It's not the UEFI. My cpu began showing 90C+ temps again while downloading windows updates and watching a youtube video. I'm beginning to think the fan is going bad or has gone bad. The room is about 21C. My cpu never hit these temps before even when I ran prime95 when I first bought it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Though ultimately I think I may need to send the laptop for warranty repair. :(

Download a fan monitor or something, how fast is it running under load?

CPUID HWInfo will show the gpu fan spinning at 100% (even though it's not loaded at all.) Cpu fan is non existent. Tried Speedfan and it won't show any fan controls.

After a long talk with a service rep, we deduced that the fan has either stopped working or isn't running to par. My lappy needs to be sent in for warranty repair. :(

Something definately wrong. With WEI on Windows 7 I only see 79c tops on one of the cores and 76c for the package. This is with the i7-3820 too so the clocks are a bit higher. Were there issues before the win8 install?

None that I saw, then again it could have been a coincidence. Which it most likely is. As the fan is controlled from the BIOS level. (When you use fan control software it reads everything from the BIOS pretty much.) After doing a complete restore to Windows 7 it still heats up. The temps your getting is around what I used to get. Now it shows me getting into the 100C (Considering the i7-3610 has max temp of 105C and is hitting 101C on WEI, which is never did before.) I agree, something is wrong and it's not Windows. The service rep after a few times of taking her time with a response. (Probably checking with some techie or her boss.) Finally said that something was wrong that I couldn't fix with a simple Windows Re-Install or by resetting the BIOS. I figured and they seemed to agree it's the fan. As I can not feel any air coming out the cpu side. It get warm, but isn't blowing. Just for a test I ran Prime 95 with a good laptop cooler underneath. I used the basic blend test (Not the maximum heat test which I think that is call In-Place FFT's) and the cpu hit 101C, That was the max temp. No air was blowing out the back (cpu side) like it should have been.) I stopped the test as soon as I saw the 101C and shut the machine down. My room was an ambient temperature of 22C (or about 72F). The laptop is usable for standard stuff. But even then will get uncomfortably warm (max I saw was 85C). But that is NOT what this computer was made for, it was made for gaming which I can't do. So I am in the process of cloning the SSD I put in there and replacing it with the original HDD. I have a open ticket and was giving the Service address to send it to.

HFM, how is windows 8 running for you? How much does it cost to upgrade. Also, I would only be interested if I can do a clean install, i think. I went to the Samsung site and did not see any newer drivers for Windows 8. where are they?

For those waiting, I will be posting a vid soon to my YouTube page "urmombentover" to discuss my troubles with the Nvidia 3D vision 2 kit. So sorry for the major delay. I've been rather busy lately.

I purchased the upgrade to win8 pro for 14.99, ms was running that buy a PC between June and Dec or something deal. I love it! I upgraded 7. I really don't see the use in clean installing you are just going to waste time reinstalling your apps but to each his own. I used to be in that camp. ;)

The link to SWUpdate for win8 is a huge alert on the gamer 7 support page. It's an app you run after installing win 8. There are options within it to dump all the driver install archives and executables on your HD if you needed, but the app seemed to do a good job of it.

So what you're saying is it just installed Windows 8 over top of Windows 7? Okay, well if it worked for you, I'll do that. Is that deal still going on? Also, "The link to SWUpdate for win8 is a huge alert on the gamer 7 support page. It's an app you run after installing win 8" can you elaborate more on this or post a link?

Hi All, I've completed a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on my S7 Gamer and apart from the SW Update install of all available updates and adding the newest nVidia software for the 675M I've installed nothing.

I've had 1 BSOD (BugCheck Reboot which MS do not have anything useful to say about on TechNet) and Windows Updates are taking an age to download and apply. I updated my desktop in a fraction of the time so it's not a network problem.

I was just wondering is anyone else has had these sorts of issues since installing Windows 8?

    Cheers, @lbert

Is it possible to upgrade the GPU to the 680m?
Also is it possible to double the RAM to 32?
I'm only wondering out of curiosity. I'm not actually considering these upgrades at this point, nor do I feel like this laptop needs it.

No on the cpu from what I understand. And you can easily go to 24GB ram by replacing the two accessible sodimm in the slots on the bottom of the unit. To go to 32 you need to remove the keyboard to access the two sodimm slots on the topside of the mainboard. That part is much more involved.

So the GTX675m is soldered in there? Same with the i7?
Hfm, have you opened this bad boy up yet? I need to get in there and do a little dusting. And although the cat in the house is never allowed in my room, her darn hair is in the air and I'm certain it's probably sucked up a little bit.

