    Hi guys,

I just bought a Series 7 Gamer with 1TB HD (2x500), 8 GB, GTX 675M and i7 3630Q. I love it, but today I noticed when I press the keys on the left side of the keyboard, the keyboard bends down. Especially the W, S, X, E, R, D, F, C, V. Is it normal? This doesn't happen with numpad keys or arrow keys or the other keys on the right side.

    Thanks.

It is normal for there to be flx on the left side of the keyboard. I haven't seen a fix yet for it. I personally tried dual sided thin tape on the side but the backing of the keyboard is not firmly attached to the keyboard so the flex still existed.

Oh I did find it but it's nowhere near as active as this one and my question hasn't been answered. The other thread is more about getting ExpressCache working rather than what we can do with the iSSD, ExperssCache and IRST on this notebook when using a dedicated SSD as your C Drive.

Hello - I'm new to this forum and new to the Samsung Series 7 Gamer!!
I have bought an NP700G7C-SO1UK with windows 7
However, I took advantage of the upgrade to windows 8 - and I'm not sure if I have done the right thing!!
I have updated everything with SWUpdate and also using the windows update service - however the system still seems a little slow.
Is this just windows 8 - or is it because my pc wasn't natively setup for windows 8?

Also - when I use the mode dial - the system goes into the 'turbo' mode, and the background changes etc, but then if I switch back to say balanced mode - the background image is still that of the targeting reticule, instead of changing back to my personised theme.
Is this the same on a windows 7 system? (as I didn't try it before upgrading to win8)
Is changing the background image/theme back to normal something that isn't compatible with windows 8?

    Would appreciate anyones thoughts.
    Thanks

Thanks for the info. Today I went to the store again and checked another unit, it also had the flex.

I bought a 240 gb Intel SSD 335 today and used Samsung Recovery "Disc Copy" option to copy the primary HDD into the SSD. And then I removed the primary HDD and replaced it with the SSD. Everything went well and the system is working now but it takes forever to update the apps or drivers using SW Update, Store Update or Windows Update. I have a good connection and my other laptops have no trouble downloading/updating etc. What could be wrong?

Also I see a 7,46 GB uninitialized disc under Disc Management. Is that the iSSD? If so is it ok for me to initialize and use it? Should I initialize it with MBR or GPT?

    Thanks...

Mine has flex too on the same side of the keyboard, not a deal breaker but at this pricetag you expect a rock solid keyboard.

I would like to know what to do when you first boot the laptop. Should I make recovery disks. I wonder if there is a guide to make a clean install of Windows 7?

    Greetings!

I just recently got my Samsung Series 7 Gamer NP700G7C-S01US from Amazon w/ Windows 7 Premium.

My question is how come when I dial towards Turbo Mode the theme doesn't change 1 bit but the Turbo Mode Light indicator lights up after toggling. Is there something I missed or I need to setup?

Secondly my package says 1.5TB for disk space but it only displays 750GB, then another 750GB unallocated disk space. How can I format the unallocated diskspace and make use of it?

    Thanks

Yes that is the iSSD.Since you are using a rtue SSD for boot, yes you can use the iSSD for other things. Just be sure express cache si not using it. As far as updates, yes Samsungs sites tend to be slow.

1.) install ModeShift for the themes etc.
2.) the total 1.5TB is the 2x 750GB drives. So yes it should be safe to now allocate the drive space.

    Hi

I thought I'd post my experiences of migrating the OS to a new SSD - the Samsung 830 256GB. It was a pain, and I made a lot of mistakes, so I thought a description might help others. Apologies for the long post, but I wanted to be thorough, to try and help people attempting the same thing, and maybe see what other people did differently (and better).

I used an external USB 3.0 housing for the SSD, which worked well and seems like a good investment for the future (it was very cheap). It also allowed me to transfer files manually from the old C: drive when I was done. I did a full system backup using Windows system image (D: drive), and another using Samsung Recovery Solutions (to an external HDD in the second USB 3.0 port).

