I'll give this a shot.

We had a post but the included text was garbage and seems to have been deleted. It does seem though there is a new XTU version and it allows us to change the turbo voltages. I got a slight boost from the bench mark of 736-739 to 748 by going with changes to the turbo, slightly lowered.

I apologize, that was me deleting that post. Seeing the rubbish text, the fact that the poster had not participated in Samsung before, AND being unable to connect the screen dump to the current context (
) I thought it was a mistake or a test post ending up in the wrong section.
I can undelete it, although TANWare has now posted the screendump as well. -
Not too sure it was related to this other than it seemed it was a i7-3600 series, I could be wrong as I only got a short look before going off looking for XTU and why that screen shot might be there. As you noted the text left little, to no, clues.
Edit; When I found the new XTU and installed I had to reboot and then the post was gone, just glad to know it really was there and not me crossing over to the other side of senility.Dannemand likes this. -
Miracast are working!
But, with AMD video (latest wddm 1.3 drivers) and Windows 8.1.
1 - Just add:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000]
"DalWirelessDisplaySupport"=dword:00000001
2 - Reboot.
3 - Right panel - Devices - project - add a wireless display
TV must be at miracast waiting mode. -
My TV is already DLNA capable so I can stream anytime with Windows 7.

Ended up with an issue over the last few days. I had the vendor put in a BT20N for a Bluray burner. Lately I had tried to burn a DVD+R DL and no success. I got varying error's from Memorex and TDK media. Now mu UJ240 in my P79 has no issue at all with these disks.
So I purchased a UJ260AF and now can burn DVD+R DL with no issue. The old drive may have had an issue since day one but I never realized it. I guess such is life with these types of devices as even the new drive could have issues with a format I had not tested. At least now the new drive is capable of BD triple and quad layer but with media costs it will be a while before I try those out. -

Did you check for any ODD firmware updates?
They are often issued to improve media compatibility because the firmware includes the rules for how to best burn the different types and makes of media.
John -
Yeah, updated too from N4 to n5 but no help with the DL. I also had tried BD but not BD DL so in the end this could have been an issue as well. I have had the drive for well over two years but since the formats were untested I saw no real issue.
-
I just purchased a Netgear AC-3200 router. It works wonders with this system but for one issue. That is wireless card drivers.
I had not noticed an issue with the 6250 and the network until I put in a NAS, a 5TB USB3.0 drive on the router. In backing up my 200+ GB of data to the disk I noticed progressively worse DPC Latency. I found over 8000us when the wireless was flooding the 300mbit connection. It starts out not too bad but with the 15.6 drivers it gets worse over time.
I found but reverting to the 15.3.1.2 that while the latency still can get too 2000us with the wireless flooded there are no performance or sound issues. Also there is no degradation over time of the latency either. YMMV of course.
And use at your own risk, but I will host the file I used;

I just upgraded to an Intel 7260 for the wireless. definitely seems like a much faster card. Instead of 300mbit I am seeing 585mbit at 35' from the router and 1 wall.
-
Wow, that's impressive. Seems the 7260 and your new AC-3200 router are a good fit. Are those actual, measured speeds or displayed connection speeds? I assume the latter...
-
correct displayed connection, while under load. There is a USB 3.0 5TB drive on the router but I am having issues. I am trouble shooting it with netgear now. Even on the wired LAN and a gigabit connection I am only seeing 37 MBs transfer rate where as I have 140+ MBs as a direct connect with the laptop on USB 3.0 Right now real world I am seeing 20MBs write and 30MBs read from the networked drive over the AC connection.
Out of the connection being under load I typically see 650Mbps on the AC line.
The above real world numbers are from transfer of a 12GB video file, both too and from the networked 5TB drive. -
My question to you is does your laptop have working Bluetooth with your Intel AC7260? Can you check to see if you have Bluetooth device showing up in device manager? I bought my AC7260 adapter from amazon.com and I see now another seller has what they call a revised version of the AC7260 adapter which he claims is supposed to be more compatible with more hardware.
I wonder if the Intel AC7260 card I got is not compatible with my Samsung laptop or if the card I got is truly defective. Does your Bluetooth work and what AC7260 card did you buy? the older version or the 'Revised' version of the card? -
I, like yourself, have the old version. Also no BT here either, had not realized that as never use it anyway. The revised edition is available on amazon as well. TBH I never use it so probably will not bother.