My understanding is the GTX 675m is not soldered. The issue lies in the fact the vBios is attatched to the bios itswelf and not seperate on the MXM boards themselves. The i7 is replaceable, mine came with an i7-3820 installed. The bios though greys out the +400 and other boosts in ETU. Ram is expandable with disassembly up to 32 GB but remember to upgrade the OS to support the extra ram.

So to anyone interested in 3D gaming there may be hope, but not sure.
In regards to Nvidia 3D vision, I was told that the reason the sterioscopic 3D menu within the Nvidia control panel does not appear is because there needs to be a signature in the Bios. Basically Nvidia makes deals with certain manufacturers to have 3D vision capable laptops, and this samsung is not one of them. But maybe someone could take those aspects of the Bios needed from another laptop and bake it into our Bios? Here's a thread I was looking at Series 7 Gamer (NP700G7C) - voltmod for Nvidia GTX 675m - Page 2
Now, if you look in the service manual that was posted above, I came across the mention of 3D capability (probably referring to the NP700G7A). It looks like Samsung uses their own Bluetooth 3D glasses, and software by TriDef3D (which explains why Nvidia and samsung haven't partnered on this). If one were to acquire the 3D Bluetooth samsung glasses, and then get the software, and I'm assuming there is more software in order to make it pair, one could trick it into working? The model we're looking at in particular is the NP700G7A, which seems to have launched in UK, but not here, though I could be wrong. PC Licensed Products | TriDef 3D
If anyone could help me shine some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The problem with the Samsung glasses is they interface on a proprietary BT and we not only do not have this module and even the header for it is not soldered to the main board. There may also be missing electronics on the main board. This would mean then even someone brave enough to obtain a module and solder the header on could still be SOL.............................

Thanks for the answer, but I have no idea what any of that means, lol.. I should have guessed it would be a lot more involved than simply getting the glasses and some software.
How do you know all that other stuff you mentioned is needed? It's not just simply a driver?

I have the glasses. I was hoping they would interface with the stock BT (on the box given with the original ATI card the are labled "PC") but they do not. I then investigated from our manual what was needed from the older ATI version. When I pulled our system appart I saw the header, the pin out connector, was not even on our board. You can see though where the connector would have been soldered to on the board. Now to this connector a proprietary BT module attaches to the main board on the ATI version that interfaces with the 3D glasses.

SATA III SSD's should all be compatible. The issue is getting the OS loaded and/or cloned. New installs are pretty easy but cloning an original 750GB drive down to SSD size can be a bit of a pain. With a new install you have to install also features and drivers and loose the pre loaded BR software............

thx.. was gonna do a clean install
i assume the driver is installable with the new SWUpdate?
the BR (blueray?) software is the Cyberlink things? Never use that so can probably skip it..

For cloning, would it be easier to do with the software "Norton Ghost" that is available together with that SSD purchase + ~$15 more?

    Hi Folks,
Is there any report up to now where the screen of this notebook turns off when running at 120Hz and you disconnect the external Power supply?
I noticed today that I booted my laptop up and I hadn't connected the power and it displayed the Samsung initial screen and the Windows 8 loading screen but when it came to display the OS login screen it went blank.
Plug in the PSU cable, it comes alive again.
Running Windows 8 with all the all the latest Samsung Upgrades, full windows updates. nVidia driver 306.97.
Is this most likely to be a limitation of the hardware or a driver issue?
I never tried this when I had Windows 7 running so if anyone with Windows 7 could switch to 120Hz and remove the power cable and let me know what happens with the screen it would be appreciated.

Edit: It only happens in any other mode than Gaming. If I switch out of gaming mode, when at 120Hz, with the PSU off or disconnected, the screen switches off.

    Thanks, @lbert

Is it lost if SRS 5 is used to make a backup disk with all the supplied drivers and software?

Acronis TrueImage can clone to a smaller size of storage device provided the actual content is less than the target device's capacity (ie it can clone a 1 TB HDD containing 200GB onto a 256GB SSD). I would hope that other cloning programs can do the same.