At first I planned a straight migration. I used Windows system image first, attempting to do a straightforward install from the backup on the D: drive. I then learnt that it is impossible to do this if the source drive is bigger than the target drive, even if the amount of data on the source will fit on the destination drive (?)

I then tried partition-resizing software (Macrium), but I continued to have difficulty getting the drive contents across. It may have been the limitations of the software (free) - it just didn't offer sophisticated enough options for what I was doing.

I then found a highly rated, well-reviewed piece of software called Paragon Migrate OS to SSD. What could be more perfect? It wasn't free, but it wasn't expensive, and it trundled away overnight transferring everything, recreating partitions - the lot. Great. Put new SSD into the C: drive slot and fire her up.

Windows loading screen, then black screen with error:
    0x000000e
The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

I tried the transfer again on a now newly formatted drive; same result. Paragon support was very prompt, suggesting lots of workarounds, but none made any difference. Square one.

So now I decided just to do a clean install of Windows on the new drive. Before I did so, I saved all the software drivers on a separate drive. This is particularly important because when you clean install Windows you have no network adapter driver, so can't access the Internet or home network.

I then used *another* program, PCMover Home, to transfer everything over. I needed to use a second computer for this, though, as it's PC->PC software, not drive->drive. I transferred over the home network. This was the very best software I used - not only did it move everything, without hassle, it allowed me to select what I wanted AND it told me what software wouldn't work if I transferred it. One notable thing: it told me MS Office wouldn't work, but it let me move it anyway. It was there on the new drive, and I had to enter my product key again, but it registered just fine without me having to uninstall from the source drive. I don't know whether that's a happy coincidence, but it's nice :D

The big thing is that the Samsung proprietary software doesn't survive the move. That's where the driver software comes in handy - you can reload them manually. The best way to do this is to use Easy Software Manager before the switch and click Export software on the main page, exporting the software to the new SSD. Before the switch. Each piece of software gets its own folder with a setup file. That way I got everything back.

Two problems remain. One is that the new drive has no recovery partition, and so it won't install Samsung Recovery Solution. I don't know how to fix this.

The second is Mode Shift. The dial itself still works fine; the problem is the animations or, more specifically, the Game Mode animation. As the Game Mode animation starts, it immediately crashes ('stopped working'). The desktop background is there, the mouse pointer changes (and stays in Game Mode style even if you dial out of it), but the settings orb top-left freezes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Mode Shift to no effect. Tbh, I'm not sure I really need the animation, but the perfectionist in me wants everything 'just right' :)

So> It took me the better part of 10 days (on and off, though I work full-time, so I'm talking maybe a couple of hours per night, including endless browsing for the right software). In retrospect, I would have ordered the Samsung 830 with Norton Ghost for a few quid more, though I was put off by reviews. I tried a free demo of Acronis, but didn't like it...I don't know why. I think I was just in the dark about what would work; it was all trial and error and reviews and guides. Maybe with different software off the bat would have made the process less frustrating (and boy, was it frustrating. Why is it *still* so difficult to make such a transfer when more and more people are turning to SSDs? It may be me, though).

Finally: Samsung Easy Migrate is, I found, a good program, but only for moving data, not drivers/software/settings.

That's it...Hope this is of some use. And if anyone can tell me how to a) set up a recovery partition (if I need one) and b) rescue Mode Shift, I'd be grateful. And the SSD is fantastic :)

Somewhere in one of these threads are instructions from Dannemand that say:
To do that you'll have to put back the original disc with the recovery partition in order to make the tool, but once you have done it then you can run it to create a new recovery partition. However, an empty partition is no use by itself. You will need to copy the contents across somehow. Somewhere else there is advice from Dannemand about changing the attributes of the recovery partition to make the contents visible (and hence copyable). Do some Googling using a site:notebookreview.com keywords.

