They are neck and neck. Difference is probably not perceivable in gameplay unless one driver is much better than the other for a certain game. I doubt you would notice a difference between them.

Couldn't wait any longer for my laptop 3D fix and ordered my M17x today, sorry Samsung!

I need to buy a laptop before i go to college. I've been eying this laptop for months after i heard the 7970m will be released for it. It looks sleek, and casual enough for work and home study at the same time can perform outstandingly great.
I would be really upset if they do not release it by at least August. -
Does anyone have any idea what might be happening to that Samsung is not yet releasing the new G7 to 7970m (3D) and the new intel chipset, since all other competitors are already providing the platform worldwide for at least one month ... Anyone?! Ideas?!
Having to wait until the end of the year will be a lot of dirty Samsung since I'm waiting for this model since the publication of advertisements talking version of 7970m (3D) with a forecast for June / July. -
-
i meant to say 6970m
-
-
As I live in Brazil, by the way here is a fortune a gaming notebook, I have to wait and that my investment is very valid.
Imagine the sadness that would acquire G7C with GTX675m and after a month or two to release the Samsung with 7970m chipset ... -
It's been a week, and I'm definitely loving this powerful laptop!
just one question is, is 3D version only available in Korea or something?
would've been better if US version has it too (got it from Amazon). -

Any keyboard issues like msi gt70??

Anyone else being having nightmares with Win7 on this after recent updates? Actually, I'm not sure the Windows updates are the cause but they do seem to correlate.
My Win7 bluescreened for a fraction of a second on startup the other day and refused to boot. Startup repair could do nothing, error 6.1.7600.16385. Looking that up seemed to give nothing in particular but several included tips of running chkdsks, fixing mbrs, regenerating bcds and the like but nothing worked.
I've just spent one and a half full days trying to get it running again to no avail. I tried the Samsung cd that came with it but that crapped out telling me it was a different version from what was installed ? I also tried the Samsung recovery partition but all that did was completely destroy my mbr and grub. I also did surface checks, malware scans and the like but nothing (not surprising as I don't use Windows for anything but the odd game of Skyrim).
In the end I gave up and yesterday morning I hunted out an old copy of Win7 Ultimate, wiped the partitions and started from scratch. This install took me until this evening as I was first throttled and then ran out of data on my 3g connection. I very nearly went nuts entirely downloading, rebooting and waiting for windows fixes to install.
The final one was Sp1 and I did a reboot, and guess what, the same blue screen and failure to boot again! This after three solid days going til after midnight at it, so the laptop was very nearly going out the windowI tried the Win7 Ultimate disk as a recovery and that also told me it was a different version, hmmm.
I've spent the past few hours running Startup repair again and this time it was actually coming up with a few more errors, but they kept changing each time (still that 6.1.7600.16385 number on the blue screen mind), eg 'root cause found - a recent driver installation or upgrade may be preventing the system from starting', or 'No OS files found on disk'.
I've been literally on the point of packing it all up and sending it back when twenty minutes ago I went looking through the bios and turned off the ahci setting at random and... Windows started !!
Right now I've just found that the 6.1.7600.16385 appears to be an Ahci driver number. The question is what exactly suddenly started causing this to give such trouble ? Cld it be a hotfix clashing and if so how can I identify which one ?
I am seriously so teed off at Windows right now you wouldn't believe it. I haven't used it in years and only now for Skyrim with this laptop and I'm remembering just why I despise it. -
Sounds like hardware failing to me, i would rma it

Make sure the C:/ drive is in a new state and do a clean install, a better option is to use a different/ spare C:/ drive and make sure the drive is in a new state and do a clean install of your OS, don't activate it unless you intend to use the disk drive or until you have sorted all your drivers and updates, if that doesn't work rma the laptop.

So I've been reading lots of comments praising the screen on this laptop. Could anyone tell me how it compares to the sager 9150s screen? I am in the market for a new laptop and I THOUGHT I was set on the sager 9150 from xoticpc with the 7970m plus the 95% NTSC screen upgrade. Butttttttt..these reviews are gearing me towards the gamer 7, while the only downfall to the gamer 7 is the weight/size.. Any help? Opinions?? I know the 7970m is way better than the 675 but I think I can be happy with the 675s performance.