Hello, I've owned this nice laptop for about 6 months now and am very happy with it. However I have a question about viewing cable TV copy protected content error that I am getting when trying to view my premium cable TV channels using Windows Media Center TV connected to my HDHomerun Prime cable TV tuner. All the specs that I can find say that this NP700G7C-S01US laptop is HDCP compliant. But I cannot watch those copy protected contents on the internal laptop display. It gives the message: "The display device is not supported for copy protected content.". I can connect an external HD TV set via the HDMI port, turn off the internal display and it plays videos just fine on the HDMI port but if I try to turn on the internal laptop display (along with the external HDMI display), it gives that error message also. I have downloaded and installed Nvidia's latest vidieo driver and tried that too. Still gives the error message. So what's up with that? Anyone else run across this symptom? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit OS. I would think that this expensive laptop with powerful graphics and video and such a nice screen display would not be barred from viewing copy protected (HDCP) content on its internal screen! Samsung what have you done!

    Any solution to this?

I think you need to run the latest driver available from the M$ update, not nVidia's site. Since HDMI works though it may not be the drivers....................

Not sure what you mean by M$ update but if you mean Microsoft Updates, I have all the latest updates. I don't think it is the Nvida driver update(s) that is at fault but something peculiar to either Samsung or Microsoft/Intel interoperablilty. So what I want to know is anyone else having or have run into this issue? That will tell me for sure if it is just my Windows 7 environment that is not working correctly or if Samsung indeed did something to prevent this laptiop for use for watching copy protected content on the built in display. I cannot imagine why they would cripple it after providing such a nice display and all the power this machine has for gaming videos.

HDCP also needs driver support. I know the video driver of the M$ update is HDCP compliant. I think the whql nvidia drivers are as well. Since you can HDMI your video is probably ok.

I suspect between the non samsung specific video driver version and the generic monitor driver HDCP compliance is lost..............

Well, I have uninstalled the Nvidia video driver package and it automatically installed the default Microsoft VGA drivers upon rebooting. I tried to use the Windows Media Center and it would not even start up showing error that the video drivers are not installed that support it.
I had also installed the official Samsung Nvidia driver and tried to see if the HDCP was broken. It was. Still gives error message saying that the "Display device does not support copy protected content." . So I chalk it up to Samsung did some silly blocking of viewing this copy protected content on their internal laptop display. But my thinking is if they provided us with a BluRay player, then they must have intended for us to be able to watch BluRay HDCP copy protected content on the internal display? so what gives here? I don't have a BluRay disc handy to see if I can play it and watch it on the internal display. I have to go find my BluRay discs which are buried in the house somewhere. In the meantime, is there no one on that has run into this issue with their NP700G7C-S01US laptop? Is mine defective I wonder.

I can tell you BR plays fine here. I put in Optimum's TV app and it plays fine as well. Is it possible the application you are using just is not allowing the monitor? I do know with the Optimum app they do not alow outside monitors..................

    Hi All,

Until I get the funds to buy an SSD for my machine I want to use the Cache technology with the 8GB SSD to get better performance.

A few questions about SSD Caching that have me seeking answers if you'd be so kind as to reply:

    - Is the SSD Cache on the 7 Gamer controlled by ExpressCache or Intel RST (I see both on the recovery partition).
    - Does ExpressCache require Intel RST to function correctly or is it an entirely separate product?
    - Is it possible to select which of the 2 drives to accelerate with ExpressCache (if so how do you do that)? My view is once I have an SSD for my main drive, I'll want to accelerate the mechanical drive with the SSD cache but I cannot see a way to tell the app to use the other drive so was thinking is this actually linked to the physical location of the SSD itself and the SATA connection it uses?

    Thanks,
    @lbert

Anyone know how to disable the Function Key Shortcuts on this laptop/ windows 8? I stops use of F keys in games and is incredibly frustrating!

I started a totally new thread on this issue as it does not seem to be catching much attention in this forum thread for gamers.
As I said the application I am using is Windows Media Center that comes with Windows 7 OS. The same application setup on my other laptops works just fine (one is a HP-DV6 and the other is a Sony VAIO laptop). Only this Samsung cannot display the HDCP cable TV HDCP contents on its own internal screen. For such an expensive high end laptop that its supposed to be, I cannot see why the internal display is flagged as not supporting HDCP copy protected content! It should be able to and I want to get to the bottom of this issue. I was so happy with everything else about this laptop but this is now a disappointment if I find out that Samsung crippled this laptop for watching cable TV HDCP content in some way.

Does having no RAID mean the Intel Rapid Storage technology is not possible?

If it can work then what BIOS/ registry settings are required?

I've tried to get this working for a few days and pretty much given up.