Check if there is a process called IntelliMemory running. If it is then it's probably the culprit. It seems to be some sort of caching program that grabs a lot of the spare RAM.

yea it is running. swupdate downloaded that. Is it something necessary/important? Does it use fixed amount of ram? (like 20%)

I think you will find that it uses a lot more than 20%. Uninstall it and you can see how much (you can always reinstall it if you want to). At one stage I installed it on my Series 9 but removed it once I saw its appetite for RAM. Exactly what it does is undocumented. If it is a caching program then the objective is probably to speed up disk access which might help if you have an HDD. However, if you load a program that needs a lot of RAM then getting IntelliMemory to hand some over may slow the system down.

True, TBH you should reallt never update bios unless there is something broke or something is added you just have to have. Unfortunately Samsung gives us nothing in the way of information towards fixes or enhamncements of the bios versions.....................

Edit; Still nothing new I can see in the BIOS screen. ETU still does not alow the +400 so unless you are having bios related issues, don't bother with the bios upgrade..............

Will Samsung received my laptop on Monday. Nothing updated until Tuesday night. I actually got worried and talked with Samsung Support and ended up emailing Intellisol (The company in Texas responsible for my laptop's repair, I live in Ohio and for shipping my laptop by ground it cost about $45, $50 after taxes. That also included about $1800 worth of insurance, since I won't chance it and if something happened to the laptop on the way, UPS would be paying for it.) The Samsung Rep said that the status wouldn't update on their website (Samsung's) and that I would have to email the other company. Will I did and then a few hours later I get an email yesterday from Samsung saying that they received my laptop and to click the Support ticket number to follow the repairs. (Guess the Samsung Rep was wrong.) Anyhow, I just clicked the link again and it says that the laptop is being repaired now. They hope to have it repaired by December 3rd. (It's November 28th now in case anyone was wondering. Anyhow, here's to hoping it will be actually repaired and get back to me soon. I've read some not so great stories about warranty repairs but then again, all companies seem to have those stories. It was just interesting that nothing updated until I sent a nice email to Intelisol and contacted Samsung about it. I am willing to post the email I sent to Intelisol if anyone wishes to see it, though it's pretty boring, just listing the technical stuff as will as issue and a little plea to try to get it done soon as I use my laptop for graphics design and stuff like that. Anyhow will post updates as I get them.

I agree, if they are mis-informing me, they could get into a lot of trouble, especially considering the cost of the laptop. I will be watching it like a hawk. Not that I don't have anything else to do, I do have my schoolwork and a life lol, but still. I invested $1800+ in this laptop and that's the most I've ever spent on one. (Bought Asus g series for the longest time, now they seem to have gone down hill some. That's why I gave Samsung a shot. (I never had to send my Asus in for warranty repairs.) So I am really hoping this is just a fluke. It seems not many users have had the issue I had. I'm gonna go ahead and give it a check and see if anything has changed since I am talking about it. If it has, I will post back an update. Otherwise the same status stands.

Hi, I just did an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro over my Windows 7 OS tonight and I am having a hell of a time trying to get the Samsung sw_update app to download and update all the software and drivers for Windows 8. It keeps saying it failed to connect to server. I got it to download and install a couple of drivers by retrying over and over but this is getting annoying. Samsung has dropped the ball on providing us the Windows 8 drivers as far as I am concerned. Why don't they just post them on their support downloads page? I hate using this swupdate utility of theirs as it is always slow and timing out and failing and not connecting to the server!!!!
As for the Windows Update, I've not noticed if it keeps turning itself off (in Windows 7 or 8). But I have not really paid attention to that aspect. I always occasionally go in an manually check and selectively install any Windows Updates on my own.

Is anyone else having problems running Samsung's swupdate utility? I am wondering if it is just my setup having the issue or is it widespread where everyone is having slow downloads or no downloads at all at this time?