Weird Intel did whatever as the 6250 BT worked fine. My guess here is they screwed up the design by not allowing backwards compatibility and just blamed the laptops themselves, but of course they are kind enough to put out a revised card that is now works properly.
-
-
I know but then I have to pull it apart to get the old one out etc. TBH I just am not that interested in BT, had it for over 2 years and did not use it and have no plans too.
Funny thing is we do not have a second PCIe, at least that I could see. That is what they seems to have blamed it on, as I said Intel blew it as if I remember correctly the 6250 had a driver that did place it on the USB bus. -
@TANWare: FWIW the Intel 6230 in my NP700Z3A is on the first PCIe port (see attached). I'd assume the same was the case with the 6235 used in the Samsung Ivy Bridge models.
BTW, I never acknowledged your response with throughput numbers. Looks like the WiFi is doing great there, but something is definitely wrong with the USB3 on the router.
Edit: Image display not behaving... -
Just thought I'd give a heads up. I have been amiss and not cleaned out the dust in a while. Started running up to some real heat on the CPU under load. Went and got some canned air and all is good again.
Supposedly there is a hack, covering pin 51 of the 7260, that allows BT. I know, unlike a lot of laptops, there is no hardwired on/off switch with these laptops. That could be why is does not work so later on I'll try that with mine. -
According to "can you run it" i cannot even play witcher 3. I will prove them wrong once i get my hands on on the game.
I will even overclock this baby as i did while playing witcher 2
Edit: Btw i have a ps4 too. I assume it would look better on that compared to our machines?Last edited: Apr 11, 2015 -
EDIT: I should probably say that doesn't mean you can't reduce resolution or details on the Gamer7 to actually play Witcher 3, but at the end of the day I would expect if you're trying to compare them as best as possible on the same title, the PS4 should win this battle with better resolution and better frame rates. Not to mention a gamepad is probably the best way to play it, I know I used a 360 controller for Witcher 2 (and any other games that lets me do that.. frankly..)
If you have both, I would side with the Ps4 unless you would rather play it on the Gamer 7 for some other reason like not hogging the TV from others for long periods of time or something like that.Last edited: Apr 11, 2015 -
I also played witcher 2 on pc and it felt great.
Anyway thanks for advice! I think i am leaning towards ps4 now -
-
just a heads up, taping pin 51 does give bt on the 7260. Apparently pin 20 is the wireless physical pin and pin 51 is the BT one. Without a physical switch on our systems it can't turn it on and stay on.
Edit;
The soft switch, Either fn-F12 or the power bar, do not control the BT. The BT software can turn it off however. The other thing is man that is a small piece of tape. These old hands and eyes were not happy at all.Last edited: Apr 12, 2015 -
Did not think it would work but gave it a try. That is I still have the original glasses as used in G7A. Apparently the BT used is truly proprietary too their TV's and the adapter in the G7A.
-
Something else I'd forgot. The latency issue with the 6250 is not as prevalent with the 7260. Even though the download is faster there is a lot less CPU usage and the latency is no higher than 500us usually.

