They need a Haswell + 780M or 8970M or they should just not bother.

Either that or try to compete with Razer and gigabyte and do a nice thin and light one with a strong gpu and quiet effective cooling and a nice panel. If they can pull that off relatively fair priced and well built they can take that market.

Anyone having wifi issues after 8.1?

Should I try newest intel drivers?
I had issues with wifi then i rolled back to 15.6 and everything was fine now i am having drop-outs which lasts 3-5 secs like every 20 mins. It is not very importants but its there and it can sometimes be annoying while playing multiplayer games.

I was. "Forget" your network(s) by typing into a cmd prompt: netsh wlan delete profile name=[profile name]

Profile name is usually the ssid. Then reconnect to your network. See if that works for you. I had to do this when upgrading my router firmware and again when upgrading to win 8.1 since it installed new drivers for the 6235.

    I got this error

Profile "['ssid name']" is not found on any interface

Also, I tried intel update and it found no recent drivers and I'm sure I didnt update it. So did MS automatically updated while updating to 8.1? Or Intel doesnt have any drivers for 8.1?
    My driver is 15.10.3.2

You need to replace [profile name] with the name of your wireless network.

Use the command: netsh wlan show profiles
In order to see your currently stored connection profiles. You'll probably notice one for each network you've ever connected to.

I agree here. They need to price aggressively too. I was able to get my Alienware (open box) for less than my Sammy costs. Even if I paid full price on the Alienware, it would have been about $150 more. Haswell i7 +780M or 8970M and at a $2000USD is really the only way I would have bought another Sammy. But as I needed something now, I couldn't wait. Even then if Samsung doesn't release something soon, they might as well wait until the next refresh as Haswell has been around for a few months and so has all the gpu refreshes. Either they need to release a refresh real soon and have it be an Haswell i7 4700 or higher, and the 780M or 8970M, or don't bother.

And yes I agree there, they could have a 'late' refresh if they went the thin and light route and did it right. (Price point and such) They could give Razer and them a run for their money.

I guess we will just have to wait and see huh?

On another note, I ran a 2 hour test of Heaven DX11. "High" settings, AA at 2x, Moderate Tessellation on the Sammy, it looks like it was a driver issues as I had re-installed Windows 7 and all drivers and nothing happened. No artifacts, or out of the ordinary stuff. So I'm thinking the Sammy is ok, but I still don't wish to chance it.

Well checked the samsung site today the series 7gamer is no longer listed. Chatted with customer service person they did not have any information. So something new is coming or nothing at all. Will keep lurking around.

The Sammy has passed all tests. I ran memtest, heaven, prime 95 (64-bit), and everything seems to check out. There are no issues going on. Makes me strongly believe my last issues were FOR SURE software related. Now, after checking it all out, there is no need for me to have so many gaming laptops. I plan on keeping the Alienware as it is more up to date, and runs cooler, plus is sooooooo much easier to clean out. 2 screws and I can remove the ENTIRE bottom to clean out the fans and everything. Even swap out the fans should one fail. The prime parts are so easy to get to on the Alienware Also I've read that people who own previous Alienwares and even the model I have can upgrade the gpu's later on down the road. (A $400 gpu upgrade is better than a $2000 laptop every couple years.) Since the cpu should do me for quite awhile.

    Anyhow, to my conundrum:

I plan on selling one of my older laptops to make up the cost of the new laptop some.

How much should I try to fetch out of the Sammy? The 120GB SSD in sig is still included in the Sammy as well.

Also if I were to sell the Asus instead, (so I could keep the Sammy) how much would be a fair price for it? It hasn't been used as much as the Sammy and also still has about 9 months remaining on the warranty. Plus has been upgraded from the stock 5,400RPM HDD to a 7,200RPM HDD.

I currently have both up on Craigslist as a Best Offer type of thing. But when the ads, (if neither sell) expire I will re-do the ads with an actual asking price. Also what would the lowest I should take on either of them?

    Samsung Lowest?
    Asus Lowest?

Thanks for all the help. I do kind of hope the Asus sells instead of the Sammy, as the Sammy still has power to it. And I can keep on in this wonderful forum!

Make sure your router is running the latest version of firmware available, also do a factory reset after upgrading the firmware as sometimes latent configs can cause unforseen anomalies.

There are also newer still drivers available on Intel's site. I recommend the driver only package as I think Intel proset can sometimes cause problems.

I actually was having issues still with my 5ghz channel last night.. 2.4ghz works fine. Of course it's so polluted in my building I get 144mbit vs 300mbit.

Makes a huge difference when transferring files locally to my NAS.

BTW.. There's really nothing such as a router supporting win 8. Either it works over the Wi-Fi standards with your Wi-Fi adapter in your laptop or it doesn't. Win 8 drivers for your adapter in your laptop are another story.