Update: Well soon after I posted this question above, I just tried to run swupdate again and it has started downloading and installing some of the missing apps now... I don't know how long it will continue to run and install things until it fails again. It is about 02:15am EST right now so I guess a lot of people are sleeping and the servers load has lightend up enough for me to connect to it! We'll see if it will successfully download all the require Windows 8 software and drivers now.

Update status 2: Well it downloaded all the software items listed but the first file for the B;uetooth file just hung saying "Installing" while all the other software items downloaded. I waited and waited for it to complete but I was just sitting there forever on Installing the Bluetooth driver and never continued. I tried to cancel and it would not respond. So I shutdown and the Windows 8 failed to restart giving an error BSOD and dumped a core file. Then it restarted and I ran swupdate again. All the downloaded drivers and software files from previous run were gone and it said I had to download and install them again. So I hit download all and guess what? The damn Samsung servers were too damn busy or not available again and it keeps failing to connect. Will have to continue this some other time when Samsung gets their server act together.

Yes, the Samsung update server is temperamental. I gave up trying to download some updates for my X3B a few days ago. See here for my theory about the slow performance.

Hi - I had a lot of issues doing this as well. In the end, I found that instead of using the 'one click install' with SW update - if I installed each driver/software individually, it worked and was successful.
Interestingly - SWupdate has today iodentified a new update to relieve the server issues - but ironically I cannot connect to the server to download it!!!

I would be very interested to hear your issues/thoughts having upgraded to windows 8 - and if you get system hangs like me or oddball things like sometimes when restarting, the usb ports not working until I restart again - or if your modeshift dial works in windows 8?
(my modeshift works, but does not return the wallpaper/theme back to my settings - it stays on the 'turbo' theme)

I have not been able to connect to the server still this morning. It says cannot connect to the server. I tried individually downloading a single update at a time and get the same thing. One time it does connect and trys to begin downloading and installing but it just hangs there forever and never completes. Terrible.

I did not do a fresh install of Windows 8 and chose to just upgrade over my existing Windows 7 OS. It did the usual thing flagging incompatible software and drivers and removed them.
After the install of Win8 finished I began checking for both Samsung Updates using their swupdater and MS Win8 updates. MS Win8 updater successfully downloaded updates and installed them. Samsung swupdater failed over and over again and after it hangs during an install it seems to leave corruption behind. Because I'm having issues restarting Win8 at times where it will just sit there saying Restarting but never shuts down and restarts. I have to hold the power switch down to force a shutdown. Upon rebooting, it shows an error message that it encountered a problem during Restarting. I just let it restart and begin using Win8 again.

The Samsung software programs that swupdate says it successfully downloaded seem to start installing showing the status bar but it just sits there never completing! I have to force exit swupdate each time wondering how much it is corrupting my new Win8 OS environment. Terrible.

Last night when I did get swupdate to run and download all the software files it hung installing the first updated package (which was the Bluetooth update) and thus I had to force exit swupdate. When I restarted swupdate again, it listed all the software packages again to be updated since it never did install them from the previous download session.
Today I figured that since it did say it successfully downloaded those packages last night during the one successful session connection I got, I decided to search through my "Temp" directories to see if I can find the downloaded files. I did find them but they were all named under long folder names like Registry Key numbers. I looked up the readme text files in each folder to see what driver they were and renamed the folders. I am in the process of seeing if I can execute the setup.exe install programs in each folder to install them manually.
So far executing the install for Intellimemory update started but is once again just sitting there with a status bar stuck at about 70% complete and going nowhere. It seems stuck and I am about to force kill it. Samsung updates for Win8 suck. I don't know if they are even looking into these issues. Terrible.

My mode switch seems to work partially. After the initial install the Gamer Mode screen was not showing up upon first boot up while I was in Gamer Mode. But when I toggled the mode switch between the levels and then went back to Gamer Mode, it seems to have activated the Gamer Screen and it shows up now when I switch to it. The animated Mode Shift icon also reappeared on my desktop at this point. But when I open the Mode Shiftt and try to set any settings in there, none of them take effect (like screen Brightness, etc.).
Still trying to get my Samsung software updates installed and hope that Win8 will stabilize after I finally get them installed.
If all else fails, I am thinking of wiping out my entire SSD disk and reinstalling fresh. sigh!

