Don't install Microsoft's Intellipoint Software, it doesn't help much and has weird quirks.

Everyone email samsung and keep asking them maybe they it will start turning into buzz and someone higher up will notice. The fact there are no leaks out of Asia has me worried, I am actually starting to look into getting an m17x R4 since 680Ms with the 120hz display are now out, its just they are SOOOOOOO expensive.
-
It would be pretty hilarious if they did an about face and released a 680M instead. -
yeah i was really hoping that the 7970m version would release soon but i dont think it will. theres a thread on the sagers 95%ntsc gamut screen saying, if you get the 95%ntsc gamut with the sager 9150, you would need to update the calibration to a V2 (or something like that) in order for you to take full advantage of it..kind of a bummer since the samsungs gamer 7 is perfect out the box. might have to just get the samsung.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung released a 680M. The longer the 7970M delays, the more likely it becomes. The problem with the 680M is that it's a lot more expensive than the 7970M for similar performance. If anyone decides that the extra cost of the 680M is worth not dealing with Enduro issues, it's got to be Samsung. Other gaming laptop manufactures that offer configure to order options will give consumers direct choice between cost or bugginess/stability.
Also, the Nvidia is better for 3D. A non-tech savvy Samsung consumer might associate the 3D performance with the laptop manufacturer and not the graphics card. If Samsung is marketing their laptop to a broader market, they may be cognizant of this.
All this has me thinking that an about face is definitely possible. -
Anyone know if it's possible to swap out the 675 with a 7970m if bought separately?
Also is it possible to strip out the the 2 HDD's and replace them with 2 SSD's? How would you go about re-installing core software like their custom power management settings etc. -
Oops forgot question 2, yes you can. All the software is available on their support site. Be warned however that the HM76 chipset in the Sammy gamer doesn't support hardware RAID.
I'm planning on getting a crucial m4 512GB myself and using the remaining 750GB to back it up weekly. Don't forget to also NOT reinstall express cache software, you won't need it as it's slower than a good SSD.
Actually I would suggest just cloning the existing HD instead of starting from scratch. All you really need to do is uninstall the express cache software and the Intel rst and storage software. The ahci driver that comes with Windows is best to use. -
Wow, that was a long read! I think 80% of the posts in this thread have something to do with 7970m speculation.
I know this is relatively light in comparison to other 17" lappys, but how big/heavy is the power brick that comes with it? I'm going to be toting this baby around the world, along with my M11xR2, and my underwater DSLR camera system / housing, and I'm dreading the weight.
I've also seen mention of the lights on the dials that are somewhat annoying to some people. Is there no way to turn these off? I typically kill my backlighting with the M11x, so this is probably something that I'm going to dislike. Buying it anyway though. It's $1,777 at B&H right now with free shipping.
Thanks! -
The one saving grace is I would imagine whatever they do for the 3D model be it 7970M or 680M, I am optimistic that the board would be able to be purchased from them as a part. -
so whenever i am in game and i change my volume by the touch button.
it will minimise my game when i click the middle of the screen..
any solve for this guys?
also any1 with this problem updating
easy software manager -> easy setting 1.1.1.4
keep failing.
also lastly, there is pop up on start up, that steam is already running by another user but i am the only user in the notebook. -
is it me or when im browsing the web using chrome, it has a minor drag like lag when scrolling. could this be because of the internet? i imagined this laptop to be super smooth when scrolling while browsing.
also switching the monitor from 60/120hz makes it wayy better.
by the way i was talking about the trackpad. -

hey guys i was wondering which driver you guys were running with with the 675m? i just downloaded the newest beta which is 304.48, dont know if betas are even stable but i could not find any drivers for the 675m on the nvidia site via autodetect/manual search..
-
I'm still using 296.01 that came with it. Seems to be working fine for everything.
-
is there any new drivers i should be using with the 675m?
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GR...-Display-Driver-817129601-for-Windows-7.shtml
is that the one youre talking about? -
playing hardcore diablo at act 4 normal..
sound gets loud..
diablo client minimize when i click and lowering the voice..
DEAD! -
I've been with this thread since the beginning, there will be no 7970m model anytime soon. It has a blueray read and a DVD read/write.
-
-
I think i'm going to give up with that 7970m. Would be perfect laptop for me, but I just don't want older 675M. Have to look something else.
Samsung won't give any answers if you ask them about that 3D model. I'm little disappointed. -
Ditto, I just gave up last week and ordered a P170EM.

