I took apart the laptop last night and it was fairly straight forward. Remove all screws and unsnap the plastic catches. I plucked out all the led's I could so now it is light free besides the keyboard and the mode switch that is a little blue dot that I couldn't get to. I did take a few crappy picks but nobody probably cares to see. Samsung did a really nice job of making this laptop using quality plastic and there own good ideas for construction. It is easily a better construction than the Asus gamer I had and the MSI gamer I had was basicaly junk that is designed to break. I am having a horrible time with Samsungs own drivers software etc on this laptop compared to the other ones. Easy settings is missing a Sabi3.dll now to work and trying to install Modeshift makes the laptop unusable till it is uninstalled under safe mode. Installing the touchpad driver made the touchpad locked up and unusable for a while. This was all on a clean install of Windows 7. Maybe it is like a puzzle that you have to know the exact order to install drivers and software. Anyway so far Samsung has left me hanging there. Anyway I am just about finished downloading Windows 8 preview for my Force gt 240gb and PcLinuxOS for the 8gb hd.

Mine was the G73jw and it is a decent lasting machine. I gave it to a family member. The MSI was a GT780dx and it didn't last a week before problems started. Bad solder on the AC connection. Plastic so cheap that it started cracking right at the hinge. The preformance was really good and smooth with the MSI though unlike this Samsung where they really don't have it figured out yet. I would not buy a MSI again though and Samsung will probably improve a lot in the coming generations.

Quick update on my "under warranty repair". On friday (after multiple sessions with samsung customer reps atleast once a week) i received an email regarding the status of my laptop, it was finally done! basically it needed what they call "re-imaging" (completely wipe out/reinstall OS). The problem was due to "driver malfunction" (or something like that). So im guessing it was the beta drivers i tried out (.49/.69). Already have the tracking number for my package from samsung/ups. should be here tuesday 8/14. I sent it out around the 7/27 while they received it on 8/2. While i did have some "warranty issues" regarding proof of purchase, the customer reps. at samsung were very knowledgeable with just about every aspect of warranty and was quick to help me resolve this issue. another thing i might add is before they went ahead with the diagnosis, they were kind enough to call me in the morning and confirm that i already have backed all my data before they wiped it out. All in all, the wait was longer than I wouldve have liked (3 weeks) but it couldve been avoided with a proof of purchase. So for all samsung owners, if you havent done so already, go register your laptop at Samsung US | TVs â Tablets â Smartphones â Cameras â Laptops â Refrigerators and upload a proof of purchase with it. incase anything goes wrong, it will take less time to get your laptop fixed and sent back to you PROMISE. FINALLY WILL BE GETTING MY LAPTOP BACK! time to look into ssd's!

Here it comes finally!
Samsung refreshing Series 7 Gamer with 3D display, AMD Radeon HD 7870M -- Engadget -
There must be a mistake? HD7870? That is probably not as powerful as the 675m?
-
It's a poor translation at best, since when is i7-3610QM a triple core? Also this is the Asian version, not the international one.
Who knows, maybe the 7970M will show up in the North American version.
Samsung hasn't got much time, I am buying within a few weeks, and if no NA anoucement forth coming then its a Mythlogic lappy for me.
A 7870M would be very close to 675, remember its just a rebranded retreaded last gen card. -
That better be a typo.. the 7870m is slightly slower than the current offering with 675M. If not, i'm convinced Samsung has truly lost themselves.
-
7870M lol wow if that is right I just cant face palm hard enough to knock myself out so I do not have to live through this misery.
-
yeah and i read that its only available in the yellow color also..
what the hell is going on? the price seems to have bumped up $500+..for a 7870m? what the hell is that? -
-
on that engadget report of the "new" Samsung Gamer laptop. Not a 7970m, a smaller sized screen and a yellow color, all for what equates to over $2600 here in the states, lol. Pass.
-
-
looking at the stats they say its 21% slower then the gtx 675m AMD Radeon HD 7870M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
-
but this shows way diff story PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - High End Video Cards
-
lol o its the desktop one they r talking about lol noobs