Update: Today 11/30/2012, the Samsung swupdate servers were back online and I was able to download all of the Windows 8 update drivers and software utils they offer. I installed the new Mode Switch version and now all the mode switch adjustments are responding and working. The only difference with this new Win8 version is that there are no longer any status display messages and icons that flash up on the screen whenever you switch modes or press any of the Function keys. They still need to update and fix up these new software utils for Win8 it seems. But at least the functionality is working.

Hi, I just got the NP700G7C and laptop is generally great so far. The one thing that bugs me though is that the WASD area of the keyboard feels really warm when gaming. And even when I'm not gaming I notice that it's warmer (though not as hot as when I'm gaming) than the rest of the keyboard. Does anyone think a laptop cooler will help? If so, which cooler do you use or recommend to use with this laptop? Thanks.

Greetings Series 7 Gamer owners. I am ready to pull the trigger on this as a gift for my son - an avid gamer (COD, Skyrim and Minecraft are current favs). It was this or an ASUS model. Currently this has the slightly better GPU and I am worried about the repair history for the ASUS models.
As I have read so many of your posts I don't see anyone talking about the latest build of this NP700G7C-S02US - amazon link: Amazon.com: Samsung Series 7 Gamer NP700G7C-S02US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories This one is going to have Win 8 pre-installed instead of 7. I was thinking of getting an SSD as the primary drive. If I do that, what are the steps when I take this new unit out of the box? For example, do I need to set up the laptop first then clone the primary spinner drive to the SSD? Thanks.

not too many, if any, here have had success in cloning the primary to a SSD. Almost all have ended up with a new install. I believe this primarilly is the iSSD and drive 0 allocation and also the 750GB original size drive. He may, or may not like Win8 and want to revert to win7. If so it may be best to try out win 8 then if he decides to revert just install Win7 to the SSD.

The advantage of the newer system is the 3630 over the 3610. Although there is only a small speed bump, it is a bump up still the same. The GTX 675 is an awesome GPU, it would have been nice to see the GTX 675mx or the 680 though. The good news though is since there is so little change the bios updates and support should extend on our current systems.

Thanks for the reply. Good point on Win8 vs 7. I have yet to use it myself and of course there are mixed reviews out there. So I'll need either a Win8 or a Win7 disc to do a new install to a primary SSD. Does the unit ship with discs or do you need to boot it first and burn to DVD the OS back up copies?

Also thanks for speaking out on the 675. I can't tell you how much I have sweat this decision between higher priced systems that do have the 680. While we all know that would be nice to have, you do need to draw the line at some point in the wallet. Plus he is moving from an older desktop with a 512mb card so I know the 675 will be a big boost for him.

The Win8 key most likely will not work on Win7, he may have to contact either Samsung or M$ to get a reversion key. My system came with a disk but I burnt one from the restore program too. I think the one you burn is more than just a win7 disk but the one that came with the system is just a win 7 disk, no software.

The 680 is a much better gaming GPU. As you mentioned alot more money too. The 675 if great though. I came from a 260m and this card is about 2x times faster in just about everything. If this were a true 3D machine the 680 would be a must have but at 2D it should play everything out right now decently.

Can not believe I am the only one experiencing this issue. I am starting to believe that Norton is causing this issue, but I have no idea. Basically, Windows updater is being turned off. I click the red flag in the bottom right and it asks "choose how windows updates" (I'm paraphrasing). I click "install updates automatically" which turns windows updater back on. About 10-20 minutes later, it pops up again. Can someone help? Should I uninstall and re install Norton?