Just a heads up, the biosupdate.exe is again throwing random bios updates not meant for our systems. We are still only at P08AAB.
-
Anyone tried playing Witcher 3 on their 675M to see how it fares?
As a side conversation that someone made me think about in one of the Razer forums, I know this thing has the vbios embedded in the system bios. If someone was willing to try to mod the system bios to support a different GPU I'd think about trying to upgrade the GPU on mine to see if it's possible. I know someone else had said they got a 680M or 7970M to fit in the unit successfully but it didn't work due to the BIOS on the card itself not being used. This SHOULD be possible, although I suspect the danger of bricking it trying to do it is probably rather high. -
I would not object to dropping $500 for a 780m mxm card from China but I am in no hurry. While it would give a boost to the system I still so far plan on keeping it until at least 2020 and TBH either the 675m or 780m will be well outdated by then. So for the money and trouble, at least for me, why bother.
-
Since the other cards you would be looking at would be intended to be used in stuff like alienwares that use the standard rectangle shape, it would not work in the sammy, unless you dremel out a place for parts of the gpu to stick out of, and not use the batteryAttached Files:

I thought the same thing a while back in this thread, but someone actually said it fit but didn't work due to vbios.
-
http://prntscr.com/7c20cs
The red line is roughly how the 765m fits in the laptop, and the blue line represents how a standard card would have to be placed (would require a slit to be made in the battery compartment/ battery wont be able to be used)... This is all off deductive reasoning, and a standard card may very well fit without any issue (other than the bios)... -
There is no Samsung card aside from the 675M, 7870M, and a 6970M.. I think this person tried a 680M or 7970M.. It's here in this thread or possibly another thread in the Samsung forum.

I was beginning to think I was alone with this system but then checking my server statistics it seems the service manual for this is my most requested file with January through June at 3969 downloads. My guess then there are still quite a few of these out and about.
-
I still have mine, though it's getting no use, and hasn't for about a year.
-
I also have not linked other than from this forum, so it would appear as if there are a lot of lurkers out there. My one hone is being it is the service manual people are just upgrading their machines and not repairing them.
-
Has anyone put windows 10 on this laptop wondering if it works. So far MS has not given me the go ahead to upgrade through GWX. Also interested to know if the performance selector or other functions of the laptop will still work well. Some don't matter like the wifi and sound as I use a standard user account and those always seemed to be hit or miss.
-
I have it on mine, so far no real issues. You need to get some of the Windows 8.1 drivers from SWUpdate, Settings, Trackpad. There are the privacy issues to watch and automated driver updates, let all the updates happen first before samsung updates.
-
I installed Windows 10 on mine as well, but the audio light don't work anymore. They work fine in Ubuntu, but not in Windows 10. Since they work fine in Ubuntu, I don't think it's because of missing software. Any ideas? I kinda got used to seeing them light up with the audio and miss them...
Also, the knob function with Modeshift is broken no matter which version of the software I used (W7,W8,W8.1). I contacted Samsung and they said they will be releasing updated drivers through an updated SW Update for Windows 10 and to check back later. -
The mode switch defiantly works with 8.1 on the latest drivers. I've not updated to 10 except on my Ativ Pro slate and 3 drivers failed so I'm holding off on the S7. I think download the 8.1 drivers, uninstall what you have and try the 8.1 stuff clean. Would be good to know how you eventually fix this.

TBH, I had not noticed if the audio ring around the volume was working on W10. My mode dial has worked throughout, with settings installed that is. The best settings for W10 I could find was 2.0.0.72
-
The mode switch is completely hardware based. The only thing the software does is the sounds and graphical stuff. It will always work, its just the audiovisual feedback that's missing. I always disabled it anyway, it was annoying IMO.
-
I just found that the audio rings light up when I use headphones, but not without. Strange.
-
I know with W7 there now was a settings 2.0.0.105 update just pushed here.
Edit; I just added for the primary drive a 1TB Mushkin Reactor and moved the 480 to the second slot. With the HDD in the second slot boot times seemed slightly, but noticeably, faster. With both SSD's I lost 3 seconds on the Samsung logo where is barely flashes on screen and the thing just pops W7, it is so fast now compared to before. I never timed it though as I really did not expect the faster boot. -
I have a question for anyone who is on Windows 10 and using Modeshift. When you installed Modeshift, did it create a Start Menu entry? It didn't when I installed it, and I had to locate it and create a shortcut to launch it every time I want to use it. It used to load automatically with Windows 8/8.1. Is there a way to get it to automatically launch on Startup?