I did a full wipe and a clean install (which included wiping the partitions and creating new ones) including all the drivers from Samsungs site but it kept crashing again even so.
I've also performed several hard disk checks inc full surface checks and scans using several utilities including Hitachis Align utility and they all report clean so I don't think it's a h/w failure as such.
However I have confirmed that the Ahci setting in the bios directly causes it. Enabling it causes the crash, disable it and Windows starts with no issues whatsoever. -
just found razer blade while searching for alternative laptops. 2800$ for gt555m and a sb dual core?? dafuq?
-
As this been a problem from day one, if not then it could be you are using a different AHCI driver than the one Samsung used, that's assuming you did re-install in AHCI mode, you can't just change to AHCI mode if you installed in a different mode, unless it was raid mode. I haven't got this laptop yet, so I'm not familiar with the bios, but it sounds like it's a laptop that still has IDE mode, if that's the case you'd need more than likely to have to disable the IDE driver in the win7 registry, then reboot Win7 in AHCI mode.
If you can't do a clean install in AHCI mode, then the laptop may have a problem. Some laptops will also not load older versions of windows, if there was a sp pack released on the original version of windows, if that's the case then you'd need to download Win7 Ultimate with sp1, you can do that legally from a Microsoft support site.
As I said I'm not familiar with the laptop, so the points I'm making might be moot points anyway, basically if this was a problem from day 1 it should have been rma'd straight away, if the problems cropped up when you've tried to change OS's, then I doubt it's the laptop.
I'd also like to thank whoever rep'd me recently, it's been a while since I returned to this particular thread, I was unable to find the post, thanks, I really don't check rep's and posts so I'm sorry for missing it. -
Anyone? Also can someone tell me why I can't post in the WTB section yet? Post limit?

I still don't know why the original Home Premium died. I did nothing with drivers bar update to a newer Nvidia one. The only other changes were Windows Updates.
I did a fresh install with Win7 Ultimate. I now know I should have probably changed the bios back to AHCI before doing so. However I did find some info from MS about changing back which involved a Registry hack..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | System | CurrentControlSet | Services | Msahci
Locate the key named START in the right panel
Set the Value to 0
Doing this and changing the bios still resulted in the blue screen despite several reboots and changes, but I eventually found another key which did actually work..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
Rebooting with this one caused a few drivers to install and all has been well since. -
Been lurking around in this forum for a few days now and I have a few questions for you guys. I'm a noob when it comes to laptops in general and the G7C is my first serious purchase, so forgive me if I'm asking silly questions lol.
1. I've been playing D3 for a few days on this machine now on more or less the highest settings. The FPS seems fine until I join a friend and screen gets a bit cluttered with mobs. At that point I often experience a huge drop in fps and 1 second screen freezes here and there. Is this normal?
2. Notice the fan on the right, which I guess is connected to the CPU, barely blows out any air at all, even when running games for hours.
3. The GPU seems to be running at 68-70 degrees c, even with a cooling pad. Does this seem high? I using the coolmaster notepal U3 -
2. CPU on mine runs cooler than gpu. But only is the gpu older step process but works harder during games.
3. That temp is fine. -
Thanks for the info HFM
I've tried lowering the shadow detail a bit but that doesn't seem to help. It just seemed like the reviews and posts I've read all say they run the game at the highest settings with no problems at all. I don't think its a network issue because I have a friend with a much older laptop playing the game (at much lower settings) at my place and he doesn't experience any problems or slow downs at all.
Is there a program I can use that can benchmark the laptop/gpu? -
Been playing D3 on this too..
It is problem from diablo3 as many mention in bnet forum..
Happen on single player mode too..
2 fix recommended are
1. Move the mpq file to a 16gb flashdisk and link it.(search diablo3 hdd stuttering)
2. Set render=0(nvidia control panel).
Background fps uncheck.
V-sync on. -
Nice, I will give the fixes a try. Thanks!!!

this or the sager 9150?

HoppityBob, what you appear to have done when you re-installed with win7 Ultimate, you retained your files and folders from the previous AHCI install, when you re-installed in IDE mode, windows disabled the AHCI driver and Installed the IDE driver, in your first modification of the registry the first time you re-enabled the AHCI driver and still had a conflict with the enabled IDE driver, your second attempt got rid of the conflict by disabling the IDE driver.
When you retain your files and folders, you are not doing a clean install, I apologize for not going into detail, I simply didn't have the time and I wasn't sure with the problems you posted, exactly what you had done.
Pleased you got it sorted. -