On another topic, anyone notice the left side throws out a decent amount of heat (not a scary amount, and the fans are definitely doing a good job) while the right side doesn't throw much heat at all. It's safe to assume the left is where the GTX675M is located and the right is where the i7 is located... ?

Though this model does not do 3D, I have been looking at 3D monitors with Display port connections. There are only like 2 of them listed that are Nvidia 3D vision certified.
Anyways, how well do you think our rig could handle 3D? With everything completely maxed out on Grand Theft Auto IV, I was only getting about 25 frames per sec. I had to tune down a couple of the settings to get higher FPS (still looks damn good and I'm getting about 50-70 which to me is playable). Max Payne 3 runs very well on this rig with most settings maxed out. Not to mention, that game is extremely violent/gorry, which is awesome. What kind of FPS are you guys getting on certain games? Care to share?

You are correct. Left (facing the laptop like normal) is the gtx675M vent, right is the i7 vent.

An update on my repair status. From what I read of the work done so far is nothing was done, yet, they labeled 3 parts as aging and didn't show anything about replacing any parts. Yet it says repaired. I know the cpu was heating up majorly when I ran Prime 95 to the point of causing it to overheat. (It never did that before, and the room temperature had never been changed. It seemed that no air was blowing out the cpu side while under load. Thus made me believe the cpu fan had stopped working. I am waiting for it to come back to me and we'll see. I know though something wasn't right with the laptop and I wouldn't have paid $52 to ship it unless there was an issue. So now I just have to wait and see. I attached pictures to show the status. From what I gather, the parts that are aging, where the cpu fan, the mainboard and looks like the gpu. (Google search of the part numbers really didn't give me much.) Maybe someone else can gather what everything means from the screenshots and enlighten me.

Does Samsung sell extra AC cords? I'd like one for home and one for travel. Could not find a part number on the Samsung website.

Hello again. after installing Windows 8 upgrade on this laptop and running the Windows Performance Index check, it measures 7.4 compared to 7.9 when I was on Windows 7.The slow down is on the Nvidia Graphics driver which measures 7.4 on Windows 8 now. The CPU result is now at 7.8 where I believe it attained 7.9 when I was on Windows 7. Anyone else notice a lower performance index when switched over to Windows 8? I thought they said Windows 8 was supposed to be faster and improve on performance. This does not indicate that it is any faster.

oops, I just found an old screen shot of my Windows 7 setup and it shows my CPU rated at 7.6 not 7.9 like I wrote in my previous post. So Win 8 actually made an improvement for the CPU to 7.8 now.
But the Nvidia Graphics score is lower under Windows 8 than Windows 7 on my laptop. Win8 scores it at 7.4 and Win7 scores it at 7.6. It might be the change in drivers I guess.
So my overall Win 8 score is 7.4 now whereas before my Win 7 overall score was 7.6. It was the Samsung SSD drive I installed that scores 7.9 index that made me think the overall score was 7.9 under Windows 7. But it was only 7.6 under Windows 7.
So loss of .2 points going from Win 7 to Win 8 due to the Graphics driver score. ( I tried both the latest Nvidia Beta driver and the official Samsung Win8 sw_update driver and both measure the same 7.4 under Windows 8). Oh well.

1.) Only one here I have seen with one sent in recently but it is not back yet.
2.) if there is static and sound reduces it USUALLY is a sign of a bad internal conection.
3.) for 3 HDD's you would need to remove the DVD and place a caddy..........

There's also a "no available stock message" as if they are waiting for parts. Perhaps the "aging" means waiting for parts and is a reminder that the notebook repair is getting overdue.

If you want a complete genuine Samsung PSU then Google for the SEC part number on the bottom of your PSU. Searching for a genuine Series 7 PSU should also find you something. Personally I would look for a universal PSU from a reputable 3rd party brand that includes a range of power tips (include the Samsung one). If all you want is the cable between the mains socket and the PSU then these are a standard part that you can find at your local electronics shop.