Ok if you mean IRST as in using the 8GB ExpressCache like a MSATA drive then no and you would not want too. The 8GB Express cache drive is a slow iSSD. While it is better at small file reads than a HDD it is no where near the speeds required for IRST. More like what can be done with Windows ReadyBoost or the similar functioning proprietary ExpressCache.

The issue with the iSSD is what to do with it when a true SSD is used for the boot drive. There are plenty of other threads going over that issue though..................

I just wanted to say my lappy is being sent to the repair center. It should reach there in a couple days. (Monday for anyone in EST.) I live in Ohio and had to ship it to Forth Worth, Texas. I shipped in about 4 days ago. I didn't use 2 day or anything as it would have costed me a whole lot of money and I wouldn't have been able to insure the laptop. (Shipping via UPS includes $100 value insurance which we all know isn't enough.)

Anyhow a bad cpu fan is what we believe is causing the cpu to heat up badly. :( As the fan didn't seem to ramp up the rpm when the cpu got hot.

For now I am grounded to my Desktop and pulling my old Asus G72GX out of retirement, since I need portability. I'll report back once I hear from the service center and all that.

Yeah, tell me about it. But I really didn't have much of a choice, I can't replace a cpu fan in this laptop. (Will I could but I really don't feel comfortable doing it.) Anyhow, my Old Asus will have to do for now on portability. (It has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53GHZ 6GB DDR2 Ram, 320Gb HHD as primary and 500GB HDD as seconday, Nvidia GTX 260M 1GB GDDR3 GPU with a 1600x900 resolution display.) No where near the power my desktop has or the Samsung, but it's better than no portability at all.

Question. I might have to send my laptop to Samsung for repair. How long does it take for them to repair my laptop? How is the customer service? Do I have to pay for shipping to and from Samsung???

I'm having trouble with sound. It keeps muffling out, sound keeps cutting out, staticy noise. Can somebody please help?

Also, have another question. Can this laptop carry 3 HDD??? I want to keep the two HDDs but I also want to add an SSD...Let me know :). Thanx everybody!!

Thanks for the response, yes the thing I'm trying to understand is what the iSSD can be used for once the primary drive has been replaced with a TrueSSD.

I've been searching for info on options for days so if there are any links you know of can you post them please?

Any option that allows the iSSD to cache the remaining mechanical drive is what I'm after and I was trying to understand what customization ExpressCache has but it seems not possible to cache anything but the primary C Drive.

I already use IRST in my desktop with a 60GB SSD accelerating a 1TB WD Caviar Black and that makes a noticeable difference. I just couldn't get IRST to give me acceleration options in the control panel on my Samsung assuming because RAID is not supported and normally RAID setup in the BIOS is needed for IRST to work (although I saw an article stating ACPI setup drives could do IRST I can't get that working at all).

    Thanks

Hey guys! I have just upgraded to Windows 8! Everything works fine (i mean sound buttons etc)! However I have a couple of problems:

Problem 1: Whenever I close the lid to make it go into sleep mode, it keeps operating, tries to go into sleep mode but can't (HDD light keeps flashing during this stage and the screen is blank)! Then somehow it shuts down. Then when i operate it, it loads very slowly and a window appears saying "Your PC ran into a problem and restarted!". Then I looked at the details and saw that the name of the problem is "Driver_Power_State_Failure". This also happens when I try to restart it, it keeps saying "Restarting", the dots keep cycling but does not go further, then I need to turn it off by pressing power button!

Problem 2: I know it is a new operating system so it's normal for it to be BUGGY! But I think it's just too much! Sometimes it just freezes and I have to turn it off manually again!

There are no further updates neither from Microsoft nor Samsung! Are you guys experiencing these kinds of problems as well? Have you found a solution?

The iSSD is a SLOW write drive. It is a bit faster for reads than most HDD's. So it ends up being a good read cach, especially for small files, from the primary HDD. Neither Rady Boost nor Express Cache software allow the iSSD to cache the second drive. This would be usefull where the HSS was used with a smaller primary SSD so that games and the like could run from the HDD, hopefully someone at Samsung is listening.

For myself as of now I use the iSSD as a scratch drive to unzip installs and the like. Then I clear the drive etc. It has worked well for the purpose and lowers the writes to my SSD from copying/unzipping and the like................

While I can't comment on windows 8 specifically, how did you use the iSSD before? For standard usage it should have been being used by ExpressCache in windows 7 meaning the system was using the iSSD not the user.

Edit; there is an entire thread dedicated to getting your Express Cache back if that is what you are looking for.................