What is the price difference between the Sammy and your Clevo config? -
My configured Sager.
Sager 9150 - ic compound, 95%ntsc gamut, 2.3 ghz, 8 gb ram, 500hdd, radeon 7970m, windows 7. Comes out to about 1700.
While the Samsung gamer 7 comes only in one option and costs 1749.
So give or take a couple of 20's, It's hard for me to explain my dilemma in just a couple of sentences loll, i really appreciate you trying to help me. -
Samsung has more RAM, you can probably add more to the Sager without a large expenditure down the road.
Samsung has 3 times the HD space and 8GB of express cache. This will make a difference, you'd have to spend on an SSD to match it on the Sager.
I doubt you are going to notice a difference with the 95% Gamut vs the normal display on the Sager unless you are a professional photo editor or heavy into graphics work. If your main visual charm is gaming don't spend the extra on 95% gamut if it's costing you. I am going to assume, without having seen the sager display, that the Samsung display is far superior in brightness and constrast. Everyone that has laid eyes on the Samsung SuperBright 17.3" 1080p says this. I notice the Clevo 95% gamut does say it's "Super Bright". It may be pretty good.
Not making it any easier with those statements I bet.
If getting crazy high scores in GPU benchmarks and playing games at their absolute highest detail levels in the mid-term to long term future concerns you, get the Sager.
If not, i'd get the Samsung. I do have to stress I can play nearly every game cranked to max, there's a select few that I have to tone down one notch to feel truly fluid. Crysis 2 on Extreme instead of Ultra feels a little better. Metro 2033 I had to crank down one notch. Witcher 2 I did as well. They still look stunning. But with the 7970M you can probably just slide everything as far as possible with the exception of the Ubersampling in Witcher 2, no one can do that without multiple GPU.
If hardcore gaming is ultra important, go Sager or hold out to see if samsung ever comes out with thier 7970M packing 3D Gamer 7. If not, the Samsung is a better total package.
EDIT: As far as carrying them around, they are both going to be pretty heavy. Obviously the Samsung is 17.3" at 8.4 lb, the Sager is 15.6" at 6.6lb. Sager wins this one, though I bet it's going to be louder and may get hotter being a smaller unit. The 7970M should run a bit cooler than the 675M, but the Sammy has a quiet and cool .. cooling system. Can't comment on the 15.6" Clevo that Sager uses.
Gak... I said to much and probably more than one thing twice.. Have fun deciding. You'll probably be happy either way. hah.
EDIT2: Sammy has a Blu-Ray Reader if that's important.... -
I have looked into the sager and decided against it for the following reasons.
1 no 120hz display, this is important for gaming.
2 the keyboard is not very good and the one option looks to have its problems too.
But if neither of those matter to you then the sager is probably better since you can configure it anyway you like. -
Ive asked in another thread and it seems that the sagers screens are actually very nice.
question was "how does the retina mac display compare to the sager w/95%ntsc and the Samsung Gamer 7's screen.
for viewing angles the MBP-r wins, but in color accuracy, loses to the Sager by 25 to 30% of the color space.
it appears the Samsung is about 70% sRGB or similar to most of the non retina MBP's/MBA's excluding the 17"
and if this is true, how good were the non-retina display macbook pros screen?
Sager: i like; future-proofing (although im not sure if ill do MUCH of it other than ram and ssd), 15.6 = more portable, 7970m=BEASTIER than the samsung gamer 7, no worries on how gameplay will be affected longterm.
i dont like; the very minimalistic features (i actually did...till i came across the very elegant samer 7, actually i kind of still do like it loll...BUT not as much as the samer 7). smaller screen can be sometimes regretting..
Samsung Gamer 7: i like; 17.3 "gorgeous" screen (or so they say), bigger screen to work on especially when it comes to designing (photoshop, cs6 etc).(somethings are actually better when bigger) , design/looks of it is 1000% more appealing and "fun" (features, led lightings etc). elegant.
i dont like; the upgrade-ability (stuck with 675m, although it still is considered one of the top gpus) also only upgradable part is hdd to a ssd (but which is probably the only thing i wouldve upgraded on the sager as well and maybe the ram), 17.3 = less portable, not as BEAST as sager. and im trying to get a BEAST laptop loll remember?
so there, kind of summed up my reasoning? loll but still so much thinking..its a coin flip at this moment. so HELP ME!! -
The Sager will be easier to carry and gaming performance will be improved a noticeable (there's noticeable to your eyes like the diff between 25 and 45 fps, and difference only seen in benchmarking like the difference mostly between 60 and 90 fps only the most demanding and sensitive will notice the latter) amount for demanding games in ultra settings and likely games released starting 2 years from now in maybe even lower settings. (Speculation)