Endgadget did a review recently if anyone's interested.. Samsung Series 7 Gamer review: the company's first gaming laptop makes its way to the US -- Engadget

anyone getting random "screen glitch" type of issue here and there while gaming?
at times ill be playing diablo 3 and run it perfectly fine..
then just randomly, ill get a "grid-like"(the glitch image is random) image literally for less a sec.
i took a picture of the glitch via video snapshot and it seems to say 60 gold, and on the corner of the screen its just white blotches.
im starting to think it could be diablo 3, drivers, or at the end the computer itself. just trying to see if i can get a logical answer before i try and go through warranty. -
often random screen artifacts are caused by overheating ram on the GPU or the GPU itself.
-
anyone getting monitor problems? mines seem to turn off everytime i unplug it from the charger..
doesnt turn on even when i press the pwoer button..what the F*** -
-
-
-
I'll install d3 this weekend and see if I see the same issues on default 296.01 drivers. -
Hey Everyone, I have had this laptop for about a month now, and about a week ago I started getting a very thin red line going down the center of the screen. I am just hoping its caused by the driver and not a bad card.. I checked and there are no updates for the Nvidia 675M card on the site. Only beta drivers. Does anyone know if the Beta drivers are any good yet? If not.. any suggestions for me to try and clear this issue?
-
Yeah I just recieved email with ups shipping label an all to return for "repair".
What's the point of turning down to 60hz..sort of pointless of gettin this laptop to run it at 60hz when I could've bought a Sager instead..
The line across is a problem I would suggest contacting samsung directly. -

I just got this laptop and am loving the keyboard and everything! I'm used to large laptops and power bricks so I can't complain on any of that. I noticed the same thing with the screen going out at 120hz. At first I thought my laptop was defective until I found this forum and read the last few pages. I bumped my screen to 60hz and lo and behold the briteness is fine now. I'm used to the 60hz and didn't really buy the laptop for the 120hz (it was a nice surprise as I didn't know it came with a 120hz screen.) I do plan on keeping my laptop plugged in most of the time so I could run the 120hz but would prefer just keeping it simple. Also another thing is I was worried this laptop would use optimus. It doesn't and I am glad, as I've had my fair share of optimus enabled laptops and imo they suck! Even if you set the gpu to the one you want for a certain game it sometimes won't change and screwed my gaming up. So I give samsung kudos for not using optimus. You buy a gaming laptop to game not for battery life. Yes it would be nice to have an all day battery on a gaming laptop but most batteries don't even have the wattage to power them. (Samsung has a 200 Watt power brick and an 89Whr battery. Meh, not a complaint. A battery on a gaming laptop is more of a ups for me. Power goes out and I have enough time to stop my game, save any work and shutdown. All in all this laptop seems to be a wonderful system. Coming from Asus G series is like I have finally seen the light! Wonderful wifi, awesome keyboard (not just because of the backlighting effects but it's awesome to type on, i was ready to hook my usb keyboard to it and didn't), great specs, great looking laptop. Samsung did what Asus should have done. I've been reading a few who bought Asus's latest and greatest creation and they aren't very happy with the quality at all. So i'm happy I gave this a try.

Just wondering if there's anyone else who simply can't see the difference between 60 and 120hz ? What exactly should I be looking for ? I've switched between them for both desktop work and gaming and haven't noticed anything different so I'm puzzled, though my gaming only consists of Skyrim at about 30-40fps.

Edit: I found a little information on the differences
What's The Difference Between 60Hz and 120Hz? | LED TV
What Is the Difference Between 60Hz & 120Hz HD LCD TVs? | eHow.com
If you read those articles it should help.
In a nutshell: "The big deal in electronics display industry is over the 60Hz and 120Hz. But most people don't understand it. So I'll try to explain it for you. The 60Hz or 120Hz is essentially how fast the display refreshes the picture. As we all know, a film is nothing more than hundreds, thousands, even millions of individual pictures shown in sequence at a certain speed to produce motion (think of a notepad of drawings flipped through by your fingers to create an animation). So when you take a 60Hz display vs a 120Hz display, you are essentially flipping through the pages (images) twice as fast.
A Matter of Opinion
This will alter what you see, and depending on how your eyes and brain handles these images, it will either look much better, much worse, or not much different at all......"
Read the first link for all of the above article. -
VSYNC to keep images stable and tear-free is the holy grail. For 120Hz to be truly helpful you need a GPU that can push 120FPS. For gaming, 60Hz is still fine. 3D requires 120Hz though since it is trying to give you 60Hz per "eye" to keep images more stable, but I'm imagining most games will end up at 30FPS in since it's more taxing. -

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the 8GB express cache for anything else? I have a program called ebooster that you can format like a sd card to use to boost your random writes and such and was thinking maybe I could use the express cache as a caching system to cache what I want it to, not have it managed. Anyone try anything with it?
