad sinks far too much in when left clicking, hence fingers will slip. If you have used the Synaptics trackpad you will realise this.
-
btw, what is this etdaniconf.exe that people are talking about?
Thanks! -
The latest trackpad drivers have really screwed mine up. I never had issues with it like everyone else seems to until now.
When I first updated the drivers, it took a few reboots, but eventually it straightened itself out, except the touchpad wasn't registering any clicks. I rolled back the drivers, and now it's doing the exact opposite. All clicks, no other gestures. (I also can't turn the tap to click off. Or anything else, for that matter.)
I'm looking for Samsung's email, but if anybody can help me out at all with the current or older drivers, I'd really appreciate it. -
-
Just FYI (thanks for this thread, BTW), even the latest driver package (10.17.13.1, as I write this) has the ETDAniConf in the zip folders, within both TouchPad/X86 and TouchPad/X64. Since my installation defaulted to X64 [all files in Program Files, not Program Files (x86)], I just copied that ETDAniConf executable into my Program Files/Elantech folder and made a desktop shortcut.
I also went into the registry and set all control display values to 1, then exported that reg file to my desktop. If I reinstall that reg every time before I open the control panel, all the settings are available to change, and the changes are saved. If I open the control panel without reinstalling the reg file, many settings are unavailable, but I can just close it, reinstall the reg file, and then go back in to change any settings, which again will be saved.
I notice there are also several other files, like the EDT.inf, in the zip folders, that might be crucial to making the settings stick. EDT.inf, of course, has those control panel display settings in it (buried down about half way through the file), and everything that's disabled by default is set to 0. I wonder if there's some other config file that gets called every time you open the TP control panel (either one, the stock or the ETDAniConf) which resets the registry values and disables a lot of the control options. -
Good Day to everyone!
I have recently joined your ranks by getting a Series 7 Chronos with the specifications: NP700Z5A-S05UK. Instead of waiting for the refresh I just went ahead with this due to the vat cash back and I am very happy with it so far its performing far more than its price class.
However I have a little niggle, the mouse pad. It is all fine and well with the multi touch inputs etc. However as a gamer I have noticed that when I am holding onto some buttons that the mouse pad stops tracking. It is very noticeable with the WASD buttons. Just to be clear for example when I am walking forward in crysis 2 I am unable to move my mouse while i am still holding onto the "w" button, but here is what's weird, sometimes i can move my mouse but sometimes I cant.. but if i hold the shift and "w" together then i can aim without any problem whatsoever.
I have updated to the latest elan drivers and made sure to go over all the mouse settings, I even looked for a palm check (which btw isnt present). So am I the only one that is having this issue or is this common?
I am just really confused on why it works sometimes and then other times it doesnt :S I mean the mouse pad should not be affected by any key inputs on the keyboard...
(I made a thread about this too, I just needed a reply asap I am considering returning it if it is not fixable :S) -
Hi All, I'm a new owner of the NP700Z5A-S04US. I like so many things about this computer, but - as with many others - a few minor trackpad issues are causing far more than their fair share of hassle.
My biggest problem is the tendency to register double taps when I just want to move the cursor. The number of times I've shifted text/icons/folders/etc around without meaning to is insane, and I've only been using the computer solidly for about a week.
I've read this whole forum thread, and was wondering if someone had some updates on how to manage this problem? I found and ran ETDAniConf.exe so that I could turn the sensitivity down (assuming that the double tap is caused by the trackpad being too sensitive and picking up the first skimming touch of a light sweeping motion to be two rapid touches in succession), but I'm still experiencing the same problem. Sean.e's post back on March 17th implies that sensitivity applies only to drag and not to tap, so this probably hasn't fixed my problem at all. Sean.e - any update on your problem? Have you found a fix?
I've been on the case to Samsung tech support several times about this (doing my bit to make sure that Elan get their act together and release a fix). They, of course, can't offer anything and keep telling me to do a complete restore and then send the computer back to be fixed. For a minor intermittent problem this seems like overkill to me.
Oh - and also - is there any consensus on the easiest/best way to set the trackpad so that it is active when keys are held down? I don't mind tinkering with registry values, but there seems some confusion about which registry edits are the right ones.
Thanks to all for your help!