I don't carry the gamer anywhere, I sit on the couch with it, so I didn't care about carrying it around. I have an mbp 13 for that. And I was also deciding between it and some 15.6" models. I wanted the extra size because I'm getting old as well. Just can't see quite as good as iused to for long sessions. Dr says ihave 20/20, i argue. The shock of how good the Sammy display looks was kind of icing on the cake, I didn't expect it to meet the hype I can tend to be cynical, it seriously is that good in my OPINION.
Edit: it might just be that laptop displays are just getting better on a whole. But lots of valid reviews from trusted sites are leading it as well. Shrug.
I'm sure the Sager super bright display option is better than average at least. I can't put them side by side.
But take the whole package into account. It sounds to me like you really would rather have the Sager. Get that and you won't be thinking (what if I got the Sager). If carrying 2 less lbs around with you is important, get it. If you will be toting it everywhere with you it will make a difference.
Edit 2: Jesus I'm long winded...is this for college? If so the Sager might be less obtrusive in classes, being smaller.
I'll sing the Sammy gamer 7's praises all day because I like it and I bought it. But it's not going to be right for everyone or every situation by far. Trying to be objective here. -
shuru
I think future proofing in the world of laptops is pretty much a joke so I will say this. Take $1000 and buy yourself a decent mid level gamer, some with a 650M. Wait 2 years then take another $1000 and do it again. Screens and all that stuff are nice but the fact is it is near impossible to take a screen with you. This is why most people wont drop 2200 on a MPB with retina display because in 18 months when computers are twice as powerful you need to drop 2200 again since you cannot upgrade anything on that and with most laptops you cannot really upgrade the mobo which is where you quickly reach a bottleneck.
If value is important then the thing to do is set yourself a yearly budget and spend it at least every other year. In the example I gave you you have a $500 budget per year. If you have a $1000 budget per year then by all means grab the S7G or drop a 7970M in a sager. -
i am now 50/50 at this point. the pros and cons weigh out about the same for either model. also i was planning on going in to see it for myself, tried calling bestbuys, frys, and none of them had it in stock or stocked online. Bestbuy rep told me "if anything another week". they say the screen is comparable to the non-retina display macbook pros. Is your 13'' a macbook pro? and if so how would you say the screen compares to those?
at the least, the samsungs screens are still very high end..just that they say sagers is overall better (although its a LG screen).
dont know, will have to decide within a week..decisions.. -
as far as motherboards, wont the ivy bridge be failry relevant since its pretty new itself?
i dont have 1000$ PER YEAR (atleast to keep spending on 'laptops'), i have 1800 THIS year loll. yeah maybe in the next 4-5 years i will sell this for a base sum of x dollars but will have to save again and go for something more appropriate at that time. both laptops will last me 4 years granted right?
am i being too greedy? too picky? trying to get the best of both worlds when it just cant happen? sagers = beast. samsungs = intuitive. but i will say this, if the samsung was offered in a 15.6 inch. hands down that would be my choice. edit: even if it came gtx675m! -
-
can someone take there latop to a dark room, and switch it on can anyone see a white spot on the screen.
-
-
Also thats exactly what im talking about as far as "am i ever going to upgrade my machine?(sager in this case since the samsungs can only be upgraded to an ssd)". Samsungs gamer 7 stock is pretty beefy, while the sagers stock config. is manageable.
The reason behind why the Gamer 7's screen looks so damn good is because of the 120hz right? but if 120hz screens are only "noticeable" at fps higher than 120, whats the difference between movies and just browsing the web?(everyday stuff). Im sure the laptop will be able to get "above average" fps during most games at ultra, but does the 120hz screen compliment daily use? also does the samsung gamer 7 come pre-calibrated or like the sager will i have to install some V2 onto it to get 100% out of it..
edit: only have to install the V2 IF you purchased your sager with the 95%NTSC gamut. -
No, it has nothing to do with 120Hz, it's bright and the viewing angles are great. Awesome blacks and great contrast.

Hey guys, an item of note here just passing on to the community. The function keys, and the mode switch, DO NOT work properly if you install a microsoft keyboard and mouse! I had a wireless keyboard and mouse combo that I installed. I noted that the function keys no longer worked, and the mode switch did not work properly either. The PC would switch modes, but you didn't see the game animation, and it just wasn't quite right. If your function keys are not working on your Samsung Series 7 Gamer, make sure you uninstall the keyboard/mouse software, OR press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to fire up the task manager, go to your process, and end the intelli process you see running. Hope this helps someone somewhere down the road!

We continue with no further information on the date of release of the GPU 7970m (3D)?
No information or in the Asian market?