right, to clear things up, engadget have done a terrible job with this post, it is highly inaccurate... (unfortunate, they usually are very good, and this will harm samsungs rep..)
if you look at the source (translated here) it is not the 14.3" engadget claim it to be, it is the same 17.3 inch chassis...
now the google translation is inaccurate, like where is says triple core, which is probs a translation of 3rd gen core-i, or something, but there is an image, which is untranslated...
it does show a 17.3", same as current gamer, but unfortunately does state the 7870m rather than the promised 7970m...
i assume they've chosen this due to cost... (i heard a lot on this thread in the past about current 7970m drivers being messy and that might be why they've delayed it... is this also true to the 7870m drivers, or are they solid? as this could also be why...)
i know people are complaining about it being a poorer last gen card rebranded, but so is the 675...
it appears to me that the choice of the two laptops is a toss-up between if you want 3d+slightly better battery, or max gfx performance.
another difference is the HDD's. i was planning on getting the gamer and switching a 750 for an ssd. i had also thought that as i had the speed of the ssd, i could switch the other 7200rpm 750gb for a 5400rpm 1tb, but wouldnt have due to cost of new drive and unrequired spare drive.
...so all in all, the new hdd layout of 128ssd + 1tb 5400rpm works well for me....
but i cannot get over the cost...
a 128gb samsung 830 ssd, a 1tb 5400 and a 750gb 7200 are all around the same price, around £70ish i think, give or take £10, and as the ssd is samsungs own product, it would be a cheaper for them to incorporate... so this shouldnt affect cost...
i wouldnt have been surprised if a 7970m model cost £100-£150 more, but this is a 7870m, which i assume is of less value than the 675...
the glasses cost all, its not using an nvidia system like most gamers may be used to, its taking a leaf from their tv's. the panel will have an RF transmitter linked to it, and it uses the same samsung glasses as their tv's do, which are available for just £20 from highstreet retailers...
so why such a hike in the price? surely not just for the 3d privilege and gareish colours!
im hoping its due to a translation of currency...
for example, the ipad is known for having a consistent price from all retailers, which is (wifi-16GB-3rdGen) $499 USA | £399 UK, yet when u convert $499->£ it works out as £318!!
however, i would have assumed it would be cheaper in samsungs native country...
so to end this essay of my thoughts i have bored you all with...
This revision of the gamer is (potentially) alarmingly overpriced, which may provide us all with (potentially false)hope that its acutually a 7970m, a mistake from the marketing department.
we'll all find out soon anyway, apparently its released around the 14th august (today) or 17th-19th...
hopefully we'll also find out it comes in other colours too... like black lol -
AFAIK all the issues with 7870 are exactly the same with 7970M. Of course the issue is cost, this is a typical super stupid move by some exec. Then they sit around saying well the laptop didnt sell that well, it was probably too expensive. lol. Due to the fact that nVidia has had good lower end offerings though there just are not alot of people around here interested in things like the 7870M so you hear almost all the talk about the 7970M. But AFAIK enduro just messes stuff up at least on any intel system.
-
Samsung made a typo.
$2500 for this mid end GPU is outrageous
7870M isn`t capable of running 95% of the games on the 3D display
I think it is 7970M instead of 7870M. It better be -
If the 7870M is a rebrand of an older card (which one exactly?) my guess is the drivers won't be problematic. My thought for the driver issues was because of the new architecture of the 7900M series and them having trouble with solidifying it and getting Enduro working properly. I figured it was also because they rushed it out to beat nVidia to the punch. They probably sold quite a few 7970M's to early adopters since it came out before the 680M. And now we see it was a smart move as the 680M seems to have a slight performance advantage (and a ridiculous one when OC'd).
Putting a 7870M in there "seems" like a bad move. I can't imagine 3D performance at 1080p is very good considering it can't even compete with the 675M. It's actually making me even more glad that I pulled the trigger on the 675M version at $1760 rather than waiting around for the 7970M, because that was the ONLY reason I would even consider it. 120GB SSD is too small for me. I am going to go 512GB soon as I want ALL my game installs on it as well as the OS. Also, I have no desire at all to even use the 3D feature. One thing I am slightly sad about, though, is I won't have a source for an official samsung 7970M card for mine down the road when I decide the 675M isn't cutting it anymore.
Hopefully the US 3D version is toting the 7970M or 680M. I'm still holding out hope for the 680M for US 3D release, though the manual for my 675M US version clearly calls out a 7970M toting 3D model.

