Oh sorry, didn't see the link![]()
Oh damn, this is bad... I wanted to change my 675M when the 780M releases... Why did Samsung do this?![]()
Well, perhaps the GTX675M doesn't suffer this kind of modification... I would check if so, but I'm no laptop disassembly expert and I'm very afraid of messing things up by doing so.

No, that's a standard board..

By the way, just talked to a Samsung rep in live chat. She said it has a custom shape, but the way she told me that I don't know if I should really trust that answer, but I think that's what it all points out to. -
-
Damn it, I so wanted to upgrade to a 680M or the upcoming 780M...I hope that Samsung will provide a new Series 7 laptop with any of those GPUs and so they can fit in ours...

New video posted of the new Gamer 7 Yellow -
Guys, seems BH have the lowest price and tax free to order this. What about extended warranties? Any advice on that?
-
I bought it here though, it was a tad cheaper at the time. http://datavis.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?prrfnbr=650323 -
like clean install/software to get first ? im a pc gamer so i have had all the top gaming desk/laptops out there. i saw the screen on this and loved it? -
I kept as is, I simply ordered a SSD (sandisk extreme 240GB) and replaced one of the 2 750GB/7200 rpm I had inside....still to decide what to to with the express cache....

It comes with a dvd, doesn't that have everything you need? I would hope so in the case that there is a hardware failure with the main drive that has the recovery partition.

Guys, I just ordererd mine from B&H. I did have a Dell XPS 15 ordered but due to WIFI, throttling, screen issues I canceled it. I want to know about warranty coverage. What should I do to get a warranty past the 1 year mark?

as much as i wanted to keep waiting in hope of the 7970 version, samsung now have a cashback deal in the UK where i would get a further £100 off, so i took the plunge, knowing i'd still love this laptop as if it were my child lol
i have to say, its great! i thought i'd be dissappointed with the screen, as its been very overhyped on here and reviews, also i have a samsung 46ES8000 TV, which is very bright and colourful, and the AMOLED galaxyS3.. (yes, i love samsung) so i didnt think the screen would blow me away, but it really does, its extremely good. i'm also loving having 120hz, its soo damnn responsive! but i do have one quarm.... some1 above said they changed the screen for an AUO one... its true, this screen does blur and pixilate a little, its like an old lcd effect, or a low bitrate, high res video file kind of look, but it does it on 1080p high bitrate footage, that doesnt experience the same issue on my dell vostro's 1920*1200 screen... ill try it without "movie color" and see if that helps.
this is also my first time really writing much on the keyboard, and its sooo nice to type on. im having orgasms just over the sound of the clicks!
in other news, im really hoping someone makes a work around to use it in 3D, even with an nvidia kit if need be...
as a last point, this is HUGEE lol, even the power adapter! the psu could be cut in half with a hinge and replicate a (still chunky) netbook! -
This laptop is indeed a masterpiece! It's perfect for people that like to game but are also non-gamers in real life, so people will see that you have an awesome business laptop, and not a overly-gamer looking laptop like the Alienware
Plus, the backlight in the keyboard is about perfect!
The design of this Samsung is genius IMO, and I would take a 40% worse GPU (GTX675M vs 7970M) for a better more mature design any day -
Sorry guys, actually canceled my ordered and went with the XPS. Main reason I am buying a laptop is power but also portability and carrying that thing was just not going to be that easy.
Maybe in the future. -

5.8 lb, i7 3612QM, 8gb 1600mhz ram, Nvidia 640M 2gb (I don't play games often on my laptop since I have a powerful home desktop for that), 15.6" FHD WLED 1080P 1920x1080 (just as good as the Samsung I have been told but not 120hz). 4W Waves MAXX Audio speakers, 750GB 7200rpm HD 32Msata, blu-ray dvd-rw, chicklet backlite keyboard, alum casing like the Macbook pro, Magnesium palmrest with soft touch paint, 9 cel battery.
I will upgrade the ram soon, and maybe the HD to SSD but no hurry on that.
All set and done about $150 cheaper than the Samsung after the discounts, and ecoupon. -
yeah, to be fair, im not really a gamer either, so im not massively fussed about the 7970, but i would have liked the 3d aspect, i wouldn't have minded getting into producing some 3d video, so would have gone nicely with my 3d camcorder and tv's. that was the main reason i wanted it... hopefully someone will make a workaround of nvidia drivers to get the kit working though...
since having the laptop, ive not been using it for anything major, as im waiting for the delivery of a samsung 830 256gb ssd and i'm only going to have to reinstall windows again, so its been more a case of just trying stuff out on it....
i've noticed i've "started to game" a little, i think i wasnt a gamer before because i never invested into good graphics lol.
i love the laptop, tis great. its big, but to be honest, no more effort to hurl around than my old 17", the thickness makes it feel its just on a tiny laptop stand.
it does get marked very easily, the keys, touchpad and palmrest, and lid is extremely prone to acquiring marks, grease and dirt that u have no idea where came from.
it does annoy me that the 120hz only works on higher levels of brightness.
also, the lighting could be slightly better, the red of the WASD keys is noticeably lacking towards the right of the D... the blue bar that separates trackpad from buttons is brighter on the edges, and annoyingly, i have a tiny non-lit section in the middle.....
it looks like i'm being really picky, but it doesnt capture well on camera due to the light, its much more noticable and annoying..
other annoyances, gaming mode, they've made a full 1080p swf transition, and a full 1080p background, but the screensaver is sooo damn pixelated its disgusting!
gestures wise, i have likes and dislikes...
i like the 2finger scroll. i have very strong negative feelings towards apple as a company, but credit where credit's due, their 2finger scroll is flawless!
instead of scrolling in chunks of lines like other laptops, the samsung tries to be as smooth as possible, BUT if u let go of the trackpad mid scroll, allowing the computer to keep scrolling to a gradual halt, its quite jumpy and actually slows down your productivity in scrolling through a page. if you want to quickly get to the bottom of a long page with multiple scrolling swipes, you've actually got to scroll and stop before letting go and re-swiping... im sorry if this doesnt make sense..
what i really like however is,
"3 fingers up" = opens my computer SO USEFUL!
"3fingers down" = flick between tasks, much easier than alt-tab if using 1hand
"3fingers left and right" = back and forward...
i love these, but i feel like apple will have patents... hope they dont ban the laptop lol.
also, a question, has any1 noticed that theres noticably more heat and air throughput on the left vent than the right? are these two independent heatsinks? is one graphics and one cpu?
and has anyone worked out an order to reinstall drivers? when i get my ssd, i could just use the recovery disks, but i have a licence for win7pro, so would rather use that. i feel like this sandisk 8gb chache ssd is going to cause driver problems if not installed in the correct order... -