    Hello Everyone,

I finally found a helpful board for this laptop. I have NP700G7C-T01US with the AMD Radeon HD7800M. I have just installed an SSD (Samsung 120gb 840 Series). Couple things:

    1. I went back a hundred pages or so, but I still have the dreaded ModeShift problem. I don't have the animation when you switch it. There are a ton of KB28 updates installed, so if anyone knows which one is screwing with me, please let me know. (Windows 7 Ultimate x64)
    2. I'm thinking of sticking 8 more gigs of RAM as I have 8 right now. Will I notice difference in games? Should I get the Samsung sticks or is it OK to mix higher performance memory with stock Samsung?
    3. What the hell is going on at Samsung with Windows 7 drivers? I mean if you look on their website, the "most up-to-date" drivers are from 2012... The chat support is useless. They don't know a damn thing about these laptops.

    Thanks in advance!

Samsung stopped maintaining the drivers on the website. All updates are supplied through SW Update (which used to be called Easy Software Manager).

You should have one of these installed (ESM will update itself to SW Update). If not, you can find SW Update on the Samsung download site.

You won't notice any gains in the memory increase. That is unless you are running something heavy like a VM while you're gaming..

    Thank you for your replies.

The SW update software is something that I don't really like to use. I've been installing AMD beta drivers and they've been working fine. Do you recommend that I only use SW to update drivers?

SW Update will tell you what Samsung has to offer. It's your choice whether to let it download and install any updates.

I have the properties of the SW Update notification icon (called "Samsung Software") set to "Hide icon and notifications" so it doesn't nag me and every few dates I manually run SW Update to see if there is anything new.

Yea my router is running the latest firmware

While upgrading 8.1 Windows automatically updated wifi drivers(I didnt know that) something to 15.10.xx now I rolled back to drivers I had before upgrading to 8.1 which is 15.5.6.48 and now things seem to be just fine. How can a monumental company like Intel screw a driver like this? It is amusing.

There is a massive thread about people having major issues with Intel's drivers over on their support forums. They even apologized for it finally when releasing a recent driver update. People are still having issues. It's been going on forever.

Will I finally made up my mind! I returned the Alienware and ordered an Sager from Powernotebooks.com

    Specs:
    17.3" 1920x1080 LED Matte Display
    Intel I7 4700MQ 2.4GHZ-3.4GHZ (Turbo)
    16GB DDR3 1600 Ram
120GB Crucial M500 mSATA III SSD (Room for a second mSATA SSD
750GB 7,200RPM HDD (room for a second HDD, I plan on sticking a 750GB 5,400RPM HDD into this for 1.5TB total, the slower drive will be for itunes and large file downloads, faster one for games and such.)
    AMD Radeon HD 8970M 4GB GDDR5 GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8970M - NotebookCheck.net Tech
    Intel Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n + Bluetooth 4.0 (Dual Band)
    6x Blu-Ray Reader/8x Super Multi Combo Drive
No OS: I plan on installing Windows 7 x64 to it. Was told that I can download the drivers, but they will also include a driver disc.

I just happened to decide to look at the online stuff and was WOW'd by the specs for dollar amount, so said screw it on the Alienware, it's nice, but not at my cost conscience mind. This laptop I ordered should be one heck of a gamer laptop!

The Sammy is still going for now, and will have to, hopefully last me until the new laptop comes. My biggest issue is the Sammy's Display is pretty wobbly. Has anyone had this issue and what did you do to fix it? Other than that the Sammy is sitting on a Notepal U3 to aid in cooling while I push it on occasion.

    Hahah Double-Yew Tee Eff! :)

I would have kept the 780M, but i'm sure the 8970M will work great. I've just seen so many AMD driver troubles the last year reading the forums. My display isn't wobbly at all. I mean I can move it a little, but it's pretty stable.

The Alienware had a GTX 770M, not 780M. Thought I said that in my previous posting. Could have been wrong though. As for driver issues, my friend has a 7870M and has been happy with it, I've had a 5870M before and never had issues. They have release some updated drivers since and I've also read, that sometimes it's not always best to update from the site, one review for a laptop (forget which one, but it had the 8970M in it, anyhow it stated, that with the latest drivers the 8970M "sucked" but with stock drivers it rocked. I guess I will have to wait and see. Even with possible driver differences, it can't be worse than the GTX 770M which was far below even the GTX 675M that is in the Sammy.

I should note another user, Dufus, on the forums has found a way to get the extra 4 bins out of the i7-3820 on this Samsung using UEFI. This even though we only have the HM76 and not the HM77. flex vids do not seem to work under Throttle Stop but even at stock vcores this seems rock solid. You can't expect much more of an increase under Prime95 as these are laptop cooling systems and our is set as PROCHOT as -5. Rarely do real world apps place that much stress on the CPU and those temps.