Anyone here know anyone who knows Korean? Can't we get someone to post a comment on their blog to verify this horrible news?
-
strange that it doesnt have 7970m..
SSD is added(128GB SSD+1TB HDD instead of 2x 750GB HDD)
Also i guess the RAM is 8GB with option to upgrade to 16GB

The german site works out to about $2300? I would easily pay that for a 7970M but whatever I guess they dropped the ball, also the german pic is in black so maybe it comes in black.

Well I've pretty much decided on the current model. It definitely meets my needs for the foreseeable future. I'm not in a "must have it tomorrow" situation and have another business trip coming up. So maybe if I wait bit the price on the current model will drop.
-
ok, so a bit more googling has found me some other stuff...
does anyone remember the 675 gamer having a couple of versiosn a bit diff, like one with 2x1tb hdds?
well, i feel as though the amd/ati version will have a fair few versions...
the gtx675 was model...NP700G7C-S01##
found some stuff by changing the end to s03
for example the best thing i found was this, 7970M, BLACK WITH 2x750GB at A VERY ATTRACTIVE PRICE!!!
same again here...
the strange thing is, it states the 1.5tb of storage as 5400rpm.
i also found this, a list of links for the s03 version, some yellow, some black, some with 7970, some with 7870....
so i feel like their will be multiple versions, im pretty confident with my hope now for a non-yellow 7970 version, so i feel ok
we'll soon find out! -
Ineresting, the S03 model also gets you to the 7870 though, thats the model for 3d.
The link above would work out to about $2700 decent build but I can put together an alienware m17x r4 with a 680 for that price. So hopefully its lower in price. Its also about about $500 more than the 7870M version and lacks an SSD. -
The 7870 is a poor choice vs 7970, but it is GCN latest technology not a 675 rebranded last year tech. -
-
Guys how upgradeable is this laptop? I am strongly considering this over the XPS and Alienware due to their size and pricing. Are you guys happy with yours?
-
The jury is still out on upgrading the GPU. -
Any warranty extensions from Samsung on this?

I took the screen out to see if it is the same size connector as most others of the same size and it looks like it is to me. I think I am going to swap this screen out for a AUO B173HW01 V.4 screen I am familiar with as a fairly decent screen. I really like the colors etc on the stock screen but it has pixelation in the background often when watching downloaded tv etc. I see little cubes in the background and think I think it is the screen itself and not the graphics card. Good news is if you ever need to replace the stock screen they sell them dirt cheap. Here is a few poor quality pics of what it looks like behind the screen.
-
I'd like to download it and see what you are referring to, and see a different laptop not exhibit the issue. -
I was just watching downloaded Americas got talent from last night on Gom player and pixelation is obvious is the background and with quick movement. I will just try the AUO B173HW01 V.4 and see if it is the screen that is the problem.
-
That said, be sure to let us know whether the AUO panel solves the issue. -

gom player is some video player that is popular amoung asians, I have no idea what it offers over VLC.

I just find it easy to use without having to set up keyboard short cuts like the arrow keys volume up down and fast forward so its just convenience.

Hey guys, I have a question on the Samsung NP700G7C-S01PT : is this laptop MXM 3.0b compatible? I would like to switch to the upcoming 7xx nvidia or the 7970M!
Thanks!s -
-
I think the only option would possibly be to upgrade to a Samsung 7970m card, if that version of the G7C is ever released.