What do you mean your not a gamer in real life but you are a gamer. Is that like a closet gamer?
I swear this beastly computer is just for excel guys. lol -

Yes there is separate cooling for the graphics and cpu. As you noticed. The left contains the heatsink for the gpu and the right is the cpu. Due to the fact the gpu produces more heat it's more noticeable. My Asus G73JH and 53SW was the same way, though reversed. So it's not entirely new to me. But I know others this may be the first time. It is a smart design and helps keep things cooler when compared to the single vent system. Compared to my other laptops this is a really nice one and I love it. The only true concern I have is: How long will the Express Cache last? I'm sure it'll last for the time I own the laptop (a couple of years at least) but I do worry about what happens when it degrades in performance just like any other flash chip will over time. Anyone hear about a life expectancy on the Cache System? And if it'll cut down on performance once it dies? Maybe disable it? (How would I do that? Specially if I install an SSD.) Other than that nothing else bad for me. -

Is anyone having issues with the backlight/brightness of the screen only having on/off functionality? The slider does nothing until you hit 50% and then the backlight cuts off and there is no visibility.
-
can the cpu be replaced?

To check Hz, right click any empty area of your desktop and select Screen Resolution, Click Advanced Settings, the Click the Monitor Tab. Select 60Hz from the dropdown box under Screen Refresh rate. Hope that helps. -
Huge help. I have 120hz for gaming. But I'll turn that off except for playing LoL. Thanks a ton.
-
anybody tried to change cpu? Changing 1 of the 2 hard disks i was looking and it seems on socket....thank!

Another problem I had was using usb to my high quality dac for audio the sound would begin to flutter. I nailed it down to Samsung's power management software. I did get the sound right turning off a lot of the so called Samsung software features. For now I decided to remove all the Samsung software. Besides being able to turn the keyboard lights to a nice dim level I don't think I really want any of the Samsung software if it is going to screw more things up than help.

really to bad Samsung held off so long on 7970 version, I have tossed in the wait towel and ordered a new Sager from Mythlogic, Nyx1712. End of day wasn't much more then the samsung would have cost me, and I picked up the matte 72% screen upgrade as well as 512GB SSD main drive. The SSD upgrade after samsung purchase would have driven it to near 3k and thats what I am in for now with taxes and shipping.

My trackpad likes to say f you I wont work every 2 weeks or so.

Just wanted to weigh in here, as I've had this laptop since may. I love it. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I'm considering putting in a SSD. I kinda want it to be Samsung brand, but the 512gb Crucial SSD for $399.00 is looking good. I will still never give up on my quest to make this thing do 3D, either output to my 3D TV, or using the nvidia 3D kit (with I.R. emitter and glasses). This laptop is capable, and the 675m is listed as capable according to nvidia. My vids can be seen on YouTube "urmombentover" . . I fixed the issue I was having with my F1 key!
-
where can you find a series 7 gamer with a 512GB SSD?
-
Oh, also, can this laptop do SATA 3 (6gb/sec)? I need to know this.
-
-
-
7 gamer can't do raid, and I cannot replace OD with drive, and I do not think it has user replacable mstata drive. Do not get me wrong, its a slick looken machine but not in same league as a custom build, and time is up, I need a laptop.
So Mythlogic was my final choice. They are a little more expensive then normal Sager, but they are not just a reseller, they are custom builders using sager base parts, so they costa bit more, but in my humble opinion worth it. -
For me, RAID was inconsequential as a single SATA3 SSD is far and away fast enough. I only play games on it. -

Well I would call this 120Hz screen anything but a benefit. It is just plain worse on tv,movies and even games. Anything with quick motion and there is the worse screen door effect I have ever seen and sometimes not even. Unless I got a bad or poorly calibrated screen from the factory I can't see the 120Hz being useful to anyone considering how much worse it is than 60Hz on this laptop. Another couple days and I will have a new screen to try.