An update, with the i7-3820 all bins seem stable now. I have removed the turbo disable bit in setup and all is fine so far. My only issue so far is 3DMark 06 and vantage refuse the submissions coming back with an error.

Ok, mine has stopped shutting down and powering off, and also restarting, both Win7 and linux. It goes so far and right when it should actually power off (drive light has stopped and screen is black) nothing else happens and I have to hold down the power key for a few seconds to get it to power off. Any ideas what kind of hw fault this could be?

It does after a pause of about ten seconds during which nothing responds. There is the same pause after making any changes in the bios and hitting reset.

The same behavior here when trying to restart from BIOS, but I'm running windows 8.1. When did you start having this issue? I'm convinced that one of the latest SW Updates messed up something with the NP700G7C

It's going on several months, unsure as to when it first began as I thought it was just a Linux issue. I rarely run Win7 and never updated its drivers but I did fire it up and update to the latest bios at some point, I wonder if that was it and whether we could somehow go back a version ?

Can anyone tell me if these are the latest drivers that SW UPDATE is showing for your NP700G7C under Windows 8.1?

Will I woke up this morning thinking that I would be getting my new replacement laptop one day early as this morning it said "out for delivery" look into tracking and see this:

    This makes me mad! (edited).jpg

This really pisses me off, as to make matters even worse, the FedEx truck went by my house twice today! I don't care if it says it'll be shipped by Oct 31st, the whole point that they show that it was on the truck for delivery this morning and a truck goes by me twice today and now says this crap!

My Samsung has been decent for me when it wasn't in the shop, but now it is time to move on, and the Sammy is wearing out, I tend to be having more and more issues, despite doing a few more clean installs, it's to the point I'm using my Asus (see sig) for stuff since reliability is becoming an issue on the Sammy. The i5 in the Asus isn't for video editing that is for sure, I can tell a difference between the i5 and i7.

Anyhow /rant Samsung was good for specs, but bad on reliability for me, hopefully my new machine that looks like it'll come tomorrow will not have the same issues.

No I ordered a new laptop (it's in my sig), my old Sammy is no longer under warranty. So rather than spend money on repairs, I'm done with it. When it fully dies it's going in the trash (minus and parts I can save such as ram, HDD's Optical drive etc.) I may fart around with the Sammy once my new laptop comes, and see if I could get a little longer out of it. But I'll be glad my new machine comes. And hopefully the new laptop will last much better.

Oh, ok. THB I found on my P79xx 120 GB as too much of a limit. I thought it would be enough with a data drive but it was not. The 480GB I now have is just awesome. Although yeah it was a lot of money to me it was well worth it. Now I only have to think of the HDD as archive only.............

120GB is good enough for me. I actually still have 40GB free on the one in my Sammy. I just ordered my Sager with mSATA so I could have a dedicated 2x HDD's.

That is one thing I would have liked to see in the NP700G7C is mSATA for 2x additional HDD's. That was about the only thing other than a swappable GPU for these though. Since I also am not a gamer the swappable GPU was not a real big thing on the list.

For games, if I ever get time, I'll just get a PS4.................

Well I downgraded the rom to see if that made any difference but unfortunately not.

When I do a three finger salute from the bios page I get the Samsung logo in 4 seconds. What do you use the iSSD for? Assuming there are no usb devise plugged in then maybe that is hanging you up.

I use it as a backup partition under Linux. Been doing that pretty much since day one so I doubt it's the cause.

Ok so it is healthy etc? The reason I ask is the iSSD is supposedly trim capable but this also means it uses other features such as over provisioning garbage collection and the like. Since the drive itself is so slow it may take time when they are filled up and under high usage. have you tried an info program just to be sure about it?

Ssd and other drives are healthy. But I tried to turn on this morning and while I could see hd activity and the keyboard backlight was on, I had no display and couldn't even access the bios. It took about eight power on/offs before the screen came on so something is definitely seriously wrong and it's going to have to go in for repair or replacement. Preferably the latter though it's about 15 months old.

Sad to hear, did you overclock the video? Reason being as over time overclocking can kill a video card behind your back. If you have to OC it then go for a conservative overclock as bringing it to the bleeding edge can have severe consequences.................

Nvidia driver has stopped working and it was succesfully recovered.

I get this error from time to time. I am using latest nvidia drivers. My screen goes black before having this error. I hate when a SC2 game ends like this. Do you get this too? How can I fix this?

Haven't with this system experienced this error. Usually it is an IRQ conflict but there are other causes as well. If you are overclocking go back to stock asap and try it again. Also be sure to try the latest WHQL drivers as well.............