Anyone have the 10.7.5.0 driver set that they could share? I'm on the latest, trying to use the extra configs to refine the settings, and the touchpad is regularly dying, leaving me with only the ability to scroll and move the cursor but not tap or click on anything. I have to use keyboard shortcuts to reboot, and that's the only remedy I've found. Wow, what a piece of junk Elan/Samsung have here in this TP.

Is anyone else here experiencing a full loss of click/tap functionality on their TP on a regular basis (to the point of needing to do a reboot)? I can't quite tell from the thread, although it's clear a lot of us are having various kinds of problems. -

My Easy Software Manager has just picked up an update to the Elan trackpad driver. It's version 10.7.16.1 dated 10th May.
I can't see any significant differences from the previous version. The Elan control panel still lacks the useful features such as the sensitivity control or the option to not disable the pad while using the keyboard.

PS: The touchpad driver installer package contains the ETDAniConf.exe configuration utility which offers a few more choices (such as a sensitivity setting) that are not in the standard touchpad configuration. Mine was at C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp\ESM\Compress\BASW-12037A66.ZIP\X64\ . It's a standalone executable so extract it and put somewhere where you can find it. -
Hi everyone,
Firstable, sorry for my bad english !
After reading the "Samsung N700Z5H owner", i've bought this laptop. I'm very satisfy of the product except for one thing : the touchpad.
I've tried a many different settings but the touchpad still imprecise.
The thing is i've seen in this topic that the version 10.7.5.0 seem to be the best one. However, i can't find it on the web. I've looking for it many hours, but never found it !
If somebody have it on his computer, can you upload it for me ? It will be very nice !
If not, have you advices to improve the precision of this touchpad ? (i've already try to put the sensitivity at max but it doesn't really change anything.)
By advance, thank you very much for your help, and have a good day everyone !

I've been using this laptop for a week now and applied all updates and changed the settings according to the forum and the trackpad now works fine! I got used to using it and it hasn't jumped at all anymore. However it is sometimes unreliable with slow movements i.e trying to tick a box or something like that.

I discovered that my TouchPad acts funy ONLY WHEN A MOUSE IS PLUGGED IN.
When it's the only mouse input device, if functions fine.

Go to Mouse Properties (Type Mouse in the Windows search box), select the ELAN tab and in the middle you have "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in". Just click the checkbox and apply. All done! -

two days ago, these new elantech touchpad drivers were posted on softpedia:
Download Samsung NP700Z5AH Series 7 Notebook Touchpad Driver 10.7.16.1 for Windows 7 Driver for Windows 7 / Windows 7 x64 - Softpedia
I will give them a try tonight to see if there are any improvements. At the moment I cannot check the current driver version that I have so I hope this one is newer.
I said earlier I had gotten used to the touchpad - but sometimes it is still very annoying!! especially when you move your finger slowly it gets jumpy and imprecise. unacceptable for a laptop of this price... -
I installed 10.7.16.1 via Easy Settings a few days ago. It's the first time I was disappointed by the updated touchpad software. It seemed like each previous update was marginally better than the last.
But 10.7.16.1 has a regression (to me) that makes it hard to drag things - prior to this update drag could be continued with a different finger, but now I have to carefully decide where on the touchpad the drag will start because if I run out of space on the touchpad there is no way to continue the movement. -
Wonders if Samsung is using Elan for the Z5C...
-
flying_troubadour Notebook Enthusiast
what about the possibility of using Synaptics drivers on the Elan?
-
-
Overall, however, I don't generally see much improvement. I still get an aggravating number of accidental click-and-holds when I'm 1-finger swiping, and slow 1-finger mouse movement is still jerky. Still no options to control sensitivity in the default mouse driver control.
I've caved in - the accidental click-and-hold is so annoying I've disabled one-finger tapping on my touchpad. This is a major loss of functionality! I can't believe that Samsung are hobbling an otherwise excellent computer with this crappy touchpad! -
I think the touchpad is perfectly fine - it's the driver (or the layer above it) that is crappy. If I run ETDDeviceInformation.exe, I can see that it knows my second finger came down and it can track it fine. (ETDDeviceInformation.exe is in the Elantech program files directory.)
